I'm running superjelly m4. The only apps I use a lot are chrome and Facebook with notifications off). (Though I had Facebook completely uninstalled for a month, and this still happened during that time).
Any ideas on which part of Google services might be keeping this thing awake?

Using widgets or location based services? Like weather. Either way get titanium backup pro and make Google play store and services a user app. The get the app Greenify and add them to its list. Hope it helps

I've also noticed that Google hangouts is pretty rough on the old battery life. I always made sure I was signed out of Google talk because I rarely used it. Hangouts seems to drain battery even if you aren't signed in, so I ended up removing it, and battery life has been much better since.

Although I am not having Battery Drain from Google Services. ( I usually can go 14-16 hours) I have noticed that Google Services is up to about 50% of battery usage. I am using Google Now, but on a Friends phone with all the same settings selected his is only about 20%.
Turn off GPS unless your using it. Google seems like its constantly checking in for location

I once read that its Google Backup Transport thats draining the battery? Try deleting that and rebooting?

Haven't used maps all day, gps is off, yet maps is in my battery usage and has caused over 30 mins wake time. Why is it even opened? I've killed it a few times now just to see awake time increase. Anyone else having issues. I'm completely stock and ota updated.

I have been having the same exact problebm, stock with ota. I used advanced task killer seems to lower the awake time by alot. But still get the maps awake time way up there, even when not in use

do you use Latitude, or have you signed into latitude through google maps? I know using latitude it polls your location every hour or few hours (not sure how often) and that runs through the google maps process

I already did my research on this and found that people on older devices had this issue. I had this issue on my DNA today and it was eating up close to 30 percent of my battery. So much so that I was at 70 percent after 3-4 hours off the charger. I disabled everything I could related to location and it was still running. Eventually I cleared cache and reset the settings, still nothing. Uninstalled the most recent update and went back to "factory" and all is good.
Just posting this up for anyone else who has been experiencing the same thing.

Yeah, google maps does stay on pretty much all the time. However, according to Gsam, it only eats up about 2% of battery for me. Not sure why yours is chowing down that much battery. Do you use lattitude, I know that is a real battery drainer.

No sir, havent used latitude. It started when I installed widgetsoids for some reason. Uninstalled, stopped maps and did a reboot and maps was still going. Odd for sure. But it hasnt started back up since I uninstalled the update. I may reinstall them just to see if it was the cause.

That would be interesting to know. You can also use better battery stats (there's a free version posted somewhere on XDA) to help find the offending app causing the drain.
Did you per chance set up traffic on Google now? I had and found it pretty much left maps running all the time. I disabled that and haven't had an issue since

Is there a way to convert the Maps app to downloadable and then uninstall it and then install it directly from the market to see if that fixes any issues? I heard that might be beneficial, too. I'm not sure though. >_<

I was having this issue a while back and was finally able to resolve it after turning off most of the location services in the Maps settings. I read somewhere that there is a bug on some HTC devices where Latitute is constantly pinging for location services (but in a way that causes tons of battery drain). My battery wasn't making it until dinner time and now it goes about 24 hours.

I actually did have traffic enabled, I forgot to turn it off when I enabled google now. But this started happening after I had turned off traffic. So far so good, reinstalled the update and it hasn't been running more than 2% today. So what location services do you guys use? Verizon, Google or standalone, I have googles selected and it's only thing related to location that's enabled though so I can get weather.
Try getting a gps lock in maps before you close it. Seems to help me.
I have found that I have less issues with google maps, latitude, and google now, if my GPS has been allowed to turn on and get a GOOD lock. I like to run GPS status to initialize the GPS, and have it create a good GPS database. Seems like once the GPS has had a good lock (after flashing a new rom) then maps etc runs smoother, less wake-locks, and less battery usage.
Yeah If I go into maps, I let it get a lock before exiting, been having good luck so far.

Open maps, let it grab your location and show it on the map then leave it. That way its not searching for your location like it would be if you opened it and closed it before the map showed up.

