Hey guys, my sisters phone for some reason got bricked. There weren't any modifications made on it, after some work I was able to make Sony Update Service recognize it. The big question is: When resetting the phone with Sony Update Service, is the internal storage erased too or not? She has some important pictures which she really needs, so could someone suggest a way in which the internal storage stays the way it is?
I tried the hard reset button found under the next to the sim card already with no result. The phone responds with 3 buzz when the power button is pressed for 2-3 sec.

AFAIK there's no way to make a backup of the internal storage while the phone is off.
I believe that resetting the phone with SUS won't erase internal storage (only apps and related data).
I've never had the chance to try it though, but I say the above due to past experience with other Sony devices.
EDIT: I just read somewhere that repairing phone via PC Companion wipes all data including internal storage.
You can use flashtool to reflash a firmware to your device
Deselect wipe data and select, reset customizations
I think that should do it

There is a guide for flashtool also, so if you find difficult with the guide on the page above. You can also have a look it.

Unfortunately in new xperia phone the internal storage is mounted at /data/media so it gets erased too when you wipe /data
Thanks anyway

Actually nothing happened, she had to go back the next day and I didn't have time to try fixing it. She will just take it back to the service provider and make them fix it.

Hi all, was trying to format another memory card that i have because it would not read in windows for some reason,so anyway i inserted into my phone and formatted emmc thinking it was this other card but turns out i wiped almost everything from my phone(backups, music, pics) everything!! is there no way of retrieving anything, thanks in advance!!
Recuva might be able to recover data that's in folders you can normally see when you hook the phone up to a PC (I.E not in system folders). A Google search also reveals Android specific data recovery apps tho I can't vouch for those.

I think hard reset means rebooting your phone by holding down the power button.. Meh anyway I understand what you meant.
Well just to brainstorm, HTC comes with a default integration with drop box. Meaning all your photo's gets uploaded automatically to dropbox unless you disable it. So, First off check dropbox first, you should atleast have some photos since nobody disables "dropbox" that immediate.
Next time, If you have important stuff on your phone, try to back them up on the pc, and try to use a cloud service like what i said "dropbox" or "google drive" or any other type. Or just upload to facebook
Best of luck and hope you get the photos back

Now that you "factory reset" you should have an empty SD Card, so if you are "interested" in rooting or think you might be , you should unlock the bootloader now before your phone becomes filled with apps again, since the bootloader unlocking will require you to "erase" the data AGAIN.
Just a tip although you might not want to root, unlocking is different from rooting though, so you are not really "rooted" as per say. Anyway best of luck, if you are interested in knowing the difference there is a link in my signature explaining that or you can just google or check the forums, or not Best of luck

no no I think it was a misunderstanding
HTC One X+ does not have SD Card
The purpose of the "recovery", was "Data Recovery" and bring deleted files back! not CWM recovery or other
i am looking for app for recovering my deleted photos since my last factory reset! i have stock rom on my phone now and i dont want to root it
because all "Data recovery" apps want root access

I understand just fine, you misunderstood what i said. What I said was, now that you sadly lost all your data, you might want to take this chance and root since the step of unlocking the "bootloader" itself will make you erase the data again. It was an offtopic out of content advice , just for the future.
As for your issue I already said all what I know, best of luck and maybe someone else knows

Hi!
A few days ago something happened to my dad's xperia active.
He said that the battery got empty and when he got home, he wanted me to check what's wrong with it since he said it didn't turn on. When I pushed the power button, the screen was all black, BUT the blacklight for the soft buttons started up. So I thought it must be either a dead screen or a dead battery but I wasn't sure, so I pulled the buttery and tried booting it up and it didn't, even the sony logo didn't appear and this time no backlight for the soft buttons either. Anyway, fastboot maybe works, not sure, semc flash mode works, but no adb...
Is there any way to recover data (SMS, contacts, and some pdf-s) from the phones internal memory? Actually, I'm sure there is, but how to recover the data?
Is it possible too boot a custom recovery with fastboot boot recovery.img on an "untouched" phone without root and without unlocked bootloader and do a full backup from there????
Any help is appreciated!
fastboot unlocking will erase your data to prevent data theft .so you cant use fastboot flash recovery.igmg
There are other ways which I can't clarify but they require submitting the device to an professional analyst and will probably cost more money that the device itself ..
You can just pull out the memory card which should have PDF's since /data,/system and /cache cant be user accessed

Haha, that's what I thought but my dad tried to convince me that they must be in the internal memory, like there was no other way which I found highly unlikely aswell.
Anyway, I think I will try to flash the phone to working state and nevermind the data loss.
Thanks!

No Problem ...Next time ,backup the contacts to Memory Card and use SMS backup and Restore to backup SMS
After having my Z2 for 2 weeks on a trial period I've bitten the bullet and unlocked my bootloader to finally have root on my device :victory:
Now after that step, of course the data partition and with that the entire internal storage got wiped. This was known to me and as I thought not to have stored anything on it I didn't consider losing anything... but it seems there have been some ring-tones stored on either data or the internal storage and they got wiped together with the rest
I'm hoping anyone out there can help me restore these. They are supposed to be in /system/media/audio, /sdcard/(Ringtones||Alarms||Notifications) or inside /data/audio and should be there ONLY when/if you never have wiped the data partition or updated through flashtool/PCCompanion instead of OTA...
Who can help me gather them all back? I really love the original ringtone for the calender, which got deleted up on unlocking the bootloader :crying:
This is it. From system/media/audio.

If you ask for more, tell me please.

Dont worry, copy all data to ext sd card and try flashing it with stock ROM, unrooting your device may leads to hard brick. Flashing will wipe all data so make sure you have backup.
Thanks

You either didn't root it properly or you have trojan apk (virus applications) anyway copy your data by connecting it to PC make sure USB debugging is ON, if you are still unable to copy data to PC, I recommend you to give a try for copy data from internal SD to ext-sd. If anyone of this method work for you please do a flashing or having trouble in flashing please go to service centre for repairing this. Still having problem please let me know

Sad to hear that, all you can do is send photos and other data via share it to other device and after finishing that, do a factory reset, if you still having the same problem try flashing it with stock ROM or else go to service centre and ask them to do a flash.
