My friend broke his i777 when trying to update to the newest AOKP (he used rom manager) I wasn't home to help him fix it and he accidentally used some vibrant tool to fix it instead of normal Odin.
So it is hard bricked, he got a jig and that's not working either. Any ideas?

If it is a hard brick and the jig does not work then i think you need to buy a new phone
If it's truely hard bricked, then the only option is jtag recovery. Mobile Tech Videos is a reputable vendor who can do that.
If there is absolutely no sign of life, then that is your only option. If there is any sign of life at all, then you possibly might recover the phone without that.

MTV repaired my captivate when i hard bricked it. Odin hanged on me during a boot-loader revert and it was toast. The guy that does the repair must have some special tools cause you'd never even know my phone had been opened up just by looking at it.
He flashed a vibrant rom with bootloaders?, that's the only way to hard brick a galaxy s2 from what I've read. Did you try connecting to computer and pressing volume up and down to enter in download mode?
Provide more information.
I don't know what vibrant thing he used it could have had boot loaders he doesn't know also yes I tried all those combinations
Also I am looking into JTAG repair now thanks for the help
Edit: are we sure this will work 50$ is allot (although not too much if it works) also where can I find this MTV guy?

Go to mobiletechvideos.com. $50 is worth it and he can fix it. And for whatever reason, they can't get it working , they refund your money. But they're a trusted site. They unbricked my captivate

Before you send it in for jtag repair...
If you havn't tried it already, try putting the phone into download mode by first removing the battery, then holding down Vol+ and vol- (but not power) while you plug in the usb cable connected to your pc. The key here is to have the battery out. If this puts you into download mode, then go to the Download Repository and flash the I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries including bootloaders.
Re: jtag. From what I have read, you can trust mobile tech videos. $50.00 is a bit less than replacing the phone. The XDA developer Adam Outler also has done some jtag repair for folks on the captivate, and may also do the sgsII. I havn't heard lately, but some time ago he was a little cheaper than MTV.
Yes Mobile Tech videos will work perfectly for getting it fixed. I have also spoken to him on the phone many of times and he is a really cool person and very knowledgeable. He fixed my cappy back in the day and he got it to work with our sgs2s back when they first came out. Also you may see if he can apply the unbreakable mod for you while he is at it. Makes it darn near impossible to ever brick it again with bad flashes of even wrong/bad boot loaders. And $50 is way cheaper than a new phone or even insurance if you now decide to accident run it over with your car before calling att.

Now my phone wont turn on.
I don't have JIG so if you say your problem got resolved, then I will send it to MobileTechVideo.com

I am wondering if AT&T would go to this level of trouble to determine if a ROM was uploaded to a phone or not to determine whether or not the warranty was voided? My phone froze under normal usage under one of the more popular ROMs. I wrote about it elsewhere so I won't write about it here again.. but it said something about encryption when rebooting and never came back from black.
My only concern is when sending it in under warranty at&t will reject and stick me for replacement bill..

Why post in a dead thread?
Bleh
I googled for hours, and now i give up and ask here what to do.
My friends brought two Galaxy Ace s5830i from UAE. One works good, the other one not. Friend says he just turned the screen off and put the phone into pocket, and after that there were bootloop.
He never flashed any roms and stuff, doesn't have root, he is just a user who use stock things. He even hasn't downloaded any non-market apps, but he says some strange things about "I was playing angry birds, then I got some danger notification from samsung, I haven't read it, just pressed ok, and for some time everything was ok, but then blah blah blah", i don't know what that was.
He hasn't got any custom recovery either, and he has no warranty in our country.
Factory reset didn't help.
Odin can't see the phone (both 1.85 and 4.38).
Now they also say that their phones were taken somewhere for 20 minutes to "add russian language", the question is how? Flashing another stock rom? I am totally lost.
It seems so silly, but i don't know what to do.
Any ideas?

No recovery, no download mode. Just the same bootloop after reboot.
Kies can't connect too.
I usually tell people to try making a USB jig as their last resort, since they cant boot into download mode.
That's a cheap way to fix it.

I am a female (living with another two females) fixing the phone for male.
I am not that dumb, but I don't have skills or equip to make that jig thingy.
Though, I like the idea, so I would give it a try. Thank you.
300KOhm, 1/4W is okay or 301 needed?
You can find the details here:
http://galaxys2root.com/galaxy-s2-hacks/how-to-make-a-usb-jig-for-your-galaxy-s2/
Even though it says it's for the S2 it should work on SGA as well.
This guy on ebay listed a few phones by samsung:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Samsung-Galaxy-Ace-S5830-Fix-Download-USB-jig-MUST-HAVE-/130541952765
And if you would be able to get into download mode in the future, DONT use kies. I would rather stick with ODIN. I havent heard anyone getting their phone bricked using ODIN. A lot of people on XDA seem to have bricked their phone using kies, even my friend became a victim after the first day using his phone.
unfortunately, russian post is ****ty post. it would take too long, i'm afraid. will try to make or to find it here.

