So I have had my Razr for a long time now. Basically it was rooted, and it was getting slow. So i factory reset it all, formatted the sd card. made it basically brand new. So then i root it again. But now none of the wifi tethers will work. They get errors and don't even give off wifi connection. Nothing can pick up the signal at all. They will say, "requesting permision; none, none." then not work after that. They have been allowed by superuser so that is not the issue.
Same here. It was working before the latest update to the app at the beginning of June

When I go into setting.db, there isn't even a selection for "Settings". I found the list of files, but none of them says "entitlement" or any variation thereof. PAC V05
This is what I did..
The line which entitlement is in may be different but you'll find it.

Works so far on my Droid Razr. If you’re like me and don’t feel like paying for an app you can download aShell and aSQLiteManager from the Market. Go into aShell, check the “Root” box at the top, go to File Explorer, then go to data -> data -> com.motorola.android.providers.settings -> databases -> settings.db, open it with aSQLiteManager, click Settings -> Data, click “PgDn” until you get to 150, click “Edit”, change the value to 0, then press the back button soft key until you are prompted to save the changes back in aShell, save the changes, and reboot your phone. You of course still need to have your phone rooted for this method."

Use The other settings selection in sqlite there are two that are very similar I think its the one with the gears icon.

I was quickly able to activate my Samsung Vitality (Gingerbread 2.3.4) to Page Plus with some limitations to MMS and default browser and stable 3G. After two weeks of reading every post I could find, I decided I should ask here !
1. The ##Data# does not do anything so I am unable to edit the default "Cricket" internet/MMS settings and apply the Page Plus settings. This causes issues with the default browser... it doesn't work and with MMS message sending. I have been able to overcome the MMS issue by apply a Page Plus APN, but it doesn't correct the browser. Does anyone know how I can get into the ##DATA# mode ?
2. I use QPST to change the settings necessary for Page Plus including the latest 3G PRL. 1x is solid as a rock, but 3G comes up, sometimes I can get a single web page to load then it drops ... within a few min. it will drop again... any idea on this ? (I am trying to be brief so if you want my QPST/PRL info please ask and I will provide.
3. I know Samsung had a "generic" update to 2.3.6, but it is no longer showing as available for download .. does anyone have the update available for download ?
Thanks in advance

I assume this is the 2.3.6 update and I installed the program on my desktop. However, when I start the upgrade process .. it tells me to hold the following keys ; "camera key,USB cable". Not sure what this means. I assume the camera key is the key configured for the muve music launcher presently, but .. for the usb... scratching my head . I assume I need to use a key sequence to get into the correct mode.. can you tell me what that is? Really appreciate your reply.
I figured it out -- hold camera key while plugging in usb cable !
Click to collapse
Turn your phone OFF
Pull Battery
Re-insert Battery
Hold down Camera button (MUVE) while pluggin in USB cable.
Hit Vol. up to select download mode.
Thanks ! I successfully updated to the 2.3.6. Unfortunately, I still have the problem with 3G, browser, mms msg and now with the Google Play Store. Steps taken -Used one click root to get root back, activated via *228, updated PRL, checked settings in QPST, identical as they were before.
1. Using same method as before to enable mms. I go into airplane mode, delete apn and load the pageplus apn via apn backup & restore app. Then MMS works. Do I need a special MMS.apk for page plus ?
2. Stock browser, dolphin both still have same issue on data (not wifi), connection error on any url load - Opera mini works in socket mode but has same problem if changed to http.
3. 3G has same symptom, it will reflect 3G in hybrid mode and in EVDO mode, but drops out comes back, drops out and cannot load web pages etc.. in CDMA mode only, have solid 1x like before and 1x speeds.
4. New problem, Google Play Store unable to connect unless I use marketaccess.apk to manually set to Verizon 310004 and emulate on boot. I expected the upgrade from market to google play to eliminate the need for me to continue to emulate the provider I am on in the US.
Thanks again !
Update
Update on browser issue. I called Page Plus .. told them I was using a "motorola Citrus" even tho they know I'm not, the rep looked at my settings and said hang on there are a couple of features that could be enable.. 5 minutes later I reactivated and the stock browser works. I wish I could tell you what features on my account they enabled, but they did not tell me. Prior to this my only browse ability was thru Opera Mini configured in socket mode... like I said .. http would not work. I assume they default "unknown" phones to WAP. So if you have a smartphone and are having problems with browsing with stock browser ...
