try killing the apps...
I see your wifi it on..I was having TERRIBLE idle battery drain while on Wifi. I did everything I could think of...
Until I went into one of my old Access Points and saw that "Multicast" was enabled. I turned it off and since then my Android OS levels went way down..At one point it was keeping the phone awake almost Half of the Phone On time.
THis killed me for 2 weeks...Look through all of your Router and your attached Access Points (if you have any) and disable Multicast..
Let me know if it helps out.. I'm curious if others were as affected as me.

If you are rooted you can run a "Shark" log. - Available via Store
This helped me a lot...I was able to see what IP's were causing the most traffic...Stupid me though..Even though I keep track of all of my LAN devices, I forgot that my *.*.1.2 device was actually my OLD access point that I use for legacy devices...For a while I was looking at it and thought it was the New AP I have (that the phone was connected to). If I wasnt so stupid, I would have narrowed it down sooner.

It depends on the type of router /Access Points you have.
How are you set up?
Do you know the make and model of your Wireless Device (Router/ or Access Point)
Are there more than one in your location?
Note--If you are using a public or school's AP, then you are out of luck in less you have some friends in high places.
I
I need to keep wi fi on though for data purposes and a few other reasons. Andbi also am connected to wifi at school and friends houses and other places

Disabling Multicast on the router will not disable the wifi.
You will need to find out the maker of your friends Router or access point that you connect to..Form there, just look through the settings .(can even try looking it up - Example - Google "Linksys disable multicast"
As far as your school - I cant help you there unless you know someone in the Network department that is willing to make a system wide unauthorized change.. Prolly not gonna happen. So I cant help you there..Sorry

You can sign in via Phone or computer. The address is usually 192.168.1.1.
I do not know your user name or password.
If you do not know your router's address, and you are on a PC open a command prompt and type ipconfig. Look for your gateway address.
get your gateway from your phone go into "Settings" COnnections" "Wifi" click on your Current wifi connection - Click VIEW - Your gateway will usually be the first sets of numbers...and the 4th will be a "1"...example - 192.168.1.1 or 10.10.0.1
Once again..I do not know your routers name or password - Nor can I help you get them.
Once you are signed into the router, look for the Multicast setting - It is usually in the "advanced" section
Good Luck

On the Asus RT-AC66R it shows as Multicast Rate(Mbps). Might be named differently on different routers. What router Model and Manufacture do you have?

you can configure this on your wifi router. if your wifi ap is basic one it might not have this settings. but most routers come with option to set high priority, qos etc.
Im at work tho mate.. im sure this can be done with just my phone
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Cannot see how a receiver can receive priority over others without it being set at source .
jje
The whole point of Traffic shaping would be lost if any device can set itself to a higher priority.
Some packets can set an URG-flag which stands for least-latency routing instead of least-cost routing however it's still the router's call if he respects this and if yes how he treats them.
Something else is probably incorrectly configured. It's been reported several times that the S3 is very picky when several Wifi AP's with the same name (SSID) and in reach of each other are configured on the same channel (frequency). However most hobby-admins even know not to do that, so if your company is doing it you might suggest basic network training for your IT guys. (The basics of the Wifi protocol are in roughly the 3. semester at university)
You might want to try whether forcing the device to 5Ghz band will make it better since that band is far less crowded.
Also you could check WHAT causes the issues. Often it's not the bandwith by itself but either the router's connection table (a VPN to an external server is a very good but cumbersome solution) or the DHCP (use OpenDNS or Google DNS)

I can't seem to connect to my router at home. I'm able to connect to another router closer by,but not mine.I've tried changing encryption type from open to wep, to wap. But no luck. Every time it attempts to connect it says authentication problem.
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
Try looking at your router logs when the error happens to see why it's not authenticating. Try rebooting your router.
BTW wep and wap are not recommended for authentication...that **** can be cracked by a 12 year old. Use WPA2 personal.

Netgear wgt624 I v3 i'm not home but I'm pretty sure that's the model #. Firmware updated directly from netgear website. It's weird because I can connect to open router next to my house.
The instructions are on page 4-6 in your PDF manual.
The log is a detailed record of what websites you have accessed or attempted to access. Up to 128
entries are stored in the log. Log entries will only appear when keyword blocking is enabled, and
no log entries will be made for the Trusted User.

So what youre gonna want to do is open your logs, clear them, try to connect on your phone, then look at your logs to see if the router even sees the attempt. It should show any errors as well.
What does your phone do when you try to connect?
edit: couple more questions...can anything else connect to your router? Also, your router is also a firewall. When you log in you might try and disabling the firewall feature altogether and try connecting.
I'm gonna try the logs now, and yes 3 computers are connected wirelessly. Also the phone says connecting...then says authenticating problem. I know my password is correct for sure. I'll check the logs now

Okay very weird I cleared the log file on my router. Then I attempted to connect with my phone and it gave me the authentication problem. Yet there isn't a single log file on it through my router. As if the router and phone aren't even reaching. I refreshed multiple times.

