So I went into Verizon today to cancel a line, so I had to do some device swapping. I got a new sim card for my S4 and when the phone booted up and showed Samsung with the unlock symbol and saying unlocked under it. The rep goes oh that's cool does that mean you have a pass code on it?? I'm like yes yes it does lol. You would think they would know what that screen means. Lol

Back before I ditched my iPhone I went around to every at&t store bragging about my jailbreak and/or new beta firmware. It was all good fun haha
Yea my buddy works for Verizon, and he does all kinds of Flashing. He has to make it sound like he doesn't know what all of that means. If he let the Verizon store know that he knew about it, and let customers slide, then he would be in trouble. It may be the same in your case.
Wait....yours still shows the unlocked logo? Mine doesn't and my phone is rooted/custom recovery / cm10. It showed it to me once while I was rooting it...but not after that.
Every ROM I use shows the Samsung unlocked screen. I've used hyperdrive and beans

Same happened when I was with sprint. I was getting my old nexus fixed and when he rebooted it he told me not to root but said he wouldn't tell the manager. He saw the boot up for cm haha

They JUST got them. They just let you use their stupid third party Google wallet app. Plus they are supposedly more reliable for storing contracts on but I've never seen anyone actually put information on their sim card. Seems silly.

I have a stock rooted S4 I got as a replacement from asurion, for a S3, it's on ME7, I have not activated it. Just thoughts from the community, I am a long time aosp user, anti touch jizz since fascinate days. Should I keep the s4 and bear with it on rooted stock or send it back and get another S3?

Why wouldn't they? People buy the one. It's just an htc one with a note 3ish size screen and larger battery + sd card slot finally. I just want reliable and fast 4g again, something I can't have with my s4.
Edit: just read some reviews on the one max. Disappointing. Now I really don't know what I'm going to do for a phone. Maybe back to my rez.

mint condition. Never dropped. No scratches. Kind of undecided what to do with it now. The only thing keeping me on the s4 is 5in screen and battery life. Was definitely getting rid of it before I read the one max review, now I'm not sure what to do

I honestly don't see any reason for any other phone at the moment. If I can get it unlocked I'm straight for a year or more.

Yeah I know. Your best bet may be a dev edition. I really don't think an unlocked bootloader is coming unless samsung leaves a door open for someone to get into in a future update.

Yeah I don't know that One design just doesn't scale well. I mean look at a One compared to a Moto X, it's a joke. They have the same screen size but the Moto X is almost the same size as an iPhone while the One is bigger than our phone. So the BoomSound speakers plus the 5.9" screen means it massive. It only has a Snapdragon 600 after all these devices are coming out with the 800. It loses OIS, which ruins the whole point of their "UltraPixels" with the larger light aperture, in favor of a fingerprint reader which so far hasn't been reviewed very well. Apple integrated the reader into the experience of the iPhone by putting it right on the home button, the One Max makes the same mistake as the Motorola Atrix. Furthermore, it doesn't even retain the best part of the One design, the unibody aluminum shell. It features a plastic ring around the phone like our S4 as well as an apparently spotty removable back that doesn't even feature a removable battery. Very disappointed in the One Max.
Today I woke up and learned that my phone wouldn't charge! I took it into the local Verizon store and I was lucky enough to get a new phone on the spot for free! best news? I had stupidly upgraded to 4.3 and lost root on my old phone. The new phone was still on 4.2! It's like I got a free downgrade! Now I can and will root and upgrade. How cool is that?

I'm not sure why you ever thought taking an OTA was a good idea.
The whole point of this phone was to take control of it before the bootloader was inevitably relocked. Remember the delay of the Loki release for AT&T so that Verizon wouldn't close it? That should have made future developments obvious to everyone.

No, you're absolutely right. I'm kicking myself, quite hard. I got suckered in by native App-to-SD support when I could have just flashed a decent ROM. I had the tools, but I was a [email protected]$$.

Lol, new features in some OTAs can be rather tempting. I learned to patiently wait for rooted OTAs to be made available since I got the original evo in 2010. I've been tempted a few times though. OTAs on Sprint were never as risky as these on Verizon. These folks are serious about locking down our phones!

