"Super Clean Wipe" or something like that - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi people.....w/o long disortation...
Isnt somewhere out there a super clean wipe... (not odin) that some devs suggest that we use b4 flashing. ..just to get a clean slate....
I believe I need that...bc I am using a rom ported from an international rom...and gps is speculative. I basically dont have gps lock (it locks and then somehow it looses its lock..and through some marvelous people helping we think I am not getting a complete wipe...via twrp... (tried everything)...so thats why I am asking for this "super clean wipe" or something like that. ..
I know there was one for the Verizon Gnex

Use FasterGPS to change the gps.conf back to the US. It is fairly straightforward to use, just give it root privileges then:
1. Under continent select North America
2. Once you select continent the Region box will become selectable, you need to choose United States.
It will show a toast message that says the GPS.conf was written successfully, then you just need to load Maps up and it should lock on quickly without losing the signal.
If that doesn't work just post back and I will give you something else to try because AFAIK the Super, Mega, and whatever the hell wipes aren't recommended for this phone and if I am remembering correctly they caused soft bricking on our phones that was a ***** to fix. While this wipes have most likely been fixed I wouldn't bother with them, if you want to do a wipe because what I told you to do doesn't work then you just need to boot into TWRP, click wipe, click the box on the right side (I think its format data or something but I can't remember off the top of my head), type yes, click go and then reflash whatever you want. At least try FasterGPS first, that works most of the time on International Roms.

Well it might just be time to sell the wife and children, if you want I may know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy. Just kidding.
I saw you in the Moon ROM thread, did you flash the AOSP GPS fix I linked there? It's for AOSP but I used it on CR and it fixed the issues I had there.

With this fix you don't have to push anything at all, just boot into recovery and flash it like you would a ROM. Don't bother wiping anything with this fix, just flash it.
http://db.tt/9E3aMJxS
Also pushing files isn't that bad when you use something like Root Explorer, all you have to do is copy and paste it to wherever it needs to be. If you have to fix the permissions after pushing it you just have to long press and change them, it will load a little box with all the permissions and all you have to do is check the ones needed.

What the hell? There was a report of that in the thread in General but I figured it was bogus because the person would never ever reply and every single ROM I have tried it on, TW included, it either fixed or did nothing.
When you restore your nandroid does your GPS go back to the normal non working state?
Something else you could try, that i just thought of when replying to someone in the VRB thread, is making a nandroid of a TW ROM, that you got a strong GPS lock for at least 5 minutes, on your internal SD and then try either reflashing Moon or restoring a nandroid of it. I would probably just reflash it to have a clean slate but I would also understand if you didn't want to have to go through setting it up again.
That probably won't work but I know on my S3 I had to have a working backup on my internal or else GPS refused to work at all, on my Note 2 I have to reflash the fix I linked above if I forget and wipe my nandroid before establishing a lock.
Also are you trying to get a GPS lock with or without the Wireless network setting on? I know on AOSP having the WiFi and Mobile network location setting checked in addition to the regular GPS location it would refuse to even turn the GPS on. You had to have the wireless location setting off before you could get your GPS to work, while this isn't AOSP it could be a shared bug and is worth testing out.

For my Thunderbolt there was a file called "SuperWipe" that was essentially a blank file system that you could flash to your phone to quickly clear EVERYTHING.
I have not seen anything like that for the Note II yet.

It was released right after the phone came out. I want to say it was released in the N7105 forums, it could have been AT&T though, and there were some serious issues it was causing in all the Note 2's. It was supposed to have been worked on but I haven't heard anything since then and honestly wouldn't use it after all the corruption issues that arose from it.

That is the way i have always done it, on CleanROM ACE 4.9, Vanilla Rootbox, and all the other miscellaneous TW and AOSP ROMs I've used it on. It is made for AOSP but didn't hurt any of the TW ROMs I've rested it on.
If it completely got rid of your GPS when you tested it before though it may just not be a good idea to use it on Moon.
When you're testing GPS do you always have the WiFi and Mobile Network Location seeing under Location Settings checked? I know on AOSP for a while you couldn't use that setting at all and then on some TW ROMs you had to use it to get your first lock and after that you could get away with not having it enabled.
I would just flash Moon ROM and see if you can get a lock. Try it after creating a nandroid of a TW ROM that has working GPS on your internal storage, on my S3 the only way I could get a lock on any ROM was to keep a nandroid with working GPS on my internal SD card.

