Battery life on ROMs is a tough variable. Having hung around these forums for a really long time I can tell you that you will see huge swings in reeactions to battery life, often on the same ROM. There are so many things that can influence battery life that it really is a YMMV thing. you might be able to get some general trends from reading ROM threads, but there is no such thing as "gospel truth". some genral thoughts
1. Push email and facebook chew through battery
2. The accepted consensus is that battery saver prgrams like juice defender can eat as much battery ormore than they save but if you have a specific use case they may work.
3. you can spend your whole day chasing wakelocks...

All ROMs generally have about the same battery life. Battery is all about how you use your phone and how you manage what is running in the background.

Obviously everyone's mileage will vary, but of every ROM I've tried I've seen the best battery out of the Sentinel sense based ROM over in the international one development section. Yes it and basically every other ROM over there is compatible with the att variant

I have tried Sense 5.0, the Google Play Edition ROM and two CM nightly, the most recent one being July 5.
Both the GE and CM handily beat the stock Sense ROM in battery life (at least that was my perception).
CM 10.1 seemed to be a bit better than the Google Edition ROM (it also seems to be significantly more efficient in its use of resources which translates into better battery life), but there are still some issues with CM...NFC, Bluetooth, no Beats Audio Drivers, and I like the new Jelly Bean Camera App better so I am sticking with the GE ROM for the time being.
I love CM though and will probably go back to it once everything gets ironed out...

OK so I too have been questioning battery life. CM 11 did... OK. My previous phone was the Moto G, and comparatively my One has been doing terrible on battery life! I'm currently on Pacrom, tried PA and a couple similar as well, getting 9 hr battery life, 2 hr on (like what the f***!) according to GSam. I'm thinking about stock gpe and playing with kernels? Thoughts? Testing has been taking a while as I try to give every rom kernel combo 3 days at least, a week preferred.

A some what general consensus of Battery life for the One:
Sense > Google Edition > AOSP
In my opinion the best battery life will come from a fairly close to stock sense Rom such as MaximusHD with poondog's Kangaroo Kernel.

Best rom you've ever flashed

In your opinion , which rom is the best you've ever experienced on the HTC amaze ?
By best I mean; smoothness, battery life, less amount of problems , looks
so basically I'm asking which your favorite rom is
Fourth Bar Infusion was to me the best rom i've seen for the Amaze so far.. the only issue i had with it was that the signal bars were broken
CM10, followed closely by SpeedRom 7.8 and Fourth Bar Infusion.
Until CM10 is finished - NRG Stock 8/1 - EVERYTHING works, and battery life is amazing.

Personally, I use Faux. I tried going back to Stock, but ran into some issues with it very rapidly depleting my battery.
Nightmare Sense 4.. Best Battery Life.. only bad things is there are still issues with Wifi Tether and Bluetooth..

Honestly, even if he did, i'd be a little against using it. Nothing against NRG, or course, but last time I checked no Sense 4.X Roms or Phones have WiFi calling. I love my WiFi calling, and after Hurricane Sandy came barreling over head taking my closest tower down for days... I don't wanna give up that option.
Best 3.6 based Rom was speed Rom. Cm10 is good on battery life for me but I didn't find it as smooth as sense 4. Teamvipers sense 4.1 Rom (one posted by Leo and later thread was closed for whatever reason) has been the best Rom for me thus far. Only downside is no working Bluetooth but it's a fair trade off for 4 hours+ screen on time I will post a couple screen shots of my current run and it's buttery smooth just posted screen shots of today's usage with 44% left to go and I play a lot of temple run (hence the screen on time is high and browse via wifi all the time so it's constantly on)

I agree if people want everything working with decent battery life (not necessarily the best but to gain something you must lose something and if it's worth the sacrifice go for it) the amaze on the Htc stock Rom was a beast on it's own what always irked me about this device was it's crappy battery life compared to my Nexus one. Hence I have decided to sacrifice Bluetooth capability for basically never ending battery life on the team vipers Rom I have settled down on. However I do flash anything new to keep my device funky and fresh I still have yet to try your bulletproof reloaded sense 4.1 Rom eclipse, maybe I will flash it tonight and see if I can get even better battery life

The best Rom is the most stable Rom I've used, it's also one that's not being developed anymore "RMS Quicksense v7.0". It's clean and I've never had a freeze or error with it.

