Has anyone had an iPhone 5 ?(Speaker compared to DNA) - HTC Droid DNA

I would just want to know how the DNA speaker compares to the iphone 5. I think the 5 has an amazing loud speaker which delivers great full sound and some bass, unlike some tinny HTC ones.
I just want to get a phone that has a good speaker, I don't like the boring iOS. So doed the speaker on the DNA have fuller sound is it louder?

The DNA has a good speaker capable of being quite loud. However, many pre installed notifications and ring tones are rather quiet on my opinion.

i have to disagree. even with the built in amp, IMO, the ip5 blows this thing out the water.
speaker volume is much louder on the ip5, music output thru headphones is much louder and crisper on the ip5, and bluetooth volume and quality for music is much better with the ip5.
I still chose to get rid of it because I was bored with it, but I tested both side by side for a while before making my final decision. The ip5 is a superior audio device.

to be honest, the speaker in the DNA is amazing. it sounds 50x better than the rezound did, and it's finally got some more bass and low end like the galaxy nexus did.

So which one is louder?

The only audio gripe I have with my DNA is that the sound gets muffled easily since the speaker is on the back. Other than that it sounds great!
Sent from my HTC Droid DNA

I have both and the iPhone 5 has a better speaker. Not much louder but just enough to be noticeable.
Sent from my Droid DNA

Personally, I think the DNA has a better speaker after listening to both play the same song side by side. The iphone's speaker just doesn't have the depth of sound that the DNA's does. But whatever, I guess it depends on your personal preference. I really only use the phone speaker for the phone, and earbuds for music, so I'm not too picky.

The only phone that's safe to say has a better speaker than i5 is the Lumia 920, the sound is full and a lot louder.
But Windows phone is really boring.

have you listened to the dna via bluetooth in a car stereo? Or with bluetooth headphones?
Have you plugged up headphones to both? Im not iphone fanboy, I just know Ive had a iPhone 4s and 5, and AUDIO wise, they are superior to the DNA. Im not saying the DNA is bad, it is better than any other HTC device ive had, but even with beats audio, in MY OPINION apple devices hold a clear advantage. I even went and purchased a second hand ipod nano just to make up for the difference because I want apple audio quality but dont want to give up my dna.

i've tried bluetooth headphones, but the ones i suck are terrible..those LG earbud ones that a bunch of us got for free that time verizon messed up their site lol..they're awful quality in general, and i don't have any good bluetooth headphones to test with it

Alright I've done some testing of my own and this is what my opinion on the matter is being the audiophile that I am.
Speaker quality goes to the DNA for a few reasons. The iPhone5 has a very crisp speaker but that is quickly lost the louder it gets, this is not the same on the DNA as it's clear throughout the volume level. I feel as though the depth of sound is also better on the DNA (ex: a tom hit sounds like a tom hit on the DNA. Sounds more produced and false on the iPhone5).
Clear winner for Bluetooth headphones goes to the iPhone5 as volume tends to be quieter when using the DNA. Clarity is identical. (Tested using CD-BT603)
Now for the wired headset. Using Bose OE2, bass and treble is a big win for DNA as the sound produced is very big and very clear. Not that the iPhone5 isn't, it's just not as great as the DNA. Middles seemed to be just about the same and couldn't pick a winner.
All and all both of these phones create a great sound, but the winner in my opinion is the DNA. This was also tested with beats off as I have never been a big fan of the sound it produces outside of rap junk and maybe country.

My point is proven again...but honestly the OP needs to do his own research because on this website you will find nothing but people who disagree and always want to prove other people wrong..I personally believe that the DNA is the winner but clearly we have people that think that the IP5 is the best.
So now that you have our opinions...I would do my own research and pick what you like best.