This did not fix the APN issue. I still must use the pageplus apn file and restore it after every reboot or I cannot send MMS messages ...I have provided what is default on my phone ... after activation ? vs. what I enable to get MMS to work
3G - Same issue .. it will not stay connected in hybrid or evdo only mode
Market- Same issue I must use market enabler to emulate the US carrier code I am on after every reload .. the "emulate on boot feature" does not work !
As a side comment .. this is my 14th time attempting to correctly enter the different "spam protection code" ...
Does anyone have links to these files for the sch-r720?
Okay, so there have been a few of us who've been experiencing really terrible 4G download speeds, most notably so in the Play Store. I'm talking Kilobytes per second here, people. I could transcribe the code and compile it faster than this stuff is downloading.
Anyway, I believe I may have fixed the issue. I've rebooted a couple of times and my changes have persisted through, so I'm hopeful. My download speed went from being measured in KB to MB which made me feel like my phone wasn't trying to operate on dial-up with some free hours left over from one of the thousands of AOL free trials discs found laying about in the early 90's.
So, here's what I tried BEFORE my fix:
-- Various 3G/4G Speed/Network/Signal Optimizer/Fix/Strengthen/Repair apps on the Play Store. Two of those apps actually helped my download speeds for the first app I downloaded from the store; after that the speeds went right back to being dismal and embarrassing. Nothing else helped at all.
-- *#*#4636#*#* to Phone Information and toggled various network preferences. Nothing affected my download speeds.
-- Tried various Mobile Network options in the Settings menu. Nothing helped.
-- Toggled variations of Roaming modes, network types, etc.
-- Flashed back to stock.
-- Flashed to Slim Bean (what I was running before)
-- Tried dirty flashing over the roms after getting everything set up
-- Cleared Dalvik, Cache, Fixed Permissions
-- Completely wiped my entire phone and started from fresh
-- Tried custom kernels
-- Went to the Verizon store and got a brand new sim card
-- In Build.prop I changed ril.subscription.types from NV,RUIM to RUIM,NV. Some google search led me to a forum where someone suggested that. It didn't do anything for me.
-- In Build.prop I saw ro.product.locale.region was set to GB. Changed that to US and rebooted. No change.
Nothing I was doing was working. I was still getting the worst download speeds I've ever seen in my entire life. I swear to god I was getting better download speeds when I was like, 10 years old browsing the internet on a 14.4 modem on a 386 processor with Windows 3.11. I wanted to punch the internet in its e-face with my digital fist.
So, that's when I had a revelation. I just came from having a Razr Maxx that I'd flashed god knows how many different roms and kernels on over the course of the year that I'd owned it. I never had download issues with that, and it too was running on 4G LTE with a micro sim card in it. If that worked fine, then why doesn't this? With that question in mind, I remembered some of the settings I'd seen in the build.props over the past months and one of them stuck out as I was browsing the build.prop for my new SGS4:
ro.telephony.default_network
On this phone, it was set to 8, however I was 100% certain my Razr Maxx has that value as 14. I figured "screw it, let's give this a shot," and changed that value to 14 instead of 8.
When I rebooted my phone stuck at the Samsung boot logo. I had to pull the battery. I booted into recovery and decided to try something different than my usual "Welp this didn't work time to format everything and try again," approach. I wiped Cache, Dalvik, and Fixed Permissions then rebooted. The phone booted up like normal. I ran Speedtest to see if my speeds were still garbage or not. That test wasn't amazing by any stretch of the word. It was something like 6 mbps down, 6 mbps up. I was getting similar speeds before, so I wasn't hopeful. Then, I went to the Play Store "just to see," and downloaded a past purchase.
It started at 50kb and my heart immediately sank. Then, it went to 2 megs. 3.5. 6.2. 9. Download complete. I was hesitant to accept any actual change, so I downloaded another app. Same increased speed. I was happy, but reluctant. I rebooted, completely certain that my old speeds would return and I'd go back to contemplating a full factory wipe and attempt to return the device for another claiming it was defective. After the phone rebooted and obtained its data connection I went back to the store and downloaded another app. FAST SPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEED!
