I tried to enter recovery on my one, I have entered "safe mode" by accident a few times. What is it and will this be useful to somebody else?

It's a way to start your phone without allowing any third party apps to load up on boot. A way to disable or remove one that might be causing issues when you start up.

You can manually get into Safe Mode by holding the Power Off option when it comes up. Hold power switch until the menu comes up, then long hold the "Power Off" option.
Sorry. It was a little self serving posting this. I was hoping it would lead to something big. I don't remember my ruby, Xoom, g2x or any of my other past devices doing this.

I remember it from my HD2, but I don't recall how to invoke it.
It is useful if your phone gets messed up and you need to uninstall something.

Just got my Photon. Woo Hoo. I hope I can keep it. I have some issues but they are with Sprint, not the photon.
I am on my second one. The first Photon acted crazy where I would be just holding it on it's sides and if I would just turn it a little in one direction or another it would vibrate and the voice recognition app would come up over and over again.
Now my new one will sometimes do it. Sometimes it's the voice recognition app and sometimes it gives me 3 choices of what I want to do (which program to open). It doesnt' happen nearly as often as it did on the first one. So, now that 2 of them act strange in the same manner, my conclusion is that either I have a setting wrong or there is a bug that is causing this. Anyone else have a similar experience?
Are you stock?
Does it happen when you first get it, or do you notice it after you download an app?
Try to go to stock and do whatever you do 1 at a time until you're able to recreate it. That'll help you

My first one was stock and unrooted. It was the worse one. It did have the update.
The current one I have is stock, but is now rooted. I haven't done anything but add a couple of apps that require root (like Titanium). Works great otherwise......
OK so now I know how to make it act up. If you put it in landscape mode and kind of torque it a little while in your hands it will vibrate and then navigate itself off somewhere else or give you a choice of actions. Anyone else noticed this?

Yeah, I was thinking the same. If you hold down the search button, it brings up voice search, and double tapping home will bring up voice commands, and holding down the home key brings up recently used apps... At work we call it accidental fat fingers...

Hi, I'm considering trading my razr for a rezound (mainly due to form factor).
One issue that I've noticed on all of the display models I've tried is that the home key doesn't always recognize my touch. Sometimes it would take quite a few tries before it would vibrate and do anything... maybe holding it longer or pressing down helped, but I suspect I was imagining that part. The other soft keys seemed fine.
Does anybody know what I'm talking about? Is this a known issue? Is there just a trick to it? I didn't see it mentioned here previously, but I've experienced this at at least 3 different stores, so it's not just one bad device. Concerns me as this is quite a frequently necessary function. When you're demoing a phone and can't get it to go to the damn home screen, it's hard to convince yourself to commit to that phone for the next two years...

Neither have I.

Mine always works fine.

I've never had a problem either. Those demo phones get beat up sometimes, so I wouldn't go by that.
Hi Folks,
I have a MK802 Android PC dongle on its way. It has no on/off switch so powers up when it is given juice and is shut down by pulling the cable. This is the same as pulling the battery and is a pretty violent way of doing it.
Is there an app available that does a gentle shutdown and allows Android to clean up before it goes?
If not, would someone like to write one?
BTW, apparently the device comes already rooted.
Many thanks.

i remember a app wich is dealing ur issue but u told us its rooted so why dont u go into a terminal emulator app and shut it down there?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsImNvbS5ncnJtb2RlLnF1aWNrc2h1dGRvd24iXQ..
I could but the MK802 is going to be connected to our main TV and my wife is going to be using it too - do I have to say more?
I just need something quick, easy and idiot/blonde proof.
Thanks!

I thought it was related to root but I've had these hot reboots even before rooting so it's not just root. Most likely an app.
Same problem here

Will take a while to hunt down the app but anybody else have 'LinkedIn' app installed? It just hot rebooted while launching that app from a fresh restart - quickest hot reboot I've ever seen.
It might not be that app but then I went to the Play Store page and there are tons of 1 star reviews because the last update failed on people's phones - more interestingly the most recent comment is from a GS2 user who says latest update reboots his phone.
I've uninstalled it and I doubt I can be that lucky that it's that app and I find it so quickly but crossing my fingers.
Mine rebooted after I opened the Navigation app.
Mine is random, many different apps

Mine happened again. I've now uninstalled BetterBatteryStats. I'm going to start uninstalling stuff that uses root to roll that out. I've had these issues on stock but it happened rarely, lately it's been happening very frequently so something is going on.

I've had the same on mine. I rooted mine day 1, so no idea if it would have done it without root. I've defrosted everything in TB and still no luck.

Well I'm tired of the random hot reboots! Some people say it happened to them before rooting, but I don't believe it happened to me until I rooted and installed CWM touch......so I'm going back to stock to start all over again so I can try to narrow down the issue. I'll report back on my progress as it becomes available.

Happening often to me. The search continues. I've now uninstalled adfree. I'm positive this is an app since I had it occur on stock after two weeks of using the phone and installing crap.

I had the same problem on my previous Captivate and am having it now on the GS III; no rhyme or reason to the reboots that I can see.
I still have heat problem but I played w/ different settings to see what it is.... I had att s3 which got really really hot... So returned it for Verizon s3. Verizon is better but learned that the data (lte/s3) makes it really hot and battery drain. Also the screen, of course.
If you're rooted then go get Phone info and disable lte. I tried CDMA auto for Verizon and it got much better... But at lowered download speed. I change it when I speed the speed... Doesn't require reboot so it's easy to change.
U can also under clock using setCPU.
I don't need it to be fast normally except when playing games... So just have it at 384min and 1024max... I find this helps allot w/ heat as well... U can try and find your setting that's acceptable speed and heat.
Just sharing my experience here.... So good luck.

Happens here too with the T-Mobile GS3. I think they rushed their fabrication process to deliver a high volume and fubared a few hardwarewise. I've even had it lockup/freeze once when not even in the OS but just in the recovery menu's. But yeah, the usual is a totally random unpredictable hot reboot throwing out my resident programs, homescreen, ect. Starts with the screen being frozen and not accepting input, then a short vibration, then back to homescreen reloading and all regular apps and widges that are supposed to run at boot load again. It's as if there's a micro static short or something. Anyway, I'm sick of problem solving and looking through logcats. Going back in for warranty. This is a dream phone except for this ultra annoying bug that it seems not many people have.

Happened to me once or twice (that I noticed) in the two weeks before I rooted (stock UCALEM), and a few more times after. It's just TouchPiz being pizzy. Maybe someone can catch the logcat, but there's nothing we can do about it (except install a better ROM )
How would anyone be able to diagnose this BS
"OK. My phone is hot. And it randomly reboots".
"Crap - u r out of luck buddy. Go change ur damn phone".
Provide ur phone model, ROM version, apps installed. Check ur battery stats.
As a solution - flash any custom ROM which removes bloatware.
When I'm reading a long story on a website my phone sometimes turns the screen off thinking it was left on by mistake. This wouldn't be a problem except when I turn my phone back on it reloads the app/website I was on and throws me all the way back to the top making me have to figure out where I was just reading. Same thing will happen when I switch to a different app and come back to it. I assume this is the dreaded HTC Multitasking "feature" that everyone hates. Is there away to fix this?
Roms fix this.