problem with system apps force closing after restoring from backup

hey, to make a long story short since i'm sure you don't wanna have to read a whole page,
this my first Android phone coming from iPhone. I had originally gotten the skyrocket, but after getting throttled the second day and wanting to be able to customize and reading the i777 is the superior device, I decided to swap back to the i777 yesterday.
I had the skyrocket rooted and used titanium backup to backup my apps and system data. so I rooted this phone and tried to restore ask the apps and system data. everything at first looked like a perfect switch, but now I found problems. so far from what I've found, when I try to change ringtones using Android system the phone freezes and then it said that it had to force close.
the purge problem is the alarms, when I try to edit one or create a new one, it freezes again and force closes.
does anyone know a way to make it work while keeping all my apps and not having to start from scratch again? I'd be fine with having to redo all the settings and options if I have to
thanks for any help

TiBu has an option for only "missing apps and data" when restoring - this is the only safe option (in rare cases even it fails, but it's rare).
There's also an experimental "system data migration" option in TiBu that's off by default - I've never used it, and be warned that it may not work at all when trying to change to a completely different device.
ok, so you're saying
instead of doing the "restore apps plus system data", do the "restore missing apps with data"?

This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes newbies to get flamed. This is NOT the Help Desk. No one is paid to help you in here. We expect you to FIND help for yourself by reading and when no help can be found, THEN post. Laziness is not to be rewarded. Anyone familiar with TiBU knows that you should almost never restore system data with it because it will cause problems except in specific situations. Had you done a little searching and reading you would have likely come across this info as it is well documented in here. Be thankful Entropy took pity on you and gave you the right answer despite your laziness.

My attitude is fine. TiBU is one of THE most used apps on Android phones and by users in here and if you're saying you searched and did not find an answer about this then I say you're full of it. Like I said, be thankful Entropy helped you out because more often than not he feels the same way about this kind of thing. Redundant threads clog up the forums and it is always better to post to an existing related thread than to start a new one. All members should keep that in mind before hitting the Submit button.

If you're on a stock ROM I believe superuser will be wiped. So, you'll have to re-root. If you're on a custom ROM and do a factory reset, root should remain intact.
All he has to do is really wipe and install the rom he was using. Just do as they said with titanium backup and you'll be fine.

Ya, I did a factory rest and my root ended up staying on the phone and I was able to restore everything and
Have no problem. Thanks for your help guys. This is my first Android after coming from an iPhone for 4 years. Its so much better.

AOKP 24MAR2012 Virus?

Anyone else have an issue with this Rom downloading itself onto your phone? The exact version is AOKP_24MAR2012_i777r1. I downloaded it a while back to test, then uninstalled and went to another Rom. Ever since then I get these random downloads that start redownloading that Rom again onto my phone. I cannot cancel it or anything. I have to pull the battery or let it download, then delete it. WTF?

I've seen something similar to this. Which browser was the download on? Get to downloads (in the stock GB browser, it's menu > more > downloads; maybe it's similar for ICS) and delete it from the list. Or, clear data of the offending browser.
I dont see the rom anywhere on internal or external (now that I deleted it again) I did have Rom Manager at one point. I didnt use it at all for Rom installing, only to occassionally use it to boot into CWM because the current rom I had did not have the extended power menus, like Recovery.
The other weird thing is an app called Rom Factory that seems to come from nowhere too, installed on my phone. I know for a fact I have never downloaded that app.
ROM Factory used to be called something else...can't remember right now...
Edit: Fruitcake Maker
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
The other weird thing si that this is even a different rom than when it downloaded on me last time. So its not really something in the current rom Im running, as far as I know. I did have fruit cake maker before...
Every time I download something, this rom starts downloading again. Does anyone have any ideas? If I didnt have an unlimited data plan, I'd be really pssd!
What browser are you using? Did you try wiping the data as someone else suggested? I want to say I've had similar experience on GB after restoring the browser through TiBu. What happens if you just sit back and let it finish?

I've had this problem of downloads restarting and it was definitely the browser. I think the browser started the downloads on separate tabs and I never closed those tabs, so every time the browser opened, the downloads restarted.
Hmm, thanks for the info. However I always use Dolphin HD. I have used several different Launchers, not sure that would make a difference?

[Q] BroadcomMEMsService crashing

Hi,
After I have upgraded my Galaxy S3 firmware to the latest official firmware upgrade from Samsung and root it, intermittenly I have the pop box saying that BroadcomMEMsService has stopped.
This has happened quite frequently and it become quite annoying because before the message comes out the phone will freeze for a short time.
Anybody has same experience and how to solve it?
Cheers

I have the same problem on a rooted S3.
But I do not see any reasson why this should happen on a stock rom with root permissions. So I do not factory reset it but wiped the caches - no effect.
The problem only appears if mobile data connection is deactivated. I think it should be a problem with some service that needs agps service e.g.
Letting mobile data connection enabled is a solution for the next weeks but not a good option.
I have noted the almost same thing but it happens when the data connection change from G - 3G - H - H+... Btw my data connection is always on... still looking for solution..

