I'm looking for advice on making a lighter version of the stock verizon rom, like a cleanrom lite.
I'd like to make a heavily debloated rom that doesn't have the verizon backup stuff or anything
else unnecessary. I've been running cleanrom ace and love it, but would like to experiment
with a verizon base. I'm sure the info on how to do this is available, but I'm
looking for some advice on where to start. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I have the token to unlock my phone, just haven't done it yet.
I'm used to flashing and modding, however I've never had so many choices! I like sence, id like to debloat and root my phone, and possibly get better battery life... Is one Rom better than another for that? (Battery life)

Ok Here is the deal...you have many choices. I would flash'em all and go with what you feel is the snappiest most consistant rom. You have plenty to choose from to keep you busy until the wife or the girlfriend gives you the screwface...lol. You got the big homey llllboredlll repping with the RezRom,
you got the mad scientist Nilsp coming with Business Gingersense, Then comes Bamf with their Rezound Rom, Chingy and Newt with ineffabilis, Scrosler with Cleam Rom. Also as time goes on more developers will come to the party.
I mean there are so many choices and I can't and won't say what Rom is better. It is user preference.
Just flash and decide.
We are hardly inundated with ROMs ... we've been unlocked for a week..

I literally laughed out loud at this because I am the wife. My husband does not want to hear anything about flashing unless its on the beach or out a car window! He's just not into technology.... He just got a smart phone 2 months ago...and yet he still only uses the phone and text. Wants nothing to do with me hacking his phone. Heehee.
Thanks for all your input.

"smartest kernel"? Do you have a link? I'm not aware of one that goes by that title and a google search just linked to everyone being the smartest owner by owning the Rezound over the other two phones that will remain unnamed.

should be as simple as restoring a titanium backup of it. Did you do a titanium backup before flashing? If not, someone might be able to post the apk.

scrosler has a zip of all the apps he removed from his CleanROM. He mentions it in this post on his thread and you can link to it from his sig:

I'm new too, but when I've installed apks I've done it using adb in the command prompt on a pc. cd to the directory you have adb in and then type "adb install {point to where you have put the apk}"
If there's an easier way someone else will have to tell you.

Best place to start is finding out what build you're on as options are limited to some degree depending upon that. I'm assuming you're going to be on one of the newer ones. Lemme know and we'll go from there bud.

Unfortunately, I am on the newest build that came out. I had no idea that the bootloaders were locked until after I updated. I actually came from the S3 so I pretty much know the tools that I need and things like that but I have never ever heard of Loki before, all I know is its some type of makeshift work around for the bootloader.

You will not be able to install a custom recovery on your device, as any build past MDK (the original build) has pretty much been locked down. Only MDK people have the ability to use Loki.
Your only alternative is Safestrap, basically you can only flash ROMs that use the stock kernel...which means no AOSP. There's a thread for it here somewhere.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
Damn that's dissapointing to say the least. I really loved AOSP on my S3 and I really hear that its pretty great on on the S4. Oh well, I will just enjoy 4.3 until 4.4 comes later this month, or year due to Verizon's AMAZING speed when it comes to updates. -_-

I've been away a while. If I'm understanding correctly I can one click route my MK2 and install Samsung based ROMs without a custom recovery using mobile Odin. Can anyone please confirm it or correct me? If I'm right can you give me ideas what to look for in a ROM that will work with this method. Thanks and sorry if this has been asked. I did search but there wasn't much to look at in terms of direct solutions.

Personally, I've never heard of what you're describing. The only way I know of with MK2 is to root using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758.
After that, your only option for roms is Safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2441441. You will only be able to install TouchWiz 4.3 based roms. Make sure they're compatible with Safestrap before you install.
My advice would be to do a lot of research. This is a good place to start. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2606501.
Good luck
Edit: Just noticed your profile says your using AT&T. This is the Verizon forum.

This is the Verizon forum, not at&t. However I believe mobile odin is only useful for restoring the phone to a factory state without a computer, not flashing roms, yet you must be rooted. I could be wrong though.

Ok looking like I misunderstood then. Thanks for the clarification. I don't think I trust the idea of the safestrap. I know it's safer, but I have been flashing ROMs for years and the recovery method makes me warm and tingly. I don't think they'll ever crack into the ability to flash the way we're all used to. safestrap has been around for years for other phones and recently hashcode ported to the S4 last fall. I have used it since that time with zero issues and have been running several ROMs at a time to evaluate, with again no issues with safestrap. Not sure why you wouldn't "trust it".....as it gives all us non-MDK owners ability to run something else than just stock.

Exactly, I've been hammering away on Safestrap since my RAZR and it's really safe just like the name implies. Granted I could flash AOSP on the razr, but my guess is at some point kexec will come around for the S4 as well. Too many really smart people working on that project for it to fail in my opinion.
Anyways.... For now Safestrap is awesome, and happy to have it.

Unfortunately the bootloader was locked down very tight by Verizon and the devs are working hard for a workaround but there is nothing in terms of aosp Roms for safe strap. If you want something with aosp styling, I'd recommend hyperdrive rls14. It has aosp theming and insane battery life.

Honestly my phone works perfectly imo, just thought it would be a good idea to update so I can try something new. In your opinion, is it worth it? Maybe I'll get better battery life and less glitches, even though I don't have many.
