Vodafone branded but not locked. - Nokia Lumia 920

Is there a way to debrand the 920 from Vodafone?
Bought one yesterday after 5 years of using android to try something new. It seems it has a Vodafone ID number, updated to the latest version RM-821/1038.007. No simlock though and allthough everything is working fine i would like to now if there is a way to flash a unbranded firmware version.

Hi,
You alwasy can remove branded apps and the only branding left will be boot logo.
You can try http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f60...ting-care-suite-download-1660094/#post9434277 to flash using RM-821 VAR EURO1 DEVELOPER DEVICE BLACK 059R4H6 which is dev device without any branding.

I was allready able to delete all Vodafone apps and everything works fine. I think i leave it as it is, only the Vodafone logo shows when booting and off course the Vodafone ID.

Funny, I had the same thing with my previous WP 7 phone, an HTC Titan. On first use it booted in German, and after some research I found it was from Austria from a stock sold by a Vodaphone subsidiary Vodaphone had to divest itself from. But apart from the Vodaphone logo on boot it was not only non-simlocked but not customized as shown by the firmware version number.

[Q] Update to Lumia 800 come from Germany or Portugal?

I have a problem regarding the update of my lumia 800. I bought via ebay a lumia 800 from germany but know i am using it in portugal with vodafone. The phone i think is unlocked but is branded to vodafone germany as the product code is the one from germany as it i can see in the nokia webpage support. There i can see that there is an update available for my device "059L701" but via zune its just says that my device as already the latest firmware. Currently i have the 12070 firmware and i don´t know why it won´t update. Can it be because i am using vodafone portugal as carrier and not vodafone germany? And how do i know if the phone is factory unlocked or was unlocked by some sort of firmware?
I have an unlocked United Kingdom Variant phone I am using in the USA on T-Mobile, so similar issue.
Try the disconnect trick on Zune, but make sure both your Cell data and Wifi are both turned OFF, or it won't work.
why you dont flash with NSS
i´m portuguese to and i dont receive update to
but i´m download FW from United Kingdom Variant TANGO
and its work very well

[Q] is it possible to flash a german vodafone branded 920 with a stock rom?

I have the chance to get a vodafone branded lumia 920 very cheap but i have a few questions before i´ll accept the offer and i hope someone can help me out:
1. does anybody here have a clue about what the branding is actually like? boot up logo? some custom apps?
2. is there any chance (and if so: how) to flash a/the generic unbranded rom on it to get rid of everything that might be on it?
would be great if someone could give me a headsup on this one!
same phone only black

I have a lumia 920 branded on vodafone germany and it's locked , and can't seem to unlock it.
Contract phones aren't locked in Germany.
059Q8M3 is the product code for the black variant - you can use any simcard you want to use with it.
Please check your product code.
ok asume is true

1. Branding is a boot logo, extra tile color and not much else visible.
2. Yes.
PS: Someone might look this up.

Hi Ellokomen.
Probably a stupid question, but what are the advantages of a developer ROM?
The Developer ROM has been there since at least November (as that's when I downloaded it)...
I don't know how significant it is, but there was never a Portico version of the Developer ROM before they were all pulled so it doesn't appear it's first on the list for updates if that is what you were thinking.

The portico version of the developer ROM is now available (see 1232.5951.1249.1002 - RM-821 VAR EURO1 Developer Device).
But again: what would be the advantage of flashing that to my phone?!?
Can the Developer rom side load apps?

+1 me too...just downloading...is safe to flash this ROM?
I think it would help to remove the internet sharing block on AT&T and rogers phones.
Has anyone tried to flash this RM-821 ROM onto a RM-820 device? I know that technically they are different phones but you could flash the RM-819 (Lumia 800) onto a RM-801 without issue aside from perhaps a missing 3G band. But the 820/821 have exactly the same 3G bands just different LTE (which I don't care about) so it shouldn't be an issue right?

Perfect, thanks! I also don't live in an LTE market so I could give two sh!ts about the LTE working or not but removing all the att crap is a must for me.

That's odd because when I tried to flash the RM-820 ATT Firmware to my international RM-821 Lumia Nokia Care Suite said that it's for a different model (or sthg like that) and then aborted the flashing process. This left my phone "soft bricked" - meaning that I had to re-flash it with a RM-821 ROM to get it working again.
I wonder if this Dev ROM might actually be a RM-820 ROM that is only (by mistake) labeled as RM-821?????
Has anyone tried to flash it to a RM-821 international model yet? Because from what I know the only Dev phones were RM-820 models and that always left me wondering why there is a Dev ROM for RM-821 but non for RM-820 when on the other hand there are only RM-820 Dev phones but no RM-821 dev phones.

It's not mistakenly mislabeled b/c nokia care suite now identifies my att lumia as a RM-821 (originally RM-820) and now in extras+info the manufacturer model name is RM-821_eu_euro1_425 so it's obviously designed as a european rom.

Well this makes me wonder whether RM-820 and RM-821 might actually be the exact same phone hardware wise with only some (artificial) lock preventing cross-flashing between those variants ...
Would be interesting whether you could flash other non-developer RM-821 ROMs to your RM-820 now and also if you could still flash it back to an RM-820 AT&T or Rogers ROM.
product id incorrect

@alfaro58
Did you try it using the latest version of Nokia Care Suite?
@patrick92260
Which product code does Nokia Care Suite show for your phone now? The original AT&T one or the one for the RM-821 Developer ROM?