Objectively the iPhone has a higher quality sound, at least through the headphones:
Stats that include iPhone: http://m.gsmarena.com/gsmarena_lab_tests-review-751p4.php

OK so I just went to the Verizon store with my friend and we compared songs on the speaker of her i5 and the DNA and I have to say the DNA produces some decent lows and mids, it seems to have more bass thanks to the beats amp.
But still iPhone 5 seems just a little louder, there might be an app for the DNA to boost the volume without distortion hopefully

I can't say much about the sound while using the headphones since I've only done it a few times. It sounded loud enough to me. But I use this as my music player in my car all of the time. I have a fairly decent sound system in my car and can't turn this up all the way because it is so strong. I usually have it a couple of clicks below max, and I still get amazing sound out of it.

I can't speak to the phone's performance for car audio but the head phone experience makes this a phone a top contender, in my opinion.
I switched from the EVO 3D, and the difference is laughable when using head phones. People have said the Beats Audio experience is just bass heavy but I've noticed some good clarity in the highs as well.
Only draw back is you'll have to load your audio on the SIM card instead of using streaming services (Spotify, etc.). I don't think Beats currently kicks in with those.
It is much louder than my 3D was.

Take this as a caveat as I do not own the phone but I've been playing with phones for the last 2 months to figure out which one to buy - yea I over do it
-
The clarity on the razr is a wee bit better; the rezound is a lot louder. The photon is extermely good - maybe better than the razr (hard to tell since i could not compare them side by side) but the photon was better than the epic touch in terms of clarity.
-
The rezound is loud and 'clear' enough for me. With ear buds (I used kilips s2 to test) the rezound was extermely good; as good or better than the razr.
-
The evo-3d was a dog in many ways.
-
If I were you I would do what I did; go by verizon - plug in your earphones and test
-
The photon is a really nice phone (i really wanted an oled display; but I think - about 90% sure) I will go with the rezound over the epic touch, razr or gnexus. Just a trade off of pros/cons across the various phones. The big negative of the rezound for me is the dispaly visiblity outside. It is a lot better than the evo-3d but kind fo sucks comapre to the other phones i listed above.

If you want it to sound really good, make sure you get a good auxiliary cable for it. The best I've found (and I've tested way too many) is Auvio Stereo Audio Cable. A bunch of places have it, like Radio Shack or Best Buy. They're extremely tough (they have a braided wrap around the cord), sound amazing, and have a gold coating to ensure the sound is clear with no interference. They also seem to work with the stock music player using the Beats enhancer. Plus if you download the DSP apk and install it on your phone, you'll have even more ways to push more sound out of this.

The sound with a set of Bose in ear head phones is phenominal.
It's not exactly at Galaxy S with Voodoo Sound levels, but it's definitely above average. Just make sure you've turned the sound enhancements off.

Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
I have never heard an ATRIX, but I found that RAZR's sound is pretty good (Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10). As said above, it is nothing like Galaxy S's Wolfson with voodoo sound, but it is AWESOME in comparison to Galaxy SII ****ty Yamaha DAC.
I sold my Galaxy SII specifically due to it's ****ty DAC, build quality and useless GPS. Razr is pretty slow and has a ridiculous screen panel (mine come with 1 dead pixel), but at least it's build quality is a thousand times better than any Samsung's phone. Oh, point to RAZR's GPS, it is insanely fast and powerful.
Well, I hope we get soon a nice ROM that sends all motorola **** to hell and unlocks the RAZR's true power.
Good luck with your RAZR.

