Heat caused screen discoloration - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

First of all I want to point out that i'm not blaming anyone other than myself. I know it was my retarded act that caused this so no need to come in the thread and say it was my fault and that i'm king of tardland.
So, the other night. I left a 3d game on my phone and plugged it into my charger and then fell asleep with the mofo under my pillow. I also have a hybrid case on it if that makes any difference for everyone to know. A layer of silicon, and an outer of plastic.
AHHHH. I wake up the next morning, the phone had not throttled or shut off, it was too hot to touch, so I immediately killed it, unplugged it and waited for it to cool. When I booted back up, it looked like-a-this!
Here on google plus, shouldn't require a login
You can see a central square where the proc is that got hottest and then it fans out from there. Crazy stuff.
Like i said, I shouldn't have fallen asleep with the damn thing under my pillow, this i know. But damn samsung, people be fallin asleep.... people be fallin asleep! Does the stock kernel not have a thermal shutdown?
It is getting replaced free of charge of course, but I wanted this info to be out there so no one else falls asleep on theirs. Thanks for reading guys!

wait, so you left the screen on ALL night, under your pillow?
damn dude. lol
and i heard that they do shut down at a certain temp! that's weird it didn't..that sucks

That sucks. How many hours would you say it was under the pillow?

The on board temp sensor should trump all other settings and turn the phone off.

Are you running stock? I have a setcpu profile that will throttle down the cpu if it gets too hot. However, the reason the screen didn't go off is because you had a game open and since it thinks you are playing or watching something it will not time out.
Glad you are getting a free replacement!

I have had that happen with the S3 before, but was not a resource hungry app running and was running at 384 instead of full speed.
Had it with a tablet as well and was a resource hungry game. No display discoloration though, but likely due to a bigger footprint to displace heat better.

I have a condition that causes me a lot of pain. So I was only asleep roughly 3 hours. Which is as long as I am able to sleep every night lol.

I was running a rom. It was an official verizon tw based rom. I feel it is important that I do not disclose which rom I was on as it was not a rom problem and I do not wish to discourage people from downloading it.

Actually, that could be entirely important if said rom had a custom kernel.

Oh ****. The rom I had was a stock kernel that is why I said it was not relevant.... but you just made me remember that earlier that day I flashed a custom kernel. Let me look at its github and talk to developer about the default settings before I name said kernel lol.

not sure if anyone else has seen this but mine is starting to have the same effect.....without being under my pillow.
dim the screen to lowest setting and look at a gray image. Top of mine has red tint while bottom has green tint

[Q] Home button coming lose. [SGS2]

Hi guys,
I've noticed over the past few weeks that the hard button (home button) has been coming a bit lose on the right side.
It tends to make a squeaking sound when touched lightly however the button functions at 100%.
Anyone else notice the home button loosening a bit?
Some GS2s have firm and some have loose home button, so no need to panic as long as it works.
Apply a little pressure to the right side of the button. Does it eventually click in place? So that you no more have a loose button?

Yeah that works.... but eventually later on it comes lose again.
Would it be something underneath, the creaking sound its really pissing me off.
I had this, i sent it for repair which fixed it. However, 2 weeks later its loose again.

Definitely - I mean look at the statistics. There's over 6,000,000 of these things in circulation and there's 2 people on this thread with the same problem! Samsung should get their act together.
This is utterly disgusting

You're right. It's a buildquality thing.
I own mine a few months now, dropped it like 10 times and apart from a little chip in the upperlefthandcorner it still looks good, I don't use a case or anything.

i feel like i got the same thing on my s2
the button is not loose but it moves in place; hardly distinguishable though unless you use a magnifying glass
many reported having light leaking on the sides of the button, i don't have that,
i don't know if i should be happy or
phone is overall fine, its the closest you can get to perfect, with the exception of some varying degree of yellow tint, which i know will be resolved when the official 2.3.4/.5 rom release in my region.
other than that, handle with care, lol.
is it normal for there to be some flexibility when touching the home button, or is the home button suppose to stay in one place? I noticed that the home button moves around its housing a bit (i dont know if this is the right word to use)
if you get too picky about it you can sometimes hear a a minuscule squeak, but when pressing from an extreme corner.
let me know
I had this also but I was able to snap it back...

touch screen calibration off?

