thank you guys! - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hey,
I am using xda-developers now since more than 10 years. Got thousands of answers for bricked XDA`s and other smartphones in the beginning. I own a GSM technology company so I am always getting in touch with the newest and best devices. I were looking for powerful smartphones, but tiny please, that it will fit in my hands and pocket since the first day of the modern smartphone. I used exotic phones like the Neonode N1 who fulfilled my wishes, but I finally felt in love with 2011 Xperia MDPI phones. Since this day, I am using this subforums at XDA daily and changing my ROM on my Mango several times a week.
The Mango is perfect for me! It’s tiny, so it will not bother me if I am outdoors, it fits in my hands and pants, so I can wear it everywhere, without having a 6” brick with me. It haves a full keyboard – I still don’t like Touchscreen solutions for typing dozens of mails per day. And last but not least, it’s still a powerful android smartphone.
At the beginning of this year, I felt the first time, that the time for Xperia 2011 phones is over, since Apps like Facebook getting really hungry for RAM but all you great developer made a step forward again with 4.2.2- unbelievable…
2011 Xperia are out of the market now, to avoid mine is getting broken, so I finally need to change to a boring S4 Galaxy, I bought a lot of Xperias and spare parts now, so I am on the safe side for lifetime
I own now:
1x Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro – custom ICS
1x Sony Ericsson Xperia mini Pro white- full stock ICS
1x Sony Ericsson Xperia mini Pro black- extended CM10
1x Sony Ericsson Xperia mini Pro white- HavenDroid XS CM10.1
1x Sony Ericsson Xperia mini white- JellyVanilla EX3.1 CM10.1
I am telling you this story to say people who are addicted in a same way: you are not alone and to say a big THANKYOU to all of the awesome developers out there…

seems legit! lol, i wish i had money to buy spare phones like you do. and youre a certified Xperia MDPI addict now. :highfive:

U R AWESOME, dude!!

Going from G2 to Xperia Mini Pro

I have had the G2 for well over a year now and recently felt the need for a change. In my opinion the G2 is one of the best physical keyboard phones of its day; the next phone had some big shoes to fill.
Physical keyboard either slide or candy bar style
GSM based
Hspa speeds
Android 2.3 or later
Decent battery life
Not too big
Faster processor than the G2
After searching diligently for the right fit it came down to these two phones:
Motorola pro plus - candy bar style
Larger body
Bigger battery
1Ghz processor
HSPA
Xperia mini pro - slider style
Compact design
Front facing camera
1Ghz processor
HSPA
The reviews for the Motorola Pro plus on youtube were pretty good but not overwhelmingly so.
The Xperia mini pro had a bit more reviews and seemed to hold up well for different types of users.
So i ordered the Xperia mini pro and can say that i am not disappointed. The size and speed of this phone are what set it apart in the physical qwerty domain. The user interface that Sony has layed on top on Android is quite impressive and very intuitive. If your thinking of getting a new qwerty do not hesitate with this one.

Hei Hermetics
Glad you buy a Mini Pro , but as i can see in your Signature, you owne a NEW mini pro from 2011 (sk17a). This is the Forum for the first mini pro from 2010. (u20). Search for the xperia mini, mini pro,Active,Ray Forum.

Even if its the wrong forum, its a good review (short one).
Actually i'm thinking of getting the Xperia Ray when the price goes down a bit
@Hermetics: Have fun with your new phone!

[Q] Moving on from x10 - S2 or P?

Hi all,
I have a dilemma. The situation is like this:
I can get the Xperia P for 240 Euro (new). Or i can get the Galaxy S2 for 260 Euro (used - not more than 6 months).
I owned an x10 since it was released so i don't change phones much. The same will be with the next one.
Which one would you get if you had this options considering it will be used for a long time (lets say next 3 years).
Thanks for all you inputs

SGS2 is old device. However it has better soc than xperia p, bigger screen size but smaller res, it has card slot and xperia p don't. Screen on xperia p is gorgeous, xperia p is better looking device in my opinion. Cam is allmost the same, both takes full hd videos. If battery life is matter to you buy SGS2, if not xperia p is better choice.

S2 for sure
JB is incoming for S2 as S3 was updated yesterday and development is much better than P
Remember S2 is still a beast!

it should be S2 then since it matters a lot to me how long talk time is
i forgot to check that part
why the hell does the "P" have such a small battery?
I raise my vote to S2.

