[Q][XU] Screen Update problems in landscape mode - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Hello all,
Could anyone please explain to me why when the 'show screen updates' option is ticked in the developer options and the phone is kept in landscape mode, a small portion of the screen next to the SONY logo refuses to update with the rest of the screen ?
The resulting pattern is not a flash of color per update but a couple of vertical black lines that aren't evenly spaced.
This pattern however disappears when the screen is touched several times and reappears when the scrolling is stopped.
This seems to occur only in stock [.10,.54,.89] firmwares and stock based ROMs .
It DOES'NT occur in CM based ROMs however. So a hardware issue is ruled out .
I thought that the problem was 'screen tearing' but now I'm not sure ...
Edit: Video link :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjwNp8CcjDc .
I could really use some help in debugging this problem :fingers-crossed:

I can post a video of the above problem if anyone needs me to.
EDIT: Video link posted see post No. 7

Its because Sony hates our device and dont want to male good firmware for it. Fa*s

LOL .... Does it occur on your phone too?

Afaik screen tearing in landscape mode, just there next to the sony logo, is a know bug, and that must be connected to your problem. And yes it occurs on my phone too

So you suspect screen tearing too huh ? :good:
I've tried adding available Vsync scripts but it doesn't work... CM ,MIUI & Stock GB Roms have no occurrence of this
I'm on GB ROCKS V3 now coz I cant stand this one issue.
Sony seems to be releasing ICS firmwares regularly [Ref. new b.100 firmware]BUT Still NO SIGN OF A FIX!!
Even stock unofficial JB has the problem =( .
Ive tried asking a kernel developer for help but he seems too busy.
See ,
I've observed that if the kernel frequency is kept above 400Mhz i.e 500Mhz and above then there is ZERO distortion! , now the only kernel with a frequency table having 500Mhz is the Transcendence kernel which can't seem to keep the MIN frequency fixed over time so it jumps back to 200Mhz .I've reported the problem and I hope it's addressed. This seems to be the only work-around . Try it yourself keep min frequency at 800Mhz and max at 1Ghz and BAAM ! No tear !
I really hope that a developer takes notice of this problem and attempts to fix it without messing with the CPU frequencies ...:crying:

Here's a link to the video
Hope that someone figures out what the problem is :

[Q] LG Optimus One - P500 - Kel_Sceptic's Opinion

I love this phone, its really the best phone money can buy @its price.
But like allways, there must be something there that must drive us/me crazy.
This phone losses 30% of its "beauty" because of the "touchscreen pushed makes CPU go to 100%" , losses another 40% for the "buttons working but the touchscreen freezes" bug and It wont unfreeze until you do a "lock and swipe unlock" .
So untill this phone gets an official update that fixes all the problems above (2.3, or 2.2 or 2.2.1, really dont care", I'm using this beauty just as a phone (30% calls and sms).
Additional notes: till now i've tried Pimev2 and now runing void (Thanks for your work Noejn).
What do you guys think about this ?

About touch-100%-CPU-problem - this problem have many devices, but unfortunately, as other phones have about 50% CPU when screen is touched, optimus have 100%. Anyway, this main problem should be fixed in 2.3 android release.
About buttons-working-but-the-touchscreen-freezes problem I have to say, sorry. I didn't notice this problem at all.
And at the end I would like to add ARMv6-CPU, which brings too many limitations, one of the worst is Flash player support, which we will never see
who needs flash for phone, flash lite is enough...

Some of the guys working/testing on the CM7 port say that flash works. Have you tried it?
I tested the ROM, but I can't seem to get an IP address from the router, so I can't install Dolphin to test flash
EDIT: And oh. So I could be of any help to this thread, I checked to see if the touchscreen cpu thing still exists, and yes, it's still there. Sorry :/
How could you figure that out since there are no 3d drivers and everything is supported by CPU ? I really hate it when somebody talks crap..

ICS Screen flickering bug.

Hi,
After ICS update I noticed a very annoing and frequent bug.
It was described by other users in these subforums, and factory reset can not help it.
It is difficult to describe, as it lasts for maybe one tenth of a second and I can't find a proper word for this as I'm not a native English speaker.
But I recorded a video, so you can see this.
It's like a single flickerring in a shape of triangle in left bottom part of the active window or entire screen - a short white blink.
In the video I show it happening when pressing Menu for Recent Tasks, but it happens in other occasions too.
When playing video there are also some 1/10 second distortions - difficult to describe, but I suspect they have something in common with this bug...
Let's hope Sony will see this and fix this bug.
I really wonder how such a bug could have left after the development stage. I, as a regular user, have noticed this after a couple of hours of playing with the tablet. What about Sony testers?
It's annoying!! its happening to me also, mines are black, and they happen in the left side of the tablet screen. :/
Not seeing flickering on mine yet.
Im just here because i am looking for a system dump to port things but it is a common issue on the Asus Transformer on ICS as well It is not a device specific bug but rather one in google's code. One fix is to only have <5 apps running at a time
Mine does not show this flickering .
Also....this is a development section of the forum . Your question should have been posted in the Tablet S General section
This is happening to a lot of us. It has already been discussed in the General section under the ICS First Impressions topic.

