Hi,
yesterday night my wifes S3 (international) has lost baseband and while trying to to set the network from settings there was a mesage "please put in SIM card to use network options". Short after that it started to reboot it self.
The phone was stock - unbranded and unlocked, never flashed and rooted.
I have rooted it this mornig and flashed the latest CWM than flashed Nighmare ROM as I am using it on my i9300. The auto-reboot issue was gone but I still could not set up the network - I have checked the SIM its fine and the pfne did not take other SIM cards...
Then I have checked the IMEI and supriseingly I got the message "IMEI null/null"..
I have read a lot about and I am downloading a stock ROM to hopely solve this issu.
Is there any one who had a smmmilar issue? Any thoughts? Suggestions?
I appreciate every help...
For the network issue first try another sim in the phone, it might work in other phones but similar problems have been solved with a replacement sim.
On the IMEI problem, simply restore the backup you made before you flashed your custom rom. Flashing a stock rom can sometimes enable the efs partition to be read again, but if it's been damaged or wiped then only a restore of backup, after formatting the partition will fix it.

So basically, you took a suspect phone, possibly still under warranty and voided it. Interesting...

See the guides to return to stick. Ensure you reset the flash status then return it for repair

If the stock download fails then read the return to stock for warrant how to guide .
You may be able to restore it to a condition where Samsung accept warranty .
Root CWM custom rom have voided warranty and changed status and custom rom count .

Hi, i dont think so.. i have an galaxy s2 and also went to the water and then didn´t recognize sim cards and imei null/null. i tried with a lot of boxes and no luck. i friend told me it was a problem of hardware and the only way is to repair an internal chip and then repair imei.

I've seen that picture already on GSMhosting forum. I guess I could try that, I'm gonna check it out and see if it's worth it. First I got to find a repair shop that does the job.
In samsung genuine repair center they will probably ask 200 euros and say that the only thing that they can do is substitute the whole motherboard, don't you think?
Yes they will say that. However they may be right. Once you repair this piece, maybe you find another piece needs repair. Then another. How many repairs will you do before you give up? You must decide in advance and set yourself a limit and not go over it

Hi there,
problem as follows: I got a I9300 (pre-rootet and with some kind of chinese custom rom based on 4.0.4). I did not put in my simcard, but flashed it straight away with a 4.1.1 custom rom, and did the efs backup.
However, once I put in my simcard it shows no service. I have tried several roms and just restored stock recovery and stock firmware 4.1.1 but nothing has changed.
i have checked this threat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1080076 and others, but still my phone is not having service.
I don't think that my efs partition is corrupted since when I type in those keycodes it still shows my imei. also I did a restore of my backed up efs.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!

I'll keep looking... thanks
Update:
I have asked the person who gave the phone to me, and apparently it was a parallel import to china. However, I have no idea where it is from originally.
I have tried flashing a couple of different stock roms, but without success.
I have also tried to flash the chinese rom from the suggested thread, but it keeps failing when it comes to the part where it wants to install the modem.
Does anyone have an idea how to find out the origin of the phone?
I have tried Kies, entering the model number and serial, but kies does not accept the serial.
My last hope would be that I can find out which market it is from, then flash back the original stock firmware?
Any other ideas why it might show no service?
IMEI is shown, so I think efs partiotion should be still ok, right?
I'd really appreciate any help and suggestions. I am out of ideas...
Thanks
There is some issue with your efs or modem.

IMEI is shown as on sticker.
I have no idea where the phone is originally from - I have contacted Samsung but they were not willing to help- they say it has not been bought in NZ so they cannot help me here. Hence I dont know which modem would be the correct one. I have tried a couple of different ones, but none seems to be working.
Sim is ok, also tried like 5 other sim cards.

That's what I read in other forums now as well.
The error seems to be common after unlocking with boxes.
So I suspect that someone unlocked the phone, which messed up the efs folder. The backup I made when I received phone, must already be faulty.
I also noticed that the SN in the phone settings shows up as a different number than the one on the sticker.
I guess I have to find someone with those 'boxes" who knows what he is doing Any suggestions for Auckland, NZ?
I have been to like 5 shops but noone could help so far... THANKS

Thanks, I had tried that. Kies doesn't recognize the SN. Strangely enough SN in settings and SN on sticker are not the same. I really think seller screwed with the efs partition.
Was it working with the original Rom?
From my reading of your posts you have not changed the modem or csc that it came with?
Perhaps if you tried a 4.0.4 Rom again you might have some luck given it was probably working when you received it.
The different serial numbers are suspicious though. Presumably the one on the sticker is the correct one. Would Samsung not be able to identify the phone by the SN and tell you what the original firmware is?

