I'm on vacation and am trying to get my xt912 to work properly (on a brazilian gsm network), but am having trouble getting consistent data and voice. i'm using the latest stable cm 10.1 rom for the xt912, if i plan to utilize the gsm networks, should i be running the rom intended for the xt910? If not, how do i roll the sim toolkit into the rom for the xt912? there's an icon for it in the cm app tray, but loading it makes it disappear as if its not in the code.
I am having the same problem, only that I live outside the US and I need my phone to run constantly on GSM, so I need to know a GSM friendly ROM. If someone can show us one, then that would be great.
Only if you searched a little before posting.

I saw it somewhere that the verizon LTE droid razr actually supports dual network mode, in other words, GSM and CDMA.
I wonder if someone who has the verizon version can verify this. I am sure a lot of people are interested.
Also, I might switch to the verizon version from my galaxy nexus GSM version if it is real...
Thank you and happy new year !
No it is not supporting GSM

I think it has the radios but Verizon had them disabled (gsm that is)

Yup. It has them disabled.
The XT910 however, has the GSM radios. I believe Rogers has it.
Shame on Verizon. They always do something like cutting functions off.
There are engineering prototype floating around and there are pictures showing the dual mode.
Hope one day this thing got an unlocked radio.
Well technically it is enabled for LTE. LTE uses a version of GSM. Thats why you have a sim card from VZW

Yea, but he means able to work on gsm bands (850/900/1800/2100). These bands are hardwared into the droid razr, but like everyone else stated its locked by Verizon. And there is no way around to unlocking it to work. It's a shame, but perhaps in a few months we'll see a "world" phone version of the droid razr. But knowing Verizon, they'd charge extra for a phone with the same hardware, just a new name. Haha.
According to this the Razr has GSM 850/1900 support in its sim card slot. That means if you can unlock (via Verizon key or possibly a custom rom) you should be able to use a third party sim card.

You know, you could just grab the Rogers or Int'l versions, they work on at&t just fine
Any idea why my phone keeps jumping between 60% and 70% on the charger? Was using my N1 charger at first, and it stayed at 60%, finally jumped straight to 70% with the included Motorola charger.
There is definately GSM capability or at least someone wrote settings code for it. These are 2 screen shots from my CDMA Vzn phone.
The settings are greyed out however.

it's one of the reasons that moto has to keep the bootloader locked up. VZW would FREAK so loud their master in Hell could hear them if people started to flash their phones to work on att, or worse...
Both the Droid 2 Global and Droid 3 were locked down not to be used on the GSM networks here in the states and a couple of guys on xda got it working for us. On another note the HTC Rezound is also working on gsm thanks to some
Verizon has already said that the global GSM roaming capabilities will be enables at some point in the future for the Droid 4. They said having them currently blocked at this point was due to "network limitations." Since the internals of the Droid 4 are pretty much identical to the RAZR/RAZR MAXX, it's possible Verizon will enable the feature on those phones as well...or maybe that a developer can enable them once the Droid 4 gets it.
I use an app called phone info to get into the info menus quickly, select Phone Information. I have a GSM Razr and I can switch my radio to CDMA from GSM or Auto (CDMA/GSM) using a dropdown menu. Can you definitely not do this with the US Droid Razr?
Hopefully some developer is working on a workaround for the verizon ICS build to work on GSM ,cant they just add the radio from the CM9 aokp builds ?

I checked out the app. It does give you the choice to switch to GSM but Idk if it'll work and Idk how to tell if it works.

yeah that's the snag unless you are sim unlocked and can try a friends AT&T SIM Card?

I see so it might be possible if you are sim unlocked and have a different sim card.

I'm going to be traveling to the London soon and will want to put a local SIM in my Photon. I'm currently running Joker's CM9 and loving it, but I'm wondering if I'll have any problems using it on a GSM network abroad.
Does anyone have much experience with this? Will CM9 work? Can I use it for data as well as voice? Are there better options out there?
I think the best thing you can do is flash your photon to gsm while you are on the go and when you are back just flash it back to cdma but make sure you make a backup before you flash to gsm in case something goes wrong.
currently using mine in taiwan with twmobile prepaid sim. can use data as well, but it eats up the credits pretty quickly
I live in the US (on Sprint) and am going to Italy in a few weeks and would like to be able to use my phone over there. I'm running the latest Joker-CM9 (0.7) build.
Theoretically, I should be able to pick up an Italian SIM card over there and the phone should work... but I know there are some known GSM-issues with CM9 and even a GSM-fix available. Up until now, I haven't been paying all that much attention to issues with GSM as it hasn't affected me.
So my questions are:
What do I need to do to switch the phone from CDMA to GSM?
I assume I'll need to do the opposite to go back to CDMA upon returning?
Does anyone have any experience with using CM9 in Italy, specifically? If so, what carrier do you recommend and do you have any tips?
Is Google Voice the best way to go for managing international calling / rates / etc?
Anything else you can think of? Better ideas?
As always, I'll be doing nandroid backups before I try anything...
Thanks for the help!

