Sound quality is a bit of a subjective thing (unless you're an audiophile). Personally, I think the beats eq sucks and introduces a lot of background noise and generally sounds like crap. The amp in the DNA can drive some larger headphones, but I wouldn't say it's stellar. I'm not sure about the DNA/One comparison, but I assume they're similar.

I have both the DNA running newts sense 5 with zarboz kernel clearly is the best sound combo but in general they have the same 2.5w amp

beats audio

Hi,
i wonder why so many people say, that beats by dre is the best music experience they have. On my touchpad it makes quite no difference, when the beats funtion is on or off. I can not recognize large differences, even with original beats headphones (from HTC Sensation XE). There is neither special bass nor treble, so that I could say the quality is extraorginary. For me there is a huge difference to the SRS WOW HD setting of my Desire HD (which sounds really really good with my Sennheiser In-Ears). What du you think about this "feature"?
Meh.. have beats on my current ROM. It's a nice feature. But realistically, player pro with dsp gives u more liberty and IMHO sounds as good or better than beats
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
Yeah, I didn't notice any difference when toggeling the beats audio on and off either. But The TouchPad is the best sounding tablet I've ever heard.
Of course it doesn't compare to real speakers and isn't anything really special, but better than the other tablets out there.
It seems like a DSP setting that brings a little more stereo separation with slightly stronger bass frequencies. There is certainly a difference, but not as much to miss its absence. It's more of a marketing strategy than anything else, and I am sure it affects battery life to a little extent.

Just to be Clear about Beats Audio

Beats only works in the HTC music player and HTC video player. Ive read reviews, even watched review videos from real reviewers that discuss the audio coming from the speaker as sounding great because of Beats.
read here for explanation:
http://www.gottabemobile.com/2011/11/15/beats-audio-stock-music-video-apps/
I just want this to be clear for people who may be trying out the phone and expecting to hear amazing sound and being disappointed in Beats and the Phone.
Hope this helps
Once/if the phone is rooted would there be a way to manually turn it on regardless? There was a dev that included beats into an incredible S ROM and it seemed to work whenever you wanted it too, even regardless of headphone brand; i think.
Fyi it doesn't matter what brand headphones are...beats sstill works...

Glad they work with any headphones. I love the white ones that came with my iPod. Just kidding. I have a couple pairs of Bose that I really like so I think I'll sell the beats ones.
I like my SkullCandy headphones better than the Beats! Glad it will work, however, I use Google Music. Not trying to bog my phone down with unneeded used space! Thanks for the clarification though!
Personally I wish HTC would offer s beats free version of the Rezound for 100 bucks less.

Yeah those headphones are going on eBay. I would be happy with $50 for them since I consider them a bonus since the Razr is also $299
I wish I could get the beats to work with google music or with my Motorola SD-10HD bluetooth headphones.
i always used cheap jbuds from amazon for 10 bucsk..loved them, and the funny thing is i'm a total audiophile/musician, but when it comes to earbuds, i don't spend money on them because i'd rather use actual headphones
so getthing these beats for free with it was a nice little changeup, i actually REALLY like how they sound with beats audio turned on.
I just looked on eBay an I founds these ear buds going for over 100$ in some auctions. That's crazy. No wonder full retail is so much for this phone

