[REQUEST][BOUNTY]Proper j2me Emulator - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The title says about all there is to be said. I think it is high time android has a proper Java mobile (j2me) emulator. I know about jbed, but it doesn't run on 4.x, and lacked essential things such as soft key emulation. I am personally willing to pledge at least $20 to anyone who makes the emulator, and I am requesting that others who would find this app useful do similar. Let's get started!
I've never actually done a bounty before, so advice is appreciated.

So am I the only one who thinks this is a good idea?
Sent from my YP-G1 using Tapatalk 4 Beta

this is a GREAT idea. I can't believe there is no java emulator for our top android phones...
android is so powerful and I really would like this kind of thing.
I would love to be able to play my games from older phones still :/
this is something I would pay for

I would also pledge at least 20$ for a workin emulator.
On a note....my wifes XPeria Pro seems to run java file...at least those from the sony store. The phones running 4.01.

Sure I would throw in $20 for a proper emulator.
Have you tried Netmite App Runner? I hear good things. It converts Jar/Jad files into APK.

Unfortunately I've never gotten netmite to work. Thanks for your support, even though this idea doesn't seem to be taking off like I was hoping it would.

I actually think this is a profitable idea, even if not many people show interest on this forum
I wish I could do this myself

Hi,
thisi s very different to bebot, unfortunately. It's a nice starting point, but it's so far...
wow, i had searched for the bebot for iphone. It's looks good, hope it comes to us.
Help me! I'm so close to buying an iPad JUST for the BeBot app. Theres absolutely no musical synth like it in an Android app or even in straight musical hardware (short of a Haken Continuum, which with the required keyboard sound module costs between $6000 - $8000).
I'd love to see something comparable for Android. Or maybe if enough of us poke the developer with a stick they will make an Android version...
(can't post links, Google Normalware BeBot for developer's site)
I really don't want an iPad as a tablet. But if theres no other way to get this app, I may not have a choice.
Synth2
Sorry for posting in such an old thread.
I have been working on a similar app for Android for some time. I just release, what I call, a Beta version of it. It doesn't have the animations and the settings are quite different. Try it out! I call it "Synth2". All feedback is, of course, most welcome!
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to post links, but here is the URL: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.mejf.synth2
Just letting you know..
I didnt found bebot on android, but i found this >> MorphWiz-Play

The only way well see it on Android is if the developers port it to Android. Until then it will remain on iOS. There is no iOS > Android emulator.
but i might check it out on my iPod touch when i get home. Or play Plants v. Zombies.
well hopefully there is a developer reading this that is able to port it over. Please and Thanks!
I saw the title of this thread and got worried, but then i realized they would never let anything x rated into the app store.
i have the game but not sure if i can share it bc it might be a warez

For android? I didn't see it anywhere. If its free, as in, you obtained it legally and it didn't need to be paid for, feel free to share. If you're not sure, pm me some more info and i'll check it out.
Bit torrents Mann..guess illegal?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App
Yeah, that's considered warez.
I've been trying to find it in any legit channels and haven't had any luck at all. I'm not doubting you, but it doesn't appear to exist for android. Have you actually used this and know that it works? If so, I'll keep looking.

PFroyjr, das harshly put man, (OUCH) hey A.D. , the best way (in a mannerable way of saying wat pfroyjr jus said man) , is to do the old fashioned trial and error! The BEST advice I can give (because I will be using it also) is to find "Android Development for Dummies" , you can either download the PDF (legally or illegally is your decision) or go to a library and find it (download is your best bet, though.) It gives very in depth info on android deving, and is a great help! Otherwise, you can download a kitchen (go to theunlockr.com and search android kitchen, or search the XDA forums for one that somebody created) and start cooking lol.! Hopefully, ur gonna git a magnificent dish. I doubt that we use the same phone but you hav my support 100% from one dev in training to another

Sorry it was an off day LOL. The for dummies book is good but the biggest issue I see people learning dev is Linux. Pick up a good book on Linux and setup your pc/mac with the appropriate software. Best of luck and if you have any specificquestions I know there are lots of great people here to help, but Google first

