[SOLVED]Bricked Xperia P - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I've recently received an Xperia P from a friend that is supposedly hard bricked. Plugging it into a charger cause a red light to appear(and it'd disappear after a while, anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour). The reset combination(vol+ power) worked about 5 times over the last 3 days of continuously plugged into some sort of charger/computer. The first few times I wasn't able to put it into either fastboot or flash mode. After nearly 30 hours, I was able to put it into fastboot after 3 vibrations, however the blue light quickly switched back to red before I could unplug the phone from the charger, and it resumed the previous perma red light state. Sometime, the light would blink 3 or 4 times if I disconnect the phone and try a buttons sequence, but nothing come from it. I've tried just about everything from the 2012 Softbrick recovery thread, including the rubber band trick and the battery cable pull trick. HALP, and sorry for the long post.

That looks to be a hardware battery problem to me, do you have another Xperia P you could try exchanging the battery unit with to confirm the diagnosis?

Unfortunately no, and with the P being a relatively new device where I live, spare parts aren't as easily available, compared to Samsung and LG phones. Although one thing, it bricked after she bootloader unlocked and flashed a JB ftf. Is it possible she might have flashed a test build instead of the official one that came out a month ago(which would explain the lack of offline charging)? I checked the guide she used, and it was a badly translated guide with the files hosted in a local server with generic name like P_JB.ftf so and so.

Ok try this.. Take out the battery.. Don't insert for say half an hour.. Let all the capacitors discharge all the charge left in them.. Then insert in back n try to connect it via fastboot n flash an ics kernel!!

A red blinking light is indicative of low battery (meaning the phone doesn't have enough remaining charge to start). Usually connecting it to the charger for an hour or so (regardless if the phone is on or not) is enough to charge it so that it can start. However, if you have already tried this and haven't been able to start the phone, it might be a battery problem, like @WizaJ indicated.
As for the bricking, its possible that your friend failed to flash a compatible JB kernel when flashing the JB rom, which may have lead to the phone getting (soft)bricked. If you somehow get your phone to enter flashmode, you can simply reflash the full ICS rom (including kernel) to get the phone running. Offline charging is a hardware capability, and the phone will still charge offline even if it doesn't show any logo, charging animation, or charging led.

The red blinking light only appeared a couple of times before, and when it did, I could (briefly) use the reset command(vol+ power), and entered flashmode/fastboot. However, currently, I'm unable to do any of that, and the phone returned to the state I received it in. The light would remain a static red, and the led will turn off after a certain amount of time. Pressing the power button, or replugging the phone will cause the red light to return. Although once or twice before, the phone would be detected by the PC as an unknown device(device cannot start) in the USB section, even though the light is still red.
@rakz992 tried that before, no change

You need the fastbook driver. Install flashtool. And install fastboot drivers that comes with it. With the sola i had to do it twice. So if that fails, try again.
The blue light means the phone enter fastboot mode, but, because of the PC not having the driver, fails.

Fastboot + Flashtool driver - check. I already rooted and bl unlocked an Xperia S a few weeks before, driver is the same. My problem is, I can't get it into blue light if its connected to the pc, only the wall. But I can't connect it to the PC fast enough that the light don't switch back to its previous state

Both of these to me, correlate with my idea that it's a battery failure. If the battery is malfunctioning, that explains why the phone is changing states unpredictability with no stability - simply because there is not enough charge to sustain computer connection in the connected mode, hence unknown device etc.
When the device is connected to the wall, it's receiving the same 5v from as it would from USB port but the (milli) amps are different, given that there's no data interface in wall charging mode, that may explain why the LED stays on in the wall mode and not when connected to the computer.

After leaving it to drain over night, I noticed something. If the battery is at, or near 0, then the vol+ power command work to turn off the red light, and thus the phone. However, after leaving it plugged into the wall for 10 minutes, it returned to the red light state, no command work. I think the phone it booting somehow, but the kernel is not compatible and put it into a freeze state. On a Sky Vega device, if you flash a JB recovery onto an ICS device, the recovery would not boot and it'd result in a black screen. Could this be something similar?