When I received the phone it was not working. Hence I installed stock rom. I also tried flashing different modems, but nothing helped.
I contacted Samsung service and they said they wouldn't be able to help me because I did not purchase the phone in the country where I live in, and also cannot give me any information about where the phone was originally from.
It possible that is an imei block. If the phone is sold with a subscription and the owner sell it to an other prson without paying anymore the taxes for the phone the operator is able to block your phone using the imei.

As bought origins unknown .
Non working may be faulty and not fixable .
May have been as said blocked as its a stolen phone .
If it is I9300 then i would be flashing stock ICS firmware with modem and CSC for the country/network you are trying to use the phone on .At least then after a successful flash their can only be two reasons for not working phone hardware or IMEI .

IMEI is ok. I also called my network provider to check if IMEI is blacklisted in my country, but say also say it's not blacklisted.
Someone told me (and I also read it on other forums) that this often happens after unlocks, which are actually not successfully finished.
I will meet him tomorrow and will post an update.
Thanks for the suggestions and help so far.
Ok last update:
Indeed the phone is unlocked and something went wrong with it. Apparently, it is a common thing that the IMEI changes during unlock and then has to be restored, which often causes that problem.
The guy who helped me got it fixed. Only problem is now that I cannot flash the modem file. So have to stick with roms which come without modem. Also it seems that some are incompatible with the 'old'modem
Right now I am using AOKP and everything is working.
Thanks again for all the help and suggestions!

Spoon feeding is not allowed here.
If you're a Android n00b and want to know how to root or flash custom or stock roms I suggest you do some reading/research. We have plenty of Q&A and guides that cover this.
Asking "how do I root" is a silly question to ask because its already been asked and answered so just look/read.
If you lost somehow your IMEI number(0 under *#06#), rooting the device won't help.
First, before any movement, backup your data and then restore defaults. Maybe it's some king of bug?
Settings->backup &restore -> restore defaults, erase memory.

First, relax. Its just a phone.
If the phone is still under warrenty - get it replaced/fixed for free where you bought it from.

CMD is command line - like MSDOS or Linux terminal. ADB is not something that you'll get by asking questions and getting answers, you need to read about it and understand it. It will take you a couple of days to figure it out.
I'd try going to several different phone shops/labs. Hopefully they will diagnose the problem without replacing the entire PCB. It's worth a shot.
If every shop says that you must replace the board, ask around. Maybe one of your friends knows someone who is able to fix this.
From what you described it seems like water damage or other hardware fault.

If you want anyone to -try to- help you get your phone back you should at least consider searching for easy questions.
Check what ROM you are on and perform a search at xda or google (or both).
Now, are you sure warranty is voided? if it was 2 years you still got time....If you root your devices, warranty will be off the table for you.
Seat back and get you sh*t together, take a long breath and then report back to see what's up.

Hi all,
I have exactly the same issue on my Galaxy S2 on Vodaphone in the UK. It's out of warranty and not rooted. I did an IOS upgrade to ICS v4.0.3 and at that point it shows no signal and the IMEI no. is blank after dialing *#06#. Somehow it has lost/corrupted the IMEI no. during the upgrade.
Is the only way to recover the IMEI no. to root the phone? Or is there another method?
Thanks all!
An iOS upgrade ? No wonder you borked your IMEI
Go to Samfirmware, find the latest stock rom for your carrier/country. Flash it with Odin. How ? Search/read/learn. If you're lucky, yours is a case where the IMEI disappearing is a transient thing & doing a 'good' flash of stock (as opposed to the update that obviously barfed in some way - I presume you're talking about an OTA update as opposed to something you did manually ?) might well fix the problem. We've seen a number of similar problems on here lately.
If you're unlucky, you're SOOL & it ain't coming back. Rooting it isn't going to magically fix it unless you have an EFS backup, which you won't have if you're someone who's never rooted their phone. Take it to a local mobile repair shop, they may be able to help. A Samsung service centre/authorised repairer will also fix it for you regardless of the warranty status, they'll just charge you more than a local mobile shop who isn't an authorised Samsung repairer will, likely.
Thank you for your response! I took the S2 to a phone repair shop, the guy tried flashing it back to stock IOS but this failed. He ended up replacing the motherboard, all fine now. The model is GT-I9100, I managed to successfully upgrade the IOS to 4.1.2 using Kies. Perhaps I should've done that first time around instead of selecting Settings-About Device-Software Update over Wifi - which resulted in the phone losing it's IMEI no.
Many thanks for the replies!

