Rooting and hotspot - LG V10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious if by rooting a t mobile v10, if we can bypass the hotspot throttling when we pass 7 gigs? Right now after seven gigs it gets throttled to 128kbs. I want to bypass that.

No

Yea. Unfortunately there isn't a way around it anymore. I'm sure someone will find a way but as of right now there isn't anything you can do.

Hope. There are some of the brightest people on android. So, I have hope. Now apple, well, nothing more to say. Roflmao.

WiFi Tether Router worked for me with the LG G4 settings. When I tether now, my "tether" usage stays put and the mobile data goes up instead. There wasn't a way to copy the APN, though, so I had to make a new one from scratch (with the settings from the WiFi Tether Router help page).

Is the only way to change to ipv4 is by creating a new VPN setting? When I press and/or long hold on ipv6, nothing happens. If it matters, I am rooted.

I went ahead and made a new one and made it ipv4. After reboot, my second screen was broke. So I nandroided back and that fixed it.

My data slow leaks to hotspot..maybe 60mb for 2 gb...however if I stream slingbox or the nba app the data goes right from the hotspot...hopefully someone figures that out because I use slingbox all the time on the weekend's.

With this app, I had this issue on my n6 and this device. And with the language barrier, I can't seem to explain my problem to the creator of this program. Basically, it works fine, then all a sudden in the middle of streaming to my tablet, it just stops. And on the tablet, the wifi tether no longer shows up under available wifi. But in the phone, it says wifi tether is active. I refresh on the tablet but wifi tether no longer shows up.

No, you can also access the hidden menu with 277634#*# and just click the "APNUnlock" option.

No way to bypass it as its enforced at the networking level at the towers.

Hey if it's any help my iPhone shows a ac Network connection not a normal wifi connection and the iPhone (jailbroken using tether me app) shows no hotspot use but my v10 does and shows a normal wifi network can't upload a screenshot from my I Pad but I can email if u pm me a email address. Also on my old note 3 it useto burn up all my hotspot data but then continue to work after that so I would be fine with that as well lol however I don't think that will be a option anymore as now the tethering is "unlimited " 128k after 7gb also I always had to have my laptop open with chromebot on for some reason it seamed to work as a work around even thou I wouldn't even be tethering just to the laptop (very weird to me) just thought I would throw out my thoughts for u developers. Who know what u r doing as I have a idea but wouldn't say I know all that much about this

Wifi tether

Is there a Wifi tether version that works on the x2? I'm rooted of course & supercharged & need something that isn't just ad-hoc. Already tried barnacle & the native app with phone toggle and so far its a bust. Is qpst an option?
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
I'm in the same boat, I used QSPT to get the dun out of my tethering app, but it kept getting replaced.

Sorry just read entire post
Yeah, that makes an ad-hoc network. Is there an option for infrastructure?
This version of wifi-tether works for my win7 nwtbook but not my vista laptop. What do I need to do for the qpst method? Did it in my fascinate by going in with dun enabled. Can't seem to find how to enable it in the x2.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
As it stands the QPST don't work. as soon as you reboot it overwrites the change.
I use barnacle with no issue, rooted with v6.
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA Premium App
The problem is barnacle make ad-hoc also.
really? no wifi-hotspot for us yet?
I see the VZW application on my phone, haven't tried it yet though, didn't sign up for it. I wonder do they just charge me for it if I was to use it? Or would they call me up & scold me first?

They wont scold you for trying it. But it won't work unless you sign up for the additional service which costs $25 or $29 per month (can't remember which).
Is there no root app that allows us to use the Droid X2 as a wifi tether without the extra monthly charge? I keep seeing references to others who say they are doing this, but no one seems to want to say exactly what app they are using.

Actually I just tried it and I can connect to the internet with my W7 laptop with that ad-hoc tether program running on my Droid X2. I'm sending this reply over that connection.
I guess, as implied earlier in the thread, W7 makes provisions for ad-hoc. Don't know about other versions of Windows. My Samsung Galaxy Tab cannot see the connection.
still looking for a hotspot instead of ad-hoc wireless tether though, got multiple wi-fi devices that I may want to connect...
I am interested in the infrastructure Wifi as well. I am attempting to connect a Color Nook to the DX2 and can't get it to recognize the ad-hoc network.
for the NC, you have to dload an adhoc wifi supplicant file. then you have to replace the existing wifi supplicant file w/ it and then reboot. your NC should now be able to see and connect to ad hoc networks.
google is your friend.