Yes, I think this may also be possible but I have am doubtful because AFAIK fastboot is a protocol controlled by the bootloader, not the kernel so in theory, even if there's an incompatibility you should still be able to access fastboot.
Long shot but we haven't ruled out the computer entirely as a problem, no? Do you get the same results on another machine?
Could you also link us to the guide your friend used to flash the phone?

Suddenly, a while ago, the light on the phone just turned green(flashmode green), when I pulled the plug, it turned back to red, but I'm now able to turn off the phone by holding power. Still no flashboot/flashmode though
And I've tried on 3 different machine, running Windows 7 32bit, 64bit and Windows 8 64bit
Just flashed a stock ftf. Still no change...... /sob

[Q] ST15i probably bricked (Stock ROM cannot be flashed anymore)

Dear All,
I beg your help for solving the following problem (already browsed for similar topics, no luck).
Here a brief history of the mess I have been doing:
I had installed Cyanogenmod (Worked)
I had flashed back a Stock ROM (ST15i_4.0.A.2.368__GENERIC_(1244-2098).ftf) (Worked)
Even though I knew that was not a good idea, I updated the software (as requested by android) (Bricked)
I have tried to re-flash using the same Stock ROM has worked before, with the result you can read below.

The Symptoms are the following:
Device not booting, when pressing the power button the phone vibrates for one second, nothing happens. The green light blinks.
When connecting the phone to the PC, it immediately starts the flashmode
When trying to connect it in fastboot mode (blue light) nothing happens. After releasing the up volume button, the phone connects in flashmode
When trying to use PC Companion, I get a window asking for unplugging the phone, remove the battery, insert the battery again and reboot. It does not reboot
When being connected with the PC, the phone exits and reenters the the flashmode each 1 minute.
I know I am just the N-th noob asking for help, but any hint is highly appreciated!

Luca

Hey Someguyfromhell,
you made my day, my mobile phone is alive again
There is still one question, is there a solution to allow the updates to be installed again? Maybe by relock the bootloader or using the PC Companion?
Thanks a lot again!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16659481&postcount=33 and look in the post for D) Relocking.
Seems, that if you used test point method, you can also relock via S1tool.
After that you can reflash stock firmware.
Almost same symptoms
Hi, I also think I've bricked my st15i.
What I've done:
-Unlocked bootloader
-Rooted
-Flashed custom rom
-Everything was working
Then with no reason, the phone started rebooting. It managed to boot and after 10sec - 1min it restarted again.
To solve this I:
- flashed stock rom and it stopped rebooting but as soon as I plugged it off the usb it rebooted and could not boot (it was looping sony logo and back).
- flashed other stock firmware, the same results
- now when connecting it to pc it goes directly to flashmode
- I can enter fastboot mode as well
- When pressing power button green led blinks
- tried flashing stock firmware again and then both the xperia_relock_bootloader.ftf and Xperia 2011 Range_FreeXperia_ALL.ftf with no results
- when connected to pc it goes only to flashmode (Can't make it to start)
- when pluged in the socket it starts looping up to sony logo
- when not pluged at all when I press power button, green led blinks
I hope you can make any sense out of this because I can't, and I've been trying solutions the past 36hours!!
Please...help!!

[Q] Flashing gone wrong?

Hi all!
I think this is the right place to post this (please correct me if i'm wrong)..
Today I received my xperia s and was super happy!! Made a call to my service provider to activate my sim. All good. I then connected the phone to my computer and installed PC Companion as there was a notification to update. PC Companion confirmed this and I went ahead with the download. After download was complete the program began installing the software and about 1/4 of the way in it stopped for about 15min and then gave me an error saying it was not able to finish installation I should try again or contact support. I then installed SEUS and the same thing happened. I then did some more research and downloaded both the GB and ICS generic .ftf files, installed flash tool 0.8.6 and tried to flash. For the ICS update I got the same spot as SEUS and PC Companion did before it froze.

I should say the first time this happened my phone was essentially bricked in that only the boot screen showed.
After trying to flash back to GB the process completed however the phone would turn on to the boot screen for about 10 seconds then restart, repeat.
I don't know if I was meant to change a setting in the phone to allow this process to happen or not but I don't have access to the phone so can't do much about that now....does anyone have any idea as to how to proceed?
My SI Number is 1257-6322 if that helps. I used firmwares:
LT26_6.1.A.0.452_Generic_CH_1257-3740_ (1) for ICS &
LT26i_6.0.A.3.75_Generic NL for GB.

