[Q] Despicable Me: Minion Rush lag/stuttering? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone getting substantial lag/stuttering in that game? No matter what rom/kernel and overclocking I use, it still lags. Can anyone confirm this? I am really doubtful that the GS2 can't smoothly handle this game.

Same with Galaxy S3.

It is smooth on my s2.It lags with apolo kernel but with siyah and dorimanx,it runs smooth

Just downloaded it out of curiosity, it ran fine with no lags. That's underclocked to 1GHz (normal setup for me.) Dorimanx 9.16, using zzmoove governor & Rootbox 4.1.
EDIT: here's a link to a screencast video of it: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qwcptciv1w1fd1s/video_Jul_04_2013_2.mp4. It's slightly choppy with screencast running in the background, but with no background apps it runs perfectly Never mind the blue instead of yellow, colours are inverted (..there is a reason but I forgot. I use screencast once every 6 months or so, and can't be bothered fixing it.) But you get the point, it runs fine.

Is it laggy, like low fps? or stuttering, with good frame rate but micro pauses when running?

I use both stock kernels for the roms.

No lags, especially when I freeze everything useless and ram-hogging. Tested on stock jb s2g.
Sent from My Awesome Paradox ST21i

On my phone the lags were caused by a kernel feature called zram.
This creates a compressed swap partition in ram.
I disabled zram by moving the following file to another place.
/system/bin/zram_start.sh
Just move it elsewhere, then reboot and see if it helps
I hope you have similar file there as on my phone.
[edit: in samsung you have to disable zram in another way..please ask a developer

Thanks for the heads up! the GS2 Kernel (dorimanx) gives me an easy option to disable zram. So you're saying that when zram is enabled, despicable me lags?

Its because Tue game is capped at about 30 fps by gameloft. We cant do anything abt it. Try using fps meter even if it is smooth it does nt give fps more than 35

Yes zram affects the pauses/lag
Also i now set /proc/sys/vm/dirty_ratio on 5 same as background_ratio.
You can set this via script, or to test it..use root explorer to set the value.

Of course, if you try playing 720p movies will be slow, because our processor it's only 600Mhz, or what you have overclocking, and for playing 720p it's needed 1GHz +, so best resolution for see movies smooth -> 480p max
lol
thanks for the explanation. Just a question! Do you think that our processor could handle a day with a 1 Ghz modifcações that will arise? Why does our phone supports 720, but we do not have the necessary processor. What do you think?

You mean overclock it to 1GHz ? it will explode your device max handle its 825mhz, and only few people have reached it, best speed seems to be 691 MHz

Why would you even want Honeycomb on our phone? Honeycomb is ment for tablets and most apps for it will likely well, be unusable.

[Q] Force games to lower screen resolution

hey,
I own a galaxy nexus and the performance of a few HD games are under my expectations, even with a bus overclocked kernel! (i've tried many, to no use )
Is there is a way to force selected apps to run at a lower screen resolution? say 540x960? i don't mind if it doesn't run in full screen, i just prefer a constant 60FPS over a few extra details!
is there a way to do this?
thank you
if you are rooted u might try the app chainfire
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsImV1LmNoYWluZmlyZS5jZjNkIl0.
it allows u to changhe the game quality
i saw many people owning older armv6 devices who made games like temple run playable on theyr device using this app

With all my Androids, I always got some performance boost when I set it to Airplane Mode and disable auto-sync. If receiving calls/emails isn't important when you are gaming, try enabling Airplane Mode and manually turning WiFi on, if your game needs an active internet connection.
I'm getting a Galaxy Nexus very soon and I hope to don't have these problems :crying:
Good luck!

[Q] ways to speed up SGP 4.2?