I see but the weird thing was that when I flashed team nightmare sense 4.1 I got horrendous battery life so I ended up going back to speed rom (at that time cm10 wasn't fully functional) do you guys plan on continuing work on that rom? Because Leo version seemed to to have everything buttery with tremendous battery life. Is kanging (sorry don't know proper term) not allowed? Aren't there a lot of roms that are kanged? Guess I am confused...

Performance wise: just pure amazing.
Development: Excellent! New Roms and updates almost daily.
Battery wise: Crap. Unless you buy an extended battery, your looking at up to 1:30 hours of screen on time. Compared to other phones that have 3 hours.
Damn I get 6+ hours of screen on time with my Inc2

ymmv with the battery life. i've seen plenty of people with really good battery life reports on aosp (cm9 or cm10). getting anywhere from 3-4 hours screen on with the standard battery. obviously not the 6 hours your getting on your inc, but its to be expected with a better screen and a bigger screen.

I'm running mean horsey face job ROM I'm at 90% battery with 1 hour 10 min screen on time. I was playing bejeweled for a while. The new jb ROMs seem to be pretty amazing on battery life. I do run an extended battery though.
I have a stock battery (with water damage) running my jb build and although I don't have the stats on hand but I tinker around online all day and I don't have to worry about battery until about 8-9 pm running from 7:30 am
Great devoloping phone
I'd have to say if you are used to geting your hands dirty this is a great phone to mess around with. Certain things are tricky to learn like the S-Off trick. The batery life and speed on this phone is great. I've used almost every rom for this and the 2 roms that ive met that meet my requirements for now are Viper Rez 1.0.3 and jelybean ┬─┬ ノ( ^_^ノ) rom. I prefer to use the Amon Ra Recovery and nandroid backup and restore is my bestfriend when switching my roms out. The best thing i've learned though is how to use the kitchen and theming for any device ive owned.
I'm pretty familiar with the Kitchen but what so do I need to upload? For CM7 I just pulled the apk theme and uses that. CM10 you need framework Res? What else

Don't be fooled by the optimism of these guys. There is currently no AOSP variant that is fully functional. CM9 is closer than 10, but there are still things that don't fully work. If you want everything to work as it should, you will need a Sense 3.6 rom and battery life will not be very good. The awesome screen on this phone drains a battery very quickly. We do have some great devs working on both Sense and AOSP, but they can't really make the screen more efficient.

well, what exactly, outside of bluetooth calling isn't fully functioning on aosp? afaik, nothing. and even on sense 3.6 roms, there are plenty of very optimized roms with some awesome kernels that can actually give you pretty good battery life.

You just made my point. If everything doesn't work, then it is not fully functional. As for battery life, it will always be personal opinion as to what is "good", but I don't consider 2-2.5 hours screen on time to be good (and that is what I have seen reported more often than not).
Don't get me wrong, I do think the Rez is a good phone, but it isn't great, and I probably wouldn't spend $200 to get one right now. I was lucky enough to get mine for $50 back when they had it on special and still kept my unlimited.
Well I avg 2.5 hrs screen time stock battery on 4g on and sync and data for everything and over 4 on the OEM extended. Doesn't matter if I run aosp or sense or jb.
To the op, I very much enjoy my rezound and after having many phones on Verizon the rezound is still a fantastic device. However I would strongly suggest soff, amon ra, and multiple stock batteries with a wall/dock for them if you want to keep it slim. Camera is top notch. I run a sense 4 Rom currently and couldn't be happier. It's development is growing due to committed devs. I get battery battery life on my stock rezound battery and sense 4 or aosp that any Rom I had on my vzw nexus. Consistently. The screen is beautiful. Signal is always strong. Soff wil allow you to test many many combinations until you find something you like.

Battery Plus is my favorite ROM, fast, responsive and have yet to have any issues. average of 10 hours of battery life
currently on the hatka Rom (just flashed yesterday) so i can vouch for it being really nice and battery efficient. plus i love the transparent pulldown and app drawer on it.
Viper DNA just dropped today. I was on the beta testing team and not only is the ROM incredible, but I was getting improved battery life on it as compared to stock and UKB.
If u like a customizable Rom and tweaks and a lot of other things viper rom is the one for u. Me I'm on it I too was apart of the beta team and I will say viper is the sheit

Hey all, curious about ROM/Stock battery life.

