Okay, so I was messing around with apk manager and I decompiled one of my CM7 themes. I noticed... and just wanted to ask. If I decompile the framework-res.apk then add the res folder from my theme, will my rom look like my theme?

Can I create a theme by just redesigning the original graphic files of one of the themes already included in the rom or this process is more complicated.

yes you can.
its quite easy as long as you remember to edit files that wont effect the UI, use pngs with the same resolution, and dont mess with xml files lol if you dont have to... other than that its pretty much jus copy and pasting pngs from one theme to another... good luck btw sense based roms use the framework-res.apk and htc.resources.apk... and CM based roms use the framework-res.apk and the systemUI.apk if this helps
is there a program to custom themes already made.
I just read the posts and wanted to know if there was a program that can do what you guys are talking about. I would like to make my own themes with themes made by other people. If the is no program then where would one start. Thx in advanced.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone knew where the res folder is in the system? I am trying to compile my own custom theme for the theme chooser in Gingerbread, and I need to access some of the files in the system default theme.

well there are alot of res folders in a rom. Every apk has one. The one you are probably looking for is under system/framework/framework-res.apk....open that apk and you will see the res folder with the drawable folders in it that have most of the png's for the default theme.

As Conap stated most of the images are in framework-res but there is also a good amount that you will want to change in system/app/SystemUI.apk. This is the default Theme Chooser apk and where a lot of the images that you won't find in framework but will probably want to change can be found.
I'm trying to change the status/top bar of a CM7 theme using UOT Kitchen. The first time I ever attempted this was last night. Followed the instructions step by step; everything was good. But when I flashed it, nothing changed.
My question is, when uploading files to UOT it says for GB Rom's upload the framework and system apk. For CM7 Roms just upload the theme apk i.e. Cyanbread. Seeing how CM7 is GB thats where I'm confused. Should I upload just the theme apk or the framework and system apks? Or should I upload them all?

I read somewhere else that UOT might not be updated yet for 2.3.5 Gingerbread like the latest AOSP roms are running.

I only theme out my framework-res.apk and my SystemUI.apk. The SystemUI.apk is the stock look that you get on Gingerbread without any modifications. If you unzip if with 7zip you'll see what I mean. I've never flashed it into a live/booted rom. I modify my files pngs mostly and let the kitchen do the hard work (the files I still don't understand), then replace the SystemUI.apk and the framework-res.apk into the CMupdate.zip file. There is probably a more preferable way to do it, but I don't switch themes a lot (and the theme chooser doesn't theme everything I need anyway)
I know this way will work as I've gotten my edits into these today/yesterday

Thanks for the input.
Thank to Crysis21 for his awesome SensatioN ROM port to our ATT SGS2!
I have modified some of the graphics to appease my visual needs on my phone. So if any of you are interested, here are the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk with modified icons and such...
Go into Recovery and Nandroid first!!!
Then while in recovery, adb push the framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk.
That's it.
Edit: Framework-res.apk and SystemUI.apk is in the second post.
here are the files
I had to zip them up... you can use winrar or 7-zip to extract the two .apk files
Any Idea when we'll be able to add the sensation theme to custom or stock roms?
Nope. That's not my work. you'll have to ask Crysis21. Check the SensatioN ROM thread...
Is it possible to edit a CM7 theme ?
I've been using this Win7 theme and i've got 2 minor problems
1)Is it possible to change the status car in this theme ?
Ie make the pull down men in status bar semi transparent or transparent ?
2)There's any way to edit only a few aspects of this theme ? By replacing parts of another CM7 theme
Noob question i know ^

And mod i wasnt quite sure where i should've posted this, so i thought General would be fine
Man do we need an Neo/Neo V Q&A
just decompile the framework and systemUI etc...edit the 9.png files as your liking or just replace them with the images of choice from other theme...for transparency in status bar...i think UOT kitchen may help.
by the way...i am not an expert and dont know much about CM themes...ha ha ha...i have just edited stock themes for my liking...and i dont decompile them...just unzip them and rezip after editing.
