Copy files to external SD card via USB Mass storage mode .
Do you see the files in Windows Explorer .
Probably you are that impatient you have copied the files to a wrong place .

no... cant see nothing! (except on PC)
Copy the files back to your PC (if you need to) and reformat it, making sure you do it as FAT32. Then copy the files back.
use your SGS2 to format the sdcard, this should settle problems with filesystem, cluster size, ... then try again. make a backup of your files before you format!
same happend to my 32gb class 4 sdhc card abd after 2 days it become dead, now it is not working any more. May be your card has the same problem that mine had. I bought it from ebay and it was local china made card. I claimed my money and got it back.
may be this would help you, do not consider that your card is also going to die, i just told you what happened to mine.
actually i got my microSD from my previous device-Nokia E72
it is a SDHC so it should fit the FAT32 system..no?

It's best to format it if you're having issues, especially with something like files appearing/not appearing on different devices.
As suggested by d3l1 above, use the phone to format it. If you still have problems then there are better formatting apps for your PC.

if there are still problems he should test the card and see if it's dying, happens from time to time.

if you can open it in your pc then its not dead yet.. may sure you are opening the correct folder for external card. The folder is in sdcard\ externalSd or something like that
did you try another card? there are so many possibilities as to what may be the problem.
i can see the folder SDCARD/external_SD
but inside i can only see LOST.dir and .android_secure, nothing else! but i did put some music in it!
me 2
same here formated the sdcard in my pc put in my phone then transfered music.phone couldnt see any files so formated sdcard in phone this time but when hooked it up to the pc the files were still there even though they had been formated.lol not sure what to do next.
Bought a 16gb Kingston class 4 sd card for my 3D, problem is after I moved all items over to the new card. I moved over some rom files to flash and when looking at the contents of the card they are not there. Neither are the back up files of my TWRP backups. Titanium backup files aren't there either.
When I run Titanium again thenfiles are there, but after a reboot they are gone again????
Any ideas?
Also getting issues when downloading Swiftkey X language packs. Get an error that says "unable to load language packs."
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks

Where did u get the micro sd card?
Sent from my super powered red wings evo 3d
I just bought a class 4 SanDisk 16gb card last night and so far haven't had any problems. I took the card out the phone, put it in the laptop and copied everything to a new folder then copied it all to the new card. My nand backup was all there cus I just flashed it back and everything restored. But i haven't done much else.
Sent from my double barrel Shooter. BANG!
Think I fixed it. Ended up wiping the card and wiping the phone also. I am a ROM Flashing fanatic so I needed more card capacity.
So I thought my sd card woes were gone. But, downloaded a few ROM's to try out on my PC. Transferred the files over to the phone via USB cable. While still connected to the phone I created a new folder and placed the ROM's into it to keep them more organized.
I went this morning to flash a new ROM as the one I was trying had an issue I did not like and now the ROM folder is gone. the LOST.DIR is at approx 1.3GB which to me would mean that the folder was moved there for some reason.
Also, when I try to restore my backup, the restore begins, but the phone then just goes black. Then have to pull battery. I am on TWRP Recovery.
Any ideas? I am assuming it is the new 16GB card I got, but any scans I do on it report no issues. Never had an issue with an sd card before.

unfortunately, i've only had two issues with sdcards and they have been far and few between, but devasting when they occur.
the most recognizable behavior of a poor or failing sdcard that i've experienced are missing or inconsistent (names changed, locations moved, etc) files. personally, i would return the sdcard as it definitely appears to be defective and ask for either an exchange or money back.
sorry that isnt a very good solution, but for a brand new sdcard out of the box to keep losing files, moving them, etc. that definitely would be a red flag in my opinion. hope that helps!
Sounds like a bad SD card to me, had the same issues. I guess thats what happends when you buy sd cards off craigslist. I returned the failing SD card got my money back then headed straight to Frys got myself a PNY 32gb SD card and problem solved
Hey guys, about a month ago i accidentally dropped my phone on my coffee table and it cracked my screen. I didn't notice any other damage. Now it won't read the SD card. It will try and mount it and then tell me I removed it or something. I'm running Cyanogen 2.3.3. Stable rom and I have a recent nandroid backup.
I would like to fix this without a restore, but I can restore if that'll fix it. I'm just hoping it's not a hardware problem.
As always, any and all (attempts to) help are greatly appreciated!
Are you using S2E or Darktremor apps2sd? (That wouldn't be the cause of the problem, but would change the way you'd troubleshoot it.)
I really don't know what either of those are. I use Titanium backup and the android app manager to move the apps.
k, just checking. I'd suggest trying with a different SD card if you have one to see if it works with that. If it does, then I'd try reformatting the original SD card to see if that gets it to work again. Just make sure you copy all the files off the SD card with a computer first, then copy them back after reformatting.
Okay it was my SD card. I've moved everything over to a 2GB card now. Problem is, I can't get anything to read my 8GB now. I tried formatting after I backed it up, but it failed during the format and now neither my computer nor my phone will read mount it. It's obviously corrupt. Is there any way to fix this? I can fit most of my stuff on my 2GB card, but I'd like to save the 8GB if possible...

