[Q] ubuntu for phones - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

Today saw the ubuntu for phones has been ported to the galaxy, someone could port it to our player (yp-g70): : Rir:

I neeed it too, I am thinking of swiching over to a galaxy nexus (which is only about $250 at amazon)
oh and the proper name for future reference is Ubuntu Touch

With all of the other ROMs that we have on our GP, I'm surprised we don't have Ubuntu.

If only the gnexus had expandable memory though.

I think the base of ubuntu isn't android.. And it'll be very difficult to port.. I'm wrong?!

Google doesn't need people porting it directly to Phones, this will harm the sales of Honey tablets...That's why ICS will unite tabs and phones.
I understand they do not want it on phones, But there are some decent tablets out there suffering the lack of sourcecode.
Also I recently noticed a flat out lack of any roms for a certain device

Perhaps ICS will be available for tabs and will run on the ones that currently have no honey support. But once they release it, devs can port it to phones, and they only want it on tabs, specifically the dual core ones.
It is a shame, The original Galaxy Tab was a wonderful device, Altho as a large phone it looks ugly as sin, Running honeycomb however, It certainly looks nice between the transformer and new tab 10.1 and 8.9

Windows and iOS on GTab possible?

Hi guys,
I have a weird question i was thinking about how it will be awesome to see Windows 8 on GALAXY Tab 10.1 so is there a way to use Windows 7 or 8 on GALAXY Tab 10.1 P7500 or evem iOS.
Thanks.

Definitely not ios apple would never allow that in a million years dont know about windows but I think the tegra 2 chip would pose problems

The on the iOS i agree 100%,but i really think the Windows 8 Tablet version would be good on the GALAXY Tab cause so far there isn't an Quad Core Windows 8 tablets anouncments so i think it would run smoothly on the Tegra 2 Processor specially cause it runs VERY SMOOTHLY on android.

the likely hood of a dev spending time to port over win8 is very unlikely everyone is all about ICS and making that play well with our tab.

Galaxy on fire 2 HD on Samsung apps??

There seems to be a gof2 available on Sammy apps for bout 600 INR... It says specially optimised for the Samsung galaxy s 3. Is this true? I thought that game was a tegra exclusive?
Non rooted gs3. (i know bout the chain fire app)
Hoping to make this work without rooting it

I just checked and it seems you are right.
I have not and will not buy it, that is a ridiculous price I'm my opinion, but if someone with a fat wallet wants to, it would be nice to see a comparison between this version and the Thd one

Jelly bean?

Read this in currents but am unclear about what the "Galaxy Music" device is. Anyone have an idea?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
I'm assuming it means the galaxy player 5.8 seeing as it comes with ICS. However if the GT-I9000 is on the list then the 4.0, 5.0 and the others may be getting JB

and the 3.6 gets nothing im sure!
Geez! JB would be the salvation for the Galaxy Player series.
Sent from a GNote all tricked out with BlackCNA, yes.
I'm holding out hope. These are great little devices, but they have so much untapped potential.
That music will be new device with 3 inch screen..so probably no JB for player

Can't post link sorry but it was list of devices getting jelly bean article on android police Site.

come on, we won't have any further support from samsuck on these not very popular devices.
Samsung To Launch Galaxy Music Phone

As for the hardware specs, the phone is expected to be a mid-range device with dual-SIM and single-SIM versions, Android 4.0 out of the box but will be upgradable to Android 4.1, 3-inch display, 850MHz CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB internal memory and microSD card slot and 3MP camera.

850MHz CPU?
seems like it has worse specs than our devices and still can have JB!
Was totally thinking those were weak specs.

Go and get yourself a Nexus 7, it's one of Canonical's targeted development devices.
I use my phone for making calls and other mundane but critical daily functions, so I am leery about experimenting with my phone; however, it's a different story with my n7 tablet. I can flash any available ROM and do unspeakable things to it and I am able to maintain my level of service for daily living.

There are two separate products.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...buntu-for-phones-coming-soon-to-galaxy-nexus/
Ubuntu for Android which was announced about a year ago or so.
Ubuntu for Smartphones was announced yesterday and is a different product.
U4A = a dual boot type environment. when you are walking around it's an Android phone...when docked it's a full fledged Linux OS.
U4S = a full fledged Linux OS...no android at all.
i would love to see this in action. i expect the Carriers to be a big hurdle. AT&T and Verizon will not want to give up control over the handhelds on their network. but just like the ISP has no control over your device's in your home, i hope the consumers can eventually push hard enough that the Carriers go the same route. but to date AT&T still makes the manufacturers lock down their devices and if they could they would revert back to the days when rooting your phone was illegal.
