Hello all,
First time poster, and first time ROM flasher, so I would really appreciate some advice on this one!
I flashed Cyanogenmod 10.1 this afternoon to my S3, and everything was fine until I realised I couldn't access the contents of the internal SD card. Even when plugging it into my laptop via the USB cable, it wasn't being recognised.
One of the instructional videos I followed advised to 'wipe cache and partition' in Clockwork Recovery during the setup process. This must be why this has happened. The free space on the phone is now only 4GB, but the remaining 11GB or so is in limbo.
Can anyone shed some light on this for a total novice?

Thanks, I have downloaded ES, but I don't have /data/media unfortunately. I've looked everywhere... I think I'm screwed. The content shows up fully still in CWR though, weird.
The file manager must be given root permissions and you must navigate UP to the root directory. Up from sdcard

Here's how you get there with latest es.
From main screen...
Menu, tools, root explorer
(Accept root access request)
Press / button to get to "device" then navigate to /data/media

i own a galaxy s3 and i have a problem: i cannot download files from the browser. for example, is this restaurant where i order pizza, they have a .pdf menu that you can download. i click on it and it says download unsuccessful. in download manager it says not enough space (i have over 23 gb free space...). i googled it and i found something related to lucky patcher but i don't even know what that is because it isn't installed on my phone. i had insertcoin rom installed, now i have daky. the same problem occured on both roms. Please, can someone help me to repair my phone? it's so awkward to have such a device and to be unable to download a 1MB file from the internet...
I had the same problem it ended up that in the browser setting it was set up to download to sd instead of device and I somehow corrupted my SD card you might have the same problem try move a folder to your SD card and if it says failed then you will have to move all data on SD to internal or a PC and format the SD card then it will be OK that's what happened to me .... if you need any help pm me good luck

if its happened on both roms its likely to be the SD card corrupted just transfer all data to internal or a PC ,format the SD then you can transfer it back and all will be OK it sounds just like my problem I've had twice before I don't know how I managed to corrupt my SD but I did ...by default the browser is set to download to SD card and because of the corruption it was unable to download anything to it I think the setting is in the advanced part of browser settings. I hope this helps

maybe you encrypted the sd , and when you formatted it the encrypt key was deleted , i'm sorry to tell you if that is true , you just lost your mem card
and try using your mobile specfic forum , as alot of members aren't that friendly here , and the forums rules are strict :good:
galaxy s3 download unsuccessful for .doc in Internet browser
Hi there everyone,
Thank you for your explanation above.
Please be patient with me as I am new to Android, having migrated from iPhone to galaxy s3.
I have been trying to download a .doc from the Internet. I tested my iphone, downloads in seconds and opens a open with box. Trying this file on the galaxy and it takes ages to supposedly download which shows as unsuccessful. Repeatedly.
Things I have tried:
Going into security and ticking the unknown sources check box to hopefully allow downloads from Internet - to no avail
I want to try the SD issue but I don't know the process to change the default download to settings.
Things to note
the file is super small
I don't have a SIM in
Connected to wifi - reliable
I am grateful for any help
Rachael

If they are on your ext sd, 2.5.0.0 has a storage location selection near the top in the middle.
---------- Post added at 05:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:29 PM ----------
Just booted in to see exactly where it was and yes...at the top in restore where it says storage: data. Tick that and you can select from ext sd. The navigation is a bit different on 2.5

Yeah the layout on 2.5 seems tricky. I had to dig to find storage location in a few of the menu layouts. Team Win apparently wants to keep us from getting to complacent lol

using Aroma file Manager, wont help, still cant find the sdcard only sdcard0, i think i will just have to format my sdcard, it does show that it has taken space from my previous files, but still cant find these files
what should we do? same problem here! i can't hear songs or see pictures who are not in folder 0! how the **** whe change sdcard0 to sdcard? its driving me crazy!!
Android 4.2.x uses a different partitioning of some sort because of the Multiuser feature. All of your previous internal sd card data is in /data/media
Use a File Explorer with Root permissions to access this directory.

