cwm 6.0.3.2 cant find external sd card - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello
I have looked all over the internet and cant find a answer to my problem. I have a i9300 16 gb. with super nexus rom installed. I want to do a complete wipe with the scripts from here. I have transfered the files to my external sd cards but when i reboot into recovery mode it cant mount the external sd Card. I have tried formatting it to fat, fat32 and exfat non of it Works. I have noticed when i browse to the Card on the phone the sd Card is located at /storage/sdcard1/ and when it want to mount it writes /extarnal_sd/. Can that be the fault? if so how do i change the mount route.

No, external_sd is normal for recovery. No problem there.
EXFAT not really supported. Fat32 is best. You could always replace cwm with philz. Recovery. Its based on cwm but much better

i will try that. is the best way odin or just flash it with cwm?

I always flash recovery via odin. Something just feels wrong to me flashing recovery from recovery. But it is possible yeah

Just tried philz did not work either. I also tried the free browser funcktion but it said it was not a valid folder. Any other suggestions?

Reformat the card again

I tried but did not Work (only tried fat32) . I can see the files when i use root file manager.

When i use the free browser i get:
E: unknown volume for path [/sdcard1/]
e: Cannont mount custom path [/sdcard1/]
E. You must first setup a valid folder
E. Switching to default mode
E: CanĀ“t mount /external_sd/

No idea then, sorry

I tired TWRP and it worked, so problem solved

Not do much solved as worked around. All recoveries should see your sd card

E:can't mount /sdcard/

I installed cf root earlier..after I installed it it boots into recovery and says waiting for sdcard to mount(20)..(19)..(18).. etc.. but it fails.
Now when I go to install zip from sdcard it says E:can't mount /sdcard/
Any ideas?

Afaik Recovery cannot install from exFat, make sure the SDcard is formatted in any of the supported filesystems
(EXT2,EXT3,EXT4,FAT32 and possibly NTFS depending on kernel)
Cf-Cwm 1.5 works normally for me with a sandisk 6rgb sd formatted in exfat.

I'm not using a micro sdcard..only the internal memory..I tried flashing an older version of cf root but still the same

You cannot install zip from SD card if you dont have an external sd card
Try using the "choose zip from internal sdcard" as thats all you have.
Thank you lol, it must be the updated version of the recovery..the one I had before was just choose .zip from sdcard. That option works thanks
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Yeah it should be
"Install zip" and within there there is "choose zip from SD card" and "Choose zip from internal SD card". Older versions of Recovery did not have the internal option. Although the version I got when I rooted did have, several weeks ago.
Yeah I was rooted a couple months ago but had to send off for a new phone..so cf obviously updated it and I didn't realise

Try /mnt/sdcard/ ?
I got around the same problem. I install a zip via internel SD card like you guys say and now my Galaxy S III won't turn on. It is just standing and loading.
I can go into download mode and recovery mode but in both mode I can't do anything because my phone can not mount SD card.

Which rom are you flashing?
Boot loops are often fixed by doing the following:
Go into recovery and do format system/factory reset, clear cache and then go advanced -> clear dilvac cache.

The same problem happened to me since the motherboard of my phone is replaced due to the failure of external SD card reader.
I have a Galaxy SL i9003 and previously I was able to flash any ROM on my phone via CWM recovery.
But since the motherboard of my phone has been replaced by Samsung Electronics, I'm unable to do so. /* The only advantage I got is the internal memory of my phone increased from 4GB to 16 GB.
But since then, I'm unable to flash any ROM. Whenever I try to do so, I get an error message in CWM recovery, "E: Error mounting SD card" or "E: can't mount SD card!". When I try to choose from external sd card, it again shows "E: Error moung SD card!".
I'm stuck.. please help..!
Any luck?

plug it into a pc and see if your internal sd card needs to be formatted. either in 4ext usb mode or while the rom is running.
It's because he flashed a stock ruu and tried jumping to a custom rom without allowing it to boot for the first time, sso reflash the stock ruu and allow it to boot at least once.

[Q] CWM Recovery Problem

Hello guys, this is my first post here so don't be tough with me
First of all some info:
Model:Galaxy SIII GT-I9300
ROM: Android Revolution HD 15.2
Kernel: Perseus 26.1
CWM: 6.0.1.2
I recently updated normally into ARHD 15.2 and everything was normal. But after I booted up into recovery mode I noticed that those lines were on the screen:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I searched and read many threads in order to find the best and the most suitable solution but I couldn't find anything helpful. The main problem in almost every thread was that the phone had a bootloop.Fortunately, I don't have that problem. My phone boots normally.I also tried to wipe cache partition and dalvik cache in order to find any more errors but nothing appeared and my phone booted normally updating android apps.I found the thread below but I don't know if I have to do all this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10878511&postcount=8311
So any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you tried flashing cwm yourself with Odin? I know it probably comes with your ROM, but try flashing the latest cwm (same version you have, i'm sure) with odin
Let me know if that does anything.
Thanks for the reply mate
Last night I unmounted and mounted ext sd card again from inside the phone..Then I booted into recovery and everything was back to normal.I dont know what caused the problem though.

Lol that's weird.. Well at least your phone works now! What kind of micro sd u have? If it's the 64gb exfat, I know Cwm doesn't respond to that at all
I am using the same rom and had the same problem . It happened to me after i deleted the recovery log file on the external sd card

Hi
I'm facing the same issue: Can't open /cache/recovery...
I already tried flashing CWM Recovery(lastest version) using Heimdall(1.3.1, 1.3.2 and 1.4RC1) and didn't work.
When using the CMW that I aready have installed, if I try to install a CM10.1 it show me up as installed, but when booting I got the previous ROM screen and freeze screen of death.
Ideas?
On the cache problem, try the solution that worked for the OP, unmount the SD card and boot again.
On the ROM issue do a full wipe and flash a stock ROM via ODIN to get you back to a good starting point.
As with every situation, backup your efs partition first.

Can't backup to external sdcard

I can't back up my S3 (fw 4.1.2) to external sdcard. I choose backup to extsdcard from the backup menu in cwm 6.0.1.2 but it says 'Can't mount backup path'. Ne1 have solutions to this?
Is it formatted in fat32?
Hi Glebun, I formatted my card internally with my phone. Should I format it with FAT32?
Yes. Formatting internally on stock-ish systems will result in Fat64 which is not only incompatible with Cwm but has several issues on it's own.
You may want to try to mount the sdcard's filesystem before backing up

I had the same problem, or at least similiar. Went to TWRP recovery instead,= no problems since.
Go here :
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hlte
and download the newest tar file and flash through ODIN.
Good luck.
Use twrp download the .img file and use flashify to flash it and no need for a computer. ....
