Alrighty, after searching through the forum with no success, here i am for suggestions/solutions
So my evo seems to only boot a small handful of roms. Currently its on Viper4g, previously it was cm 10.1 but that no longer boots. It does work with the stock basedsuperjelly rom.
Ive tried to flash Dirty Unicorn, Carbon unoffical, MIUI and some others but all of them dont even get to the boot screen. All of them either end up sitting at their own boot logo forever or dont even get past the HTC logo when first turned on
My TWRP is the latest(2.5), the roms are in no way corrupted, ive made sure of this. Ive wiped before every install, followed all directions etc.
Also Hboot is 1.19.0000
Whats the deal here? Can i not use roms above a certain android version? (Viper is 4.1, so is Superjelly)
I have no idea what could be causing it
All i know is i want to flash some different roms
Read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256478
The issue is that you need to install the kernel separately from the ROM when you are S-on when running Hboot 1.15 or newer. Many Sense ROM's include an S-on kernel installer to help facilitate ROM flashing.

Thank you sir, i appreciate the swift reply
Ill try it out
WEllP, I tried it the app way and it didnt work, in the process my backups magically broke and roms that worked didnt work. Luckily for thr second time, SuperJelly saved the day and booted after a flash. I hate to be stuck on superjelly (too stockish for me) but it looks like i have no choice.

Try going S-off. You won't encounter these issues and you can flash any rom you want practically.

This new app for sensation/e3d etc. got me thinking. It is for devices that have S-ON but are unlocked. I believe I can fix all of our boot image installing woes with the process this app outlined. Once I finish my physics homework, I am going to get some scripts cooking and I think we can have roms install the boot images from recovery.

What I don't get is why the devs can't just agree en masse which mainver they're going to use, and then everyone uses that version.
Well they shouldn't use one higher than the RUUs we have so we can restore if necessary. I have had to RUU before because I corrupted my cache partition once.
But some devs used the ICS leak mainver and some people were idiots and installed the leak before it was ready and got their mainvers higher than what we have RUUs for.

That's one of the reasons I wait a day or so to flash a new ROM if it just getting released. I always wait to see what the problems are first.
I just check it first and replace the android-info as needed. I am still on the 1.x mainver because I am careful and I was one of the first to flash the ICS leaks

This will be great once you get it running.
I'm curious what the reason is that you want to remain on 1.x when the official update brought the phone to 2.x? I'm on 2.x but running a ROM from 1.x even though they just came out with an update for 2.x because I want to keep the red theme made for it.
Btw... the dsb kernel was installed in recovery, like the AnthraX one is. Flashed a zip in recovery that made the PHzip that flashed as an update. Is this different than that?
I haven't flashed the new radios and stuff.

It isn't that crazy or that dangerous. I have flashed my misc a few times when I was seeing if I could hex edit the CID to HTC__001 instead of VZW__001 which would have allowed HTC dev unlock before we got their blessing.
I have s-off, what can i do now. Was it only to get the *locked* back?
One big deal for a lot of people is that you will be able to make and restore nandroid backups without having to seperately go into hboot and flash the kernel (boot.img) for what you're restoring.
Also people want to be able to download and flash roms in a single file and installation process. Once devs begin packaging them for s off, you won't do the old two file method of rom in recovery followed by PH98IMG.zip in hboot.
Everything will be included in recovery.
And to me the big deal is that you can flash the latest ice cream sandwich radio firmware by flashing the RUU, and whenever you want you can how back to the gingerbread radio firmware and gingerbread roms. As opposed go how its always been where once you upgraded there was no going back for radio firmware.
Also people will tell you that's the reason that we don't have a lot more developers on our device is because of s off. I personally think that's wishful thinking, and the user base is a reason a lot of devs walked away, but I'm passing along the information since its posted constantly that once s off is achieved there will be a line of devs a half mile long begging to get to the rezound.

Quick question, Charlie. I came from the Dinc and am used to backup/restore including the kernels. If I were to do a backup right now(already did), after being s-off, will it include the kernel? Or, does something in the process need to be modified before the kernel is included in the backup? I have a feeling it will be included right off the bat, but just curious.

Backups done by amon ra included the kernel you just couldn't restore it without con's nandroid helper. So when you go to backup and it lets you select what to backup, make sure boot has an x next to it.

Does S-Off mean we have a better chance of getting RIL working on AOSP possibly? I think I kept reading that AOSP wasn't ever going to be possibly until we got S-Off.
Also how the hell did we get S-Off? Did HTC release it, or did someone find a bootleg way to get S-Off with their own research? I was on XDA like a day or two ago before S-Off was ever mentioned then all the sudden we have it.