I know I am definitely putting mine up.
Beats as a sound enhancer is interesting. It boosts bass frequencies, seemingly cranks up the overall gain of the signal (Heavy limiting... a little too much IMO), and puts a little extra emphasis on the top end (highs).
The Beats earbuds seems to color the sound in a similar fashion (save the signal boost, of course...). This is actually a problem because the effect is doubled, effectively over-coloring the sound. The result is unnatural and fatiguing to the ear. The easy test is to try it without beats enabled while using the beats earbuds. Sounds pretty decent, but these aren't exactly top-shelf buds.
The other option is to use Beats Audio with really nice earbuds. I'll bet that will sound nice. I've got some Phonak Audeo earbuds that I use for in-ear stage monitoring with my 80s band. Maybe I'll bust them out and do a shootout with the beats buds. Having heard both sets of buds with music, I have no doubt the Phonaks will sound better. But I'm curious about how they'll respond to the Beats Audio effect.
Hey has anybody else noticed audio noise on the line when music is NOT playing? I get electrical noise when it's hooked up to my truck's audio system, with the audible frequency of the noise changing as the engine's RPMs do. Grounding issue? It never did that with my Incredible.
On my old Incredible, I had NilsP's Buisness Gingersense 3.5 ROM on it, and it had Beats Audio capability as well. With Beats enabled on the Incredible, the bass boost and crisp clean treble sounds were quite nice, but I don't think the Incredible had the hardware to do all the signal boosting like we get with the Rezound. The sound of Beats enabled on my Incredbile would've satisfied an audiophile. It was fantastic. Jury is still out for me re: beats on the Rezound. So far, the Rezound's Beats audio feels just a bit too in-your-face.
Think I'm gonna throw mine on too. Never use ear buds. Just an fm transmitter in my car.

well if you bought the phone solely because of 'beats' then lol ...
but yeah, just using an EQ and knowing how to properly adjust it is really all you need.
beats will not work through bluetooth as well, even using HTC Media player on the phone...

sadly, blue tooth isn't really intended to be used for music.. at least not current versions of bluetooth up to 3.0(which is what the rezound uses). apparently though, bluetooth 4.0 will be better structured for music. but then again, that does you no good if you have a rezound.
Is that why there's a 1-2 second delay in the music when i change tracks? lol
I've had the OG droid, thunderbolt, and now the rezound... they all have that 1-2 second delay in sound from the device to sound in my car. I was beginning to think it's my car's bluetooth that is the issue.

It's supposed to be in your face. Think about Dr. Dre and the Genre he has dominated. Beats is what it is meant to be. I remember wearing a head band around the outside of my headphones to get the speakers closer to my ears and seal out ambient noise. Beats make the 808 kick like the booming systems in the truncks of the Jeeps of my youth. It's not audiophile but it is what it is and the people like it, and you can turn it off if you don't like it.
2cents

Sound quality compared with other devices.

How does everyone feel about the sound quality? BEATS rolleyes sounds ok, a bit "overblown."
The real issue, is that compared to my iPhone 4s; the rezound doesn't sound as good. It sounds better than my GS2, but I honestly feel like the 4s has better sound. Anyone else have any input?
I'm using Shure SE215s right now, they sound much better than the beats headphones or the Apple In-ear ones I have.
I think it may depend on the type of Music you listen to man. I listen to mostly rock/hard rock and both the Beats and SkullCandy buds I have sound awesome on the phone! If you install another EQ, I found using the HTC Music app it will screw with Beats. You can only use the alternate EQ outside of HTC Music, like in Google Music, etc. My phone sounded like absolute **** on HTC Music with both Beats and the other EQ on at the same time. Since most other EQ's run in the background, I didn't realize what was going on and almost got pissed off.
I listen to all sorts of stuff. I was lying in bed last night with three sets of headphones, and iPhone 4s, and my rezound. Comparing all sorts of stuff. The same parts of the same track, beats on/off, etc.
No extra equalizer on either.
I can only compare it to my iPod from 2005 and first gen zune but I think it sounds much better, honestly. I listen to rock only, though. I think the ear buds are pretty nice. I never really use earbuds because I use over the head cans for recording etc, but I think these sound pretty good on here!

Thats kind of my point, I wouldn't say the rezound sounds "bad" by any means. It sounds quite good actually! It sounds better than my GS2.
I just think maybe the iPhone sounds better. I will do more "testing"
Why not just go get an I-Phone 4s ???????

When you're stating your thoughts, you should state at the minimum:
App you were using to play music
Beats on or off or other EQ etc...
What you were listening on
I want to know how it sounds when connected to a car or home theater system. My thunderbolt sounds just fine with headphones but connect it to a car or HT system and there is quite a bit of hiss included with the audio. This has persisted over multiple roms, kernels, and apps. I imagine the hiss is still there with headphones as well but the volume is less when using headphones. When connected to an external amplifier, the volume is maxed just to get a reasonable signal to the other device.

