[Q] Partial Brick? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
After using a CM9 rom for a long time I decided to try a cm10 nightly. I just flashed the rom in ClockworkMod and dont think I updated anything else such as boot loader. It boots, says "samsung galaxy 10.1, then I get the CM wheel rotating and it comes to a homescreen but says "Unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped" and I click "ok" and it just keeps coming up. I cant get to home screen or anything. I used to be savvy with flashing these diff roms but after I was on a stable CM Rom for so long I kind of forgot and didnt do it right.
Like I said my guess is I flashed a jelly bean rom onto a older kernel or boot loader, forgive me if I am using wrong terms here. I am sure it can be brought back but its been awhile since I did this stuff so any help is appreciated.
thanks in advance.
Craig

Did you make a full wipe i.e. system, data, cache, dalvik before flashing?

Boot to Download mode and Odin ICS 4.0.4 on the device first. That will give you the required bootloader. You can then root the device before you flash the JB. But you must do full wipes (format/factory reset, format system under Mounts/Storage, wipe dalvik under Advance) before the installation. For the installation, make sure your Recovery is the current one. I use CWM Recovery 6.0.3.2 especially if you wish to install CM 10.1 which is what I run. After the installation wipe cache and dalvik again before rebooting.

[Q] Won't boot, worked fine, then bootloop, now it freezes (using CM9 ICS Nightly)

Hi Friends,
Model Number - GT-P7510
I recently rooted and installed the CM9 ICS nightly rom using the noob video instructions (This included rooting with Odin, installing CMW recovery 4.0.0.4, then I flashed the ROM cm-9-20120624 Nightly and finally flashed GAPPS-ics).
I over clocked using the CM9 settings and everything worked perfectly for about a week, it was great. Then it just crashed while I was reading my email and began to bootloop. After reading for similar errors I rebooted to recovery and tried wiped the cache and dalvic cache, I wiped data and factory reset several times but nothing worked, always the same bootloop. I re flashed the same ROM and still nothing, after a while the boot screen would simply freeze instead of bootloop.
Then I connected to my PC, and did this to no avail. In fact it simply added to the problem by adding a yellow warning triangle while attempting to boot so I did the Oden thing again like the first time I rooted however I installed CMW version 5.5.0.4 instead thinking it might help but it hasn't.
One last point, when I attempt to wipe data/factory reset the tablet seems to freeze and attempt to reboot rather than say something like "success" as it would during a cache wipe. This maybe normal or it maybe the problem! who knows?
On that point, I would be very grateful if some of you could help get me to the point when my PC recognises the tablet so I can reflash a new ROM.
Thanks in advance,
Karl
I once got the same problem. The only thing that helped was to flash back the stock rom via Odin with the pit file. And don't forget to do a hard reset after flashing the rom. I'll just stick to the stock rom until the official update is getting released.

Questions go in the Q&A section
I think the best way is still to do factory reset, go back to the stock ROM first and try custom HC ROM until the official ICS is released.

[Q] Phone Won't boot after Jelly Bean, will if Restored but not Clean ICS...

I tried a Jelly Bean ROM today....but....Didn't like it....So I wiped, deleted cache, dalvik and flashed back my fave ICS ROM.....the device wont boot. Then I did the whole thin again and got the the "process com.android.phone has stopped" prompted and all I had was a black screen, nothing worked except the notification pane.....
I saw I had a restore image on CWM, restored....all works.....but I wanted a clean install to start fresh.
Suggestions? I want a clean install.
Thanks

very simple, just follow these steps:
1. Flash your firmware via Odin
2. Boot to recovery,
- Perform a factory data reset
-reboot phone
done.
Remember you must always do a factory reset when upgrading/downgrading android versions. You also need to flash the appropriate gapps.

