Can you manually mount the efs partition in recovery or access it from within the Rom?
If not then your efs partition might be corrupt, format and restore your efs backup.

[Q] Cant mount /data

My phone gets stuck in a bootloop, just constantly showing the samsung animation. I can get into both CWM recover and Download mode. I have tried flashing a new rom, wiping everything and restoring a previous Nandroid backup. Now the problem with this is when trying to wipe i get the message error mounting /data and it skips this step. This message appears when trying to factory restore/wipe, restore to previous back up and when trying to mount /data from the mounts and storage menu.
I think the closest I have found to resolving this problem is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030
Now the problem with this is it is for a verizon galaxy s3, so im assuming not the i9300. Will it be safe to try with an international version?
Or is there any other fix that I could do?
By the way my carrier is 3 if that helps.
Thanks

Problem with EFS and NAND backup

Hi guys,
I just got my phone back from service, it had a problem with the EFS partition (couldn't mount it, invalid argument). Until that, I had a NAND backup, and had the csc CNX, so I thought I should restore data from the nand (with CWM recovery 6.0.2.7). It all went ok, but when my phone rebooted, it couldn't connect to the network, the imei was ok, wifi ok. BTW, after the service, my csc was VD2.
So, the network wasn't working and I thought I should restore the efs folder. Still the same. Tried with restoring the efs partition and voila, now I'm at the beginning again (can't mount efs, invalid argument).
Before restoring from CWM, I tried flashing back my original stock FW with the csc CNX, but it wouldn't change, it remained VD2...
Any idea what could have happened?

Network no modem did you flash a modem did you read how to change CSC .
You need a service centre ask them to do it all .
jje
Hm, so the network wasn't working because of the wrong CSC? Strange, it was working before the restore... No, I did not flash the modem, I only tried restoring the EFS, but I think you deserve a thanks

I9300 battery died now bootloops

Hi guys little intro
Samsung galaxy S3 I9300 International
Running
TWRP recovery
Slimbean android 4.3
Basically what happened is the battery died on the phone so i swapped it out for a charged one and the device just bootloops on the slimbean logo. I then went into recovery to restore from a backup and after the restore it said "This device does not appear to be rooted would you like to install supersu." <-- alarm bells?? so i click yes, and now it doesnt even boot up the slimbean logo it just sits at the samsung one.
I have tried
Re rooting using cfroot
Reinstalling recovery
Reinstalling the rom
Restoring to a backup.
Nothing is working? is it possible for phones to throw wobblys and unroot themselves? which would explain why i cant load a custom rom?
Whats worse i cannot for the life of me figure out why just pulling the battery would result in a bootloop?

help pleaseeee
An instant shut down will usually result in data corruption, first try clear cache and dalvik, next a mega wipe script.
If that also fails then probably best to flash a stock rom using odin on your pc. You might need your efs backup if that partition was damaged.
Managed to resolve the issue by first re rooting with cfroot then installing twrp then reflashing the ROM, unfortunately my micro SD card got corrupted over 30gb of music and data gone, not impressed, also lost my nandroid backups and my titanium backups

[Q] recover mmc error (can't mount efs) without PC?

Hi, im stuck in a boot loop. i can only boot into recovery (TWRP)
I'm trying to reflash my rom and I'm unable to mount my efs partition..
there is many solution on how to fix this, but all of them involve flashing something to the phone via the data pins... which is my other issue
the data pins on my S3 are damaged so I can not flash anything to it!..
anyone know of a way I can fix this???
EDIT: i think i solved it, i realized i had backed up the EFS in one of the TWRP backups on my SD.. it restored and i was able to flash my rom without errors.
thanks

Since you have got it sorted I suggest you go and get the micro usb fixed.

Can't boot into recovery and can't boot after EFS restore

Hello,
I'm a rather experienced Android user. Before I flashed my S3 for the first time, I made sure to back up my EFS. After about a year and a flash of the newest ArchiDroid version, I couldn't get any signal all of a sudden. It worked the days before, and I flashed nothing new or installed anything. I read online about what that might have caused, and it seems like the problem of a lost EFS partition was the problem. I restored my EFS, rebooted, and the phone won't turn on now. It is stuck on the flashing "SAMSUNG" logo on start-up. Thinking I did something, I tried to boot into Clockwork recovery, but it only shows the ClockworkMod logo for about a second, then it reboots again. What should I do?
Try flashing a full stock firmware with Odin, but sudden failure could be nand wear.
Thanks for the reply, I flashed stock firmware with Odin. No errors, but I'm still stuck at the flashing "SAMSUNG" logo.
Boot into recovery and factory reset.
Alright, got into recovery.
Got an error: "E:Failed to mount /efs". How do I restore my EFS with my efs.img now?
EDIT: Managed to get my phone back to work, However, still no signal. Mobile data and phoning does not work.
Format the efs partition then restore your backup, check the permissions then factory reset again.
Edit. If your efs backup was really old, ie. efs v1, then you might have to flash a firmware from before EMG4 to get the efs read, then update to 4.3.