Yes I have the flickering, and it happens a lot using recent apps on the homescreen.

This is very useful info. Thank you!!!!
I had it a little yesterday but it's gone today
Got it too but its not that annoying,
It does not happen all the time its just an google thing,
It will not damage anything but if you think its to annoying then you could try
to use a CPU speed up "Dont apply EXTREME" that will higher the chance to
crash your device, i think the tegra chip is getting to much info to read,
so its a sort of buffer overrun maby speed up app will lower the flickering

Mahaco
You can't over clock the kernel.. We don't have a kernel which supports that yet

I have flickering too. It's probably due to low ram at certain points. Even with the flickering on occasion, the recent apps list is MUCH faster than on Honeycomb.
the flickering only happens on my tablet when it's in the cradle on clock mode and it stops completely if I use a regular wallpaper instead of a live wallpaper
To me flickering happens when I open recent apps on the launcher or when I ve a popup (inside the application, on internet etc.) with a dark trasparent effect under. The same graphical problem turn up heavily with the youtube application or sometime using keyboard.
It's very very annoying this problem. It doesn't limit the use of the tablet, which is very fast and smooth, but simply ruins something which, simply, would be perfect without it.
It will be interesting create a class action, a mail, with the signature of who wants a resolution of this problem, to send to Sony for forcing it to realize a solution.

Let me retract my previous statement. Since I've rooted ICS and have been using it more and I do see screen flickering occasionally.
I can't say that I see any performance improvement with ICS though.
http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/26/lg-optimus-4x-hands-on/
25 seconds into the video, you can see it happen on the new LG optimus 4X, i think it may be something to do with ICS.
If you people bothered to read the entire thread you would see that it has happened to other tablets. Not only the Sony. ASUS has this problem as well.
Read the thread and you will see
Yup ISC bug, first i didn't give a shhh.. but now its getting pretty annoying i hope it will be better with 4.0.4. Wich runs super smooth on my Samsung Galaxy S2 in tablet mode.
yes, have the same problem! It's annoying!

Display lag (occassionally slow)

Dear Comm
I am using my ACE since last summer, and am somewhat satisfied with it, especially since i use Link2SD.
Only thing bugging me regulary is a lag on the display - when i push the unlocker-key from the left to the right, i can see how the key is sliding over very choppy. And also switching from one homescreen to another is also very choppy (and somewhat annoying).
Later on again it can be ok again, sometimes, also when the phone has been locked. All very elegant and slidy - so a phone reboot won't solve the problem in general.
This phenomenon appears occassionally, no matter for how long the phone is running already.
I'm using this ROM: GingerReal 2.0
But i experienced this on the original Samsung ROM also...
I found a thread about this or a very similar issue here: click
But its just said that this is an general Gingerbread issue...
Can anyone confirm this and or give me a clue on how to solve this one?
Thanks all

like tomb20 said, set min cpu freq to 240 or higher [depends on you], bcoz like in unrooted stock roms, the phone goes down to 122 Hz, which causes the lag in waking up...
yesss! it's much better now - i set min mhz to 320 thow, since with 240 i still had laags sometimes.
[very recommended app]
//Edit @480 mhz for min. now - since i had screenlags with 320 also ocassionally...

{Q} - Galaxy SII overheat issue

Dear Family,
i have a problem with my galaxy SII since i got the phone tell now
i've got this handheld 6 month back and its now rooted having ICS AOKP RR 2.2 with CM kernel remix
and the device is getting overheated in the part of the camera , the overheat is happening when ever am browsing the net on WIFI or even 3G
i searched the internet regarding the same and i got that the issue is in the base-band so i flashed KH3 and nothing was changed
i flashed my device with amout 300 ROM (official/unofficial) and nothing change in this issue
also i found that my device sometimes is stucked on 1200 MHz for about 5 MINS without a valid reason in the foreground
appreciate your cooperation
Regards,
Moe
Mine heats up too, if you think about how much stuff is crammed into such a thin, light phone it's no wonder it gets hot
Don't worry about it

