So I have de-branded my DoCoMo 32GB LTE with the SGB321 16GB LTE and all works great!
I'm just looking for some help with resizing the partition as obviously the firmware came from 16GB version.
I have downloaded the app called DiskInfo and that finds the full 32GB which is good, but im just not sure how to go about resizing it.
I cant find a ftf that's 32GB LTE :s
Any assistance would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks guy
Sony devices usually use GPT partition tables. You should be able to increase the size of the userdata partition to fill the unused space.
Beware of what you're doing - I'd check it with someone who has done it before doing this (I did it once on am older device)
If in doubt, be careful and wait until checking with someone who knows more about the partitions, and what you'll get away with... I believe it's safe, but not sure for the tablet Z

I suggest you not wait for someone to come to you, instead search XDA Developer's forums for the information you need.

you really need to look at the specific device. It has been done on devices in the past to sigcheck the MBR or GPT resulting in brick, just because it can be done on one device, does not mean it can be done on another.
For Sony the partition table was modifiable and unsigned at least on 2012 devices, I cannot be certain on 2013 (Z series devices) because I personally have gone a different direction for what I was modifying the partition table for

Normally on stock GingerBread, for the 16GB model it has a 2GB partition for system and apps and the rest for the "Internal SD" partition (usually 13~ clean GB).
Does this change on ICS? I remember reading when ICS was presented that all the space was unified, does this apply for the ICS stock roms for the S2 or this is hardware-based and doesn't apply?
Anyway, in the case nothing changes in the ICS stock roms, there's any way to modify those partitions size?
Thank you in advance.
Okay, after reading and asking some, I've got to the conclusion that you can modify the partitions structure, however it involves touching the .pit so its a major risk issue.
I'd be glad if you could confirm guys.
Thank you in advance.

If I were to go about repartitioning the flash, what should I/would I need to do to preserve current partition layout, making sure I can easily restore to "normal". Obviously backup all the partitions, what else though?

I might be wrong but from what I read in other threads, repartitioning the SIII is not as easy as for instance the HTC Desire and might brick your device with a high probability. maybe someone with more experience could answer your question though.
Nvr do re partition in odin. just tick f reset time and auto reboot ONLY unless the instructions asked u to do else.

No, I think you misunderstand.
A. I wouldn't use Odin, I'd use Heimdall
B. I INTEND to repartition my device as part of a project I'm working on.
You are working outside the known universe for S3 users, I've heard of no-one else attempting repartition.
EMMC chip in this device appears to be very fragile, best of luck with your experiment.

Try reading the hundreds of threads where people are left with a hard brick and odin can't even flash a pit, the title of insane bug for the emmc chip says it all. Also many posts by users of cache 'improving' software, again left with a hard brick after resizing a partition.
If you can change/restore the partition structure, without replacing the emmc chip, you'll be one up on everyone else.
After having my Z2 for 2 weeks on a trial period I've bitten the bullet and unlocked my bootloader to finally have root on my device :victory:
Now after that step, of course the data partition and with that the entire internal storage got wiped. This was known to me and as I thought not to have stored anything on it I didn't consider losing anything... but it seems there have been some ring-tones stored on either data or the internal storage and they got wiped together with the rest
I'm hoping anyone out there can help me restore these. They are supposed to be in /system/media/audio, /sdcard/(Ringtones||Alarms||Notifications) or inside /data/audio and should be there ONLY when/if you never have wiped the data partition or updated through flashtool/PCCompanion instead of OTA...
Who can help me gather them all back? I really love the original ringtone for the calender, which got deleted up on unlocking the bootloader :crying:

Hey guys, my sisters phone for some reason got bricked. There weren't any modifications made on it, after some work I was able to make Sony Update Service recognize it. The big question is: When resetting the phone with Sony Update Service, is the internal storage erased too or not? She has some important pictures which she really needs, so could someone suggest a way in which the internal storage stays the way it is?
I tried the hard reset button found under the next to the sim card already with no result. The phone responds with 3 buzz when the power button is pressed for 2-3 sec.

AFAIK there's no way to make a backup of the internal storage while the phone is off.
I believe that resetting the phone with SUS won't erase internal storage (only apps and related data).
I've never had the chance to try it though, but I say the above due to past experience with other Sony devices.
EDIT: I just read somewhere that repairing phone via PC Companion wipes all data including internal storage.
You can use flashtool to reflash a firmware to your device
Deselect wipe data and select, reset customizations
I think that should do it

Unfortunately in new xperia phone the internal storage is mounted at /data/media so it gets erased too when you wipe /data

Hi!
I have a problem in LG G2 mini of my brother!
He have make upgrade by wifi to Lollipop but he see that System Data
is too big 3,76Gb.
I have tryed to update with LG Flash Tool two times but System Data
increase to 4,11Gb.
How can I resolve that?
The phone is original, still under warranty and never root that.
Is a solution?
I have set twenty LG G2 Mini and this is the only one that have this
problem.
Thanks to everything.
On KitKat, it only shows user accessible space (a little less than 4GB).
On Lollipop, it shows the whole storage chip (8GB), including the ~4GB taken up by the system.
I am gonna be as clear as I can:
You cannot take that space back, as it is required for the system to work!

That won't change anything. (You need root anyway)
System apps are stored on the system partition ( /system ) which by itself is 2GB and you can't change its size without root. However, even if you had root, it is very dangerous and the stock Lollipop ROM leaves ~30MB free on it, so the system would brake (and you would end up with a soft-bricked phone).
The other 2GB are taken by other partitions, all of which are required and you can't reduce their size.
Sorry

Ok, thanks for the reply. But it's strange that in my smartphone there isn't this separation, while in 4 smartphone I noticed it but of different sizes. Why different sizes? Strange...can you tell me also that my curiosity ?
2 gigs for system folder, 700 mb for cache. Plus some folders between 200 and 500. Maybe some carrier chances using or not these folders. Would need to look further to find the reason.

Delete everything under /data/dalvik-cache and then reboot immediately!
If the system needs any of those files, it will recreate them on boot.