I only leave Google location services on, never use Verizons, and only use stand alone for navigation, etc.
Ok, ever since the new maps update, it constantly turns itself on. It never use to be a problem before. I've been monitoring with GSam. I don't have anything turned on. I don't use google now, latitude or any other thing. When in settings the only thing that is checked is automatic sign in...you cant remove that check. It saves it but when you open back up is checked again. The following services running:

Having the same issue since I did a wipe. Last time around in was able to resolve it by disabling location settings in maps. Now that doesn't seem to be working. I'll probably enable everything and run it for awhile and then disable again. I use navigation all the time so I can't disable maps.

I already posted about this in the NRG ROM because that's the ROM I'm using, but I am so impressed with the battery improvement after using this app for a week that I had to cross post to a larger audience. I know the battery is the one major drawback on the Amaze. This is just not a problem for me anymore since I started using Greenify.

I've been getting over 24 hours regularly with 3-4 hours screen time. I'm using NRG with stock kernel, but I see no reason why this app wouldn't offer improvement for any configuration. It enables effective hibernation of apps without freezing them. They'll run but only in the foreground. It cuts out all background processes of the apps you select.
You have total control over which apps you want running in the background and allows you to keep the aggressive battery hogs at bay. You select which apps should hibernate. For instance, now Google maps will really stay asleep when it's not being used, no constant wake locks, but unlike with freezing it, you can conveniently launch it when needed. However any apps with background processes that are actually useful are free to do their thing, eg, widgets you want to auto update. It's taming the beast that is android.
And not only is my battery improved, but my phone is more responsive too. Highly recommended. Here's the xda thread:

Q: Some of my greenified apps (e.g. Google Maps) seems not hibernating.
A: In short, don't worry about frequently awake apps. It will still hibernate in minutes after screen goes off, thus hardly add observable battery consumption. Use battery statistics in settings or "BetterBatteryStats" to confirm that.
While most greenified apps will stay in hibernation quietly, some apps do break hibernation, due to being waken up by others. Some known cases include enabled account sync, backup agent, and explicit launch by other app.
Since version 1.45, Greenify will now automatically turn off directly involved account sync of greenified apps when going to hibernate, to avoid the periodic account sync wake them up. For backup agents, Greenify will NOT disable them, to ensure your backup of app data is always up-to-date. As backup usually does not perform often, they are thus unlikely to be waken up often.
Google Maps is a typical example of explicit launch by other app. Some Google apps, including Google Now (a.k.a Google Search), will start the NetworkLocationProvider of Google Maps for its proprietary implementation instead of the public Android one if Google Maps is installed.
Since Greenify is designed to not break any explicit usage of greenified apps, these behaviors are considered "normal", and will NOT be "fixed". To clear out your unease, Greenify will still put them into hibernation when standby to protect your battery consumption.

You can manually put them into hibernation mode by selecting them, and hitting the pause button at the top of the screen. To help control maps make sure you don't have Google Now running or have it on in a very limited mode. (Google Now sucker punches battery. Honestly, I just presume that anyone interested in battery preservation has abandoned Google Now.) The other anti-maps tactic I use is to go to System Settings>>Location and disable "GPS satellites" and "Location & Google search." I can easily re-enable these through a widget I have set up when I need Maps capability, but it keeps the program quiet for the most part and Greenify does the rest.
The proof is in the screenshots. I never got any battery life like this before Greenify.

but in those pics i also see juice defender running, so that may be playing a part too. also there are no phone calls, phone calls take a lot of juice.
regarless of that i have witnessed significant battery improvement with this app, i think i'll be giving a donation to this guy. he deserves it.

I've had Juice Defender going as long as I've had my phone. I use the customization in ultimate, but before Greenify, I was getting around 17 hours battery life. So JD has not been a variable for me in evaluating the app.
I'm not a big phone call maker, but I do use bluetooth for music streaming a lot. I think it was so minor in comparison to the screen usage that day that it probably didn't even register 1% battery usage.
So I'm giving it a try. This a pretty much a light app that kills the app you select when you aren't using it.

Using Autorun manager (free on playstore) I killed any process under map that had the word friend in it and it has made a big difference even though Latitude has been disabled since day 1. There are lots of other battery saving and wake lock preventing things you can do with this app.

