I want to make backup of original rom.
Can i do it with clockworkmod rom menager. I want to instal rom menager with odin and do a backup.
Will that work. I want to save original rom because of Product warranty.
"To save your current Stock Firmware"
1.- Be sure you have installed a custom recovery on your SGS3 like ClockWorkmod.
2.- Get into recovery mode (volume down + home button + power button at the same time)
3.- select the "option back up and restore"
4.- then select, "Create a zip file" (this option will create a flashable zip of your current firmware that could be restored at anytime and is located in your internal SD card)
Hope i have helped

Never Stop Learning :good:
If u are using twrp then,
-First ensure that u have installed any custom rom or stock
-then go to backup option in twrp, it will ask u what u wanna backup, either Cache ,EFS, System, etc.
-then swipe to backup
-after backup finished, you can restore it back from restore option
And u can also save it on your laptop or pc and then again paste it on your sdcard or device storage/TWRP/64UR748848/and ur backup
If I helped u pls hit on thx button.

What does it mean to flash a rom? Like install it?
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Yes, it means to install it. The process is similar to formatting your computer's hard drive & installing a new operating system.
You've got to be rooted & have a recovery image installed (hopefully you installed one as part of your rooting) search the forums for more on that if you aren't sure.
Short-version how-to:
1. Back up your data, apps, & even your SD card just to be safe. It shouldn't be a problem if you do things right, but still...
2. copy the ROM of choice into the root area of your sd card (not in a sub-folder)
3. turn off phone. Boot phone into "recovery" by holding the Up-vol button when you turn on the phone - keep holding the up-volume until the menu pops up. (if no menu comes up, you didn't install a recovery image - search for "amon-ra" in the forums)
4. Go to "backup & restore" and make a "nand backup" which will backup your current ROM, settings, etc.
5. Wipe system. Wipe Dalvik. Don't skip this step.
6. choose "flash zip from SD card", scroll down to the ROM you downloaded & let 'er rip!
7. Reboot when it finishes flashing & find something to do for the 10 minutes it may take for your phone to reboot.
8. Set it up & enjoy!
Sweet man. Yeha I guess when I rooted it it put the recovery image on there. I've been using rom manager to back an change roms.

I am new to rooting and I wanted to flash another ROM other than the stock one after rooting. I followed the steps given to root my TB and that was cake. Thanks for the simplicity. I am now looking to add the Virus ROM but not 100% confident in how to do this. There are several steps given for other devices but I have yet to see one for the TB. If someone could point me in the right direction or link me to the actual steps that would be appreciated.
Install Clockwork Recovery
Boot into CWR
Select "wipe data/factory reset"
Select "yes -- delete all data"
Go back using the softkey
Select "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard"
Find and select your desired ROM
Reboot
Download the rom you want which will be store on your phones SD Card in Downloads then make a Backup of the rom you have now . Go into Rom Manager and select backup current Rom , you'll get a pop up were you can name the rom whatever you want , let it do it's thing , it will backup then restart the phone. When the phone restarts go into rom manager again and select Install Rom From SD Card , it will take you to your SD Card where you'll go into Download where the rom is stored , select the rom you downloaded you'll get a pop up which will ask if you want to wipe , check wipe and then ok . Let it do it's thing again when it down it will restart and ask you to set up you accounts just follow the steps . When everything is set up go in to the market and select My Apps you should see all your application downloading give them some time to download. Then it's all up to you to set up your home screens .
Don't forget to wipe the cache partition , and also select advanced and wipe dalvik cache. I would do all the steps listed above and these 2x, just to be on the safe side.
Where can I find those options?

I'm new to Android but have some experience with rooting on other types of devices. I'm looking at flashing this ROM with ROM Manager and the process above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1041514
I think I understand what's happening on the phone when I do this but wanted to make sure. Other than the usual disclaimers about risk of bricking, is there anything else I need to know?
just in case you didn't know how you hold volume down and the power button to get to hboot and then pick recovery from there. otherwise if you just want easy download rom manager from the market

Where can I find these options, and in what part of the flashing process should I do them?
Just a quick question, its really not necessary to wipe data and cache very time is it?
I do apologise if there are similar threads just like this one but recently I have been receiving messages from people asking me how I got the WB-XPERIA Gingerbread 4.0.4 ROM installed with X.Dark v1.4 Theme. I know that for n00bs this could be hard and a little frustrating so I will make it as easy as I can.
Please remember to press the THANKS button if you used this thread.