Try this program: https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_3/
It has revived an SD card for me in the past. Hope it works for you.
okay I got the SD formatter. I've inserted the 8GB card using a working micro-SD to SD adapter in my card reader and the program recognized the drive and shows the correct size (7.39 GB). When I try and actually format the card, though, it says that either the drive, or the card is not supported by it. :\
I figured updating the drivers for my card reader would fix this, but I have no idea where to find them...
Some thing you might try:
1) Make sure the lock switch isn't engaged on the microSD to SD adapter. I had to tape the lock switch in the off position on my adapter to keep it from switching into the on position when I plugged it into my card reader.
2) Try formatting another SD card to see if it works.
I don't think you're going to find any new drivers for something as simple as a card reader.

There are many variations of that model... Go here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download and find your specific model, then download and install the card reader driver available/suitable for it.
So I have done searching and I have found some threads for different devices.
The issue I am having is that I flashed a new ROM and I wasn't able to save anything to it. I can view everything on the SD card just fine.
I pulled the card out and put it in a card reader and the card is write protected now.
I can still see the files perfectly fine.
I have a G2x.
Is the card really toast and there is no way to get the files off of it?? Or is there a way I can get the write protection off.
You can't copy files off the card to your computer? You said you were able to view them, so seems likely you should be able to copy them.

Yes, the issue is that the card is stuck in write protected mode and will not let me move, edit, or delete anything on the card.
Correct, but copying doesn't work too? I mentioned copy not move. I'm a bit confused because as far as I know, a write protected card should allow for copying files off it but not moving/editing/deleting.
Yup even copying from the SD card gives the error that it is read/write only.
Search Google for this issue. I'm sure there are ways to remove write protection. I just searched and found these links, though I didn't read through fully. Maybe they'll do the trick.

very confusing, if it's read/write only, then you should be able to read and write. i think the error message may be incorrect.
are you able to remove the card from the phone and put it into an adapter to put it directly into a pc?
I am having a similar issue as described above except mine is a little weirder. I don't believe there is anything wrong with the card itself but it shows up as write-protected when viewed from my phone. When viewed on a computer there is nothing wrong with it. I've verified the issue with a second sd card and experienced the same issue. It's a 64gb class ten formatted fat32.
maybe u need to format ur sd card

Does your phone support 64 gb sd cards ? May that is the reason why it is exhibiting error

Could you take a look at SD Card Permission Fixer on Google Play. It may help you.
Hello everyone! This is my first post in this forum but i've been using this forum for months now..
Anyone knows why my files are getting deleted randomly and placed in LOST.DIR? Files are still in their locations but their size is 0.0kb.
They somehow go to LOST.DIR and become unreadable. Is it a faulty Micro SD card or my Player 5?
My SGP 5.0 is using:
PARANOID ANDROID v2.57.4- March 07 Update
Mercurius v5 Kernel
This problem also happened on Stock GB ROM, anyone know what is happening? any help is much appreciated.

Google told me in 5 seconds time to,read this or many other similar threads.
http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-3/447049-lost-dir-what.html
This is not any related to our very good device, it is android behavior. (good anyway)
Thanks!
But Google didn't help. I know what LOST.DIR is for.
This doesn't happen only on startup, sometimes it's hours or days before files get deleted.
I also do the whole safety remove thing on my PC and SGP 5, and let it finish checking the mem card.
There's also nothing wrong with the files, my iPad and blackberry have the same files in them but don't get deleted.
I know the SGP 5 is a good device, i have one...
If it's android behavior, why is it wiping half my memory card's worth of files for no reason?

Try backing up your files and format
Sent from my YP-G70 using xda app-developers app
Already did that several times now but it still happens.
I've formatted my SD card, restored it to default, de-fragmented it, full factory reset my SGP 5. It still happens.
Maybe it is a faulty SD Card?
Also, this happened twice already, after copying files to my SD Card from my PC, safety removed it, my SGP said "broken sd card, please reformat", even my pc can't read the card...
It must be my sd card that's causing the problem and hopefully not my Player, what do you guys think?

Fine,
You may Check for some days with another ext Sd card to discriminate this case.
Do you have backup application running or some auto cleaning apk like "forever gone" starting at certain times?

No cleaning apps... I'll try with a different SD card... Thanks for the help.
It happens to me as well. I assume it has something to do with the Galaxy Player (or the SD Card). If it doesn't happen, the SD card randomly gets damaged.
so i bought a new SD card, a Kingston Class 10 32gb, using it for more than a week now and so far no file deletion. I think it's because i was using a cheap SD card, a TDK 32gb Class 2... if the problem happens again, it must be Android's check disk that's causing it.