I disagree...unless your doing something with the kernel you don't need linux at all.
sent from my uncyanogen modded epic 4g. with the key skips.
You still need to understand how the system works. Side note since you mentioned kernels....most newer ROMs have certain kernels that work and some that don't. The dev process is about learning how it ALL works not just how to theme a ROM someone else made.
No offense but any moron can follow directions on how to modify someone's work and not know HOW it works. True talent is by understanding and creating something new and original even if based on someone else's idea.
Hence I say learn Linux at least enough to understand

I agree with the both of them. Windows and Linux are like riding a bike vs. Riding in a car, its like 2 completely different ways of getting to the same thing, just one is faster than the other! Now my only objection to pfroyjr's statement is that http://www.cygwin.com gives windows the main pieces of Linux! I have yet to use it, but from what I understand, its probably gonna save you a couple of Gigs in PC memory vs. Partitioning your hard drive to dual boot or installing a virtual machin via Virtual Box! Unless you are talking about learning how to build a rom all the way from planting a seed to watching the tree grow, you probably don't need to know every piece of linux! Also, with the help of various things like APK manager (which breaks down the compiled XML files for editing using a regular text editor, rather than some complicated software) the sky is the limit when it comes to theming!
So, to sum up my statement, and kinda piggyback on what the other 2 said, if you just want a slightly different LOOK, then Linux is not necessary. But if your trying to take the future of ROMs to a whole new level, you either need Cygwin or, as pfroyjr said, Learn Linux!

Making a launcher is not something you should be attempting for your first app Even if you do already know quite a bit of Java, a launcher is pretty complex. Start with more basic stuff and work your way up. Anyway, there are already dozens of launchers; are you sure your idea is better than all of them? Or at least unique enough from all of them to be worth the effort it will take? (Not trying to discourage you, just want to make sure you don't waste your time)

Considering you just said you don't know ANY Java, I highly doubt you will reach that point within the next year, at the very least. After that, consider how no one else has been able to create what you want, despite there being many people who DO know what they're doing trying to do so.
In all honestly, you are FAR better to find some decent theme for an existing launcher and work on improving that theme to the point you want it.

Why build your own App from scratch?
Why are you wanting to build an App from scratch? Apple have made it a complex process with loads of hoops to jump through.
Have you considered buying a clone app or someone elses ready made app and the playing around with its appearance? It'll save a lot of headache. It's one of the reasons why I setup TwistMob which enables new Devs to buy or sell existing Apps.

Make an app for the nexus q that adds chromecast support

I THINK THIS IS THE IDEA OF ADDING THE SDK SO DEVS CAN BUILD THE Q INTO A POWERHOUSE WITH 4.3 LOL
LETS HOPE SOME TALENTED DEV HERE WOULD LIKE TO EARN SOME OF OUR DONATIONS TO DO SO.
Whoops sorry about all the caps!
I would def donate for this cause

i agree, i'd be interested as well. i'm actually looking into how the chromecast works right now, doing a rom would be an interesting idea. for the next 2 months i'm away from my Q, but maybe until then the google tv developers have a better understanding of how the chromecast works. the easiest and most optimal version obviously would be to have an apk that could just be installed and run on the Q, since apparently the chromecast is android based (stripped down though).
I don't really have the time to, but someone should start one of those android bounty type drives and advertise it to the community/ news sites.
I would be willing to play $50 to kickstart the bounty pool for anyone who can bring chromecast support to the Q, and restore it to its former glory.
I think the biggest thing to make people hesitant is the possibility of google doing it and making all the work useless.

I don't see that happening at all. Google could care less about the Q and even if it's only matter of an hours work for them it's not worth it. The only people having the Q got it for free.
The way I see it, this has to be done by the community. Lots of developers has the Q, hell cyanogen even has a rom for it. I bet getting the Q to chromecast is much less work than making a rom for it.

My bounty comment stands either way, I say we should make a real thing of it.
I'm sure some developer would see it as a simple weekend project and pump it out if there was a cash incentive.

I'll donate to anyone who figures out and posts instructions and files for me to turn my Nexus Q into a much more stylish Chromecast.
i'll just quickly leave this here for reference: https://developers.google.com/cast/
it seems though that it's necessary to inspect a chromecast (or at least the binaries for it) to get a better understanding of how it works.
edit: http://www.reddit.com/r/chromecast might also be a good source for information.
can we get someone to create a thread and keep a tally of users and donation amounts?
then we can maybe pass that to the android news outlets / social media to garner some attention to it?
I stick by my previously stated $50.