It shows the product code for the RM-821 dev rom and identifies it as RM-821.
edit: looked at the wrong place for the product code. It still has the original ATT product code but NCS still identifies it as an rm-821
I just tried to flash my att Lumia several times but just get the phone bricked and flashed back to att rom
Sent from my RM-820_nam_att_100 using Board Express
Oddly the update menu entry is grayed out for me too but you can download a later version here:
http://www.seidea.com/2013/01/03/nokia-care-suite-pst-5-0-2012-51-4-4/
(don't forget to uninstall the old version before installing the new one!)
What @patrick92260 said about his phone now being identified as RM-821 and even with the Developer phone's product code makes it seem like he did not only flash the phone to a different ROM (with keeping the phone's original identity [model, product code] intact) but he also somehow managed to overwrite the part that holds those "phone identity information" with the ones of the Dev phone.
Maybe this has sthg to do with the version of NCS being used:
-the old version just flashed the ROM but didn't touch the "phone identity information", it allowed to flash to a different product code but refused to flash to a different model (RM-821/RM-820) and even after flashing to a different product code the phone still had it's original product code
-now the new version on the other hand might not only flash the ROM but might also overwrite the "phone identity information" with the ones of the ROM you are flashing and is thereby effectively changing the phones "identity" (model, product code) to the one of the ROM you're flashing.
This is just a theory of mine but when summing up the facts that:
-a few weeks ago I was unable to flash my RM-821 to an AT&T Portico ROM and now @alfaro58 tried it the other way round (flashing his RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) and we both ended up "soft bricking" our phones and had to re-flash them with the "correct" model's firmware to un-brick them
-a few months ago sb tried to unbrand his Roges RM-820 by flashing an RM-821 ROM and he also ended up soft-bricking it and then had to wait for a few days until a RM-820 ROM became available on Navifirm before he could unbrick his phone by flashing one of those
[email protected] now basically did the same thing that other guy did a a few months ago (flashing an RM-820 with an RM-821 ROM) but instead of soft-bricking his phone it seems that he even managed to not only flash it with an RM-821 ROM but to actually make it an RM-821 phone.
All these facts kinda lead me to that assumption that it might have sthg to do with that new Nokia Care Suite version that was released earlier this month.
If I still had that buggy pre-Portico ROM on my Lumia I wouldn't hesitate trying to flash my RM-821 to a Rogers or AT&T ROM (because those seem to be first in line when it comes to updates - or at least they were this time) but with my phone now working perfectly with that RM-821 Entel ROM and me having several exams during the next few days I'm really not going to wipe my perfectly working phone just to prove this theory right or wrong - I hope you understand that.
@patrick92260 Which version of Nokia Care Suite did you use?
@alfaro58 Maybe you want to install the new NCS version and then try to flash your phone with the RM-821 firmware again using that updated NCS version?

Flash Lumia 520 rm-915 with a rm-914 rom?

Hi there,
Recently I've stayed in US for a short trip and I bought to my sister an AT&T Lumia 520 gophone. I did sim unlock but I want to unbrand the phone also.
The phone has RM-915 ID, I have found Spanish country variant (EU ES CV) but only for RM-914. Could I flash the phone with rm-914?
I tried this afternoon with Nokia Care but I got an error about signatures of the fw. I use "normal" mode, and I want to ask before use "dead phone" mode and brick the phone.
In case that I cant flash with rm915 I will flash to AU CV or IL CV (Israel) to unbrand the phone, but that will be a pitty becasu she use a mvno and au or il fw probably don't include Spanish mvno mcc... and shows always as roaming...
Thanks,
regards, iker

[Q] My phone product code doesn't exists with RM-821?

Hy,
I updated to Win 10 dev prev my black Lumia 920 ( i know, bad idea) and when trying to revert to 8.1 , both the Windows Phone Recovery Tool and the Lumia Software Recovery tool can't find any packages for my phone. I bought it on amazon, a factory unlocked global variant, when i first booted it was on Chinese, read it was from hong kong in the about section.
The strange part is that the lumia software shows the model as 059L848 , which according to a product list on gsmhosting forums( just google it, sadly I can't put links) is an AT&T RM-820 phone, but it also says on the lumia suite that it's a RM-821. I can confirm it's an RM-821 cause that's what it says under the sim
Does my product code actually exists? I mean, 059L848 with RM-821?
The main question is, can I flash another rom? Maybe 059Q5C6 RM-821 GLOBAL BLACK SWAP will work?
Looked a bit more in the list of roms and there's only one RM-821 from hong kong black, the rom 059Q805 RM-821 VAR APAC HK CV BLACK
Will leave it downloading, anyone could at least say they think it could work? Don't want to flash blind, while it's not fully working with windows 10 preview, at least is working. Don't want to brick it.
Anyone? I still haven't tried to flash that ROM, just in case.
Just found out that on the box it says 059Q805 as product code, so will flash that ROM and say how it goes.
Well, it worked perfectly. Back with 8.1 now