I stated all that? I tried apple in ear, beats that came with the rezound, and my shure SE215s.
I tried beats On and Off, that was part of my first post.
Just using the standard HTC music app and the standard iphone music app.
I use my rezound to listen to audiobooks on my long commute hooked up to the car, i'm actually not into car audio at all, so I wont' be any help there. I don't notice any kind of hiss with the rezound, I definitely had it with the garbage Bionic. I usually keep the rezound a notch below max and compensate with the car volume.
My Rezound has weak audio threw the speaker... not sure if anyone else is experiencing this. Choppy, distorted and low, but it might be because of the type of music. Most of my music has a lot of bass.
The reason other EQs sound bad w/ BA enabled is because BA when on is a custom EQ setting. In other words you shouldn't mix 2 EQ settings together, BA(beats audio) is simply a EQ profile made by HTC or Beats.
what ace said. if someones using Eq with beats, then sigh lol...
but i don't have an iphone4s to try out, so i don't have a comparison..all i've got is a 6 year old ipod that isn't even a touch lol

'call quality' is comparable to the Incredible 2(and definitely better then the Thunderbolt), especially when using Skype.
'sound quality', not really an improvement per se, just they add in a custom 'Beats' EQ to the stock player to try and awe people.
all beats is is a custom EQ setting with more emphasis on lows + you can't even adjust the EQ to your liking. the headphones are ok for being throw ins, but the Bose headphones for around the same price have a bit better clarity and the bass response is a bit better to(just that the dres hit a tad harder).
I'm not trying to put down the phone(heck I bought one) or anything... it does have a really nice screen and performs slightly better then an overclocked Thunderbolt(probably due to Google doing a poor job with the dual-core architecture).... but if you bought/want this phone just because of the whole "Beats By Dre" bit, then you've been had sucka!
p.s. btw, the one thing Apple has done with pure excellence is iphone/ipod EQ. probably the best out there period.
i believe i read somewhere the beats eq is an active eq that constantly adjusts to compensate for frequency loss etc. if so, that's a nice feature.
I don't care who invented beats anyways, I love Monster's products, and this is one of them, lol. People are under the perception this is a Dr. Dre owned and operated business, wrong. It's just the branding, and like the above said, to awe people.

The external speaker on my Incredible sounded louder than the one on my Rezound, although through the beats headphones music sounds great. At times it's a little too bass heavy for me because I listen to a lot of Hard Rock/Heavy Metal and the bass drum and detuned bass guitar over power the guitars and vocals.

I had a thunderbolt before this and I hook my phone up through AUX input in my truck EVERY time I drive it. The quality of sound that comes from the rezound is light years ahead of my thunderbolt. Like its a night and day difference, even in pandora the sound quality is WAYYYYYYYYYYY better. I never had the hiss you speak of but I the sound was just super low compared to this phone. Yesterday we had my phone and an iphone4 hooked up through the AUX port in 2 different cars and it didn't matter what we played it sounded better on mine. I will say that the other two guys with me preferred the Power amp app over the stock music player with beats.

[Q] feedback amplifier

can anyone describe the sound from the loud speaker? heard there is a feedback amplifier in the unit. is it any better than the one x? is there a huge difference?
I was decidedly unimpressed with the One X's sound. It was the first device I'd ever had with Beats Audio, so maybe my expectations were unrealistic. That said, the One X+ sounds quite a bit better to me.
im referring to the loud speaker at the back not the sound from earphones
That's what I was talking about too... I realize (now) that Beats Audio doesn't affect the back speaker, but when I first bought the OneX I saw the Beats logo and thought "oh man, this thing is going to sound great!" which didn't turn out to be the case.
is it noticeably louder than the original one x?
I think so, but I never compared side by side. I only had my OneX for about 7 weeks before I returned it and got the X+.