I don't know what the heck changing that 8 to 14 did or what that value actually represents, but my speeds have remained "fixed". Granted, they're slower than they probably could be, but my Play Store downloads have gone back to acceptable rates so I figured sharing that information with you guys here might help at least one other person who can't understand for the life of them why their new phone refuses to go as fast as it should.
TL;DR: Went to Build.prop and changed ro.telephony.default_network to 14 instead of 8 and my Play Store download speeds went from kbps back to mbps.
My issue has been very similar to yours. Except the only slow downloads I get are when they originate from Google. Running the speedtest app and viewing webpages all show my device is capable of downloading at serveral megs a second. But if I tried to watch videos on Youtube or listen to music I would get constant buffering and some downloads from the market (the more popular one like Angry Birds or Gmail) would only download at about 40k. Then all of a sudden everything started downloading at high speed again. I was overjoyed.
Today I decided to try another ROM and unfortunately after flashing some downloads are incredibly slow again.
I suspect that changing the default_network in the build.prop did not actually fix the issue you were having. Especially since the information I have found about the field suggests it sets your phone default network type to something like CDMA or LTE only after a factory reset of your phone. In any case I have set this same field to 14, cleared dalvik and cache, then fixed permissions and my download speeds remain just as slow.
Well, I'm actually pretty confident it did because I was looking through apns-conf.xml and noticed that every instance of an LTE segment regardless of network (sprint, tmo, vzw) had this value
Code:
bearer="14"/>
. So, because of that, I'm pretty certain that the network type being set to 14 promotes LTE connectivity over whatever the 8 was, which is a value I can't find any reference for in this APN file.
You can try this, which is the actual steps taken for fixing my problem:
Settings -> More -> Mobile Networks
Data enabled [X]
Data roaming [ ]
National data roaming [ ]
Network Mode: LTE / CDMA / EvDo
System select: Home only
CDMA subscription: RUIM/SIM
Press Back, toggle Airplane Mode on then off
ROM Toolbox -> build.prop editor
ril.subscription.types RUIM,NV
ro.com.android.dataroaming false
ro.product.locale.language en
ro.product.locale.region US
ro.telephony.default_network 14
Reboot to recovery
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Fix Permissions
Reboot
What ROM are you currently running? At the moment I'm running stock and don't have the options for System Select and CDMA Subscription. I also dont have a ro.telephony.default_network entry in the build.prop.

I'm using Slim Bean.
If you're on Stock, you should be able to do this in Mobile Networks:
Mobile Data [X]
Global Data Roaming Access: Deny data roaming access
Network mode: LTE/CDMA
In ROM Toolbox Pro's build.prop editor I also saw that the region was set to GB. That should go back to US if you're in the US.
Edit: Actually, if you're on the stock rom you can go to Settings -> More -> About Phone - Status or whatever the option is. If you look for network type or connection type, you should see something like Verizon LTE 14 or something similar. That's the 14 I was talking about. If that says 14, you should be good.
Hi to all, I recently bought a Cherry Mobile Fusion Bolt(rebranded Ainol Novo 7 Venus/Myth) here in the Philippines, and I have been having some issues with saving APN. Funny enough saving APN worked first time I used my Huawei E1552 Usb modem(after dissabling the cdrom and sd card), but after this I can't save APN and the list is empty. I read hundreds of pages on the net and here and tried most suggestions, with a few differences:
I'm on original ROM, and don't want to flash to another one, because this is the only problem I have, everything else is working.
I live in the Philippines and not SA or US. 4 months a year I live in Denmark.
First time I tried the modem were working with PPPwidget - but not after the new version came out, then I tried disabling the cdrom and SD card via putty on my pc,then the modem worked fine. I needed the cdrom in order to re-install drives on my pc so had to reset it to factory defaults, and when finished then again disabling the cdrom and SD card, and then the APN problem started.
I have downloaded allmost all PPP, UMTS, 3G, APN, System tuner, Tweakker, Toolbox, there is on the Play store and on the net and used market enabler when something was incompatible with my Tab. Nothing seem to be able to give me the APN back. It seems like the APN is locked somehow.