Some guys advocate that AOSP devs will flock back to the rezound if we have s off.
We got s off because some developers from a completely different device put in a crapload of time and effort in order to figure out the exploit and then test it on our devices.

This is my main reason. My Rezound loves the radios and Incredikernel. So I did a mixture of the 3, s-0ff, ics firmware, & Ineffabilis. Also just re-packed a GB rom that included kernel boot.img flashing and it worked BEAUTIFULLY. No PH98IMG flashing done at all.
Also, can always go back to Rezrom Ex 3.4 via nandroid without issue.
Does anyone know if we will be able to get the mount points changed for sdcard and sdcard2? I know recovery reads the actual sdcard, but for apps backing up data, it all goes to the internal "sdcard". More than once have I gotten in a rush and forgot to backup my internal sdcard. just hoping we can get that changed around.
Someone should know this

This process is DEAD SIMPLE ... Just time consuming if you can't get the "wire Trick" timing down.
All devices are different. All I can suggest is READ ... READ ... READ
Since you don't really even know what you want to do ... S-Off can wait. Then maybe a different s-off process may be available when you DO need it. I doubt it will be "easier" though.

Have you set up 4ext to know that you are s-on? I thought since that option is there, there is no need to flash a kernel separately? I'm not to sure as I am not s-on. And I don't think there is another kernel right now. but most ICS roms run best on the stock kernel for now.

No I have not, I've been unlocked since the beginning. I know the downgrade method is fairly easy now, but still tricky. The Juopunutbear I hear doesn't require you to downgrade. So I'm not sure, just read up on both threads and see which you are more comfortable with. If you don't want to, I'm sure someone else will chime in and give more advice on your current problem.
I've tried the hboot downgrade and its was so much easier than I'd expected. After finding the right files for my phone, the whole process took me about 20 mins. Hardest part was pricking the phone LOL. After that it was just load closeones's toolkit, and it pretty much does the rest of the work for u. Just read the guide 4x and watch some YouTube view beforehand.
I did a lot of reading and read 1000x diff guides on how to flash and used so many diff flash method to het my phone out of bootloop. So by the time I got fed up and decided to downgrade, i had some decent flashing experience.

(scary as hell at first) and it was actually very simple. And i say first because we had only seen a few who had officially posted about it i could be wrong lol my laptop if dual booted with Linux so all i did was set up my other computer and ran the first set on that one, then ran the linux part on my alienware. The worse you can do is brick it- but then again thats what you want. I accidentally upgraded my firmware and now im 1.5 S-OFF lol doesnt bug me at all but my wife's 1.4 S-OFF as soon as mine was done. just read, read, READ before you attempt it and make sure you have every code written down or copied and its cake man! no shame in trying

Were you previously running gingerbread? If so, you'd need to flash the latest T-Mobile ICS RUU before attempting to install any ICS-Based ROMs
A tool has been made that will flash the latest T-Mobile ICS RUU, and it can be found here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762936

After flashing the RUU with the tool, you should now be able to flash ICS roms without issues/errors.

He lost all partitions so it wouldn't boot.... sent it back to HTC and they fixed it and it broke again. Lol... then he released another alpha ics wip and vanished. Good to see their site is doing well

Hi can u help me? I have HTC EVO 3d gsm ,its unlocked but s on..I want to install viper3d Rom.. but do I have to get s off first if I'm using 4ext recovery?
Viper and S-on/off
No viper should work with s-on, you might have to flash the boot.img in fastbootusb to get wifi and or radio to work
I am s-on hboot 1.53.0007 and havent had any problems with Viper, worked like a charm without the need to fastboot, just activated smartflash in 4ext tools. Only thing I have to take in account is that on my hboot cm, aokp, etc do not work, only sense bases and apparently miui

You need to get your phone S-OFF my man, it's quite simple. It seems like it's a complicating process but the process is just, going back to stock by flashing latest RUU for your carrier, running the ControlBear.exe, waiting for it to tell you to do the wire trick, and just doing it. You might mess it up, I know I did. Might take you 1 time, might take you 5, might take you 19 (in my case), but all in all, you're most likely going to get it. And it's 100% worth it.

You also need to do the htcdev.com bootloader unlock after flashing the RUU. That step is kind of important.

I know guys, but flashing the ruu failed in my case every time, even though i am 100% sure it was the correct ruu. Also, wire trick requires 32bit operating system and i have win 7 64bit, and i have waaay too much sensitive data on my laptop to afford bothering with an os reinstall just for this, to be honest. Ok, this means no JB and no roms other than sense, but I am rather ok with that. Maybe one day I will, but right now i feel too lazy to install new os, set it up, flash ruu, reunlock, reroot, s-off and then reinstall 64bit os again so i can continue my work as i should...