Hey men, no doubt about the xperia P, but check by yourself
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=4436&idPhone2=3621
simply the fact that you cant put a sdcard in xperia p is bad
I personally love sony phones, but the 2011s (s, p, u) are soo ugly in my eyes... While samsung builds phones in simple design, finally simplicity is style (in my eyes)....
otherwise is the samsung s2 older, means that there are more users and more progress in developing.
The hardware is not that different, let me end with the software: sonys UI is simple and stylish, I love the xperia s launcher, i dont need timesccape or facebook inside xperia and bravia engine doenst make a big different in my eyes... Touchwiz is too colourful for me
But I would probably just flash a custom Rom (MIUI is very sexy) and so i finally can say that I would choose The Samsung galaxy S2.
Or one of the really new phones in "arc" style (T, J and V), because they are ultimate style (in my eyes)

Lost my Xperia S, What would other Xperia S owners would get as replacement?

Hey fellow Xperia S owners / Sony Android phone owners.
Last Friday night I lost my beloved Xperia S, and I'm still suffering.. I know the Sony Xperia S is not perfect by any means but I loved mine. I loved the looks with the transparent antenna strip, I loved the HDMI connection separate from the USB connection (Charging while Viewing Netflix for ex.) and even though I had a small show of yellow tint issue, it was not something that bothered me at all. I also loved the fact that is not a common phone (I'm yet to find someone else in person with one). Last but not least I had also familiarized with the phone, it's firmwares, ICS running fine finally, and this xda-developers Xperia S Forum of course.
So right now I'm stuck with the Phone I was given for free from my Carrier, an LG Optimus L5 (crappy phone), even though it has ICS, it's so inferior that it only makes me miss my Xperia S even more
Ok so I need to get me a new phone, and I can say I rather have another Sony phone, so I see that there are already a few models that are coming out soon: Xperia T (Flagship, Skinny Design) and Xperia V(Love the Water-resistant aspect, but Lacks on Front Camera Resolution) , but Like I've said before I really loved the Transparent Antenna Strip, and loved having the Illumination Bar App which would Blink Fast for a Missed Call, or Slow for a new SMS; So I'm also aware of the existence of the Sony Xperia SL (Overclocked CPU to 1.7Ghz compared to the 1.5Ghz on the Xperia S but still an S3 vs The S4 on the newer models T and V), but I can't find any reviews or benchmarks of the Xperia SL making it even harder for me to decide.
So that is the situation, I would like to know what other fellow XDA members would do in my case and/or what are the recommendations.
Sony Xperia T
Sony Xperia V
Sony Xperia SL
Sony Xperia S
Other ?
How do you lost it? I can't see someone losing a phone lol. But that doesn't matter. I'd pick up the Xperia T
"I got my values. So you can keep yours, OK?"
He probably misplaced it and cannot for the life of him recall where he might have left it. I've done that with an MP3 player or two.
I'd get another S. If the V becomes available by the time you make your decision (and it's reasonably priced), consider the V.
I don't even want think about it but I got really f*cked up in party @ a club on Friday and I sat on a couch and had the phone on my lap and I guess I just dropped it on the floor when I leaned to the side to throw up :banghead: .. so there you go, that's what happened
I would like to know if the CPU running at 1.7GHz on the Xperia SL helps on making the ICS OS smoother without hiccups and makes the phone more responsive, and also if the speed bump drains the battery a lot faster than the Xperia S. But I can't find any info on it

On, I see. That's bad... I really don't know... I guess the performance will be slightly better, but dunno about battery
Enviado de meu Xperia S usando o Tapatalk 2
Motorola Razr HD: good and solid design, big battery, skin close to stock Android.
Nokia Lumia 920: beautiful unique design, good camera, cool new technologies (IMO most are gimmick but you may think differently), good screen.
iPhone5: beautiful beautiful beautiful and classy design (I really cant get enough of how pretty it is), good screen, good camera.
Honestly if I had the money I'd buy all of them
you know what i would go for the xperia T. having SL is like and S with overclocked cpu, nevermind the transparent strip, go fot the T its an S4 krait .
Xperia SL in silver...prettiest one among the bunch
Xperia T
I would go for the Xperia T or TX if you have to upgrade soon. The device looks very solid, and Sony has learned from the S.
If the V is available to you and the price is right, that's my second pick.
If I lost my Xperia, I would get a galaxy s (the original one) root and flash jb, change the battery, my wife has that now, easy 2 days with daily use (she uses it for work). Would be a good backup for when ur looking for another phone cheap as well, if u lose phones a lot has a nice screen and light

In the future, unless you're loaded and can afford to buy a new phone every few months, install something like Cerberus anti-theft on it. You have a high chance of finding it.