This is a rooted device, from manufacturer, only thing missing when I got it were SU, so I installed Superuser from ChainsDD, but later read that SuperSU fron Chainfire were better and uninstalled Superuser via Play store, then installed SuperSU and rebooted.
Android 4.1.1 JB Kernel 3.4.0+ Build number Cherry_A610_V2
1Ghz A9 Quadcore ATM7029 Cpu
GC1000 QuadCore Gpu
7" HD IPS 5pt. Capacitive touch panel WXGA 1280x800
Micro SD slot for card up to 32GB
8GB Nand Flash instead of 16GB
1GB Ram
Wifi
Micro USB 2.0
VGA front camera, 2MP back camera
Super HD 2160p
4000mAh battery
3G support through dongle
OTG but cable not supplied by Cherry Mobile(you can buy it in CDR-King for 60 pesos).
Cherry Mobile has NO support for this model on their homepage, funny since all their shops are out of stock with this model. I had to buy mine from a different shop. Ainol is even worse since their site is chinese only, can be used through Google translate, but then the search function doesn't work and you have to read through many pages and not finding anything.
When I start the Tab, attach the modem I get signal bar in notification, but "No internet connection", then I go to Mobile Networks> APN and its empty. Then I go to search for Operator and it finds Globe PH Prepaid, i chose that but nothing happens APN is still empty.
Then I try manually to set the APN, I just copy the info from my Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus, and then hit menu button to click the Save button, but this is were things go wrong - there is no save button, actually when I hit menu button, the screen changes to APN list and its still empty. I also tried to just hit the back button, same result.
I tried getting Tweakker from Play store, to automatically set the APN, but after the APN list is still empty.
I Tried APN backup & restore, backing up then restore, still empty. Doing the same thing then restart, stil empty. Removing all apps that had anything to do with APN or 3G modem and clear all data for them. Try above again, still empty.
Try my modem in my pc - works fine. Reset it again to factory defaults - works fine. Update firmware so I now also have phone and MMS - works fine. then disabling cdrom and SD card - try with PPP widget - not working. Then changing the dailup number, save, try dailing - hung. Then changing it back to the correct *99***1# - now working but still only browsing works. Ok decided to update PPPwidget to newest one - now not working. Switched back to old version I found on the net - still not working. Read on the the homepage of PPPwidget that the desired options I like besides browsing(TXT, MMS, Phone, Downloading from Play store) might not be available since the JB don't see the connection only some browsers do. OK uninstalled PPPWidget to try and get it set up manually like in the start, again not working.
Starting over from scratch(not resetting though - tried that on another "Chinese" tab and had chinese menues(ARRRGH)).
I'm back to the point that the APN list is still empty.
So my questions are simple:
Could it be that the list of the APN is locked somehow and thats why I can't add APN's?
Could it be that one of these wonderfull App's has deleted some system file?
Could it be that the APN list is read only, and only write for admin, where the Tablet thinks I'm not.
Could it be a general JB problem - I have read hundreds of similar stories on the net - all with different Tab's some with phones?
Any suggestions on what I can use - APN manager free is no longer available from Play store, and the Pro version is said to have major problems with JB.
Hope someone can help
With kind regards
JBJ
PS. Please take this serious and not as a thread to make fun of the OP.
Nothing??
Seriously?????
Nobody has a solution?
Never mind, the tab died after 4 months use. In order go bring to Warranty repair it would cost additional 3000 pesos, because Cherry Mobile don't accept delivery by courier service - only original owner, the name on the receipt.
I want to warn people not to buy Cherry Mobile gadgets if they live far from service center - unless they don't care about the warranty.
Finally fixed my cheap Galaxy s4 clone and I will share it.
In short:
Make the A-GPS and EPO settings with Mobile Uncle.
Download MANUALLY EPO.DAT, copy to the right folder, give rights.
Set your location with Fast GPS
Delete 1 file.
RESTART- no questions - need restart.
Add an antenna to his cover case.
The story in detail:
Very nice S4 clone has a problem with the GPS. Not just the software part is hard, but his GPS antenna is very weak.
First you need to root it. With Framaroot I did it, later needed rooted privileges operations.
Once you have rooted it, download Mobileuncle Tools
Start it, grant access root. -it needs it.