Hi,
I've ordered from a chinese seller on ebay an i9300 for 500$+10$transport.
I received the phone that was in a perfect brand new condition in original box.
I turned it on and i see that the phone always is in "safe mode" condition and has a few chinese apps installed.
This means that it always writes on bottom left "safe mode" and i understand that it doesn't load all programs and stuff.
Apart from that everything else seems to work ok.
I've tried to update it over the air but i receive error "processing failed".
I connected it on Kies and it recognizes it as SGH-I747M!!! and can't update it. PDA:LG3 PHONE:LI5 CSC:LG3 (TLS)
Also when i enter download mode it writes SGH-I747.
On Settings>About Device, it says model:GT-I9300 4.1.1, baseband unknown, kernel 3.0.8-599060-user [email protected]#1 build JMM76D.LXKJ.F2A238.2JIA68 .
On toolkit 7>Device Info, it appears as GT-I9300, Firmware build ID: IMM76D, firmware build PDA: I9300ZSALG3, firmware region code: TLS, boot image status:secure (based on ro.secure value).
I've tried to flash with Odin the latest versions of I9300 and SGH-I747 from sammobile and it fails!
I've tried to download rom manager and flash CWM but it doesn't load probably because i am on safe mode.
I understand that the device is an SGH-I747M but with a kind of I9300 ROM installed.
Of course i'm in contact with the seller to find a solution and if i open a case on ebay i will get a full refund.
But if i get a partial refund and keep the phone, can i do anything with it? Can i push CWM recovery and flash any rom? And what roms can i flash? I9300 or SGH-I747?
What do you suggest me to do?
I'm new with S3 but i had a Huawei U8800pro and an HTC desire so i'm not totally newbie.
Please help! thanks.

This is a probable fake its not an I9300 .
I've tried to flash with Odin the latest versions of I9300 and SGH-I747 from sammobile and it fails!
If it was an I9300 or even SGH-I747 then you have bricked it by flashing the wrong phone firmware .
There is no return / refund from EBay on a product you have hacked .

Thanks for the answer. I didn't hack it yet. The flashing didn't even start. It failed since the beginning probably because of model mismatch. The phone is in the initial condition and fully functional except for the "safe mode" and the update disability. I think I'll insist on full refund.
The phone is likely fake dude, not the real i9300 by samsung.

i tried to flash i9300 modem , after that i stuck into download mode ... i can enter recovery and installed twrp recovery also with odin
but when i swich it open it goes directly into download mode .
anything i could do .... please
If its a fake we cannot help.
If its not an I9300 and you flashed I9300 firmware then you may well have dead phone .
jje
How about the Volume Button??
It's Volume Button Working??
Try flashing stock sgh ROM with or ldin
If it's original Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 you will be able to access test menu with code *#0*#
If you won't be able it's means that it's fake one.
Battery doesn´t look legit at all. Mine is Black with white letters.
Please remove the back cover and take 2 photos, one with battery in, one with it out and post here(good quality picture please.)
This is the easiest methods of identifying a fake as your information is confused and unclear
It's deffinetly not fake from what i see in those screenshots, but it's the chinese variant not intl one. Usually safe mode is activated by pressing left button while booting, so it must be somethimg wrong with that, apart from any software issues.
Funny thing that SuperSU icon, it may be rroted allready. Try install rom manager and flash cwm from app.

I’m sorry I have to revive this post but I have the same problem. I’ve bought a Galaxy Nexus from Amazon from “On The Go Solutions”, They were out of stock and they kept saying that I was going to get my phone very very soon. After 22 days they confessed that they did not have the phone and they were not getting new ones. and they will send me an SIII as a free upgrade. I finally got a SGSIII GT-I9300. Brand new and perfectly original (my sister and my dad both own a SIII so I would spot a fake right away)
It came with 4.1.1 and I wanted to make a software update as soon as I opened the package. Surprise surprise the phone was Rooted (Not brand new?). I was unable to make the OTA update. That’s not a problem since I know how to install the new version via ODIN.
I downloaded the latest version and after going to Download Mode it said it was a SGH-I747 Qualcomm SecureBot Enabled
I Rebooted the phone and downloaded AnTuTu just to find out the internals of the phone where the same as the I747 (?)
But the menu says I9300, the StartUp animation says I9300, even Antutu says I9300 but the internals of the I747. Also the *#1234# menu says it is a I9300.
LCD Test is working
Can anyone tell me how this is possible?
I don't want to brick the phone

Looks like an I747 with a FW mod to make it say I9300. Flash a genuine I747 firmware with Odin.