Thanks for the tip. I am trying this out as well and after 2 days, my battery life has doubled. :good: Even works very well on my wife's GNex, where the battery life is worse than the Amaze
Bear with me. If you are an expert on android maybe you can help me out here. First off, I have researched the crap out of this problem and still been unable to fix it, so YES, I did search before making this thread.
I am on a stock, rooted Verizon Galaxy S4. I have been watching my battery consumption carefully via the integrated battery settings menu, battery stats plus and wakelock detector apps. Mainly, there is a program or set of programs that typically is called "Google Services" that according to the integrated battery menu is consuming anywhere between 20-45% of my battery, sometimes more than the screen on time! My battery life is around 48hrs with 10hrs screen time but that is on the massive zerolemon 7500mah battery which I just bought, so I am not sure if that is above, below or just average (i.e. I have no real standard by which to judge).
Like I said I have read probably every thread about this problem with remedies such as; disable location, turn off google now, turn off google maps reporting, uninstall updates for google play/google play services/google framework settings, turn off google sync etc. I have tried them ALL, none seem to work. I have a feeling the issue is perhaps more in depth and above my head.
It gets more complicated. Although the stock android integrated battery menu reports it as using a massive amount of battery, the other two apps I mentioned above do not even report it, or at least not under a name that I regonize (perhaps that categorize it under a different process?). Under them screen time is by far the highest consumer.
So what to make of this? Is it a false report that the stock integrated android battery menu is reporting, and thus something to disregard? I doubt that because there are many other threads out there of people with the same problem and questions I have. But It's also not like my battery drains within hours. For instance, today I have been off the charge for 12.5hrs, with 3hrs and 40min of screen time and have 63% remaining on the 7500mah zerolemon extended battery.
If you can help, please do. If this is indeed a major drain I would really like to fix it.
EDIT: Maybe I should have posted this in the general S4 forum?
Make sure you're running the most recent version of the Play Store, version 4.1.10. There was an issue with the previous version that was causing battery drain. Just do a search for the most recent play store .apk file and install it with the package installer.

Yes! I saw this recommendation a million times. I was runing 4.1.6, which without much thought I assumed was newer than 4.1.10 (I interpreted the .10 to be a one instead of ten). But after your post it "clicked" for me, so I manually updated the play store and will see after the next charge whether it worked. Thanks again.

If it were me, I would next try flashing the no-wipe stock image from open1your1eyes0. I'm pretty sure that will fix your issue while leaving your apps & settings intact. It'll save you a lot of time and aggrevation as well.

I just updated to 4.1.10 play store and unchecked the Wifi & Mobile Network location in location setting yesterday evening. let see if this helps... today 3 hrs with no Google Services in my battery reading yet...

Well, I may have spoken too soon with my above post. As soon as I unplugged my phone earlier today I saw google services eating up the majority of my battery. But of course that only accounted for 1 or 2 minutes as I had just unplugged it. As the day progressed the amount used by google services did go up but not by as much as it previously had. So perhaps the update of google play store to 4.1.10 did work.
Currently, after being off the charger for 8hrs with about 1hr of screentime google services has used up 9% of the battery, which although not where I'd hoped is still much better than before.