I had both for a week before I sold my One X and I can confirm that the loudspeaker sounds much better on the One X+ than the One X's. Compared to my girlfriend's Galaxy S3 it is not as loud but very close. I was impressed by the upgraded loudspeaker but like the One X if the phone is on its back the loudspeaker can become easily blocked which lessens the sound coming from it.
So to sum it up, louder than One X but not as loud as Galaxy S3.
Have you guys ever put your phone in a small water glass? Really does make it way louder!
Warning: Ensure the glass is dry!!!!!!

Has anyone had an iPhone 5 ?(Speaker compared to DNA)

I would just want to know how the DNA speaker compares to the iphone 5. I think the 5 has an amazing loud speaker which delivers great full sound and some bass, unlike some tinny HTC ones.
I just want to get a phone that has a good speaker, I don't like the boring iOS. So doed the speaker on the DNA have fuller sound is it louder?

i have to disagree. even with the built in amp, IMO, the ip5 blows this thing out the water.
speaker volume is much louder on the ip5, music output thru headphones is much louder and crisper on the ip5, and bluetooth volume and quality for music is much better with the ip5.
I still chose to get rid of it because I was bored with it, but I tested both side by side for a while before making my final decision. The ip5 is a superior audio device.
to be honest, the speaker in the DNA is amazing. it sounds 50x better than the rezound did, and it's finally got some more bass and low end like the galaxy nexus did.

Personally, I think the DNA has a better speaker after listening to both play the same song side by side. The iphone's speaker just doesn't have the depth of sound that the DNA's does. But whatever, I guess it depends on your personal preference. I really only use the phone speaker for the phone, and earbuds for music, so I'm not too picky.
The only phone that's safe to say has a better speaker than i5 is the Lumia 920, the sound is full and a lot louder.
But Windows phone is really boring.

have you listened to the dna via bluetooth in a car stereo? Or with bluetooth headphones?
Have you plugged up headphones to both? Im not iphone fanboy, I just know Ive had a iPhone 4s and 5, and AUDIO wise, they are superior to the DNA. i've tried bluetooth headphones, but the ones i suck are terrible..those LG earbud ones that a bunch of us got for free that time verizon messed up their site lol..they're awful quality in general, and i don't have any good bluetooth headphones to test with it
Alright I've done some testing of my own and this is what my opinion on the matter is being the audiophile that I am.
Speaker quality goes to the DNA for a few reasons. The iPhone5 has a very crisp speaker but that is quickly lost the louder it gets, this is not the same on the DNA as it's clear throughout the volume level. I feel as though the depth of sound is also better on the DNA (ex: a tom hit sounds like a tom hit on the DNA. Sounds more produced and false on the iPhone5).
Clear winner for Bluetooth headphones goes to the iPhone5 as volume tends to be quieter when using the DNA. Clarity is identical. (Tested using CD-BT603)
Now for the wired headset. Using Bose OE2, bass and treble is a big win for DNA as the sound produced is very big and very clear. Not that the iPhone5 isn't, it's just not as great as the DNA. Middles seemed to be just about the same and couldn't pick a winner.
All and all both of these phones create a great sound, but the winner in my opinion is the DNA. This was also tested with beats off as I have never been a big fan of the sound it produces outside of rap junk and maybe country.

My point is proven again...but honestly the OP needs to do his own research because on this website you will find nothing but people who disagree and always want to prove other people wrong..I personally believe that the DNA is the winner but clearly we have people that think that the IP5 is the best.
So now that you have our opinions...I would do my own research and pick what you like best.
Objectively the iPhone has a higher quality sound, at least through the headphones:

OK so I just went to the Verizon store with my friend and we compared songs on the speaker of her i5 and the DNA and I have to say the DNA produces some decent lows and mids, it seems to have more bass thanks to the beats amp.
But still iPhone 5 seems just a little louder, there might be an app for the DNA to boost the volume without distortion hopefully