I suggest Xperia SL... But if you want a waterproofed version of the Xperia S + extended memory... Get Xperia Acro S.... I tried 64GB micro SD on my Acro S and it still works like a charm... With root. Haha 32gb external memory cap under sony acro s is FULSE!

when i would care about price/performance ratio it would be again the xperia s ...
when i don't care about that and i'd like a high end device it would be the xperia v
I would probably buy a P if I lost mine

get the T, end of the story really.
Depends on your demand of usage. Though i'll get the new Xperia T. Bond is the game lol nah seriously! it beats S3 n HTC on some serious level plus i have my faith on the new gen snapdragon chipsets & surely the battery can always be tweaked! my Xperia S runs for about 16-17hrs with normal usage so Mr.T can run longer or even perform better and definitely faster! Else, i will wait for the announced S4 PRO LG optimus G (Quads+2150mAh battery) but then again, i never actually liked the way LG looks. Xperia is the beauty with brain
or u could ship the TX from China , It dosent have that illumination bar but the XPERIA LOGO GLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHITE
like ur s
Consider HOX tegra variant mate, i flash it with Renovate rom and never look back.

Why would you sell your Xperia Device ???

Hello,
I sold my Xperia after some time and I can tell you the Bravia Engine and little customisation from Sony is great. The feel of phone in your hand is also good. Also, the xperia U/P/Go/Sola/ other devices are very good gadgets and they have enough support from developers. The LED bar in Xperia U is truely awesome and it could change colours just made it epic. If you are go for looks and beauty, certainly these devices are for you. Performance is good usually but not good enough in some case. (the price is not too high)
What are the factors that disappoint you ?
I will tell you mine what I can think of:
*Usually no expandable memory and in some case, battery is fixed.
*Bugs in ICS with no real support from Sony on these devices
*Bad battery life although I turned off the LED bar and used it with zero brightness. Still couldnot last more than a day on average use.
*My charger started to take long time to charge and it was quicker to charge via USB cable. In the beginning the charge time was epic. Just about an hour to charge it fully.
*NO SUPPORT FROM SONY AND UPDATES COME VERY VERY LATE AND DEVICES ARE ONLY SUPPORTED FOR MONTHS.
*NOT REAL LOUD SOUND
UPDATE :
I bought another Xperia
You forgot Xperia sola
Because of ICS laggy update, no support of Sony, no jelly bean update for Sony xperia u and poor service
im currently using xperia sola for about a year. ive tried a couple other xperia phones '12 like u, p, s, j and sony didnt good that much of a work. this mid price range devices dont have great potential (using sony's stock os). that unfortunate thing is that if you want to make your devices OK you have to do lots of stuff(root unlock bl etc etc you get the idea). but most of the people dont know about xda-flashing rom etc.they just stay at gb or stock ics and complain,or choose to buy a more mainstream devices and this results to not jave that great potential from xperia mid price range device community.
Sorry for my bad english.
No, I have all my phones still
Ericsson T68m
2x Sony Ericsson T68i (one brand new in box)
2x Sony Ericsson T230
Sony Ericsson T610
Sony Ericsson T630
Sony Ericsson K510
2x Sony Ericsson W810 (Black + White)
Sony Ericsson C905
Sony Ericsson Elm (J10i2).
Did have another T230 and two K550's but lost track of them).
I hate my Xperia U, performance sucks (on stock and CM9), if I see a good deal I'll replace it, but still wouldn't sell the U.
I would sell Xperia U because of inadequate RAM and unavailability of separate recovery partition.
I'd be lucky to get anything for an Xperia P, after having this device a year I hate it, looking forward to a new phone at the end of this month, probably won't be a Sony due to my Xperia p experience

I am so regretful for having sold my xperia active. Now I have an Xperia Go, is not as powerful as I wish but it is ok. I change my rom once in a while and I am so happy with it.
I was so scared to unlock the bootloader of my X.Active and never did. I guess if I had, I still would have my old phone and never bought another one. Bricking and unbricking your phone and change roms from XDA devs is so funny that you will forget about all the new phones coming out every day.
as for myself, maybe i'd only sell my X-Sola if it's decommissioned, forced to retire, or got a rival phone in my pocket.. it's quite great actually, after tampering with it a lot of customization..
overall, i'm lucky to choose this one..

In a way I regret selling it as i didnot want to spend too much on a phone now so I bought HTC Incredible S which I changed to HTC chacha. I am not happy with both either but atleast the small screen on my HTC chacha doesnot distract me too much from playing games, reading forums, news etc. The main reason I sold it was that I couldnot concentrate much on anything really. Just me and my phone. I am not sure what will happen when I get the New nexus 7

TRUE, I just hate that they didnot update it to JB when they could. They talked about the hardware support on NovaThor but I guess they could have ported JB easily on all devices which were only few months old.