Well, thank you. Will try.
Long story short, some fool flashed a S3 ROM to a Note i717 on AT&T and now the phone is hard bricked. Here's the thing, I came upon it on the local CL here and he's asking $260, which I think he's out of his mind. He says the phone won't do a single thing at all. Is it worth getting if I can get it for a lower price or is it not worth it? It seems the only option is the JTAG service? Or could there be some other options.
jtag is the option you will need if it is hard bricked aqnd with the cost its not worth it as you can get a functional note for the same price, of that phone + jtag, and not have the risk of anything else being wrong with it
I have to say I agree. I just recently bought a white one in the box, unlocked, for $250. People in my area are trying to sell these notes for $350 or so. Ridiculous. I got him down to $200, says that's the lowest, but even still that's too much. What's up with people today.
for a bricked phone I still believe that 200 is too much. I bought my note with a case off the market place here about a month ago for $325 and felt it was a very fair deal
It is. He kinda caved in and asked how much I'd be willing to pay. Haven't responded back yet. I gladly paid $350 for one a few months back and I was the first to open it.
IMO it could be bricked, or it could be worse. Impossible to tell. So you could pay $200 for a phone that'll never work because it's been damaged in some way and he's claiming it's just a bad ROM flash.
That said, $50 will get the phone fixed, even JTag repair, so if you can get it for $150 or so, I think you're probably in good shape. Just taking the chance it's more than "just" a jtag repair.

JTAG is like $50 plus shipping. So if you can get him to drop to 150, then it may be worth it. But like previously mentioned, that's of course if there's nothing else wrong with it. Also, the physical condition better be pristine.

Yeah that guy is crazy. I eventually dropped it and actually picked up a note today brand new for $250. Called up ATT and they gave me an unlock code no problem. Never done that before! Especially not even having service with them, ever.
hard bricked?
I guess ive never "hard bricked one", im wonderimg what the differance is...i would say im getting more than average
At flashing and using odin, but i have bricked both my att samsung galaxy note i717 and also bricked my infuse..
I guess i haveent hard bricked one though, because i just seen a comment saying the only thing that would fix this kind of brick is j-tag
I have fixed my boot loop or bricked phone with kies for the note i717.....and with odin stock ROM, for my
Infuse......so whats the deffarence between the bricks ive fixed, aposed to "Hard bricked"?
Brick and hard brick are the same thing. Its the result of flashing a wrong rom. The device is a paperweight. JTAG devive is used to force the correct system into the mainboard.
Everything else is a bootloop or stuck on a screen. These are from bad flashing techniques or corrupted files. Rereading directions or redownloading files fixes these.

ok, but the only thing that I understand is that, the only way that he "hard bricked" it is he put the totally wrong model ROM on the device?...or can you still hard brick them when putting custom ROMS ect. using the right ROM model?.....or do they just "herd brick" when you totally screw up and try to flash the wrong model of ROM?

yes flashing the wrong rom that has different partition tables will cause a hard brick. Also using ODIN, Heimdall, or Kies and having it fail when it is flashing bootloaders can cause it. It does not happen often but it can happen

thanks in advance for any help//

The link is good but there are no ROM downloads for the newest release for the I717 at the moment. There is for the N7000 and I777 though. Sounds like you installed a ROM not made for the I717.

Yes, you can recover your phone. Just get your fifty dollars and phone to the JTAG guy and it will be back in a week.

Best of luck OP....
It's a bad day when a device locks up ...
I joined XDA after thinking I knew more than I really did.
I was helping a friend with root on an HTC evo.......and missed a critical step, causing a hard brick.
No JTAG there ....so I said I'm sorry, and we got in my truck and drove too the Verizon store.
$375.00 later, he was up and going again.....(and I was much lighter in the wallet )
Ever since, I've been here trying to help others to avoid the same mistake I made.
Since then, I read everything 5 times before using it, and I'll even contact the developer if I have questions.
I'm never afraid to ask questions, and I stop if that "feeling" hits me with doubt.
Please post here when the phone comes back if you can.
We hate those bricks, but we love a good success story too ....g
Hi, I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) which I recently hard bricked by flashing the wrong kernel. If I were to use a USB jig, would it force my device into download mode or not? Any help would be appreciated, because I need to fix this phone ASAP. :crying:
Bump.
I also would like to know
I have done the exact same thing. I have the i535 GS3, being the Verizon one. In a moment of severe inattention to detail, i tried to flash the international version of the omega custom rom, and hard bricked it. No response to any type of button combo, nada. I would prefer not to have to send it to be jtagged, its expensive. I'm capable of fixing it through ODIN, but i am unable to get it into download mode. would building/buying a jig solve my issue?

US Cellular Galaxy S3 Hard Bricked
my US Cellular Galaxy S3 has recently hard bricked after attempting to install a rom called energy 2.0 when i attempted to install it said something about a boot.img i dont know if it was bad thing i dont recall and a code 7 error installation aborted.
so after it said that i just decided id keep the KitKat 4.4 rom i had and left CWM through the restart phone option. so after i hit that it turned off and never turned back on, i cant access Download Mode, Recovery Mode or anything no vibration no nada. so i recently decided to purchase a USB JIG from ebay in hopes that it will set it to download mode? however knowing that i have a US Cellular model (SCH-R830U I Believe) all of the descriptions in ebay for the JIGs say that they work for Sprint models, Verizon models and so on but nothing about them working for US Cellular models, so my question is does anyone know if it will work?, i bought it hoping it will work but i just want to know so i dont get my hopes up haha? thanks.
Did it work