It seems to be off at the top and bottom of the screen. It will click on things above my finger at the top of the screen, but below my finger at the bottom. Always closer to the edge. In the middle is perfect.
Any one else notice this? Should I exchange it?
Aiming for the middle of the boxes.

Same here. While I do have a dead pixel toward towards the bottom, my main reason for wanting to exchange it is how the touch is off on the top and bottom.

I wonder if its a widespread problem, or isolated. I'd hate to unroot and return it to end up with the same thing.
Same feelings here. There's not really a definitive guide how to prep this phone for a warranty return. Not sure what that all entails, aside from the obvious.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I know this is a slightly older thread but I have an update since last.
Returned my phone today 'primarily' because of a dead pixel.
But the screen digitizer is no longer off near the top and bottom. So much better! No more accident double spaces causing a period or accidently turning on caps.
Didn't think it was that annoying until it's gone and I don't have to deal with it anymore.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
I decided to keep my phone, and not exchange it. It's not off enough to justify it, and everything else on the phone works perfectly, so I'm just gonna live with it.
ill return mine... just sick of it

And this screen calibration setting would be located...? I've looked over and over and never seen any option in various roms to calibrate the screen.
Settings/display horizontal and gyro settings fixed one of my friends. It was off but isn't anymore. Though it has nothing to do with the touch but it fixed it...

Touchscreen
Not sure if I'm experiencing the same problem. I dropped a post on another thread but this seems to be more like it..
My example (I'm not as techie I guess) would be:
Tap on engadget app - No problems
Tap on a story - No problems
Tap on the comments - Have to do this repeatedly till it comes up
This isn't the only app or problem obviously but that's the one I notice the most.
I am on the verge of returning it considering it's a 200.00 phone.. I shouldnt have to tap something 4 times to get the item to respond. It's really frustrating. I am rooted, stock only. No custom rom. Thought it could be because I am rooted, running Go EX Launcher, Live wallpaper, etc but even using the stock launcher w no live wallpaper and eliminating some other things it doesnt make a difference. I did try the screen/gyro cal and it made no difference. Please let me know if you guys are having the same issue.. My return period is rapidly coming up..

My Note II Performed Seppuku Last Night

I guess it was pissed off that I neglected it for the last few days.
Plugged it into the charger last night, heard the chime, and that was that.
Pulled it off this morning, it was very hot (top right, not battery) and it won't turn on at all.
Le sigh.

Seppuku (切腹?, "stomach-cutting") is a form of Japanese ritual suicide by disembowelment. Seppuku was originally reserved only for samurai. Part of the samurai bushido honor code, seppuku was either used voluntarily by samurai to die with honor rather than fall into the hands of their enemies (and likely suffer torture), or as a form of capital punishment for samurai who had committed serious offenses, or performed for other reasons that had brought shame to them. The ceremonial disembowelment, which is usually part of a more elaborate ritual and performed in front of spectators, consists of plunging a short blade, traditionally a tantō, into the abdomen and moving the blade from left to right in a slicing motion.[1]

Not if done properly. There was always someone there to perform a decapitation right after the motion was performed. If done correctly there would be just enough skin left so that the head was still attached, just hanging like a flap.

Heh, you aren't alone.
This sounsd an awful lot like the SDS issue.
I thought my phone nuked itself once too. In a situation very similar to the one you describe. I plugged it in one night, fell asleep, and woke up late for work because my alarm didn't go off. I grabbed my phone and it was scary hot (like, melted electronics hot) so I unplugged it, pulled the battery and left it to sit and cool.
Turns out I had left GTA running all night so it had my processor and graphics ramped up all the way. Whoops : / I thought it was toast, but everything worked fine after it cooled
I'm gonna go crack a beer and pour a little out for yer homie!

Do you play a lot of games or hold the device in landscape often?
I'm just spit-balling here, but.. could be oil from your palm penetrating the stock screen protector? or between stock and your screen protector?
Maybe it was there from the start but I never noticed it. Haven't played any games on it or had my finger there.
I really wonder what it is and why you can only see it when breathing on it, when I wipe it clean its really hard to see.
How easy is it to remove the ASF?

Temp gets hot and battery drains so fast

Just want to confirm whether anyone is in the same boat. My G5 SE gets warm at the back during normal use (youtube, browser, whatsapp, tinder, pokemon go(with or without)) and the battery drains so fast that I can charge it 3 times a day. Been using for like 3 months, it could last almost a day and half when it was new during the first couple weeks.
On thermal section CPU-Z application showed:
