Hello!
I just flashed new rom on my phone with android 4.2.2
After setting up my things, I noticed one thing.
Opening phone app, and trying to search something, it works fine, but when I open contacts, and try to search for someone, it always show dublicate entrys for everyone, one from sim memory, otherone from google account.
I have set settings, to use google account only, and it works in phone app, but not in contact search app.
Little annoying, to see every contact as dublicate. . Anything how I can fix this, without deleting my sim contacts?
For me it's working great. Check your settings again and then try wiping cache of the contacts app

I tried, but it didnt help.
Anyone else have advice?
Added picture, of my settings (u can see its set to gmail account), and how it shows when I try to search someone (showing both, sim and gmail contact dublicate).
This is the Samsung contacts app right?
What's the last option there in english?

don't worry. Its a peculiarity of jellybean 4.2.2 to search for all the available v cards in internal and external storage. First of all install any duplicate contacts remover from play store. Remove all the duplicate contacts. Then backup the remaining contacts to a v card. Remove all other v card files from the storage. You are done.

Its "detailed view" or something, where I can set to show 1 or more from the list (if I want sim+phone or sim+gmail or something). I tried, it also doesnt work...

I want to keep contacs in sim card, in case phone breaks or something, I can use sim in another phone and still have my contacts...
Deleting them from sim would solve this, but I need to keep them in my sim.
Phone is my gfs, and only "extra" phone we have, in case of need, is an old non android phone, who cant sync contacts from google...

Im rather confused by how to go about backing up my contacts. Ever since google started backing up contacts, I haven’t quite understood which contacts (sim, phone or both???) it backs up. Is there any good application which backs up all of your contacts, that is , those saved in your sim, phone and google account, altogether.
I flashed bionix V 1.3.1 last night and used ‘MyBackup Root’ & ‘Titanium backup’
to restore my contacts. First I restored user applications with data and all of my contacts were back. Then I used ‘My Backup Root’ to restore contacts. (I don’t know why I took this step). It started erasing all of my contacts before restoring. When it got done, I realized I was missing my contacts saved in sim card.
This is all sooo confusing that I don’t know how to get my sim contacts back.
why did u use the other software once u had used titanium backup?
kies does it aswell ??

Hi, I used My Backup to backup my contact before & restore it after I change to other ROM.
However, it seems the My Backup will erase all your contacts in your SIM card as well after you restore. The WORST part is it restored the contact & store as Google contact. You can't export the contact to SIM card anymore then.
Luckily I have backup in my old phone & imported back into the SIM card & reload it again.
My advise, try Go Contacts app. This app do the tricks where export your phone contact into SD Card & imported back flawlessly.
Why not just have all your contacts inside of Google? And each time you addd a contact, make sure it's being added to your google account. I've been on Android since the G1... never 'backed up' a contact.. Just logged in to my google account on the phone and had them there.
or you can simply read the noob guide in this forum and follow the steps that are proven to be used by alot of people....
I stoted all contacts in Google account, everytime upgrading to new rom, synchronize contact again, all of them will be availabe in your mobile. It's my simple solution.

I dont know of a way to get your contacts saved to your google account AFTER you have already chosen to save them to phone or SIM. I'm pretty sure you only get that option once. I would think you'd have to go thru each individual contact(omg, that sux) maybe erase and then resave and choose ur google account as the location to store. As stated before saving to ur google account is the best option to backup contacts

This is exactly what happened... I couldnt have explained it better myself. My Backup erased all of the contacts (both on sim and phone) before restoring and restored contacts to google. It is important to note that it did not restore contacts that were saved on sim to google. However, when I go into 'My Backup' app and view the data i have backed up. I can see all the contacts (both sim and phone contacts) in there. I will never use 'MyBackup' to backup my contacts.
The reason I dont save all of my contacts to google is I, for odd reasons, sometimes have to use (though rarely) my old school phone. I just insert my sim in it and i get all my contacts.

Well .. Vibrant already has the import/exper function. Try using it and after flashing, open the .vcf file in your external mem card and it will extract your contacts to your phone.

this link helped me out a lot. I believe this is the issue you need help with.
First of all i'm just hoping like hell i've posted this in the right section, if I haven't i sincerely apologize and would ask instead that someone may tell me the correct section to post this
Otherwise
I have a problem when sending or receiving a text from my partner in the conversations list it displays a contact name of "Me" instead if her name, yet when i call her (even directly from the messaging app) it will come up with the correct name in the dialer, If i do not have her saved as a contact it will just display her number but as soon as i save her into my contacts no matter what name i put it will automatically revert back to displaying "Me" and she is the only contact this happens with, every single other contact displays there correct name, this is beginning to become quite frustrating for me as i have run out of things to try to fix the issue,
So far i have tried:
Using the search button :good:
When i found nothing on XDA i turned to Google instead and found nothing
3rd party messaging apps
Deleting all my contacts from my SIM, My phone and Google then re-entering them all manually
Replacing the SIM card with a brand new one
Doing a full wipe of data, system, caches then re-flashing the ROM and setting up a new Google account, again manually typing all contacts
Doing more full wipes and flashing different ROMs
Completely formatting my internal SD card
and finally, flashing a Stock ROM via odin
But sadly none of this has fixed the problem
Im hoping that someone else has had this issue and has found a fix, if so your help would be so greatly appreciated
Solution:
1. Try another messaging app, i recommend go sms, it should solve the problem.
2. Wipe all contacts on your SIM, don't re-enter her contract to the SIM manually, just use Google contacts sync only
3.If you are rooted, backup your present ROM and flash the any Aosp or aokp ROM

Unfortunately i have tried all of these things, I have used Go SMS, Hansent and ICS Messaging
Currently I have no contacts saved to my phone or my SIM, all are synced directly from my new google account
and i have tried many different ROMs including many versions of Paranoid (on which the issue started) versions 1 through to 1.9, Resurection remix, Pure CM9 and 10, Checkrom V6 and V7, Omega V15, Wanam 12.3 and finnally what ive settled on AllianceRom v3
and sadly none of this has worked either

Hm.. Maybe it's different on ICS, if you're on it.
I'm on Gingerbread. In Contacts, I can press Menu > My Profile. This displays a phone number and email address.

