[Q] Help unrooting phone - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a phone on eBay to use on the Ting (Sprint) network. It is a used Samsung Galaxy S3 running Android 4.0.4 which I thought was strange as I know the S3 has been updated past this. So I started looking around and I found a program called SuperUser which has root options, then I found a file called TeamEpic-Root-from-Recovery-v5(1).zip in the root of the phone. There is a firmware update available but when I try to apply it a screen comes up which says installation aborted (I can get more info if needed on this).
I have been using Android phones for years and never been interested in rooting. I'm worried that I will not be able to activate this phone on July 8 when I can get out of my Verizon contract. And I'm concerned that I won't be able to update it past 4.0.4.
Could anyone advise how I can get this back to stock? Thanks in advance.

It says "Galaxy S III Q&A Help & Troubleshooting" at the top of the page where this post appears. So are you sure I'm in the wrong place? If I am then I apologise and I'll move it.
-- sorry, now I see where I went wrong. I'll post in the right place.

No worries. I wouldn't want to see anyone get the wrong advice. What's right for this model could brick yours.

[Q] Is there a way to know i9100 hw version without turning on the phone?

I'm a noob and if I violated some rule please let me know so I won't make the same mistake again.
I'm trying to buy a Galaxy S2 I9100 with a hardware version of 1.4 or lower for my wife.
I want to get the phone under "free extended warranty" in my plan on Orange(partner) Israel and they told me they don't insure REV 1.5 or any of the I9100G or T models.
I know I can find out the version by dialing *#2222# and in the best cases, sellers with non-sealed boxes have allowed me to put a battery in for a sec and check out the version but alas they were all 1.5. However there were sellers that allowed me just to look at the box and try to fish some info.Perhaps I have found what I was looking for and I simply don't know.
So my question is: Is there any way to know whether a speciffic SGS2 has a HW 1.4REV without opening the box?
maybe the info is listed in one of those websites that give info about a certain IMEI number?
edit: I'm sorry, I mixed up this forum with the GALAXY S2 Q&A and I don't know how to delete this thread

I came from iphone and so far i have managed to root my phone and i belive the clockwork thing i need to flash the op is on.
Any guides or suggestions would be great. Im fine with using a pc but trying to learn all this new android stuff is confusing me.

First post your firmware details; Goto Settings - About phone, and post everything you see
If you're talking about the Galaxy S, you're in the wrong forum, mate. Irrespective, there isnt any 'good' or 'bad' ROM, try some of the more popular ones from the Android development section.
As for video walkthroughs, there are a fair few videos on youtube. I'd post links but I'm not sure if thats against the forum rules. PM me if you want em. Although, the guides provided here on xda itself are good enough. You've got root and CWM, thats probably the biggest hurdle overcome right there
Read up about
Cwm
Odin
4.0.4 brickbug
then rooting and flashing kernels/roms
Ill post my details when i get
Because i have come from a iphone im struggling with it,i did look on youtube and could only find videos from the states at&t and sprit and didnt know if it would be the same for me

[Q] can I root without a pc?

I have a Verizon Samsung GS4,
Model: sch-1200
Broadband Version:1200VRBME1
Build #: JZO54K.
Also, it may be a developer model as it has 'Developer Options' in the Settings menu.
My question is: can I root this phone without a pc? If so how?
Thank you ever so kindly.
FYI, for some reason every time I attempt to search my browser goes haywire. I've pored over as many posts
as I can with no luck. Need to push on. If this has already been answered, please send me the post. Again
thanks for your time.
Ok. I see some other threads, but they're not for the Verizon GS4.
Are you sure you have a galaxy s4 the model number and firmware version you listed are for a galaxy stellar. If it is a stellar you have you would be better off posting in the corresponding forum, if there is one. Also its probably not a developer model as most, if not all android phones have the option to enable developer settings.

Yes. It is a Stellar. I thought GS4 and Stellar were the same thing. Thanks for the clarification. And to that, I am in the wrong forum. Is there one for me? I will repost there if so. Thank you.
I dont think there is a sub forum for that device here. I think there is one at rootzwiki tho.

Hey thanks for the link. Unfortunately, it didn't answer my question. Have any ideas?
I checked a few guides and all of them needed a pc to do it. More often then not youll need one. Ive only had one device I didnt need a pc for and it was an acer tablet.

Dude who posted the question says he's got Verizon on a stellar. Whether it's a 1200 I don' t know, but it looks like no pc is necessary. Thanks much!
Look this thing won't let me put the darn links in. Can I send them in a private reply?

terribly sorry. i of course am fine with it being moved but i need to get my camera back before i go overseas in 24-36 hours. if you happen to find a link that isn't capped at dial up speeds i will be forever in your debt.
Why would I have a link, I don't even have that phone?
If all roms are the same then it is probably your hardware that is faulty.

the camera worked pre-flash. my backup failed without an error message :crying:
do you think if i asked nicely/offered 50 bucks a technical support employee at the Samsung store\an Optus Kiosk would be nice enough to re-factory-ize my phone?