Hey all!
So I just picked up my Droid DNA a few days ago after trading up via manager approval from a Droid Razr M. Loved the Razr M but the screen was literally killing my eyes; couldn't read it from a rule length away... Anyway, I just wanted to get some input on peoples experiences battery life wise between stock sense 4+ and a stock ROM. I've always been a stock kind of person, but I've noticed with all the great upgrades that came along with my upgrade from the Razr M to the DNA that I've lost quite a bit of on screen time. Any input would be awesome. Thanks!!!

Just slap a kernel with wakelock fixes on this bad boy and you'll get great bettery life. And maybe viperDNA(its an amazing Rom)
With light usage you can get 2 days on the battery, and with heavy usage you can get this.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Consider a kernel...it'll fix some really serious problems...there are also roms that look like stock... battery life on stock isn't as good right now cause of wakelock. you can look up reviews and they'll tell you you will get through a day on light usage on stock. If you plan on using it more then you should consider flashing.

This is on LTE the whole time.
When I was on stock ROM and kernel I easily got a whole day with light to medium usage.
I'm definitely able to get through the day with light use, that's not a problem. I'm more so interested in fixing the stock kernel wakelock problem that is depleting my battery when the phone is just chilling with the screen off. Out of curiosity when installing a kernel, do you have to manually set anything (I ask since the newest version of the LK kernel has the ability to over/under clock the phone, stuff I'm not really interested in messing with), or do you just have to flash and forget about it, so to speak? Thanks!

As most everyone here has already said, but I'll throw in my own experience...
Stock ROM and Stock KERNEL both have pretty good battery life. In my personal situation, I was getting from 7am to about 6pm every weekday before battery dead. My usage is heavy email, txt and voice. Moderate internet browsing. Very little music or video streaming.
With a simple flash of LK's Kernel, I'm now getting through an entire 24hr cycle on a single charge.
Thats a pretty significant improvement in battery life
Alright, I'm hooked. Going to go through the process and flash later on tonight or perhaps tomorrow when I have more time. Any suggestions on which version of LK kernel I should flash if I'm mostly interested in just stability and battery life, 0.9.3 or 0.9.4? Thanks!
-Matt
.9.4, which is the most current version.
Well it took awhile to figure it all out, but I finally got my phone unlocked/rooted and updated to 0.9.4 LK kernel. Looking forward to seeing how the battery life changes . Thanks for the input everyone ^_^!

You're gonna find a lot of "feature rich" roms here. I tried them all. Even CM10 based roms. I was disappointed with each and every one of them. Almost all of them had bugs. These bugs might not seem significant to many of the people, but somehow they used to bug me the most because they were in the tasks which I used most. Battery life in almost all of the roms is just horrible. I was so disappointed with the roms here that I started spending more time on my Sammy note 8" and was contemplating changing my phone. I installed DNA-Super-Digital-2.07.605.1 710RD-v.1.0 as a last effort at using my phone at work rather than using my tablet as a phone. It's not one of those fancy roms, but trust me it's stable, gives the best performance and with awesome battery life. I don't know if it'll improve data speeds but I get constant 4G speeds all the time. Thanks MicroMod777 for this simple and stable rom

all CM based ROMs will have near the same radio performance. Also, I don't know when you've tried them, but most of the ROMs that are synched up with the current CM repo have very few bugs left.
if you're looking for the best radio performance i suggest sticking with sense, if you want a whole new (and in my opinion better) experience go with an AOSP (or CM) based ROM.
just remember to do a nandroid before flashing so you can always come back to what you had before if you're not happy

Coming from a Razr Maxx (3300 mAh), I feel extra sensitive to battery life between ROMs on the DNA(2050 mAh). But my experience had been quite opposite from yours...I get much better battery life on most CM-based roms when compared with Sense roms. I have the best luck with Slim rom, and Carbon - although carbon isn't actively built anymore. But Viper 2.0 (Sense 5) has been pretty impressive as well.
It's completely a personal choice. Do a full backup, flash an AOSP, back it up, try a Sense rom, rinse and repeat. New roms and rom updates are coming all the time.