Thats strange. Your router *should* be logging auth issues.
Have you tried forgetting your wifi network on the phone and reconnecting as new? And yourer showing password to make double sure its correct? If it is, the auth issue is probably a security mismatch. Router set for WAP, youre trying to connect with WPA2, etc. Double check your router how auth is set up.

Can your phone connect to other routers/AP's using the same encryption? Or do you know? Possible your keys are corrupt.

Have you updated the firmware in your router? If so, check to see if there is any new firmware. Also what is the bit length of your passphrase? 8 or more characters. I would also have your encryption set to WPA 2 with AES not TKIP. Also try setting the channels from auto to a fixed channel, start with 1 and go from there.

I got my HTC One today and I have exactly the same router and I have exactly the same problem. Old LG 2X would connect like lightning. Tried different encryption, reset router multiple times, nothing.
Sorry if it is an old thread. sorry for bump.
I also had this "Authentication Problem" issue on my HTC Pico a few days ago. So,I also tried restarting my router, changing password and stuff like that. but it didn't worked.
out of curiosity I then switched my phone into airplane mode and waited few seconds and then back to normal. to my surprise, my phone automatically got connected to the wifi without any hassle. and hence problem solved.
Hello all!
I've been diving into tasker today, and need help with something.
I am trying to set a profile to enable a few things when I get home. I tried using the location option for input, but am having no luck. I want to use cell towers, which seems easy to do.
I would like to use the connection to my Network Extender as input as a "cell tower"
Any idea how to do this?
Thanks guys!

This would be done under Phone(I think), Cell Near. It will pick up the Network Extender as "Cell Near".
I saw that option, but I found no way to tell determine if it saw the NE or the tower when I did the scan. Ill have to unplug it, and run pre and post tests to see the tower ID'S

Hi all. At home I turn off my wifi when I go to work and when I turn it back on, my nexus 5 doesn't remember the password. My nexus S was the same. This recommends switching my router to WEP (it's currently WPA-PSK), however I'm not sure I actually CAN change this in my router settings. Shouldn't it just work anyway, or is it a router problem? Should I just stop turning off the router? This feels like it shouldn't be a problem: why can't the phone simply paste the password into the box for this specific router name & ID, rather than me typing it?
Thanks for any thoughts!
[for searchability: remember remembering forgetting forgets wifi wi-fi wireless password pw login]
Cross-post from mid Nov which got no replies on the nexus 5 forum.
Never had this issue and WiFi password should be stored in phone so I'm not seeing how its a router issue. But at the same time how often are you rebooting your router? I mean once a year is a lot to reboot a router

Seems odd that it would be a router issue but that's what those guys reckon.
I turn it off when I go to work or away for the weekend. Was quicker to put reboot in the title! In any case, it turns off & on.
Could you just circumvent all this by leaving the router on? Modern routers consume so little power that the cost should be minimum and the headaches from not working should be gone
Having said that I have never had a phone forget the password to my network when I turn my router off, when you go into settings on your phone is the WPA password still there? It should be, I keep my passwords stored in Google servers so every time I change ROMs or devices I never enter the WiFi passwords to any network I often visit.... In other words your phone should store the password and remember it when you are in range of your router, power cycling it should not effect the phones memory of this password

I could and will leave the router on more, but this still definitely happen occasionally. Let's be honest, it's not the end of the world, but it does feel like a core bug.
Not sure whereabouts in settings the password would be / be visible? All the other routers I've ever connected to are there, I think, so the password memory function is otherwise fine. Which lends weight to this router/phone issue.... however it feels like it still ends up being a phone bug, since all it takes is for the phone to paste a saved string correctly. Wish I could get other people to replicate this but IDK how they would!
Is there an obvious option to store them on the google servers?
Open settings/WiFi/ and you will see all stored hotspots, long press anyone to see if it has proper info
You may have some setting in your router that tells it to disallow devices to connect after reboot, you can go through router settings and see what's going on there, often

WiFi Tether Router worked for me with the LG G4 settings. When I tether now, my "tether" usage stays put and the mobile data goes up instead. There wasn't a way to copy the APN, though, so I had to make a new one from scratch (with the settings from the WiFi Tether Router help page).
Is the only way to change to ipv4 is by creating a new VPN setting? When I press and/or long hold on ipv6, nothing happens. If it matters, I am rooted.

With this app, I had this issue on my n6 and this device. And with the language barrier, I can't seem to explain my problem to the creator of this program. Basically, it works fine, then all a sudden in the middle of streaming to my tablet, it just stops. And on the tablet, the wifi tether no longer shows up under available wifi. But in the phone, it says wifi tether is active. I refresh on the tablet but wifi tether no longer shows up.
