Hi all, I was using aSQLiteManager to edit /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/system/settings.db, and it seems to have truncated the db to 81920 characters (it was about 91k to begin with). After rebooting the phone I noticed some of the sound settings had reverted to odd states (some set to silent and some new sounds enabled) and my home button no longer works... argh!
Stupid me, when I noticed the problem I went back into it to see about recovering the backup, and what happened was it overwrote the good backup with the bad file!
What can I do to at least get a fully working version of this back in place? I don't mind re-doing settings, but the loss of the home button really has me stymied.
After doing a little more googling I decided to do a factory reset. I was kind of dumb and didn't realize my titanium backup backups were on internal storage instead of sd card, so I lost more than I'd hoped, but I'll be fine.

For some reason HTC sense has stopped working, I restarted my phone just a bit ago and when it booted back up it said launching sense but it never launched and then later said it was unable to launch sense.
I've tried turning sense off and back on as well as resetting a couple of times.
I haven't done anything with my phone since it stopped working, not installed any cabs or edited the registry just all of a sudden it has stopped working. For some reason programs that use sense for example the dial pad and contacts page (or at least I assume they use some part of sense) are working.
Luckily I can still use default windows screen until I find a possible answer to hopefully save me from a dreaded hard reset.
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this without a hard reset?
I had this problem about 2 weeks ago. I flashed the phone back to stock ROM but it didn't fix the problem. So I had to take it in for repair. I would recommend you do the same mate.
Give this ago.
I've tried using that program above but unfortunately didn't work, so I did a hard reset and thankfully sense did work so it isn't as serious as some people where sense still doesn't work after a hard reset.
But luckily I did a complete backup before hand with spb backup, restored the backup hoping that maybe it would work but like I thought sense stopped working again.
Now just wondering if anyone knows what would be the best things to start disabling from the restore that wouldn't alter sense but yet keeping the phone as close to what it was before it started working?
Used SPB Backup? There uve got the option to customize ure restoring process.
Try to uncheck all/some manila files, uve edited, especially cookies manila files.
I had this. Turned out something on my storage card was giving me problems. Take your SDcard out, then reboot the phone. If Sense loads, format your storage card. If not, then it's another problem.
I've tried removing my memory card but the problem still persists, I then tried to restore certain parts from SPB backup until the problem starts happening again. Restorying everything but the registry and the databases that the problem exists.
Restoring the databases and not the registry leaves sense in a half working state and restoring the registry and not the databases leaves sense completely not working.
Is there a way of restoring all registry values that are related to htc sense and keeping all other values that are related to all other apps

Click to collapse
Not sure about the registry. You might be better doing a task 29 and re-flashing your ROM.
Theres a method which involves deleting manilafull.xml from the windows folder that some people have reported as working...... It didnt work for me....
Ive had this a couple of times...........Once for no reason (I can think of)
The second time was because i took my sd card out while the phone was on.....Unless it just so happened to be a massive conincidence.......
Sorry to say but the only solution I ever found that works is......... the one you dont wanna do....
Yeah thought it would have to be a hard reset, ah well looks like I'll have to spend all day reinstalling a ton of stuff
Thanks anyway
happened to me the other day after i tried booting android. had to hard reset
I had that after booting the phone with a wrong SD card .. other one then i original use .. after putting in the original one again, it wasnt fixed .. had to hard reset
it happened twice with me. but when i flashed my ROM again it worked each time.
im having a problem like this...how can I hard reset without going thru manilla settings?
EDIT: jeez im such a dummy sumtimes....
With your phone powered off, press and hold the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
While holding the volume buttons, press the END/POWER button briefly and then release it.
When you see a warning message on screen, release the VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press the VOLUME UP button to perform the reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Hi, i have a problem. so i put darkstone froyo on my htc hd2. Everything was working perfect even windows mobile and right now when i restarted my phone from android to go back to windows mobile my phone just showed "launching htc sense" but it does load up!:/ the phone and some programs work but i seem to be having a problem with sense as well I have cookies home tab installed as well as bsb tweaks. anyone have any suggestions? i really dont want to hard reset my phone.
yesterday i was using my HD2 like always
this morning it had some error's (like: storage card2 instead of storage card, opera giving "invalid signature" errors, email setup erased, some gui modifications removed (small ones like the one to remove the bars in the main screen)
and after a few tries to restore it (and some soft resets)
the device suddenly decided to completely wipe it self and return to factory mode after a soft reset!!!
luckly i only "lost" some SMS messages (still need to find a good way to back those up)
anyone who has experienced the same thing?
first time i experienced this, i really hope the device is not malfunctioning (hardware like) and it was just a bug in the software
Sounds like some software went completely insane on your device. When you have a new setup, try to add software step by step and then try for while. Maybe you have a chance to identify the bad guy!
As for the backup, did you look into MS MyPhone? It synchronizes your phone content, including the SMS messages. This way you can restore them at any given time.
After installing the HKTW Gingerbread, my lockscreen has disappeared, and the home button isn't working. It's tedious, to the say the least, to have to press the back button about 10 times to get to the home screen.
I've looked online, and it seems people just had to enable the lockscreen again. I can't find the option to disable it or enable it.
From what I remember reading last night some people had success getting their home button working after either restoring data or taking out their battery/putting back in.
I didn't back up data :/
I've pulled the battery several times, to no effect. Its quite annoying lol

