[Q] Questions Regarding Developer Account on Google Play - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Guys, I just made some apps and I want to publish them on Google Play, some paid and some free. I successfully paid the $25 fee for Google Play Developer Account.
Now, to publish paid apps, a merchant account on Google Checkout is needed. This requires us to have a credit card.
My questions are:
Can't a debit card work here?
If yes, does it need to be from a 'big' bank, I mean the one that operates globally?
Won't just a debit card from ANY bank work?
All in all, I mean is there any restriction on which bank the card is from?
And now, if debit card won't be allowed, I have same questions for a credit card.
Please somebody respond to me guys, I am very upset at this. I did all that I wanted to but just can't publish because of this annoying thing.
Also, I want to mention, when I was asked to pay the $25 fee, they didn't accept the payment from a debit card. When I later used a credit card (of a friend) it was accepted.
The problem is I don't earn, I am a student so I can't avail a credit card (In India I can't, unaware of other countries). Now if my debit card (which I will get in a month ) doesn't work here, I will have to get a credit card (most probably in my dad's name) which will again take a long time to reach my hands. I can't waste my time. Please somebody help me.
Currently I don't own any of the card - neither debit nor credit, I used my friend's. I have applied for a debit card today and it'll take a month to be created, as I said above. So I am under doubt will this merchant account accept that?
I might have confused you a lot, because even I am upset and out of control. :crying:
If any one of you can help, please respond.
Thanks.

I know, things are really frustrating. You need a credit card. I'm pretty sure. A friend of mine registered for SAT, and he had to get a credit card for that. I know programming. I have made some applications. But I cant publish it because I can't spend 25 dollars. In India, 25 dollars are a considerable amount of money. I have to wait till I finish my studies to publish my app. You will need a credit card, but let me tell you something, credit cards can easily ruin a man.

And what's that last sentence? It horrifies me! What does that mean?

When you get a credit card, you are tightening a noose around your neck. My sister got a credit card in India, the bank kept calling her up every month and asking her to deposit some money to the credit card. We're broke and it's really hard paying top of 1000 Rupees every month. In the end, we had to cancel the credit card and so ended her dreams of studying in America.

Hey bro. Don't worry. You could opt for virtual credit card. If you or any of your family members have an Sbi account. You can apply for it. It's just simple. If you want $20, you could apply for a virtual credit card that amount, then the bank will provide you a card number which will be valid for single use. I often use it to recharge my Google wallet to buy apps and for online shopping and also to ddeposit my PayPal.

I have already read that buddy. I know that they have mentioned a debit card also there but as I said it was rejected when I was paying the 25$ for Developer Account. So, I am worried if it also doesn't get accepted for a Merchant Account.

Hi fabolousxda,
Does your debit card have a visa or mastercard logo on it? if it does you can use it just like a credit card. Unfortunately we cannot accept any other forms of payment.
Thanks!

[Q] Ordering from a UK retailer , but in PAYMENTS

is there any UK retailer that could sell the sgs2 but in payments? I cant pay for the whole thing... it means paying lets say like for example 50 pound per month..
is there any retailer that might do that or accept such kind of payment? =/
please help me out as I really wanna switch from this Omnia HD of mine..
thanks in advance
P.S
I live in Israel and not in the UK, if that will change anything...
none..?
I'm not trying sound sarcastic, but would they not let you order with a credit card? Paying that off in installments.
huh? what do you mean?
I meant credit card, but in payments.. like paying 50 pound per month instead of the whole 440 pounds in 1 hit (1 month)
Last time I looked that's kinda how credit cards work, you buy it in one go and pay the card off as you can afford it.
weird because I'm always getting charged in 1 hit.. no matter how big the charge is..
Well of course you're going to get charged the interest on the full amount, but it's up to you pay down the capital. Even if you did find a UK supplier with a credit agreement, it would be the same and probably cost more. You won't get instalments.

I think the OP is referring to a hire purchase agreement? rather than the entire amount being charged to his credit card in one hit, and then making monthly payments to credit card company. At least, thats my take anyway. If I'm right, then I think he is out of luck, as most hire purchase agreements require some sort of credit check?

No idea how credit cards work in the UK but in Austria you get a monthly statement, to be paid immediately and in full, while in the US they seem to work more like giros.
But anyway, OP, if you can't afford the phone don't buy it. Consumer loans for something that isn't an investment (own flat / house, maybe a car) are a really bad idea.

Yeah that's what I was referring to, a credit agreement where they split the cost of the item and include interest. So a fixed amount each month until term, but even if he could find one it would cost a bomb and not for an overseas buyer.

What you have to pay the entire balance?

Yep, it's even debited automatically from a regular bank account / giro, so it's only a credit card insofar as you only have to pay once per month. My point was, what a credit card actually is differs a lot, usually on a country-by-country basis.