FWIW The Wifi Teather program works with the new 2nd Generation B&W nook (at least since firmware update 1.0.1 - don't know if it worked before). So now the ad-hoc wifi teather works with my laptop running Win7 and my completely stock nook. I'm happy
im assuming there is no solution yet. im still using the ad-hoc method for now. but i would love to see a true hotspot
I don't know why people don't understand that you specifically said infrastructure vs ad hoc. You can use the phone for infrastructure for free.
First use the hotspot app and wait for it to start up.
Hook up your computer and open your browser
when it takes you to verizons website, all is good.
go to your phones dialer and type in *#*#INFO#*#* or *#*#4636
select phone info
go down almost to the bottom and you will see a button that says "turn off radio"
Press this and wait 10 seconds and press it again to turn it back on.
Now when it regains 3g signal you should have internet access on your computer.
You may have to redo this a few times for it to work. It works for me 75% of the time. Sometimes it doesn't work but most of the time it does.
Good luck

Wifi tether beta 6 . Change the network to infrastructure . Now, I'm not sure if it will work on the Photon, but it works on a ton of other devices. Not sure why it wouldn't.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
I use tether beta 6 also. I set the device-profile to "samsung galaxy s" and the setup-method to "Netd (master)." I also have the routing fix enabled, but I dont know if that is necessary. It will give an error at startup, but everything works. You should then be able to connect your PS3. It works for mine.
This may be a dumb question but, why? Even if you could play games on Photon, PS3 is across the room? Again, maybe I'm missing something (easy to do!)

It lets them get on Sprint's Network with the PS3 so they can sign into the Playstation Network, and maybe play games if they connection is fast enough where they are. Does 4G work with this or are you stuck on Sprint's crappy 3G?

First i'll start by sayin i'm a COMPLETE NOOB, But managed to connect to ps3 and psps.I have root Inspire and using wifi tether 3.1 beta11. Inside the settings it had 8.8.8.8 primary dns 8.8.4.4 alternate....I simply put those same dns number in settings of ps3 and psps. Worked fine, although signal in my house is terrible(3 bars/edge) I too checked routing fix, but i think the dns thing is what really did the trick. Also, just to let you know I didnt change any other settings in ps3/psp. Hope it helps

Wifi not connected no data

My Android Tablet or phone are having problem connecting to a hidden network.
Set up the hidden network,i see my tablet or are connect to the hidden network but i got no DATA.
My friend IOS(Ipad or Iphone) connect to the same hidden network and everything works fine,my windows laptop work fine too.
Is it a problem with Android or I'm doing something wrong.
Any help?
I don't know about Prime connecting to a hidden network, but if you're disabling your router's SSID broadcast in hopes that it'd be hidden, don't. Any scanner will be able to pick up your router signal, SSID or no. And if anybody wants to get on your wifi, they'd be using a scanner. All you're doing is inconveniencing yourself, like this particular instance.

Just to make sure, you are adding the network manually while not connected to any networks, using appropriate security correct?

I have the same problem with the wireless at my school. It must have something to do with multiple access points that overlap. It will always connect but can't pull any data. Sometimes after you wait for a while it will start working. Very strange.
Windows laptop always works fine.

It could be an issue with android that has been overlooked due to the small amount of people who probably connect to a hidden network with an android device.

Free Hot Spot/Tethering App. No Modifying needed.

ES File Explorer
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sMSwxLDMsImNvbS5lc3Ryb25ncy5hbmRyb2lkLnBvcCJd
The app I use is mainly for File browsing, but I've noticed with the new version is has the ability to turn on Tethering and by-pass the carrier check (on AT&T at least).
No system file modification needed.
Simply go to:
Menu -> Tools -> Net Manager
Downloaded and confirmed it works. This definitely a big plus!