Unplug your phone and try to press the power button and the volup button at the same time for a long period (until you get 3 short vibrations)
it will completely shutdown your phone
first you can try to plug it to a power supply and check if it charges or not. For flashing I advise you the phone to be charged at least 80%
once done, unplug the phone and press voldown button while plugging to computer. It should go to flashmode and you would be able to retry flashing.
Try on another computer if possible. Maybe your usb port is not enough self powered ... try with another cable if you can. I had once an issue with my cable where my phone didn't stop to show as plugged / unplugged / plugged / unplugged
Let us know

Thanks for your suggestions and response, Androxyde.
I hard reset my phone every time (one vibration followed by three vibrations). If I don't (since the error first arose) then the phone will be constantly restarting on the "Sony" loadscreen...though sometimes it has got to the Xperia loadscreen after which it will freeze and restarts again.
I made sure I had over 90% battery power when I first flashed. USB ports have plenty of power. Now as the phone doesn't turn on I have been charging via power adapter to get a graphical indication of power level (not over 9000!!).
I'm beginning to think I have bricked the phone and am considering calling up my provider and telling them so. It looks like an isolated case, though I did read a post by someone who had the same issue but there was no solution as such. There is also a Sony service centre in my city (melbourne). I will try a couple more firmwares both GB and ICS and see how it goes...any other suggestions are welcome!!
Phone bricked after unlock and install of doomkernel
I have a similar (the same?) issue:
Unlocked the Xperia S
Used fastboot to flash doomkernel
Turned the phone on
Nothing happened. I've tried flashing several different stock ftfs using flashtool 0.8.6 and every single time I get the message:
ERROR - ERR_SEVERITY="MAJOR";ERR_CODE="0019";ERR_DYNAMIC="SIN header verification failed";
I've tried flashing only kernel.sin using fastboot and everything looks OK:
sending 'boot' (5576 KB)...
(bootloader) USB download speed was 18601kB/s
OKAY [ 0.321s]
writing 'boot'...
(bootloader) Flash of partition 'boot' requested
(bootloader) S1 partID 0x00000003, block 0x0000d000-0x00014fff
(bootloader) Erase operation complete, 0 bad blocks encountered
(bootloader) Flashing...
(bootloader) Flash operation complete
OKAY [ 0.347s]
finished. total time: 0.669s
But again, the screen remains black and nothing happens. The phone had a full battery when I started and if I "turn it on" and plug the charger the red light turns on.
Any ideas as to how to bring it back to life?

If you still able to use fastboot than try to flash a prerooted image file( gb or ics I don't know what firmware you was on) and the kernel.elf

I tried flashing Swedish rooted img (6.0.A.3.75) -- I originally had the German version. It flashed just fine using flashtool but it still won't turn on
I then flashed S-Advanced-Stock-v01_kernel.elf to no avail. I have a sinking feeling.
In the end I returned the phone under my carrier's DOA/ELF policy. I found out 24hrs after I sent the phone back (interstate) that it was irreparable!..and received my new one yesterday. Successfully flashed to .42 today and am super happy with the device!!
As to the original issue I suspect the cause could be;
- Hardware failure. If so almost 100% sure it's not my computer. Phone memory corrupt or battery issue would be my first guess.
- Downloaded software (update) corrupted, initial installation of GB corrupted.
So at least you know you didn't brick it... Btw, it happened to me too when I wanted to upgrade to ICS. It did a really short bootloop and got stuck. Eventually I got it to work and flash. I somehow made it go to green led bootloop. It would turn on and go to flash mode and turn off again. I had to find the right miment to throw the ftf file on it.