well thats progress. As for myself, 1hr 27m screentime and 1 hr 40m voice call and off the charger for 10hrs 30mins. currently the battery is at 65% with no Google Services usage in sight. This is with Wifi, bt, and gps all enabled.
Go to data usage and tap on EACH program you do not need to have running background data and disable the background data. I only leave things unchecked like google play and services, email, just only a couple of things needed to get your messages. I freeze maps untill i need them and only have google location service on and gps and VZW off obviously. I only have email sync once an hour and only work email as i manually check for personal email.
Do that and your google services will behave. Android System never goes above 2% and Android OS is never above 5% unless im using wifi and such then it might creep up to about 9% after a few hours. Nothing else is ever above 9% unless its screen or device idle or cell standby.
Well, according to the stock battery report google services is still eating up my battery at 34% usage at 2h 19m. I unplugged 13h ago and used 2h 42m of screen time and am down to 28%.
BatteryStatsPlus reports google services as "Google Account Management", and although it says it has used the same time (2h 19m), it reports it as having used 6.42%. So I wonder if this is an issue of the stock battery report being too high, or whether google services really does consume 34%?
I'd really prefer to not start flashing things or wiping the phone. I hate messing with it and although I rooted it that is as far as I'd like to go. But that google play store 4.1.10 update didn't work.
I've had the phone since the beginning of December. Right since then, I have had battery drain no matter what. In the first days I experienced it even overnight, I am pretty sure with airplane mode activated....
Later on, I wiped the cache from the recovery mode, didn't fix it. I used that 'GService fix' kind of magical app that everybody said it fixed their problems...it didn't fix mine. I performed a hard reset and I did not restore the google account apps, instead I manually downloaded only the apps that I really needed.
There is no apparent pattern on when the battery drain starts: I would find my phone hot and very rapidly discharging (if not already discharged), battery temp hot and cpu temp hot. I disabled all google now functions, I disabled GPS, at first I disabled only some google functions (kept only google keep, calendar and contacts on automatic sync)....but then a couple days ago I disabled the whole automatic sync. Battery still drained without using the phone.
I had read that one reason why google service would take so much battery would be having multiple accounts, or having some problems related with google play games and its sync. I do have games installed on my phone, and they require google play games to work, so that one is installed on the device but I also read that 'people details' under google account settings is relevant to the google play games sync. And in any case as I already said, the whole automatic sync has been disabled in the past 2 days, yet today the phone drained the battery while in my pocket.
I cannot understand what is going on. I am using GSAM to try to monitor things, but till now I have only been able to understand when was the battery drain starting and when was it stopping. I never found the reason. If I choose 'since screen off' on GSAM, I can see that it is again google play services taking most of the battery.
I can see with those softwares (3c toolbox, GSAM) some things, many of them I don't understand and some of them I don't even know how to set. It's pretty useless to know that suddenly my cpu goes high in clock and keeps 90/100% load if I don't know why. There is no rogue app, otherwise it would show on top, right? I can provide these two screenshots:

First screenshot: I had the phone on my desk since 2 days or so. Wifi on, no gps, no sync. I went out around 12:00 and that seems to be exactly the time when the battery drain started. If I choose in GSAM 'since screen off', google services is on top of the list. Unfortunately this cannot be very much relate with mobile data or so, because I have experienced battery drain even with airplane mode or at home with wifi enabled. Second screenshot: I don't know what to make of those packages......
I know that other people with the Axon 7 had the same problem, I googled a lot, didn't solve anything.....and I also know that anyway on any phone this can happen. I had very randomly the same problem on the Nexus 5 but never gave it too much attention because it wasn't too bothering, it was happening every once in a while, but with this Axon 7 I am touching it every 10 minutes to see if it's burning hot or not, constantly afraid to take it out of the pocket and find it with 10% left of battery.....
Had battery drain issues and exchanged my phone under warranty. Now all is good.

Assuming you're rooted, install betterybatterystats (search for it on xda). Use the phone as you normally would. After 6-12 hours, look at the results. It should give you an idea of what's keeping the phone awake.
Here the same problem. Irregular at intervals of 1-2 days. New installation of Google Play services no change. Restart helps only a short time.

yes! same thing with me. Google Backup Transport process fires up and eats battery for no reason. Doesn't matter if backup is enabled or disabled, I also disabled appdata sync. I posted two or 3 times in this community group as well:

stock, didn't change anything and to be honest should not need to (and not even want to).
My plan: try to find a solution. Good that at least I nailed it to the process (google backup transport - gms.persistent etc etc) and can research from there. I already found tons of people who had the same problems with tons of different devices and even android version (just google com.google.android.gms.persistent battery drain and you'll find the forums full of threads....of course everybody fixed it in the most different ways, none of which worked for me till now).
2nd plan: wait for the nougat update at the end of the month and see what happens
3rd plan: change device (warranty).
I am aware it is not a hardware problem, it must be some loop in the sync (but it happens even with sync off) or a bug in google services.

5 days?? How much do you actually use the phone??
I don't know what was the cause. It was either a loop fail backup of google photos, or the update from B04 to B08 fixed it. No more drain, battery easily lasts 2 days without heavy use of the phone.

:laugh: 5 days without reboot. 2 days with one load. 8 hours display time at 24 usage.
All the US stock firmwares have the battery drain. It's usually google backup transport or google persistent gms. A reboot will fix it usually, but it will occur again later... Battery life is fine other than those 2. Let's hope lineage will be ok.