I'm a new customer to AT&T. So... what is the likelihood that they will catch you and do something drastic, like cancel your service or something? I don't have unlimited data, so it's not like I would abuse it.

Chances are low. Extremely low. I've never been notified once on Android. Even if they detect you they are obligated to send you a written warning before they charge you for extra features. I know this from unauthorized tethering on my iPhone.

You're definitely confused, so I'll help.... The ATT Hotspot app is to connect your phone to the wireless hotspot ATT provides for free at various locations so you don't use your data plan
Wireless tethering is to connect another device (laptop, WiFi tablet, another phone, etc) to use your data plan on your phone wirelessly, turning your phone into a router, receiving data and broadcasting an SSID like your WiFi at home / work does
Make sense?

So seems like you must paying for service. This app you using ( stock Mobile Hotspot) dose not work for free with At&t phones if you do not paying for service. I just try and asking me to call 611 for activating tethering.

hrmmm, i guess i need to figure that out... im new to att, just switched when getting this phone. all i know is i am on their mobile share plan with unlimited talk & text, then we pay for the 4g data plan. so maybe the fee is built into the 4gb share data plan.
edit: yea just did some reading and because i am on a mobile share plan there is no fee. i guess that solves y i was confused to begin with on why the op posted this option for free tethering when i can use the built-in for free to tether.

[Q] Tethering & Data Connection Issues

So Im using stock ICS 4.0.4 from the latest OTA update and Im rooted. Everything usually works fine but every few weeks something happens to my ability to tether. Im using Wireless Tether for Root Users from https://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ . Any other tethering app fails to work including FoxFi. I start tethering and get no errors and everything is fine for a minute. I have full connection and speed. After about 1 or 2 page loads my speed suddenly drops so low that web pages time out but skype and steam will stay connected but weatherbug will not. I can't actually call anyone on skype. Pings to google work with 100+ms. If I turn off the data connection on my phone and turn it back on then I can load pages but again for only a minute or a few page loads. If I reboot my phone then I have no problems at all until I turn on the tethering app. I can do speed test after speed test with 15-24 Mbps download and roughly the same upload. Until I turn on that tethering app. By Turn on I mean press the button to start tethering. Turning off the tethering does not restore normal connection until I either turn the data connection off/on or reboot the phone. My settings from the app are:
Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
Setup Method: Auto
Wifi Encryption: Enabled @ WPA2-PSK
Wifi-Driver Reload 1 and 2 checked
Keep Alive Checked
MSS Clamping: Checked
Routing fix: Checked
Using google DNS Servers
Disable Wake-Lock: Checked
I've tried changing DNS servers but I can resolve google's IP during the ping test. I've tried other profiles but this one is the only one that works. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and did a factory reset with no luck. After a day or 2 the problem seems to mysteriously disappear and things return to normal. I've got the old unlimited data plan I was originally forced into from Verizon. I've been told by several Verizon reps that they cannot throttle my connection for any reason and I do not have any sort of limit due to licensing agreements with the FCC. Since everything works fine before turning on tethering (I used the phone for hours) then it sounds like something the app is doing to the phone's settings. Verizon says there are no outages in the area but I didn't think that was the issue anyways since turning off the data connection and back on gives me a normal connection for a minute. While this does go away after a day or 2 thats a couple days without internet. I would appreciate any help I could get with it at this point as hours and hours of google searches returned a few people having the issue but no working solutions other than getting a different phone. Does anyone have an ideas? Thanks.
Change the profile to the rezound and disable mss clamping. I had issue with the tether doing the same thing when mss clamping was enabled.

Possibly but this same issue has been noted for several other users. I happen to be one of them that seems to get throttled at times. It usually happens when I tethered using lte and used it for some high bandwidth stuff like gaming or streaming movies. The thing is that Verizon does something called bandwidth shaping which causes them to slow your speeds based on the traffic in your area.

The CPU governor has nothing to do with the data side haha. It is just something vzw does and they don't do it to everyone though. I could tether to my ps3 and play call of duty over lte and get lag. Switch to 3g and be perfectly fine.