My SGP4.2 is so ridiculously slow and choppy it borders on being unusable. It's two days old and 8 haven't filled it with anything. At first i thought it was defective, but after seeing some of the review vids, they all act the same. I've rooted mine and removed all of the stuff that samsung put on there (literally have less than one page of apps even with the music software I downloaded), use a different launcher with just a single pane with no widgets at all, deleted all google apps so there is no syncing in the background, and even switched over to a lighter browser and deleted the stock, it still runs like crap. Using poweramp playing 320kbps mp3's, the music skips if i'm browsing the web. There's a two second delay from when i type and the letters apperearing on the screen. That's all i do with this thing, music. Only need a browser to find new music. Its weird because its hardware specs are basically the same as the desire z and xperia play i also have, but they literally run circles around this thing. All on gingerbread too. Is it just a really crappy rom samsung threw on here? Anything i can do? Searched and searched but couldn't find a overclockable kernel or lighter rom. Can't even find a custom recovery so i can flash that adrenaline patch.
Which rom do you run?
Is it the latest? My web browser was choppy at the beginning, but it works fine after the update.
Sent from my YP-GI1 using xda app-developers app
The latest one i guess. Says i'm up to date when i check manually. Its not just web browsing. Everything and everywhere throughout the entire device. Poweramp stutters like crazy. Winamp works much smoother, but poweramp works fine on an unrooted stock desire z. Strange. I may just swap this one out for another. Im thinking it craps out when reading/writing to flash memory. If the replacement has problems too, prpbably just going to get a sony f806.

he has a 4.2 there is ONLY the stock or stock rooted ROM to use.
OP, tegrak overclock or No-frills CPU tuner and see what kind of overclock you can pull, also under advance audio tweaks in poweramp increase the audio buffer size to Large (+250 ms).
you can try doing a complete factory reset.
I know, but mine became much smoother after the update. Just wanted to ask

Increased the buffer to huge (+750ms) and its stuttering less. Thanks. The kernel isn't compatible with tegrak or no-frills. Already looked at those options.
It works fine as a music player. And i got it for a good price. Just going to stick with it and hope a custom rom comes out sometime (or at least a recovery). The back is large enough for me to attach my fiio e11 so its all good. Thanks again.

Audio stuttering

Hi all, I have a reoccurring problem: when listening to music with headphones-even different pairs-the audio stutters every few seconds. This happens quite often. I'm running Viper 2.0 and on ATT. I also have turned off Beats audio, or anyoyher audio affect in order to try and get rid of this problem, but to no luck
Anyone else have this problem?
If I'm not mistaken, this has to do with the kernel, specifically the max screen off frequency. Which kernel do you use?

Interesting. I wonder if this is the same thing I experience. I have some audio, mainly pandora and slacker, that have audio issues when the screen is not asleep.
I've got the same issue and noticed that it happens when I have wifi turned on and the phone is searching for wifi hotspots. Also turning off the screen seems to make it happen less frequently. It's really annoying, especially when you are playing music in a car loud.

btw after spending some time on internet I hv solved the stuttering problem, installed Headset Blocker, installed Player Pro and hv set Audio Priority to "maximum" (under Player Pro Audio Settings)... now music plays flawless... this seems to work even with stock roms, gps/wifi all on, and with standard CPU settings in BLADE kernel !

it has nothing to do with the ROM but just the kernel
but yes using a player that supports audio buffering helps too
just you dont need to pay for a player to solve it - thats all

Blutooth range + Music stuttering while screen off issue FIX

Many users have reported blutooth range much reduced on latest built NG. Also while playing music with screen off there may be stuttering.
Here is fix for both
You can use on latest build ROM from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54937392&postcount=11611
PS : Music fix recommended for stock kernel users only.
Thanks works on my i317m great. I listen to audio books at work 8 hrs a night and the skipping and Bluetooth static was driving me crazy not a skip or static and nice and clear
Music Fix is useless on Note II as usual, all you have to do is install CPU TUNER and overclock it,et voila magic,it works, doesn't take an Einstein to find it out..

the difference is that your music fix doesn't stop the stuttering when screen off while overclocking works perfectly well.
That's may be bcoz if you are using other cpu tweaking script or custom kernel that can cause conflict. Additional thing of music fix is it tweaks freq when music playing with screen off. So that will keep freq normal when not needed. It's reported working on hundreds of users well.

You need to realise one thing.. the fix is not useless..! What is useless is overclocking as it has no effect once the screen is locked as the governors will automatically push the phone the lowest acceptable/pre set values..!
So i recommend read more and think before you term someones work as useless
cheers..!

Then it is really good for you..! I would certainly save some battery by not pushing my phone to a higher frequency when a useless apk can work for me As my music usage is pretty high..! As much as 3-4 hours per day.. (I consider it high) and all this while i cannot push the phone to a higher frequency ..!
Great
Does bluetooth work properly like on 4.3/4.1 again after flashing this mod? Just asking..
