Using IR? - T-Mobile HTC One (M7)

Hey,
I wonder if there's a possibility to use the build in IR Sender/Receiver? It'd be awesome to build an app with IR support

Sure there is. I use mine to control my home theater

Awesome, do you have an example or some docs?

Check out Smart Remote for HTC One! http://goo.gl/LYBQ3. Control everything but your a/c and girlfriend.

Looks nice, but I wanted to build an own app

Well if this person is a developer then you should be able to make your own app utilizing the IR Blaster. I'm guessing it will involve you needed the source for the IR, but if this developer is able to use the HTC IR, then maybe the source is either open source or a standard source for IR Blasters. Maybe you can contact them and ask how they accomplished it.

http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/opensense-sdk/partner-apis/htc-ir-api/
Probably won't be your answer but htc is offering an Api for devs and supposedly released sdk for it ..

I love this app... My local sports bar hates it though...

But the phone already has the app built in why pay 10 bucks for an app that the phone already has built in. I use mine everywhere. It's great whenever I have to stay at hotels because sense tv even tells me what's on.

My TV didn't work with the codes in the default app, nor was it able to "learn" from the remote for whatever reason....the SmartRemote of HTC app on the market for $5 worked perfectly.
No idea why, but that might be one reason some folks might choose not to use the built-in app.

Tricking TB to think Front Cam is Main Cam

To me this would be a killer mod for TB. Someone (expert) creating a script to that changes front camera to main camera. If you want to use the back camera, simply select secondary camera. I would think we could start using a lot of the apps out there right now with this mod.
A link one of you experts might find interesting on the subject,

What would really be nice is a way to link the front cam to a dummy bluetooth, an have it setup to where you press the button on your bluetooth an it takes a picture like a spycam kinda thing. would be awesome at work or just messing with people for fun LOL

Looking for an App to record voice calls

Hi all,
I am looking for an android app that allows recording of voice calls directly from the phone and not via speaker phone.
I have tried many apps on the android market and they did not work on my Amaze with ICS ROM or they only work via speaker phone.
I know that MIUI had such a feature built-in, but, i have not seen it in any ROM's.
does anyone know if a good Android App on ICS HTC Amaze..
Note, i am not interested in the legality of this at this point, simply looking for a working app on HTC Amaze with ICS that records phone calls right from the phone directly.
We don't have one yet. I was just messaging a buddy about that. He hasn't seen one either. I too would be interested in this.

If the chromecast device works you'll have a smart tv for $35 assuming you live in the US. I don't think it is available outside of the us at the moment. The device is pretty small, around the size of a large USB thumb drive judging from the pictures and plugs into hdmi.

Awesome I do love in the us though I'm currently out of the country but I'll be back in 1 month. I'll have to look up this chrome cast. So you just plug it in your TV and it uses the TV as a monitor and sort of makes it a smart TV? Well if I understood right that's sweet especially for only 35 dollars.

Chromecast does not support Miracast.
And given that it's only in the 2.4ghz range only, that's probably a good thing. In most of my use cases, you probably wouldn't want to use it without 5ghz.
It's designed a little differently though - instead of going from the internet, through the device, to your monitor/TV, Chromecast takes the content directly from the internet using your phone more like a remote. The quality of the stream should be much better.
But of course you lose the ability to mirror the screen of your device on your monitor/TV.
I prefer the better quality stream for most wireless streaming and will use my HDMI cable when I need a mirror as the performance was better with that anyway.

That's really unfortunate. IR on these phones is really a useful feature unlike gimmickry such as a fingerprint reader.
That's one thing I miss about the gs4. The remote app was much better. It combined all 3 remotes into one where I didn't have to switch tabs to control cable or tv power or volume on my A/V system. The channels controlled the box, volume av and power all 3

Lg already released SDK for remote app. I emailed the developer but he mauled that only few people interested in this app.
I also noticed that my s4 remote works better. I have to have my g2 pointed directly and at the right angle to get it to work properly. I was hoping it was an app issue and could just replace the app.

I tried to make a custom remote for my TV/HTPC, and teach it from my harmony. But this was not working good. Sometimes it didn't register button press, but biggest issue it refused to send same command twice. So impossible to use volume and navigation buttons.
So I tried to setup my PJ, facing the phone agains my gain 1.1 screen nothing worked, then I found out I had to point it directly at my PJ for it to work (all my other remotes work facing the screen, and all my equipment is behind me). At that point I gave up rather disapointed.
Is this a software issue ? Is the IR too weak ? IR uses so little power, it seems stupid to save battery on a weak IR.
I'd be willing to say it depends on the physical aperture size. The HTC One has great range and tolerance to off axis use, for example.
Look at the opening. (power switch) The S4 is much more directional, for example.
I've done the learning thing from another remote, and it's learning it correctly... but the button doesn't do anything. like power won't work even though it learned power. weird.

Hmm, that's weird. On the custom remote that I attached earlier, I taught it functions from 3 different remotes which included a Harmony and it works perfectly. Power (from TV), volume (from av receiver), channel (from dish network dvr), guide (from dish network dvr), etc.

eh..mine is for an RCA surround unit that literally no remote is able to control except for this ONE i found for my PS3 that does bluetooth. that remote works fine, but there;'s something wrong wtih it and it eats batteries in like a day, so i don't use it. i get up and control the entertainment system lol old school style...
but from that remote i had my G2 learn the basics..volume, power, etc...and it says "okay, learned, on to next button" but it just won't work when i use the G2.

[Bounty] always listening voice recognition for AOSP ROMs.

One big feature that this phone is missing that I wish it had in it is the always on voice recognition that the moto x has. Upon getting this phone I assumed that I would be forever without this feature. However, upon doing some research I discovered that the snapdragon 800 processor has a dedicated voice recognition core just like the moto x, the only difference being that nobody has taken advantage of it. So, since I'm not a developer by any means, I decided that I would turn to the amazing developers here at XDA to see what they could whip up.
Requirements:
-Must work on AOSP ROMs. (I use Houston's PA 4.0)
-Must actually use the voice recognition core as to not demolish battery life.
-Preferably in a flashable zip (although not required)
-must work on all variants of those who pitched into bounty.
I will kick off the bounty with $15 to whomever can get this working.
Running total: $45
Ghstudent: $15