Bump, can no one help me with this? Or should I just flash back?
Me too
I'm running 1.83 with an unlocked bootloader. My problem presents itself as no lock screen, home button and search buttons do not work for single press or long press (but do still provide haptic feedback), and holding down the power button only gives the option to power off, not airplane mode or silent.
Factory Data Reset fixes the problem until the power turns off.
Did you restore system data with titanium?
i had the same prob and had pulled the batter 1/2 a dozen times before i saw this thread. didn't help, so titanium to the rescue. not sure what it would take to fix it aside from that, but that was absurd and aggravating to no end, fsck that.
The reason I asked the question was because when I restored all of my system data, this happened to me. I started over again but this time I didn't restore my finger printer scanner data and for the first four packages with "accounts" in their name. Now I have a completely working 2.3.4 with the proper AT&T market.
I didn't do a TiBu before I went to Gingerbread, and had the same problems. Interestingly enough, after installing the build.prop fix, a few hours later I locked the screen and when I turned it back on the lock screen was back.
mine is completely gone too
i had this problem when attempting to restore data via titanium backup. reflashed and downloaded apps fresh, and no problems.
Were you able to figure it out, our did you reflash?
Can anyone please upload the titanium backup for system data?
Yesterday I started having issues with my lapdock -- when connecting to the phone, the lapdock would just show the Moto logo and never go to phone view. Thinking it was a problem with the lapdock, I went to Sprint to try it with another Photon. As it turned out, the lapdock was fine and my phone wouldn't talk to the HD dock either. No new apps had been installed nor settings changed since they both had previously been connected.
After a backup with Titanium, I did a factory reset (didn't wipe personal data). The phone appears to talk with the lapdock again and I haven't tried the HD dock yet. I restored everything with Titanium.
The problem I have though is that the home and search buttons don't work and I'm missing things that were previously on my phone, like when holding the power button the only option there is power off -- no airplane mode and I can't remember the other one that was there.
I tried to initiate a NAND restore (as I saw with another thread), but using the power button+vol up, I can't get it to actually go past the initiating message. I'm charging the phone now since it was at 60% and will try again when it reaches 80%.
What am I missing here? Doing a factory reset should've taken me back to initial everything I thought--so why are things not like the original release?
Updating this in case anyone finds themselves in a similar situation. Did a second factory reset and wiped internal storage this time. Things might be back to normal...default lock screen is back, extra options on the power button are back and home and search buttons work again.
Hi,
Something strange happened with my z5c E5823 running stock 7.1.1. Here is the riddle
I got a message the other day, saying space on internal memory is decreasing and the option to transfer stuff to SD card. Since there were almost no pictures and music on the phone, I keep them on SD card, there was the option to transfer about 2GB of Apps. I choose that (big mistake when I think of it now) .
I continued using the phone while the transfer was in progress and @ some point , the phone crashed. That never happened before. Screen froze and stayed like that for around 10 min, completely inactive, and the phone restarted itself alone. After this it all seemed fine until I tried to start the Camera app. It just gave me black screen and some seconds later the message - Camera has stopped/ Restart app.
The front camera and flashlight don't work either.
Another weather app - AcuWeather didn't want to start too, but after reinstalling it it was alright.
There is no such option for the camera app and clearing data and restarting didn't help.
Decided I will do a Factory reset for the first time since I use the device and tried a manual back up of all the info to the SD card. Contacts , personal info and settings backed up successfully , but the process hanged up at 50% when transferring apps. It crashed and stooped. Tried it 2 times !
Since back up wasn't possible I proceeded with the factory reset and after that the phone successfully restored my personal data, without the apps , but the camera didn't work. I did a Software repair with xperia companion with the same result.
Another bug appeared. When I pull down the full notification bar, and want to edit/rearrange the icons/shortcuts and press the little pencil next to the settings(gear) icon, the phone freezes for a few seconds and than the screen turns black. The phone is unusable at that point, thought it works, and receives calls which i can not answer. I only can restart it, because the power button gets me to the window for power off and restart.
Than I read some camera sensors might get disconnected from the board so I opened the phone , but it was alright inside. nothing changed.
Now I got an open phone and no answer or clue whatsoever of how to proceed.
Any ideas are very welcome!
I there a way to reset the phone to an earlier version of android?
Thanks inadvance!