[Help] Xperia Mini Pro SK17i not powering on after update

hi friends
i was trying to update xperia mini pro sk17i (1250-3615) to ICS official
it went well phone booted to ICS but i wanted to root it. (rooting failed even when in GB with all the possible methods Doomlord/Xperia-root/flashtool )
then triend to collect all the files from firmware folder of sony pc companion and made a ftf file using flashtool decrypt /bundle .
flashed it worked fine for first two times... then unlocked the boot loader using sony unlock code from the site.
now .. i was trying different kernel / pre rooted and was boot looping .. so flashed back to .431 ftf and laptop just went off towards the end.
phone not powering on. not recognised as a usb device. But once in a while it comes to flash mode ( green light vol-down usb state ) and i finally was able to use flashtool and this much happened

but still phone not powering on.. its the red light blinks 3 to 4 times and nothing happens.please shed some light
my own phone is FIH FBO (huawei x6 variant ) and i am active in that section... i have tried all the possible recovery methods i can find..
Did you try repairing with PC Companion after the last flashing session?
Don't know how much it would help, though.
1º Usually when you have the 3 red blink means no battery. You have to put your phone charging and nothing will appear on screen. Only after 10 or 20 minutes when battery reach good level.
2º If point 1 is not enough probably you installed kernel for custom rom that might be not compatible with the version you flashed. Try to go to Fastboot mode (blue light vol-up usb state) and install original kernel.
Good Luck
(i'm quite sure is the battery,if you can just grab a voltimeter and check your battery, if value is lower than 3,8v for sure you need to charge|)
thanks buddy for the quick response ..connected it to the charger keeping it for some time(but it was always connected to laptop usb whole time ). lets hope its the battery now. But i have done some cross flashing too earlier.
can you please point me to the original kernel. (but blue light fastboot mode too not coming up now. )
for this particular phone all the threads are so messed up reading finding each compatible ones is taking so much time.. most of the links are dead /suspended too.
sometimes when i flash this (SK17i_4.0.2.A.0.62_Baseband+Kernel.ftf) i get to the sony splash screen and xperia it will show and keep boot looping ..this guy here also tried the same had similar outcome. This thread

yes one time i got a repair option and i tried it. says the phone has a modified rom / so repair is not possible. (mostly because of the kernel +baseband flash ) and its very rarely comes to flash mode.
brov just reflash but dont use Flashtool v0.8.6, use v0.8.5 but make yhu charge tha phone first...
this is the latest happening ... and i strongly believe its the battery

(wrong !!) then the second thought is .. does the recent booting into android home mean ( 12/019/2012 15:19:04 - INFO - Flashing loader) a temporary boot from the new kernel ? still hope is there rite ??

thanks buddy for the quick response ..connected it to the charger keeping it for some time(but it was always connected to laptop usb whole time ). lets hope its the battery now.

If you would read correctly, then you would see that .ftf file included only Baseband and Kernel, nothing more, nothing less.

Remove USB cable, choose the .ftf file with Flashtool, connect the phone in flashmode when Flashtool asks it.

XPERIA X10i DEAD!?! NEED HELP WONT TURN ON!!

Hi there, I'm new to this forum and just need some help with my Xperia x10i.
Basicly when i put it on charge i get a green led light for like 30 seconds and then the led goes off. I also sometimes when im turning the phone on get 3 red lights which blink, other times when i try to turn the phone on it just vibrates and a green light flashes for like a millisecond. I really don't know whats wrong with the phone and if it can be repaired. I have tried to update it using PC companion but it keeps coming up with an error half way through the update, i have also tried to update it using update service but just like PC companion when its installing the software it installs a bit then comes up saying it cant install the software on my phone. I have also tried to flash the phone using flash tool and using Sony Ericsson X10i_2.1.A.435_GLOBAL-GGL GENERIC 1232-9897.ftf but it keeps saying error and that i need to turn on USB debugging which i cant do as the phone wont come on. Other times flash tool will just freeze when its installing system.sis. Please help me i really want to bring this phone back to life. Any help would be appreciated and if you need more info plz let me know. Thanks
Hello)
1) Change battery
2) Coonect phone to charge without battery. ~15-20 mins
3) Flash ROM via FlashTool =)
Try doing it like this;
1.Without connecting charger, Power on the Phone until it vibrates
2.Connect charger immediately to prevent it from shutting down because of low power
3.Wait until your phone reboots...hope it helps...

Have you installed the drivers that came with flashtool?
There one for experia p, and 2 more at the bottom (flash and fastboot mode)
What windows version do you have?
Adter installing the drivers, open flashtool, connect in flash mode for a minute and post flashtool log.

No need to uninstall flashtoolm just install drivers. Windows 8 has problems with those drivers, Try installing following the steps in this post
Also you must use USB 2.0 ports, USB 3.0 ports won't work
If this does not work, read this post