I picked up a TIM sim card in Turin,a few weeks back. It worked like a champ ,I think I was running Peetr 2.3.5 though.I have tried also CM 7.2,jokers skinny,Looki, and Rocko overseas, with all of them switching networks fine.
don't use CM 9 refuse to lose my camcorder: )
But if you on blur /deblur rom ,the mobile networks setting has toggle options.
If your on AOSP just type
*#*#4636#*#* to change to gsm.
Hope this helps...

I've been working through these fine forums but can't find an answer to what is I admit a bit of an odd question and hope someone could shed some light on my problem?
A friend of mine who knows nothing about mobile phones or rooting has bought a Razr Xt912 from Ebay UK and is trying to use it with a UK mobile network. . I've no idea whether it was a UK device originally. He's also been 'messing' with it and may or may not have accepted a few OTA updates. There certainly seems to be some Verizon bloat on it that wouldn't be appropriate for a UK based phone. There is a SIM card slot so I'm assuming it works on both the CDMA and GSM systems. There's also an option for switching between 'global' 'CDMA' and 'GSM'. The phone is rooted and has SafeStrap 3.11 installed (by me).
The odd issue is that the phone has full voice and data when a Virgin Mobile (UK) SIM is installed but only has voice when an O2 (UK) SIM is swapped in. I could understand if the phone was locked to CDMA and neither UK system worked but the fact that it works fully on one and only provides voice on the other SIM is confusing me? It might be down to the network Virgin Mobile uses being the new UK EE 4G network but I'm not sure.
I'm trying to get the phone to work with the O2 GSM network and am not sure if I need to flash a custom GSM ROM, a CDMA ROM and then a GSM patch or simply contact O2 for an unlock code for GSM functionality.
I'm completely happy with rooting and flashing ROM's to phones on Samsung hardware but have to admit to being a bit uncertain about the pitfalls etc with Motorola.
The guides and install instructions for ROM on the forum are clear enough but I'm not sure if just flashing a GSM compatible ROM to this phone will make O2 data burst into life or fail completely. I've tried searches but the problem is so specific I'm struggling to find a post that directly addresses the problem. A pointer to such a thread or some advice would be most appreciated. Thanks.
I can help you out with 1 of your questions.
You say you have the xt912 so you can only flash cdma (xt912) roms, do not attempt to flash gsm (xt910) roms!
The xt912 will work on a gsm network outside of the usa only. Just to be clear here that does not mean you can flash gsm roms
Hope that helps somewhat

xt912 certain..the phone has GSM band capability and works on gsm carriers outside the USA with ICS update
Um Most probably there are no chance to use xt910 aka droid razr on other networks because it locked and works only in USA on Verizon network .
Look out into the development for cdma roms , try that if it dosnt work then flash patch to convert cdma roms into gsm
I hope that would work
Edit : i believe the panel has been chanced or model name might have chanced from build.prop
Thx
Hit the thx button if i helped ya in anyways
Thx for asking it in question answer and help .:thumbup:

there are confirmed users of the XT912 not XT910 again the XT912 outside the USA on gsm networks... a simple look into this thread will reveal a number of testimonials
to all you nonbelievers out here, and to back up the person that said you can use gsm oh and u have to have the latest update cause gsm is unlocked !!!!
here is the steps
1/ Go to menu>>system settings>>more>>Mobile networks
a/ make sure Data Enabled is checked
b/ change global data roaming access>> to Connect to data services while roaming
c/change network mode from Global to GMS/UMTS (this will now allow you to enter the "Access Point Names" menu")
Now you should go on the internet (not via your phone-use another device or do it before hand in WIFI) and look up the APN settings (Access Point Names settings) for the country and carrier that you are using
d/ go to menu>>system settings>>more>>Mobile Networks>>Access Point Names
hit menu>>create new APN
enter the setting that you found on the internet then back out
switch to airplane mode to turn off your telephone service.
Wait a minute
taken from gsmarena xt912 user openions thread
will look into the gsm patch tho

I'm another guy from Argentina in the same situation. I'm facing the problem that the GSM signal is weak. Did somebody find a walkthrough to this?. Thanks.

I have the Verizon Razr Maxx XT912. I bought it from a girl sealed in box who thought it cannot work in Canada. I removed the verizon SIM, upgraded to ICS then tested it and it works. I then upgraded to JB and it also works. However, I get a weak signal, only 1 bar most of the time, but it never drops calls. I even flashed Spyder and it shows no signal at all but still can make calls and receive calls!!
So yes, it works very well in Canada. I only wish I can fix the signal bar issue on spyder Liquid Smooth and CM10.1. I tried umts_spyder, I get a full signal bars, but when I open the dial pad and click on a number it freezes for about 6 seconds before it allows me to continue. The dial pad is not stable.
Hi guys... I'm from Argentina and I have a XT912 on a GSM carrier (Movistar).
I live in the Córdoba province and everything works perfectly (calls, 3G, wifi, etc.) on the stock rom.
I recently installed CM10.1 for spyder and user a GSM fix to make it work, with the fix I can get 3G and a good level of signal (similar to stock rom). The fix is giving me some troubles cause I can make calls but I can't receive since I receive a "the process com.android.phone has stopped" message. I'm looking on how to try to resolve this.
Anyway I can confirm for certain you can use a XT912 outside US on a GSM carrier.
See you around...