Engeneer Mode
Engeneer Mode ( MTK )
Swipe ( scrool ) to Location - on the right
Location Based Service
it will be selected the AGPS. Deselect and select the Enable A-GPS,don't touch others
click on EPO
click and unclick on "Enable EPO" ( must be selected but do an action in ui to make sure it write the settings)
at this point the autodownload it isn't working!!! unselect it, no reason to try to download it.
at EPO file info you can see - when you come back later when will expire. It is valid 30 days only.
Exit from Mobileuncle Tools
If it would work the download, then it would download and copy the EPO.DAT file to /data/misc/ folder. It is 270kilobytes and has right 777, altought not needed to be executable, but if you miss a right, than again: no GPS signal.
Download manually from http:
epodownload.mediatek.com/EPO.DAT
epodownload.mediatek.com/EPO.MD5
with PC and move to phone or download with your phones browser, whatever.... need to be moved to the to /data/misc/ folder with the correct rights.
Get a Root explorer, browser and go to to /data/misc/ folder.
Delete the mtkgps.dat file. - his cache.
Download and install Faster gps.
This will help to get faster the first fix, instead of never....
I can't believe, but I set the correct NTP server and didn't received GPS updtates(Romania). Changed to a neighbourhood country: Hungary and got, changed to Germany and restarted the phone got signal. Changed back to Romania no more signal. Today got with Romania. The idea is to set where you live, but maybe the server will be down or for some reasons need to change it later
Select your Continent
Select your Country
Exit from Faster GPS
This will edit the gps.conf file at /ect/ folder. Now has the rw-r--r-- rights. Everyone can read and just the owner can write it.
For me has the following content: NTP_SERVER=ro.pool.ntp.org I am sure you can use better one, but be close to your country.
Restart your phone.
Install GPS Test and open it.
Menu
Settings
Clear AGPS
I don't know why needed, but after a clear I need to wait a little bit more but after that I see the communication between the satellites.
After the Clear AGPS the InView number it resets ( and hopefully it will try to communicate with the right satellites)
If you are inside of a building than thats all, you have worked until now without any results, because if you aren't near a window or the building has good ground than no GPS signal for you. With more ore less the Official news recommending to do it like this way. Outside of the building with clean sky and enabled data connection( needs some data!) you can get fix in 10-20 seconds with 5 meter accuracy( sometimes 5 sec). At car it depends where are you and your phone is near of the window or not. If is near and it is summer than it will heat up, so you must move from window and than will loose the GPS signal.
Take a few screenshots for your reference and shut down the phone.
Take off his cover, need to be done a magic with: and antenna.
Go buy a Milka chocolate or ask you wife / mother to give you a aluminium band -she is using at kitchen to store various foods on it. Or go and buy aluminium band from special stores. Make an 3-5 mm wide aluminium tape with around 8 cm length.
The length it is important and can be calculated exactly based of GPS frequency used, but can't measure - at least me - how much is the distance to the motherboard because of different holes.
As show on the images(attached): from the earphone hole to below of the power button hole with 1 cm.
I didn't touched the original antenna, no soldering needed. - maybe if it would be, then it would be better.
Stick that aluminium band with something and put back the cover.
The expected result at me it is: I have signal, where I hadn't ever(at my bad) and the fixes are faster.
External antenna it needed, please see:

You needn't read this thread. There is nothing of any import here.
I was unable to learn how to delete it, or I would have.
As I mentioned below, I manually updated this phone to Nougat using the LG Bridge program. It complicates matters that I can't remember the exact time-frame for issues. I do remember getting real-time traffic updates using google maps even after I upgraded to Android 7. And I did stream Netflix once while on a 12 hour roadtrip, but I can't remember if that was before or after the road-trip. I have found and tried many APN's for the H2O service. Some are supposedly specifically for the G5, others just for mms or internet. Most recently, I did a factory reset after backing up my personal data and media. Twice now actually. The first time, I ran the backup software soon after resetting and when things hadn't changed, I surmised that maybe I was just importing the problem back onto the phone in my settings or something, so I reset again and this time only chose two of the settings categories near the top of the list since they seemed separate to the navigation programming.