Compared to the Galaxy S II, yes, it is noticeably slower.
Although I didn't find the S II's GPS useless, the RAZR is better in that regard, and I'd say it's the GLONASS support that does it.
Sent from my XT910 using xda premium
I didn't even noticed that razr has glonass... And I must say: this russian thing rocks. GSII gps may not be useless, but it is still worse than a lot of other cellphones.
In terms of speed, razr's boot is the thing that is really annoying and makes me sad when I remember GSII extremely fast boot. At least, when everything is loaded up there's no pain in razr usability.
I think that razr's slowness is a bit due to moto**** bloatware, but specially due to worse access speed between RAM and OMAP, when in comparison to GSII RAM and Exynos. I would suggest slower flash memory, but it seems that razr's flash can be even faster in some cases. I haven't any conclusive data to this hypothesis, but based on what I know, seems to be razr's slowness reason.
Well, razr is pretty new in market yet, so there is still hope for us in getting a better software, giving us a faster phone.
Think you've hit the proverbial nail there. Moto make lovely hardware, but the software on the RAZR is rather...odd.
Although if what I've heard is true, the RAZR was rushed to get product on shelves for Christmas, and was intended to ship with ICS - both the hurried gingerbread port from the Bionic/Droid 3 flavour of Blur and the decision to release a 'GSM variant' when both the XT910 & XT912 (appear to) have exactly the same hardware with locked down radios were apparently last minute changes. Or so rumour would have it.
On the Samsung front, the Note has GLONASS support and benefits enormously from it, so that should be the end of their positioning woes going forward.

I am wanting to know how it sounds through a pair of quality earphones with a good music player, preferably play Flac's.
The Atrix is very good but I wanted a larger screen. The razr ticks most boxes but I didn't want to take step backwards in the quality of music reproduction.
Can you shed some light?
just want to share with what I noticed today.was at a local shopping center, saw a stall selling mobile accessories, they have a casing for razr, which they claim improves sound from the tear speaker.I tried it on, honestly utter improves sound quality.
What it does is that it has some tunnels running around on the inside of the casing, enabling the sound waves to propagate to appropriate exit points, resulting in surrounds like sound.. It actually works.. But the price tag its ridiculously high.. So I did not buy it.. anyone else saw this housing? Some weird China brand.. Can't seem to find or on internet.

I have Razr, Atrix and Defy and I find they all have very close and decent sound(through jack), unless you use dollar store head phones, you might well be plugging into your butt. Speaker phone and ear piece, another story.
When I first listened to the razr with my Grado SR80i headphones, I was rather disapointed. After that, I found out the phone had some ****ty equalizer turned on for headphones. Once I turned that off, it sounded fine.

Cool, but which one has the edge, Atrix or Razr? Which do you prefer to use to listen to on a more regular basis?
Ta
Okay, i cant give the edge to either. Both are about the same volume maxed out and neither has more lows or highs than the other. I just blast my ears for 10 mins doing various hot swaps, and prolonged listening, to one intense orchestral song with some serious tones. This was a side by side, with same headphones, and eq options off using stock motoplayer with both set to volume one notch from full. I am not a bat or dog, but perhaps they could hear the diff.

[Q] How good are the speakers?

Everyone knows the One has great sound. Since I don't know anyone who currently owns the One and don't think I can get a real feel in-store, can current owners give me a comparative opinion?
My frames of reference are the Galaxy Note 10.1 stereo speakers and the Nokia N8.
Thanks!
I had the nexus 10, which I think was supposed to have the same speakers as the galaxy note series.
The One's speakers are much fuller in terms of range and soundstage. Highs are higher and lows are deeper.
The only positive aspect of the N10/Note's speakers were that they were front spacing, quality wise they were relatively crappy-sounding.
I'm very pleased with the speakers, I will admit I thought they would be a little louder but the sound quality is impressive. If you disable beats the volume is a little greater Imo. I'd try to find a demo unit and mess with it.

I agree with the others. The sound is loud but also clear. My GS3 speaker would get loud but that was only if it was facing away from you or if the sound was reflecting off of something. While it was loud it sounded really distorted. The speakers on the One are loud and don't sound like a teeny tiny cellphone speaker. They sound like decent laptop speakers.

Is amazing how good and crisp they sound. One of those things that you think is overhyped marketing.....and when you see it in action you don't want to get another phone with rear speaker. Crisp. Clear. If music played has stereo quality it comes out as it should. Obviously, these are small speakers, but for the size it's amazing.