Now that would make you think twice about buying. It's all too easy over here to have a dozen cards maxed to the limit and just pay minimum balances of a few quid. Not only that, they're always increasing the credit limit. One card I've had a small balance on, only a few hundred on and off has a limit of over £20K. Never asked for it.
just order the O2 50 min deal cancel data bolt on after a month, and then pay 10.50 p/m over 24 mnths, interest free no hassle

What was your order date?
Method of payment? Credit Card or Debit Card?
Have you called customer service and if so what did they say?
I did read somewhere someone said their order was cancelled, however, he paid by Debit Card and there was some issue.
Is debit they say it was a problem with the paymant my ordee was on 12/3/11. This problem was before buy they two times give my money back then charge
In Canada they don't accept debit visas online and I got an email telling me to provide them with an alternative method of payment within 5 days or my order will be cancelled.
thats why i ordered with my credit card that has no limit. makes things considerably easier.

What an interesting thing to choose to share. Must be quite the credit card. Even friends with Centurion cards have limits. High limits, but limits nonetheless.

There simply is no such thing as a credit card with no limit.
All credit cards have limits, some may be very high, but even the highest still have a limit.

There is credit card there is no limit. Not everywhere in the world, but it exists at least in US and HK as far as I know.
Here is one: dailymarkets.com/personal-finance/2010/12/07/american-express-premier-rewards-gold-card-review
wow, this thread went off topic pretty fast.
amex is different in that some of their cards don't have a set limit, but that doesn't mean you can spend outrageous amounts of money whenever and however you want with them just approving everything.
my business card with them is that way, but if i try to pay for a house with my credit card, it's not going to go through.
Actually I think Amex Black does not have a limit but it is rarely issued. Yes you can buy a jet with it.
But we are getting off topic, where did best buy find cans large enough to fit a transformer in?
thats why i ordered with my pile of cocaine that has no limit. makes things considerably easier.
maybe "can sealed" refers to the aluminum back that's causing wi-fi issues.
for reals, though; that sucks. they better not cancel mine, or...or...or...I'll post here in all caps, I guess. Maybe I'll swear off BB and then go there on 12/27 with the gift cards my folks give me for Xmas.

my swimming pool of heroin is like that, but it's just so inconvenient to carry around.
didn't the OP say he had issues with his debit card payment? if so, then it's within bby's right to cancel and order they can't get paid for, ****ty of them to not call and try to resolve it before cancelling it though.

The Centurion card from Amex is by invitation only and has an annual fee of $2,500 and a one time initiation fee of $5K. It has a limit because a friend of mine hit it charging a chartered wide-body for business in an emergency. It was approved with a phone call but it shows there's a limit. Amex is "no preset spending limit," not "no limit."

payment methods for android market......

hey guys, i just recently got a sensation xe and was looking forward to filling my phone with apps but to my utter amazement i cant as it seems you can only buy apps using a credit card, which i dont have, this seems so backwards......do those pre-paid credit cards work ?. devs must be missing out on loads of sales because of this. please tell me what alternatives there are as i really want to keep my phone but if i cant buy apps, whats the point...?
cheers.....
I don't see why a prepaid wouldn't work as long as it's a legit visa or mc. the card will need the number obviously, an expiration date and a 3 digit security code.
You can use a prepaid credit card in the Market. They have nerly the same functions like an "real" credit card.
Only for rentig a car you should get a real credit card but for the android market ist prepait enough.
Yes you can get like a Visa gift card and just refill it as needed later...

[Q] SD card batch install of apk's

Hi all,
I wish to make an SD card with some free and some paid apps and send to a friend so she can just plug the SD card on the phone, maybe just execute some sort of file and all the apps in one go get installed on the phone.
I assume I will at least need to know the gmail account of the device to buy the apps on the account.
How difficult is to do such a thing?
Talking about copying apks is forbidden in xda
And to ask how to do it!!
--------------
alliances+siyah
I stated that they will be or FREE or legally PAID.
I don't need to talk about copying. I know how this can be done and I am not talking about this at all.

You want to send paid for apps to a second party .
But this user will buy them from Play store ??? but you will purchase them and pay for them ??? . Or are you going to purchase them using this persons credit card .
All this is rather complicated and what is their to stop this user from downloading and purchasing apps from the Play store .
jje
My credit card. I will take all cost and process.
I just want to make a gift with sone apps.
Ideally I could buy them on their Gmail account OR I send them an SD card with the apps.
If it can't happen then IMHO there is a gap in the gift market...

No gap as it would lend itself to theft and your card would have to be tied to their Google account .
Simple solution is to send a Google Play store gift card .

Not bad idea. However, then you just give a gift card and not a specific app as a gift.
Also it seems that this gift card is a physical product not sold online.
I am out of US so I don't think I can get hold of it easily...