No we're not sure. It shouldnt say both. Nothing we can say can be 100% accurate. We can only guess.

Hello everyone
thank for coming so far to read this post
(im a noob)

so i ended up using ariza patch and applying the .v5 patch
so after that i have emergency calls only everything else works apart from the sim i even have signal
so i went to setting and now see that i have a generic imie with 0049...
while the original imie was 35599....
this phone is no stolen or blocked i did this and no one else
i have tried using cdma but everytime i put my phone in RMNET + DM + MODEM and plug it into the comp using a usb program wont read from the phone as its recognized as a modem not serial port?
please can anyone help me get my old imie back so i can use my phone again
im on stock samsung firmware android 4.1.2
Thank you very much
First, stop flashing things you don't fully understand -you'll only make it worse.
Second, questions go in the Q&A forum, report your own post and ask for it to be moved.
Third, flash a full stock rom via odin on your pc -make sure it's an official version from sammobile.
If that doesn't fix it and I'm assuming you didn't backup up your efs folder, then you will have to have your phone repaired.

sorry to bother again i see ur in the uk
how much would it cost if i brought to the nearest service centre? and let them repair it and do i need to do any preps?
£20 maybe... it should still be under warranty though
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 4
Warranty should not / may not cover user playing about with the phone .
True but the device should still be under warranty so its best to send it to official centres. 3rd party mobile phone shops will void warranty. Even if you pay official to get a repair, warranty for other things will remain in tact.

My phone had exactly the same problem and i went to the above official service centre (this is a walk in service centre)
just do a couple of things if you've been playing with firmwares.
1) backup your phone (don't forget calendar items! i lost mine because it wasn't synced to google and i didn't know)
2) root your phone and run triangle away to reset flash counter
3) flash official firmware, (Full Wipe) for you carrier - samfirmware will have the correct version
4) check download mode to make sure its says official firmware and your flash counter is zero
5) Take to service centre and explain that your phone is no longer picking up any networks and your IMEI is blank
To be fair it only taken 48 hours to fix mine. was well happy with the service. All work was covered under warranty.
Also just to clear my conscience my phone had official samsung firmware on but it was rooted so i had to do all the above steps.
Hope this helps

Answer no
Try to reflash it with odin in download mode with lat3st firmware from your country. If you are able to go in download mode you be able to reflash it. If something fails with efs send it warranty and claim that by flashing with kies is lost is efs. Good luck.

I did that, i flashed the latest rom from my carrier 3 Austria using Odin in download mode, now its not rooted and has the official rom, official recovery and it's still looping the logo, and has efs problem,i would send it now to carrier but my problem is the binary counter. Thanks i will need luck.
Many similar threads, guides and stickies on how to do this. If you had an efs backup then you wouldn't even need a repair.

That happens... bad luck. In europe isnt ilegal root. So dont bother with that. Just send the phone. And as advice I would go direct to service not through operator service. try a Samsung repair centrr in your area.

Binary counter is the problem, count of three. Not hard to solve though.
Go to a Samsung repair shop and just tell them what happened, if they ask you. My friend who bricked his phone while rooting got a replacement from samsung.
Good Luck!
Maybe not. I ve sent here in portugal a s2 with a 27 binary counter and they repair it. But I was to vodafone once and they put some questions and at the end they repaired. Thats why I advice to go direct to sammy. They dont look at that things. Its a small fix for them.

Samsung rule is as posted .
Custom rom counter or status modified = warranty void .
As Samsung are not the retailer the EU law does not apply they offer a second limited warranty .
jje
Its not so linear in eu. They must prove that this mods voyded warranty. And if you have a original firmware flashed they can say many things but can t proof that was former firmware or the original one that done the damage... so or warranty is not voyd in EU.

Wrong unless you buy the phone from Samsung Direct .EU law applies to retailers .
Fact is all attempts to get Samsung to repair under this law have failed .
Yes sometimes you will get a warranty repair in a case like this where its users fault equally Samsung will reject warranty due to a scratched screen .
Most countries your actual warranty is with the retailer not Samsung .
Though that gets confused when the retailer sends it to Samsung for repair .

This is the best thing you can do atm i think , go to recovery if you can and wipe data and cache after that go to download mod and flash a stock rom. I had a similar problem and this helped me also the OP i don't know what to do about EFS problem but if you didn't wipe data and cache after flashing with odin that maybe the reason you get a bootloop , so try to wipe data and cache then install your stock rom then use triangle away for your counter .