I love the speakers, they are loud, but not overbearing, the quality is much better than most others phones I have heard. Im happy I dont have to cup my hand behind the phone anymore just to hear the sound when im watching a youtube video. all in all, I think its the fact that the speakers are in front instead of on the back, it makes for a better user experience IMO.:good:

Sound quality is a bit of a subjective thing (unless you're an audiophile). Personally, I think the beats eq sucks and introduces a lot of background noise and generally sounds like crap. The amp in the DNA can drive some larger headphones, but I wouldn't say it's stellar. I'm not sure about the DNA/One comparison, but I assume they're similar.

Beats tech sounds better than Xloud and a few other brands answer to it. I personally like my Sony VR6's to my Beats and they have been around since the 80's

i agree with you! the regular ibeats sound better than the ibeats with the rezound. i got a pair of monster ntune's and they sound better than the beats. they are overly priced and they did sound good when monster was still with them, but not anymore. like you said the beats eq is all i still want on the phone. my next pair are some beyerdynamic's
I always turn Beats off anyways because my camry has its own eq settings and it produces too much bass and lowering the cars bass just makes it worse. Glad to hear this **** is over.
I just got my DNA last week and I think it sounds better with Beats turned off than the Rezound I had did with Beats turned on. So, for me, it's an upgrade either way. As far as Beats headphones though, I agree that they are overpriced for the small and debatable increase in sound quality that you get. But, then again, I feel the same way about Apple products so maybe I'm the wrong person to ask.

What beats has is the same thing apple and bose have, good marketing departments. If one were to measure the actual sounds against the likes of sennheiser and shure the differences would become apparent. Don't get me wrong, the sound from beats and bose stuff is not terrible, but it isn't as good as their marketing departments would have you believe. I will not be mourning the split.
Bottom line. Any $60 set of cans from a real manufacture kills every set of beats. This is just a fact I'm sorry.
Yeah bose are the same way but I will say that my overpriced qc15's are one of the most comfy set of cans I ever used. Beats can't even get comfort right. Its a fail across the board for them. Sound is just muddy crap. Comfort is what you expect from a cheap crap set of cans. Build quality is way below sub par. I seen more beats snap in 1/2 and pivots and joins fail then any other set of headphones including the cheap $40 skull candys.
You can charge the same amount per oz as gold for a turd but it Dont make it as good as gold. End of the day its just a over priced turd or as we call it....Beats.
I will defend Bose. They dump more money in r and d then anyone else. Yes they are all over priced but Bose's gets comfort and noise canceling. Those are the two things that make me get a set of Bose. They offer something unlike beats that offers nothing you can't get in a $40 set of skull Candy's
I think the best move for HTC is to get as far away from beats as they can. Everyone knows bests suck and is over priced, over hyped. I would call them the apple of audio but that is a huge insult to Apple as at least apple has some quality and beats just slaps there name on any shiny plastic crap they can get out of China for $20 at cost. Then pay some rapper to put them on. They have to be $400 because they have to pay millions to get some rapper to it them on just to sell them. Without it they would sell nothing.
All beats in HTC phones are is a eq curve. Put a real name on it and do they same and I bet they sell more. HTC needs to get in their life boat and let Beats go down like the sinking ship they are then partner with audio tech. Sen, klipsh, Harmon kardon.
And yes I have used and owned Beats Solo HD and pros. They were returned to the store the fallowing day. Yes sound is all personal pref. But no matter what you can get a cheaper better set of cans that kill beats across the board. Most people Dont even listen to lossless audio files they use super compressed crappy mp3 files so picking up a real set of $500 hi fi cans is pointless as you are limited by your format and it will sound the same on a cheaper $100 set of quality cans.
Beats is nothing more then Dr. Dre's last stand before he is officaly washed out. He is just trying to keep his name out there so in 10 years people are like hmm Dre? Didn't he rap with Easy E?
I think people are missing the point. Isn't it the beats amp in this phone? The speaker and overall sound output with this phone is remarkable even with the beats eq off. Beats headphone are overrated, but what they give our phone is good