I'm going to reset again now and see if the maps work with a stock setup, then see if I can slowly add things one at a time and continually monitor the data functionality.
If a moderator sees this and can delete this post, I would appreciate it since it doesn't seem like it could be helpful to anyone else the way it is. If I am successful in getting the data working and this thread still remains, I will post the process I had followed to achieve that in an "Issue Solved" heading at the bottom. Everything between the snowflakes (*****) is the older post and edits.
*****
History of Issue(s):
>This is my first smartphone and my first Android device
> Bought phone used off swappa running MM 6.?
>Have owned phone for around 8 months
>Volume down button wasn't working, figured I could live with pressing vol up and moving it down manually.
> Thought it would be good idea to upgrade manually to Nougat (10h update) Using LG bridge (about 5 months ago?)
> My carrier is H2Owireless, an AT&T MVNO
> Used to have internet, google maps real-time traffic used to work, Netfilx used to work (both without WiFi).
> Could make calls, send texts, listen to Pandora or Spotify and use my Maps for commuting to work.
> Couldn't send MMS pic msgs.
> Began to learn about APN's and what the different network settings did.
>Tried many APN's and fotzed around with Global, LTE/CDMA, LTE/GSM/UMTS and the submode settings
>Can get 4G and LTE , often have to switch back to Global setting to send SMS/MMS
> Had H2O set up APN as best they knew and network settings to what they felt would work best
> Can do anything and evrything when Wifi is enabled (that's never been an issue)
> I thought phone had bricked about 2 months ago while on a roadtrip.
> Discovered on forum that I could swap cam plus for chin and power on that way.
> Turned out power button was no longer functional
> Learned about vol up + charger to power on phone (use an app to power off and restart phone)
> took off cam plus so I could have phone in case.
And now, I'm standing at the edge of a very deep rabbit hole with a phone that can't use mobile data for most internet access (spotify works, Pandora never worked very well). I've discovered that the version of Nougat I'm running is problematic (update 10h Brightpoint) and that my forcing the update to Nougat might be largely responsible for these issues.
I see myself having a choice between learning how to flash the phone back to Marshmallow, or learning how to flash it up to update 21c... or live without mobile data for most of the functionality I wanted from the phone...
I seek advice from the the forum for which of these options people think I might best choose. Do I need to acquaint myself with these programs used to flash the ROM? Does it seem to you readers that my problems are symptomatic of those which are best rectified by flashing up? Or rolling back to Marshmallow...
I just want to be able to google something while I'm away from wifi.. to get traffic updates while I'm using the navigation.. to listen to spotify.. maybe even watch something on netflix... (calling, SMS and MMS functionality is a given, but I do still have them for the most part).
I can pick things up if I read tutorials / guides... I've flashed PC BIOS before... I could figure it out if I needed to...
But maybe I just need a new chin or clean it? Maybe I should factory reset? Maybe there's other potential causes I'm unaware of?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. It's late here and I won't be reading any responses until tomorrow at work.
Thanking you very much in advance. --Wayne
Edit: I was about to check LG Bridge to see if there was an update available for nougat.. thought I would get this out there first since I was pretty sure I wouldn't get both done tonight..
3rd edit: I checked for LG update, nothing available. I finally decided to factory reset before getting into flashing. That seemed to fix the google maps issue as it seemed to be working without WiFi enabled (I say 'seemed' because my office is slightly below grade and getting a good signal is tough. If it's not working, the address remains grayed out and the connection just buffers, the address filled in after the reset. Then I decided to move some of the things I had backed up from the SD card but neglected to deselect the settings box. After restoring much of what I had backed up, It seemed more like how it had been before the reset. I noticed a small icon next to the signal type and strength meter at the top which hadn't been there before the reset (a small white square with rounded edges that has a zig-zag line going through it that kind of looks like a jagged "N"). Instead of saying offline, the app says poor connection, so I will test it on my way home.. I am hopeful. It seems promising. If I have to reset again, I will deselect settings and set things up fresh; I think that will help. I am beginning to think this isn't so much about my OS or any hardware failure as it is the H2O at&t mvno being throttled or something similar. Even when I'm getting 4 bars of 4G, the maps loads very slowly.. nothing at all like it does on WiFi.
I'll post a final edit after I try it out on the ride home this evening.