No you can on me7 and ml1 as well (not sure on the newest mj7). Mdk is just the only one with a boot loader work around

I don't care about getting around the bootloader because I'm staying stock as I don't feel the need to get anything else at the moment. I would overclock and lower the voltage very carefully. I want more battery life as my main goal and speed as my secondary goal.

oh Shayne, maybe he has got the I527. not a total waste of thread space. it is kind of boring here with the ATT device as we are the red headed step child and are fighting for table scraps.

many have stated they are more than happy running stock with the Xposed modules. I however am not as most all modules are not working for me. I have evan unrooted, factory reset and rerooted. with no luck.
something has got to happen. I am a diehard Samsung fan, and evan I have been trying to think of a way out.
Was hoping there will be a Mega 2, but it doesn't look like that's goning to happen. I have the AT&T I527 and while I love the screen real estate, it's a huge step back with the locked boot loader.

There is every possibilty there will be no M2, or maybe there will be. With the bootloader issue, it doesnt matter. The Mega has proven this size of phone is possible. The international model proves its popularity. I am sure by this October, someone else will put out the model without bootloader or Knox.
If ATT or Samsung havent figured it out by then, or show that they give a rats ass about their valued customers, they are going to lose a lot of folk.

I will still have the Mega for a time, but this is a great place to be on XDA
Tire of waiting for something to happen here I got a Note 3 but still hoping some progress will be made with the Mega.

that is exactly what is happening to me... i have the att mega i717 and rooting is not enough for me.. performance on a phone is very important and to tell you guys the truth sometimes i couldn't even answer the phone because it wont respond right away when sliding the green circle (to answer)..
the most important part of a phone is being able to place and receive calls... if it cant do that then whats the point?

You guys who are leaving the Mega you should give it about a month and go with the GS5. I have a Mega coming today just for ****s and giggles. Note 3 is my primary device and August 2014 I will go with the Note 4.
I'm keeping mine. Other than not being able to flash roms, this phone is a perfect go between device. I rarely carry my Nexus 7 around anymore.
After rooting and removing all the ATT and Samsung bloat....this phone is pretty much perfect! And I am getting used to everything working the way it should....no random rebooting...gps, bluetooth, data, etc always works.
And the huge screen!!!!!!!

I want to sell my S4 but I'm afraid once I sell it there will be a bootloader exploit... Is this nuts, or is it just me??
(And possibly get the M8)

Just my opinion but... Your probably safe to move on lol there's some extremely talented people working on it , and I don't want to knock their progress, but its some serious security they're trying to break.
The reality is though that we just never know. Could find an exploit tomorrow.... Could never find it.

I'm not trying to say they're not working, I'm not saying they're bad. I'm just stating... that there hasn't been an unlock since MDK.
I know that we never know, it's just kinda disappointing...

Well I'd either get an MDK S4 off Swappa or get the M8 if your CM addict lol
I had my locked down S4 for a few months, then I sold it on Swappa and got an MDK S4 so I could do just that.
I'm not a real TW fan myself.
I suppose it all depends on what phone you really want.

Just be sure the M8 is able to have custom recoveries too.... I'm not an HTC man so I don't follow it much. You don't want another locked down phone if your goal is to have CM

At this point i've just refused to use the damn thing... I'm using my razr m w/ 4.1.2. on it because it runs better...

Between that and knowing what's possible with the M8 ( on Verizon ) and an MDK S4 you can probably make a good decision.
I know nothing about HTC phones really... But are they unlocked ( bootloaders ) or is it the same deal as the S4?
Verizon is the one pushing the locked down security. Probably worth finding out 1st.

All that I know forsure, is that most HTC phones get unlocked and have great lives with CM.
HTC one, Droid DNA, all the other HTC's

I'd sell the S4 before the S5 comes out. There might be less interest in it after.
I sold my Mk2 S4 and bought an MDK one for ~$35 difference. The only thing that's missing with non-TW roms is the gesture stuff, but that's a small thing when you get GPE/CM/AOSP/whatever you want.
The M8 will probably be unlocked, we've had good success with HTC devices on Verizon. Although the 801 is a new beast to deal with. If you can deal with the razr I'd give it a couple weeks to see how the progress is on the m8

Meaning, See if it gets unlockable... I'm not about to spend 300 bucks and wait 8 months for it to get unlocked. I hate sense, less than twiz, but still. I wouldn't want it on device for more than a few hours.

Ohhhh gotcha Yea wasn't sure that's what you meant. Some of the reps aren't to bad and you can talk to like normal... Others are just robots. Well I did a little reading on it and it certainly seems more promising that the M8 will be unlocked. This S4 will probably be my last Sammy phone with Verizon anyways. Maybe HTC is the way to go. Just wish it has removable battery.

My thoughts exactly. It's just an annoying thing. Vz is the only one to be so resistive.