Hmm, that's weird. The only way I can get a conversation in messaging to say "Me", is if I text myself. Sorry I couldn't help.
Have you tried to copy contacts to phone memory, not SIM?

I asked him before about the same and I'm waiting for response. But if you saw my post, then you shouldn't copy somebody's ideas (in this case mine).
Unfortunately i have yes
Ive tried doing a full wipe install with a few ROMs and putting contacts on my phone memory only with no sync to Google, ive tried then doing a fresh install and having them on my SIM only (on my old one, my new SIM has never had my contacts saved to it, only service numbers) and currently all my contacts are synced directly from my new Google account, not saved on phone memory or SIM at all
Hi all -
My mom just inherited an AT&T Samsung Galaxy II (rooted, OS ICS 4.0.3, Build IML74K.117) and I am trying to move her contact from her SIM to her phone or, even better sync with her Gmail account.
From the Contacts app, I'm opening the menu and selecting SIM Management, then choosing Copy Contacts From SIM and selecting the option of the Gmail account (I've also tried selecting the Phone option as well). Instead of going to the screen where I can choose the contacts to copy, the phone just goes back to the SIM Management screen. (I took a screenshot of it but it's been 8 minutes and the text is still in Send mode on her phone.)
Any ideas on what is preventing me from being able to move the contacts? My next move is to take it back to stock and see if that doesn't help but that's really a last resort and something I'm trying to avoid.
Thanks in advance!
Lauren

Hi, thanks for responding...
No, because she is coming from a stone-age phone and has never had anything linked to her Gmail account before, which is also new. So in this case, I'm attempting to transfer the SIM contacts to her phone/Gmail account in order to A) get them on the phone in a more unified manner and B) sync with Gmail so that she now has an online backup of her contacts. She's coming from a Motorola Razr circa 2005. For real.
I couldn't say for sure, but the problem could be that the format in which the Razr stored the contacts is not being read by the SGS2 which is kicking you back out of the menu.
This is probably an old thread but no Gmail sync along with cannot send mms, indicate that you probably have no internet access.
Make sure you do have first, either wifi or mobil data turn on

Nope, the format is universal and can be read by pretty much any phone.

I really screwed up this time... Normally I'm pretty good with backing up and preventing this kinda stuff but this one slipped through my fingers. I did a factory reset of my Samsung S3 (US Cellular) and formatted it on my PC via USB. I assumed all my contacts had been saved through my gmail account, but apparently they were not.
#1. Is there any way I can possibly retrieve some of my lost contacts? One number in particular is extremely important.
#2. If they weren't being saved to my Gmail account (some did, some didn't), where did they save to?

I'm supposed to 'sync' every time I want a number to be saved? I've had this number in my phone for months and months.
If your contacts haven't been saved in GMail account then see if your Sim Card has them. When you save a contact, you can choose to save it in your phone's memory or Sim Card. To see if your Sik Card has your contacts saved, Go to Contacts, press Home button and tap Import and hen choose import from Sim Card.

Normally, and if you activated the sync, it should sync once you created the contact and you got an internet connection. If this did not happen, and you already formatted anything and don't have any nandroid backup or Titanium Backup of the contacts files, I fear there is no way to get those contacts not synced back.
Did you check the contacts in Gmail on web? The phone saves to Google account based on preferences settings.

Yes.
Check with your Service Provider, and demand a print of calls or sms messages sent from your number in a specific time frame, that way you'll 100% get the number. But this method is not free, they will charge you for it. Good luck.

maybe this tool is useful:
Wondershare Dr Fone for Android
i'm not allowed to post links.
This kind of got lost in the midst of bigger stuff in the other thread so I figured I'd try one specifically for it, since it's my main issue.
My contacts were saved to my device (or SIM maybe?), not my google account. I know, bad idea, but it was unintentional and it's done. Due to another issue I had to remove and re-add my google account to my phone. When I did this, all of my contacts disappeared. Nothing shows up in my contacts app and when I get a call from someone that I had as a contact I only see their number, not their name/contact info.
I don't know what the relation is between my contacts that were stored on my device and my google account being temporarily removed from my phone, but I don't think those contacts are actually deleted. If I go into the app manager I see something there called "contacts storage" that is 9.2mb in size. I'm guessing this still has the contact's info? Is there any way to retrieve this and/or get them to show up again?
You can change which storage you want to use for contacts. While in contacts hit the menu button.. From there it's relatively easy..
When you get your contacts to didplay it's worth merging with google and filter the storage to google only.

None of these work for me. If I change the contacts to display to "device" it shows only the built-in AT&T contacts (view your bill, etc). If I choose SIM card it displays nothing.
Same deal with import. Shows nothing found.
If you have an American model of the s3 then you are in the wrong forum, this is for the i9300 only.