You have to worry when battery temp reaches more then 50 degree C, turn of phone for 2 mins then
Their are apps on market to measure it

300 ROM??? Hmmm... Anyway I m also having(probably Had ) the heating issue... First Kernel-Siyah 3.2.x was heating while talking in call also.. Used to heat up like anything. Now on Fluxi heat reduced but not completely.. Today I called my frend to McD to check his SGS2 phone.. His phone is purely stock and was runnning ICS official 4.0.3.. For normal use the phone dint heat, neither mine.. Now the heat game started when I watched a Video(Not HD) even in mine also But gud thing was mine was not as heated as his may be because of Kernel or anything I dunno.. The main thing s battery shouldn get heated too much... But I dunno many ppl not having heating issue... S2 s so thin that heat has too dissipate thru somewhere so it uses the camera region... Try using the phone with low brightness it might be helpful also try KI4(correct me if i m wrong!!) modem. I din try that modem yet...

Try pulling the battery for 5 minutes to let it cool, then replace it. You can also try under clocking to 800 /1000 mhz to save some battery and not let it go to 1200mhz

Thanks very much for your replies plz note the below
* i'm a big fan of Siyah Kernel and i tried most of its versions giving me the same result.
* i tried to make the device lock itself on the max usage with 800 MHz
* the battery's Temp is about 35 C
* i remember that 2.3.5 was the only version that i have which is not having this issue.
* it seems that everyone tried something and it worked for him but everybody's something is not working with me.
* the overheat issue is in arc and arc s too
* the other issue that am living in Egypt and Temp pretty high.

i flashed the modem KH3 and nothing happens i did down clocking the processor and nothing happens
This phone is stupid sometimes. Just sat in my pocket for the last hour doing nothing.wifi off
The battery drops from 89% to 65%
I take the phone out and its super hot
Says 49 degrees which isnt dangerous but it is very noticable in the pocket and to hold. and the chart says the phone was awake through that whole time without the screen on.
As soon as I start using the phone again it starts to cool down.
Bit annoying how often this happens.
i never had this issue on gingerbread
is there a fix for it?
Install BetterBatteryStats and check which program causes the wakelock. While ago Google Chrome was known to create this issue.

Xperia S behaving strangely

Hi Guys,
My XS has been behaving strangely the past couple of weeks and I was wondering whether anyone had an idea as to why it might be.
I'm running STOCK Three UK .75 firmware, no root, no boot unlock.
1. When waking the screen up by pressing the power button I noticed that rather than my standard lock screen, I had the old X10 lock screen load up instead. I probably wouldn't have noticed had the clock not been so different to the Xperia S stock clock... but it shocked me since these were OLD software UI elements that must be on my XS somewhere, and something caused them to render rather than the current UI.
2. When swiping to a different home screen I've noticed the screen black out temporarily before continuing with the animation and loading the next home screen. I'm not a widget intensive user... I've got clock and google search on one screen, "tool" toggles and track ID on another, and accuweather on the third.
3. Facebook images flickering and sometimes staying greyed out. Wifi connection is strong so it's not a connectivity issue... it seems to be a graphical issue, as with the rest of the problems. Facebook news feed sometimes stays completely black, though the UI elements are rendered at the top perfectly.
4. General increased lag across the UI as a whole.
Rebooting hasn't helped... removing a number of apps I thought might be causing issues hasn't helped. Any idea what has happened to my XS all of a sudden?! Seems to me like whatever is rendering graphics is having a problem.
Is it likely to be firmware related or a problem with the graphics chip? Maybe a bad app? The official Three UK ICS is available to me if that might solve the problem?
Cheers.
Try a factory reset before upgrading.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Factory reset hasn't affected the symptoms at all. I'm wondering whether my gpu is struggling? Is there any way to test its performance?
All you can do is flash another firmware or update to ics,if the symptoms still there than you have to send it to service.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
I have also encounter the few problem as you have mentioned on .75 (generic uk)
But after upgarding to ics it has completely gone. Try upgrading it to ics, I'm sure that 3 have already rolled out ICS.

The first one is a common problem experienced in GB fw. Sony fixed it when they upgrade the fw to ICS.

maybe try running a benchmark app like antutu benchmark and see how your device compares to other using stock rom etc
Thanks guys.
I ran an Antutu Benchmark check and it came out at the same levels to other stock users so I guess there's nothing majorly wrong.
I'll flash ICS and be done with it I think.
Cheers again.