Okay let’s get your boring Xperia pimped and pumped!!
1. Before you do anything I strongly recommend you install MyBackup or purchase MyBackup Pro from the Market to backup all of your calls logs, messages, settings, etc.. However, for you apps and their data I strongly recommend Titanium Backup which can also be installed from the Market.
Issue that I faced moving from 2.1 to 2.3.3 was that Titanium Backup couldn't restore my messages properly so I used MyBackup to restore the messages.
2. Secondly, download the latest Sony Ericsson PC Companion 2.0 and install it. Once installed, open it and click on Support Zone and click the Start button Under Phone Software Update and follow the procedures.
3. Once it’s updated, just double check if you are on 2.3.3 by clicking Menu > Settings > About Phone > Android Version.
4. Now go to the Rooting Procedure page and follow the instructions.
5. Once all done, you should have your phone rooted (Superuser should be installed) and xRecovery installed.
6. Now, click here and download Xperia TW Gingerbread Edition V4 and place the ZIP file on your SD card. Then download Update 4.0.4 for V4 and place the ZIP file on your SD card as well.
7. Reboot your phone. Once you see the Sony Ericsson logo continuously press the BACK button till the xRecovery menu comes out.
8. Use the volume buttons and choose Backup and Restore and then press Backup (this will backup the current stock ROM just in case something goes wrong).
9. Once backed up, press back and choose Factory Reset (full wipe) and press YES. Once that’s done, choose Wipe Cache Partition and press YES. Once that’s done, go to Advanced Options and choose Wipe Dalvik Cache and press YES.
10. Once step 9 is completed, press the back and press the Install Custom ZIP and choose the second option (SDCARD) and press UP it should show you the ZIP files from step 4. Choose the Xperia TW Gingerbread Edition V4 and press YES to install it. Be patient as this might take a while. Once done, go back and do the same thing for the Update 4.0.4 for V4 and press YES.
11. Once step 10 is completed, press back to go back to the xRecovery menu and press reboot. Now you should have the WB-XPERIA Gingerbread 4.0.4 ROM installed.
13. Now for the theme.. Click here to go directly to the theme page and press on the Download Link to download it. Once downloaded, place it on your SD card, reboot and install it just as you installed the ROM zip files and reboot.
DONE!!

x10i 2.3.3 rooted.
Samsung galaxy note i717. I rooted my phone yesterday as I also updated from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2. I have learned a few things about roms, kernels, backing up, restoring, etc.
I have SUPER SU, titanium backup, and ROM manager.
I understand that all rooted phones must have a SU to grant apps access to the software.
As for titanium backup, I have deleted bloatware and backed up and verified all of my information. I also bought the pro version of titanium backup. But for the Rom manager, I'm not too sure how to use that yet. I guess Titanium is for backing up and restoring, and ROM manager is for downloading the new rom?
To get a new rom (someone please recommend one to me? Specifically for good battery life and a customizable UI)
So you have to download it from the computer, then move to your SD card. Afterwards, the computer part is done right? How do you get the phone in the mode to put in the new rom? And do you have to wipe the stock rom first?
Someone please please recommend me a rom and tell me step by step how to do it without bricking my phone... And to restore everything back.
Thank you thank you
ROM Manager installs the CWM recovery on your device, it's a little tool that we use for installing zips with ROMs, kernels and stuff like that.
You have to get the ROM on the internal or external SD, and then go to the recovery mode. You can do this by pressing a button combo when the device is booting or you can also get to it with ROM Manager. Select "apply update from sdcard", and after this select "install zip from sdcard" (or "install zip from external sdcard" if you have your flashable zip in the external sd). Browse for your zip and select it to apply it.
To restore everything back, you have to make a nandroid backup before installing a new ROM. After you entered the recovery, select "backup and restore" and then select "backup". Just wait a little and it's finished.
A custom ROM I highly recommend is CyanogenMod, and you can also try AOKP.
Big post, but hope I helped

hi i have used mindcr 2.9 rom i like it but wanted ro try different rom. well i have flashed mindcr many times cause i deleted something i need. so i toght i should try ankther rom in this case i chose simplicity v4 . but i cold not go into download mode only recovery so i wanted to flash back stock rom but i coldnt tried everything epcept the usb jig .. anyways i sent it to repair.. ill be getting it tomorrow. it was working only thing download mode did not work i tried all methods no luck . so here is my question... can you install another rom over mindcr with cwm? i search and many people said yes. so i did an phone got hard brick. if it dont matter then the procedure that i followes was wronf. are all roms installed trhu cwm in sd ca rd always the same dprocedure??? if so should i used the mindcr that i been using. any link for simplicity v4 ultimate i dont want v5 procedure from mind ans simplicity were almost the same are roms always installed the same procedure? i think if u can install a rom over anoher rom installed procedure from place i followed bricked my phone... thanks
It is best to install a Rom over stock. Even flashing over a Rom works sometimes. And yes every Rom is installed through cwm or e3 recovery. Simplicity v4 should be flashed the same way as mindcr Rom.

i aint staying stock hahah just want tobmake sure i dobit the rifht way... thanks guys
When you go into CWM recovery, there should be a section called Backup/Restore. Back up here, it Will take about 150mb-350mb of your sd card depending on what you have. So if flashing your Rom goes wrong you can go back to CWM and restore.
Then follow the procedure which is
- Root
- CWM
- Mount everything (it should look like unmount/system, unmount/data etc)
- wipe data and cache
- Advanced » wipe dalvik cache
- Mount everything again
- Install .zip from sd. Find the Rom and flash it.
This procedure will definitely work. If it doesn't just restore and try again.
Also, don't say thanks, but press it if I helped you
