My wife's htc one is setting off the anti theft alarms in stores. The ones that are by the exits when you enter/exit. Any clue why it would be doing this? My SGS 4 doesn't do this. I checked to make sure the nfc was off in case that was the issue. Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this?
I have to say that is a first. I have been in and out of many stores and I have not had the security alarms go off once. I have read people with this issue with other phones but it always turned out to be something else. Has you wife tried walking through without the phone to confirm this?
Idk about this. Access control tags are hard to duplicate.. granted its possible that an ID tag could have the same numbers but it is very unlikely. Depending on the access control system and the credentials that system is using, the likelihood of getting the same ID is almost nonexistent. Unless someone is trying to hack an access control system and happens to know the numbering scheme of said system, this just sounds like a random event if it really happened.
Plus, how do we know the HTC One uses the same frequency / credential types of access control systems?

Try to find the soft tag on the case. Soft tags are small anti theft devices they could be size of dot. If you can't find it try to demagnetize the case for the phone.

I don't pay attention to those alarms. I'm not a slave to technology. It's amazing how often a clerk forgets to deactivate the tag an merchandise. I don't even break stride when the alarm goes off anymore. I've yet to be challenged.

So, has anyone seen this? I hope Steve would be proud. This temp ban is ridiculous. Glad most of the devs for their hands on the one x, but block the new evo from even being released is going too far. I hate apple....

Yeah, pretty crazy. Too bad HTC doesn't have the legal heavy weight that Samsung has, or they would have been able to work something out. Apple sucks. Shutting down imports due to "pinch to zoom" or something equally rediculous.

Yikes. I don't care for Apple personally, but I certainly don't wish death upon anyone.
If they really have patents on their technology, then they are doing the right thing by protecting their intellectual property. You just can't go around stealing other peoples stuff. I'm not saying HTC or Samsung or anyone else stole anything, just saying that IF they did - then they are facing their consequences.
The Patent War has gotten out of control with ALL the manufactures. Just seems this is the first that has actually stopped a device in its tracks. All this patent stuff is BS I would hate having the job of making sure a device doesn't infringe on one of Apples, Samsungs, Motorola, Googles, etc's patents. I would be willing to be that just about any device would infringe on some patented somewhere.
BTW I'm currently Patenting how I tie my shoes SO WATCH OUT..

It has gotten out of control. Something so minor should not be enough to block a shipment. Plus, that is a feature BUILT into Android, so they should not be after HTC but Google for that. I think devices that have skins can be attacked more because they added those patent violating features themselves vs. just building from google's source.

The patent they are talking about was applied for back in 1996 and granted in 1999. It is for clicking on a recognizable text string and bringing up a menu or performing a UI action. So, yes, clicking on a telephone number will no longer bring up the dialer, or clicking on an email address will not bring up the email app, etc. Which I think is ****ing bull****. It's common sense that when I click on a telephone number it brings up the dialer. Who wouldnt think of that? I didnt think things that were blatantly obvious were patentable. But I guess if you're crApple you can get anything patented.

This patent crap has gotten out of control. This is basically how computers work.
Imagine on your home computer, clicking on a link in xda and it doesn't open, just highlights it, then you have to copy and paste to go to that page.
Why would apple be given a patent for this? Its ridiculous and HTC has ALREADY removed the feature from their phones so the fact that they are still blocking them is asinine.

Oh I agree, but that is for the courts to decide. I think it needs to be more in-depth. Like prove that the programming code was stolen or something. Not just that the end result is the same. Kind of like prescription drugs. There are the brand names that have the rights to it, and then there are generics that are the same thing but branded differently.

I felt the same way when I first heard about it. After seeing it and using it I have to say that I feel very differently about it. It's a cool idea and very convenient to have all your coupons and loyalty cards in there and automatically applied as you make your purchase. That being said, Isis is the system that will probably win out in the end.

This thread got so word so quick. I'm surprised the mods haven't closed this thread yet simply based on who started it and now I'm even more surprised it's still open based on how off topic it has become.

anyway, sorry for off-topic, but I have to say that the thread about "downloading update from AT&T and pushing it to the phone" "basically tricking the phone" didn't come across as a joke to me, but rather a very strange and bewildering attempt to scam people for donations. and you did it again with the "HTC logo as a capacitive button" thread. I they were both jokes, perhaps you should bounce them off someone before posting, just to see if anyone else finds them funny.

Not if it becomes an official recall you can't just ignore it. Legally speaking anyways you are not supposed to and all responsibility would fall on you if you ignored it.
But it's not that type of recall yet.

Something is super off about the article. All of the previous fires were while charging. This one the guy says it happened when he turned the phone off. Its actually smart. If you are going to sue the company, you need to have the phone in hand before you file the legal claim. You turn the phone over to the courts to prove you have the phone. If your phone catches on fire root means nothing lol. The heat alone will make it impossible for them to tell if the phone was rooted.
Man everybody is so sue happy in this day and ageā¦ ..lol

But this shows how people are self-center. I understand to get some extra money, but they make some other honest people worried. And then all people who have no problems with ther phone should report too?

I think all of this is customer fault. I had old one and I run whatever I want to and my phone was just warm. New one whatever I do or charge wireless or with c-usb is cold. No problem at all. They must doing something to they phone that make them run hot, like root and installing some software etc.