I would try it but sadly I have not enough time for playing arround with resets and restores without being sure that it helps. Thats why I prefer to know the reason first before I begin...
And there are a view people on the net who commented that only disabling specific apps which are in need of agps (e.g.weather widget) had lead to success...

Stock screen off animation

I just noticed this a few days ago, and it's not a huge deal but I figured I'd ask anyway. I'm currently on The Base 0.7.3, and recently I don't get the stock "iris closing" screen off animation anymore. The screen just blanks out when I turn it off.
I noticed this after I flashed the different 4.2.2 ROMs in the original dev section. After flashing those I restored a backup, which is what I'm using now. After finding the loss of the screen off animation, I've since re-restored the backup, doing a factory reset, wiping cache and dalvik, but nothing works. I guess something must have messed up with my backup, although everything else is perfectly fine. I suppose I could do a clean install of The Base, but I first wanted to find out if anyone else knew what might cause this, or if I could just flash or load some stock file to get it working again. Thanks.

its an animation file in the media folder insiide systems though i am not sure which one
one is like the bootanimation file and theres another one....maybe that is your answer
but still i m not 100% sure about it
placing that file in a rom can help
Also check to make sure window animation in developer options is set to 1. I think any other option stops the screen off animation.

You can look for it in system/media as suggested above but not likely.
Typically it is the framework.res.apk - you would have to decompile, edit, and recompile the apk.
Here is a how-to (have not tried this) YMMV

I think many of us would be very grateful if someone made that animation available as a zip that could be used with any ROM. I know I'd be willing to buy a beer for someone who does.

[Q] Searching for GPS no matter what ROM I try...

Hello XDA community,
Unfortunately I seem to be having a problem with my GPS, I travel a lot so this has become a pain. I have tried flashing custom ROMS but nothing seems to change. I used @Adam's method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2272066 to unlock the bootloader. If I could be guided to a solution I would appreciate it!
Maps won't lock on, with "Searching for GPS..." displaying on the bottom.
I ran Faster Fix with North America Region and nothing happened.
I also downloaded GPS Status and reset / downloaded my A-GPS Status
Try this:
"Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
Then
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top slide bar
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service or disable it all together if you have the option
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market if your phone auto updates after you reboot that's ok, my note 2 auto updated maps and my gps worked fine
That's it your GPS should be working now"

these gps threads are getting out of control we need to make an official gps fix thread no offense op i know you are having issues but a actual guide on how to fix this stuff would be a good alternative to getting tons of threads posted daily

Thanks for the help, I am going to try the suggested methods. I used the search but I wasn't sure if the sprint methods I found would work on my vzn.

I've had the same issue. My searching for GPS lock sign would not even turn on with Jedi rom. And with cleanrom, the gps lock sign would come online but it would not lock. I tried the jellybeans rom, and finally it worked. One thing i've found different with the jellybeans rom against the others were that if you go to location settings, you can see the VZW location option, whereas for the other two it wasn't there. I don't have this option checked by the way.
Just giving you my 2 cents based on my experience. Maybe it could fix your problem if you install jellybeans rom and then follow the instructions suggested by the other guys here.
Have you tried Pimp my rom and replaced the GPS files with it?
Also you need to go in Settings, under accounts click your Google account, go to location access and make sure it is turned on for your phone. I have flashed roms before and done everything except check that and for some reason it should then on when you turn on your Location and Google search under GPS but it occasionally won't on the first lock on some roms.

Every time this happens to me I just boot into recovery and wipe internal storage and this fixes the problem. Beware, you lose your internal storage so backup any important files to an external sd card.

Replaced the ROM with a different one and now GPS is fine, I'm sure what I did above affected it.
Now I only have 3g, uh oh!

Edit: Service is okay.
This happened though...

Once I updated Play services the issue returned...
Do I have to decide to use GPS or Hangouts? All I wanted was to get rid of touchwiz!

When you updated Play services what issue returned? The GPS not working?
If you don't want to use Hangouts you shouldn't have to.....

I managed to get my hangouts to work but that broke the GPS again...I'm using AOKP.
Google Voice also causes a crash, this is getting frustrating I only want vanilla!

It may just be an issue with Hangouts, however I would lean more toward a AOKP issue. You could download GPSTest to replace the to replace the AGPS data..... It may just be a AOSP bug with Hangouts, however this js the first I'm hearing of it.