CM installed and no booting now

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S I9000. I just installed CM. I just did it like described on Cyaogen wiki. FIrst I flashed ClockworkMod Recovery and then did a Faktory Reset and installed this file: cm-10-20121003-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip.
Now if I turn on the device it hangs in the Startup screen where it says SAMSUNG Galaxy S I-9000.
But I can still go to kernel and download mode...
I came from the MIUI Jelly Bean Release from brad heffernan .
Does anybody know what I did wrong and can help me doing it better? Would be very nice!
Greetings pete23
If you can still get into CWM recovery make sure to do another factory reset then wipe dalvik cache twice and then reboot the phone and hopefully you should be all good then

samsung sgh-i577 and cm10

I am trying to install cm10 on my Samsung sgh-i577.I have pushed the new cwm on the device go to install zip from sd card.cm10 will install fine when it boots it just hangs on cyangenmod screen. I have let it sit for 10 mins as they have said in the thread for the new kernel. Reboot and it still hangs what I am doing wrong? I am coming from stock ICS. Should I wipe factory data in cwm and wipe cache partition and wipe d. cache and then install?
I am sorry I left that out but I also flashed the latest gpapps for cm 10 I have tried this 6 times. And it just gets stuck at boot I have to go back to stock ICS. I have flashed AOKP,ROOTBOX,CM10 All get stuck
That happend to me too xS. Try what Sewrizer says :good:
I got it I wasn't wiping factory data as soon as done it worked fine but the android keyboard isn't working on cm10 it keeps saying has stopped working. And those are the files I was trying to use and thank you for your help.
I fixed it was the latest version of gpapps that was causing the problem

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10.2 stuck on circle

This is my first time trying to install this I have a Samsung galaxy s2 T989 And I'm pretty sure I've done it right. I factory wiped it, cleared the cache and the cleared the cache in advanced settings. It's been atlesst over 10min and its still on the blue circle just spinning around.
Can someone please help me?
When I installed cm10.2 for the first time mine done that. Best bet and worked for me is do a battery pull and reboot. If that don't push you past the spinning circle which I ran across you should reinstall the ROM again and it should boot up just fine. Hope this helps

You've bootlooped it. The T989 is a pain when flashing custom ROM's because the custom recovery's built in wipe doesn't quite work for it.
Keep this ZIP handy as you'll be needing to run it every single time you need to wipe data/cache and dalvik. Don't ever ever use any other means of wiping aside from this one until this issue is fixed. I've been doing this for a while and have flashed upwards of 20 ROM's on my T989 alone.
It's called Darkside Super Wipe.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
So, just put that ZIP on your SD card, along with your custom ROM and appropriate Gapps. Flash Darkside first (always) then flash ROM then Gapps. Then reboot and problem solved!!
Good luck!! :highfive:
So after putting that in my sd card. Install that and gapps and cm10.2?

Yup, install Darkside Super Wipe first, then install the ROM zip then Gapps. Then reboot!
Should I factory reset and clear caches first or no?

Nope, just run the Darkside Super Wipe and it'll erase all /system, /data and /cache partitions. And like the thread says, it won't wipe your SD card or EMMC.
Just make sure you don't leave the recovery without flashing the ROM and Gapps
Also, you should get in the habit of making backups. You can make them from CWM or TWRP's custom recovery.
Titanium backup is an application on the Google Play store that you should look into as well my friend.

Very finicky phone for customs. On mine I can get no ROM to fully load other than the stock Koodo 4.04, and CM 10.0 I flashed the latest radio for JB, darkside super wipe, flash custom rom, flash gapps, wipe dalvik. The same process for every ROM i try... still no success, 10.2 stays at boot. Dirty Unicorns starts boot, goes through the "optimizing apps" stage gets to the "starting apps" and reboots, lather, rinse, repeat. I've tried a few others, AOKP and some others. Still only Koodo 4.04 and CM 10.0 will fully boot. Not even the stock T-mobile 4.03 will boot (came with phone). Going to give JMT a shot, it looks pretty
