[Q] Custom ROM optimization? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a S4 on Verizon running CleanRom 1.6. I'm new to android so I don't know all the fancy lingo.
Here is my question, In my storage settings, it says I have 6.38gb in "system software" I feel like there is a lot of unwanted samsung/verizon app data in there. Is there a way to clean up the phone to get some of the storage back? plus is it normal to be running 700mb of ram all the time with a custom rom.
Thanks and sorry If this is a noob question, I searched, I promise

nope, i have the same thing in the exact same amount. i asked this question the other day... i have 9gb free though, and my sd card, so i am not worried about space, and the phone runs fast as hell.

It just seems odd there is that much space there, I had that much with touchwiz, is there some big apps taking the space up? I dont use that many Samsung/VZW apps.
Thanks, Glad I'm not the only one

That space is allocated. Regardless of the apps installed, it is the size of the partition.

By allocated you mean thats the size of it is weather its being used or not?

Yep. That space is reserved for the system.

Got cha, key word being "reserved" since its not considered free, so is there any way to make it allocate less?

When will we see App2SD built into roms?

Coming from an EVO4G, I've been pretty used to App2SD script being built into the roms and being able to load all my apps on sd for more space. When would we be seeing this on Evo3D? I realized that the custom recovery after S-off, I don't see an Partition SD type setting.

IMO the EVO 3d already has more than enough built-in space for apps

.....
I have an app for that!
Why?
The internal memory along with stock Apps2sd should be good enough.
I couldn't imagine needing it.
Just move apps to your sd card that aren't there by default in the settings

not the same thing, the built in one I have found does not work as well as the dt app2sd or the cm app2ext mods.
With a gig of storage and stock A2SD, you'll be fine. I never understood the hate for stock A2SD.
A2sd has one real benifit IMO. You don't have to reload everything after installing a new ROM.its all just there.

I'm really surprised at the amount of ROMS that we've gotten in such a short time. I can just imagine what it will be like 2-3 months from now.

thats not how it works... the data is saved to ext2/3/4 partition... not the entire install. if you wipe, you will still have to restore.
So here's what I do. I install TiBu, and install link2SD. I go to settings in TiBu, and make sure installs all to internal. Open up l2sd, and select ext4 (its what i use). Go into l2sd settings, and make it auto link everything. Reboot. Restore all apps with data with TiBu, and at the same time link2SD restores all...
However, I'm running into a problem with ROMs where I can't see the apps after reboot.

Question?

Is there an app that allows you to store apps on lets say a cloud and use them only online like the kindle because I dont like waste memory on my phone.
You have 2GB to install apps on, how many apps do you need?
Keep in mind that's not the same as your ram the phone uses when it's running.

Confused :/ apps barely make a dent in your phones storage. There's no reason to want to store them on the web.

Problem of free ram

Hi !
I got my Razr maxx on wednesday. I immediatly install MIUI 2.11.30 but I've a little problem. I have only 400mo of free ram after killing apps.
Is the problem only related to MIUI Rom ?
I love MIUI but if I only have 400mo ram I don't think it's a good choice
Thanks for the help.
(I'm fench, sorry)
400mb?
If so that's plenty.

He's serious. I get 250-300 free after i reboot and then it drops to 250-180 (stock ics). I think anything above 200-250 is great. Your lags have nothing to do with the memory. By the way try not to kill apps, the apps are supposed to be running with android and killing them consumes more battery.
Ok so thank you all ^^

Yea if have have 150 free you're in good shape. Above 200mb is plenty. Lack of ram is not the only thing that can make your phone laggy/choppy.

However, Android/Linux uses RAM far differently than Windows does (atleast older windows like XP). After Android is done running a program/service/process it saves that process in the unused space in the RAM. That way they don't need to be started from scratch should that process be run again. Storing does use up any more battery power than the RAM needs while empty, the cached apps can easily be purged at will (taking so little time that it's effectively instantaneous), and will definitely save time and battery if that process is run again. The adage to remember here is "Free RAM is wasted RAM".

[Q}Storage space and App2sys

First, in looking through the phone storage, 32g, I see a spot marked "other". It started out at 6g being used and is now up to 10. What is the deal with that and how do I clean it up? I've already removed most of the bloatware, but I have a feeling this is Rom related.
Second: Using Rom Toolbox I try to move certain apps to system from data, mainly my Power Toggle app. I get it moved but then I have to go back in and re-enable the notification widget portion of it. No big there. But after a reboot, the app completely disappears from the phone so I have to reinstall it from Play. Might this have anything to do with the S-on? Or is this related to it being the stock rom and not a custom?
Some ideas would be much appreciated/

No. never needed one with my LG Mytouch. I've had the original HTC Mytouch but the LG is my first time modding, if the difference of phones makes any difference.

Well unless your on a custom rom that allows write to system then whatever you change pertaining to the system will revert upon reboot.

Storage issues.

Ok so I have the 32gb model and noticed that I only have about 10gb free. After looking at all what I have which is about 5gb of apps and 3-4gb of pictures and videos. I also noticed that there is 10gb of OTHER?! What the neck is other? I'm rooted and on stock ROM. BTW you can get carried away with this awesome camera and ZOE feature! A Space HOG!!

i know on my phone that most of my "other" was roms and backups on my sdcard
I don't know about you, but my phone have about 25 GB free when I first bought it. Was so happy about that since all the software only took like 7 GB-ish. Considering how heavy sense is so incorporated. As for apps and picture managements, I have pod cast downloading everyday, 5 GB of random music from my library, just filmed my sister's graduation + a recent trip. As well as a bunch of other downloaded items from work. Still have 10 GB free. Lot's of space! I suggest using the cloud more often if you are very heavy handed on taking so much pictures / video. However, recently I flashed custom Roms so now I have even more space.
I suggest trying out CleanrRom 2.0 instead of staying on stock. The developer was kind enough to give us extra features, as well as freeing up more space. I hope it helps!

You can also try trickdroid - I was rocking stock rom rooted, then clean rom 2.0 and then trickdroid and so far, it's my favorite.

Right. "Other" from my experience are files that cannot be easily categorized -probably by file extension. I have seen this number increase and decrease depending on what I copy and remove from my phone.
