I have tired it on an AOSP build, which was Pac-Man rom and the tv app didn't work. Right now the IR sensor isn't working on AOSP roms so that include CM10, Pac-man, and Paranoid.

Just another reason to stay sense based I guess. Dang. Not saying I don't understand the appeal of AOSP but still, with so much comprimization (camera, burst mode, the superior controls of the htc camera, ir blaster, beats audio), especially considering how solid sense has been since sense 4, It surprises me how many people would still prefer to run AOSP.

That's true, I tried both and I like both. I have been sticking with sense, but their are some features that I like about aosp, because of that I am on sentinel rom which is sense but it kind of hybrid because it has certain features that are in aosp for an example is the quick setting ans pie control. You should definitively check it out and it also is ridiculously fast and amazing with battery life.

Is there a pure AOSP rom out there or nearly pure made to work with the DNA?
Short answer: Nope
Long answer: You are more than welcome to look through the Development thread. There are only a dozen or so Roms so it shouldn't take you too long
Longer answer: CM10.1 is in the works but I'm not sure its at daily driver status yet.
Sorry for the sarcasm...

Yep. It's almost there. As soon as the camera is working I would consider it dd status
Sent from my ViperDNA using Tapatalk 2
I've been using CM 10.1 for my dd for a little over a week and have had no issues other than the lack of camera and an easily removed issue with GPS.
I'm no developer, but from my experience with the LG Spectrum, once CM has all of the hardware functioning, then AOSP and AOKP are not terribly difficult. In the case of the spectrum, a fully functional pacman ROM was released a few months after CM was completed.
Question of my own. What exactly needs to be done to gain official support for CM? I would love to be able to flash nightlies like on my nexus 7.

I've been using it as dd off and on. It's good enough for me to use it a few days a week for now. I really hope development picks up after cm10 is ready. I feel like not enough developers have this phone for there to be a lot of support. Idk if devs actually need the phone to make ROMs for it though.
Regardless, Chad, cr, fly, and the other devs working on cm have done a spectacular job. If we have a cm ROM, aokp, and pa I will be ecstatic.
Is there any point in having a 100% pure aosp ROM?

i don't want all the crap themeing and "mods" that come with CM, I just want pure android, if I want to add something ill do it myself.
I've contemplated back and forth for some time whether I want to build AOSP for the DNA. The camera really has been a PITA for another device I've been working on; It shouldn't be as camera works on CM10.1. However, it would suck to put all that work into it for the camera to be the hold up (although, I don't think it will be as difficult since its 8mp and the one I have somewhat working is 13mp).
The main issue is that if I build AOSP (well technically I have already built it), I would prefer to stick to google's base code as much as possible without bringing in CAF/CM code to achieve goals. Doing this, makes things a bit more difficult.
I suppose it's also a bit of whether it is worth the effort and if people really want it as well.

CM, AOSP ... it's all gravy.. they'll get it.. all of it.. in time.. They have made enormous stride with CM 10.1 it's almost unbelievable what they've accomplished.. DD for me.. because from here on out, it's all fixes and tweaks.. I wouldn't mind a pure Vanilla AOSP rom, but these things take time.. We'll get there.. Not just yet.. but I'm sure things are cooking now that many of the issues have been fixed..

The cm10.1 camera software is pretty noisy compared to the stock htc camera software on the phone.Quality is noticeable. The audio quality was very noticeable as well. There was distortion playing songs that didn't distort using beats audio. The app that comes with cm10.1 for audio cannot get the sound close to the way it did out of the box. I switched back to an HTC sense rom. Non of the paid camera apps in google play could come close to the htc tweaked camera that came with the phone.
Hoping for better roms. I'm currently on trickdroid with htc sense 5 and android 4.2.2 but even that is limited in terms of customize ability. It's just not clean. I'm waiting for the HTC one Google edition ROM.

i see. i noticed the difference from the stock with cm10.1. i love the customizations on cm10.1 but love the camera on the stock. thanks for input.
The Sense 5 camera is very nice, unfortunately, as mentioned above and agreed by everyone here on the subforums, the picture quality with the CM 10.1 camera suffers a lot, its just not optimized for the 4 UP camera on this phone. Image quality, sharpness and ability to do special functions like panorama suffer a lot. I'm not even sure HDR does what it's supposed to do.
I'm hoping once the GE rom is made available the camera and audio functions will be improved, even if it means switching to a different rom. I'd rather not as I like the simplicity of CM.

Why should everyone convert? What if they like sense? And what do you mean by features? You're probably not going to get ir functionality yet, you definitely won't be getting zoe, blinkfeed or other sense features so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.
Not to mention anyone running custom roms just have to wait until someone makes a custom rom based off of it and we get the exact same thing.

Any good app you recommend for using the IR BLaster?
I ask this because when I first had the Sense version of the HTC One I liked their TV remote app which controlled my panasonic TVs and Directv boxes quite painlessly.
I'd like to give that a second try as its about the only thing I miss from sense. Which is funny cause I don't miss Zoe at all (which is the thing people seem to complain about). I dig the Stock Android Camera App...

Go into one of the 4.3 AOSP threads and read what people think about them.
In the future, will it be possible to extract Nexus5 rom/updates and apply them directly to G2 ?
Just asking, because G2 and Nexus are sharing a lot of same hardware.
It'll probably be easier to port Nexus5 rom, instead of having a lot of work on a common 10.2CM ?

Its fairly easy to port ROMS from Nexus 5. However reading log cats is the main thing here. Thankfully most people can't read log cats so it stops the noobs flood the place with terrible ports. To answer your question yes it can.

Yea the Optimus G Pro already received 4.4 based off the N4. I'm suprised we haven't got 4.4 based off the N5 yet. Perhaps the devs are still getting comfortable with the new hardware.
Real good to know about the N5/G2 ease of porting. I'm particularly curious about the kernels and how similar they are to one another. Moving forward with newer versions of Android, the kernels are the important thing.
I'm hoping it'll be easier to port roms over. The only concern I have is whether or not they'd work with the VZW version. Not sure if you could use the RIL from the G2 or a new file from scratch would have to be made to be able to get working data.

its for technical reasons, that samsung camera never has been ported to AOSP Roms. to get the samsung camera working the Samsung Framework is needed. But you choose AOSP to get rid off Sammy FW. so no chance to port this cam to aosp.

drat. well, thanks for the answer! it resolves the quandry and now i dont have to wait for something that will never happen. I just wish there was a TW ROM that is newer than MOAR. I LOVED MOAR, but its a bit aged now
Try snap cam hdr...
I've tried so many camera apps to find a proper alternative for the stock camera.
Snap Camera is the best i've found but it's freaking me out, that no App can film in slowmotion like the stock cam.