I agree. Xda is amazing. Really I have found so many helpful developers who are working on it without really getting paid. You should always be thankful to developers and those who are helping you out. Trust me, I find almost everything here. I usually do not need to programme at all to do whatever I want to do with my device. Thanks Xda

To be honest really, the devices are monsters. Many of the apps that are written wouldnot work with your device in google play, I have managed to play them really smooth. However, I have noticed that some games/apps won't work on ICS latest build but run very smoothly on GB and Custom roms. I guess ICS was complete failure in terms of its potential.

Well, ram is an issue. If Xperia U had 1 Gb ram and Sd card, this device would be epic but manufacturers always keep something to themselves so a person changes his phone often and they get more profit

I agree, I am also thinking of not going for Sony for atleast next 3 to 5 years looking at my experience. I prefer Nexus more with more freedom. HTC on the other hand is more complicated to unlock, Root, Get S off etc before you can flash roms. Plus, it is a pain to flash official Stock Rom for HTC which was much easier with Sony. So for the moment, these both companies are out of my league!

Tell you from experience, for all the years I am doing it, I had so many bricks and every device came back to life in the end. However, I am yet to see a hardware issue!
Yeah definitely thinking of an android vanilla device, HTC comes with way to much crap and is not fun to root.

using cm11 on it..
just loved it(except for less memory)....
I bought Xperia U one and half year ago! It's a awesome device, considering his price.
Xperia P, good phone to daily use. Nice screen, good camera, good sound, clear voice connections. ****ty battery.
I own a Sola, Nice hardware, bad software.
Got myself a nexus 4.
I beginning to love my Xperia P thanks to the devs
The stock ROM was laggy, with a lot of bugs... Bad experience... Now I have CM11 and it works like a charm
Very fast, with good performance with almost good battery life. Of course, battery life depends of usage.
I loved my XSola but after it got 3 times repaired I don't want to have itanymore, just too much trubles. I sent it back
Really happy with my Sola even if the ICS update pretty much destroyed the battery-life, made the phone extremely laggy and lead me to look into all this rooting and custom-rom business. Currently enjoying a smooth experience with CM11 and battery life seems to be not too far off from the original stock-GB.
I'm either extremely lucky or my phone is abnormally durable because I have not yet bricked it despite fumbling around a lot trying to figure out how to install roms and flash kernel. Also, the phone has been subjected to pretty extreme conditions and gotten away unscathed; high temperatures, low temperatures, high humidity, shaking and rattling, all kinds of gases and fumes, strong electromagnetic fields and radiation.
Size is close to perfect and my only complaint is the low amount of ram which is becoming an issue with newer apps. I've been following the news about Xperia Z1 Compact's successor, but the price will probably be bit too much for my taste.
They could have bothered putting some more extra RAM, the battery is also a bit undersized but hardly as troubling (still gets through an average day fine). The screen size and quality is a big pro, so are lightbar notifications with the right software (talking about which, the power LED is extremely dim, did I get a bad phone or is it designed this way?)
Having paid like 120 € for my U, (but the same place was selling the Go -that actually has worse hardware- for 180!!) I think it was worth the price, on par with the year older Optimus One P500 a friend bought and got me interested in Android
Then again I'm biased by my first Android phone being an Ace 2, with a similiar architecture but 1- (potentially, given the right software) outperforming the U in almost every capability, 2- having switched after 4 years of iPhones and 3- nothing beats free products
I like my P, it's good looking, durable (dropped it few times) and incredibly fast with CM 11. Battery capacity is small though but I can deal with that.
Previosly I had Xperia X10 Mini, oh boy that thing was a beast.
There's no phone in the world like Sony's.
They give best feature at cheap price.
Did you know that Steve Jobs was inspired by sony gadgets that he established APPLE

Well, i got to say that Samsung's are the best , but Sony's phones are the most elegant ( also i think that the illumination bar is a great idea, the size of the xperia U is well "thinked" ...if i want a 4.5 inches , i'll buy a tablet)
Never the less, i got a locked bootloader , it's something i could'nt choose as i was buying it. That point is a shame !! :crying:
i've got an xperia u, a good year and a half old now
inconsistent battery life (sometimes i get 12 hours, sometimes i get 2 days both with medium use) and that stupid illumination bar (why nobody managed to create something that permanently shuts it off is beyond me) are the biggest cons
i like its build quality, size and design. for its price it was the best deal back then.
currently running a jb rom on it which is smoother than stock ics but functions like usb tethering and wifi hotspot don't work which is kind of a bummer. it's another pet peeve of mine, ten million buggy roms got released over the past 2 years and not one of them work perfectly.