You need to get rid of cwm. It doesnt handle this well. Try Philz based on cwm as you can toggle between locations

hello,
thanks for your reply, I have s3 i9300 brick dead boot, can't boot up, I have searched image file FOR recovery of s3 < sd card 3.72 gb>,the guy said that this iimage you need to write on sd card and give software name as well but can't write on sd card <Win32DiskImager> < HDDRawCopy1.02Portable> .
I want to use this method for my s3 dead boot problem
Brief JTAG process for GT-I9300
1) Copying JTAG(bootloader) file to external SD Card, using normal GT-I9300.
2) inserting the SD card to ‘No Power’ phone, and copy the bootloader file to the defective PBA.
3) After downloading bootloader file to the defective phone, enter the download mode with the phone, and download Full S/W.(PIT, PDA, CSC, PHONE files)
now could you plz know any software to write image file to sd card?
THANKS
There's a thread in general somewhere on how to do this.
Search sds, jtag, boot

Flashed Paranoid Android a few days ago and ran it for a few days then decided I'd flash back to my stock rooted backup. Everything went fine so I thought but now my sd card doesn't show up right in my apps... Twrp recognizes it like nothings wrong but when in android itself it's like things are saving to some imaginary sdcard... The things I download to flash don't show up in Twrp but when I use ES they show up along with a couple folders but the rest of my actual sdcard isn't accessible within any app... System is still intact and accessible just the sdcard card partition(guessing it's partioned cause this is the first phone I haven't had an extSD)

This is a secondy user partition that's made/created as sdcard0
Everyone' knows about it not really anything new , you have to format a particular section to get whatever u had or want back to your original internal storage.Especially when going from 4.2.2 back .I gave up on caring about it myself
It's a very ignorant and annoying thing that Google came up with it's on all phones with 4.0 or higher now .

So is there an easy fix to get my original storage back visible to my apps? And will it do this with sense 4.2.2 also? Would be great to know how to handle this problem for future flashing purposes... First time I've ever ran into this...

Just copy from data/media over to /sdcard0
Twrp will recognize then

Now that I try and remember I'm not exactly sure on how to do it I believe you can go to sd card 0 and go into each folder and copy and move everything back to SD card once everything is moved just format SD card 0

I may be wrong about this I know there is a way to do it with re partitioning you will just have to ask around and see if there's any one more knowledgeable about this I'm not sure why you have not been getting replies besides mine the problem is you don't want to format it with losing everything in the SD card 0 that is valuable

The thing is that my phone doesn't recognize the regular sdcard when not in recovery so I can't move anything to the original file structure... But if I don't care what's in the new sdcard0 can I just format that and it will restore the original file structure?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
And recovery doesn't see the new file structure... So no file management there either...
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Just go in Twrp choose wipe choose format type yes
Then hit go ...
It will reformat system ..
If neccesry prior to that put your photos and info on laptop or dropbox before you format the entire system .

One last dumb question... Doing that won't wipe my system etc? Just what was being used as my internal storage? Won't need to install a Rom or anything after? And dude thanks a lot you seem to be the only one willing to help me out... Much appreciated...

HTC is strange and iffy and when it comes to finiking with the sealed storage , these phones with no external sd can put you in a mess if you don't do things right .
I've formated system data once to erase my phone to resell...
What you need to do is get the stuff off the phone to a safe flash drive or pc... I can't gsurentee what you'll use cause formatting is formatting, don't do it if you don't feel safe .
Note, if you are ever to format or wipe reset your device And get ready to choose reboot system and it says
No OS Installed STOPPPPP!!
REVERSE Do not continue to reboot system .
This means there is literally no os system to reboot to no bootloader and if u reboot your bricked .
As long and there's a custom recovery you can always adb sideload a Rom from pc to phone to flash it and get a Rom back on if you ever experience issues.
That was all just a word to the wise !!!
All I cam further suggest is to backup transfer data pics etc.... To a pc then format system
You phone will be all fresh after that .
Do way you feel, or get opinions first , just don't loose precious info if you format

I've got most of it backed up already because I backed up before I ran moonshine a few days ago... Just iffy on formatting cause I don't wanna be stuck without a OS loaded on the device... Do you think it would fix itself if I just flashed a new Rom from scratch? Just want my sense working properly with it reading the right sdcard info...
