Hi everyone,
I was hoping I could get some ideas from the community on how to solve my problem with the HTC Locations app.
So, background. I own an Wind Mobile HTC Amaze 4G. Never rooted, modded, etc. I did unlock it when I first got it. It's not caused problems since.
I use the HTC locations app extensively and successfully. However, before a recent trip to New York, I tried downloading the newest maps by selecting the 'Get more' option. It started downloading, but somewhere along the way either my phone or the app shut down. The existing map itself works, but when I try to access 'Get More' and to to the 'my licenses and content' page in order to finish downloading it, I get the 'Locations has stopped unexpectedly' error and it returns me to the map. Whenever I restart my phone, I also sometimes get a network connection error download failed type message in my status bar generated by HTC Locations that I can only clear - it's essentially saying it could complete the download.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Correction: you flashed to Sprint firmware 3.56, and I'm going to assume you're not a Sprint customer and that you let Sprint's customizations run. What carrier are you on?
No, I am on sprint. Also text messenging and regular phone calls work just fine. I checked my MDN and MSID, they are all in there too. I loaded the newest rom on the HTC update page.
Error
What actually exactly happens?
Do you get a Incorrect Login/Password...or what?
That might help to begin troubleshooting (I had a similar problem)
When I enter a URL into the address bar of internet explorer, the lower bar begins to say Connecting, to Locating, and then an error stating that Page could not be found. Opera mobile gives me a similar error and so does Live Search. Currently there is no error 67 asking for user name and password.
One thing to note, when updating the ROM I didn't allow for customizations to run.
I found the solution, allow for customizations to run. I did a hard reset and let them run (sigh bogged down with bloatware). Now internet is running just fine.
I am a noob at this, but after doing some forum reading. Apparently sometimes data connections randomly kick off after updating the Radio and if you don't allow customizations to occur, then you have to run IOTA.cab in order to reestablish connections.
I am attaching the IOTA cab courtesy of a user at PPCGeeks in case anybody has a problem too
hard reset, let the customizations run, connect and do something online.
hard reset again, this time without letting them run.
Should have internet. If you dont mind resetting at least.
First off, I love my Atrix, but there are just a couple of small problems with it, nothing to major.
The one that I have not seen discussed here (maybe just my phone) is the market being wonky over AT&T's network. Here is what happens...
Ill be on AT&T's network trying to do things on the market like update an app or install a new one, but when I start the market up, it gives an error about not being able to access the network. The thing is though, I have a strong 3G signal.
My fix is annoying, but it works. I go to another app that uses network data and load something so it *establishes* a connection to the network, then, when I go back into the market, it works 100%. I was just wondering if this is a problem anyone else has had and if so what their fixes are?

I had this problem and here's what I did go to manage applications and click all filter at top(2nd from right) and clear the data and cache from all the google stuff like google services framework (also download manager, google backup transport) and then go to market and clean the data and cache. at this point when you tried to get your market it give you an error message but don't worry about that just give it a few minutes then turn on your wifi and connect to the market through wifi then from there turn on your data connection. If still getting error just reboot and should be fine with same original issue. Last go back and clear data and cache from market and hit uninstall updates. Wallah done. READ THIS BF STARTING. I don't know what part or all of that fixed it but that's the order I went in and that's the results I got you can skip right to the end with just the market clearing in on installing updates or you can do the whole process. Your call.

I am having the same exact problem as you and I use the same cheap solution...and the scary thing is that it sometimes just happens when using a browser too...it says that there is no internet despite the fact that I clearly have a strong signal that says h+...and the upload and download arrows disappear, not just fade to grey signifying no traffic....does anyone have a solution? Unrooted 4.1.57
Was just about to post this xD It's quite irritating.
I have an EVO 3D. Just this morning I tried the Perma-Temp Root process (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158400).
It worked perfectly, I gained root, it did overclock, removed bloatware all successfully, no issues during the process whatsoever. Now, however, after nearly 6 hours of my phone not going off even once (someone's always trying to get a hold of me), I decided to check it. I sent a text using Handcent and phone number 9230 pops up "The message could not be delivered due to a temporary network setup error. Please try later. Error 2128".
I rebooted the phone multiple times, uninstalled SuperUser, and tried again. Same exact error message. Then when I go to my Facebook app or weather app, or any app requiring a connection, they all fail. I went to Settings/System Update/Update PRL. It tells me "Error code 131". I can make actual phone calls, however anything that requires data won't work. Even when I enable WiFi, Facebook app and weather app do not connect, nothing does.. The PRL still doesn't update via WiFi, same exact error code.
The root is temporary I thought, so a reboot and all should be well? The day I bought it, I did accidentally doing the OTA. However, I followed all instructions to do the Perma-Temp Root Post-OTA instructions and it worked. I have an EVO 4G, that I've experimented with for nearly a year, I'm not a idiot, I consider myself semi-knowledgeable, however I'm no developer. The EVO 4G works perfect; same 3G signal trying to get to work on the EVO 3D. So I know it's the phone itself, not the network. As the phone still is stock ROM, root was only temporary, I could go to the Sprint store, but I don't want to, just in case they figure out I tried to gain root and this is some new defense by HTC. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Its a sprint issue, it wide-spread and it seems to be fixed now.
nation wide problem sprint rep told me they are working on it
Crap, I just factory reset the entire phone. It works now, but now I have to re-install all my apps, settings, etc...
Lmao Sprint and ATT&T tower wars UFC style
Has anyone seen this on their 4G LTE? I have seen numerous posts on numerous forums for older phones, but no one can seem to give an answer that works.
I experienced this error with the HTC weather widget just showing "current location" instead of the city I was in. However, even stranger, it seems that all my HTC widgets disappeared. I couldn't see any of them to add them to a homescreen anymore.
Even stranger, it would say the same thing on both WiFi and 3G. Most of what I read said it would work on 3G but no WiFi.
I tried rebooting, clearing data of the weather widgets, sync and location services, and finally even a factory reset from the settings menu.
None of those worked. Has anyone else seen this?
Ok, I even flashed back to stock RUU and I'm still getting this error. Any ideas or thoughts?
Check out this similar thread where I posted about what I believe to be the cause of it:

Where are you roughly located? Only asking because I'm trying to see if it is because of upgraded software/hardware and different tower locations.

I'm around Knoxville, TN.
I just started having this same problem about a week or so ago. It used to show the city I was in and would instantly update whenever I was in another city but now it just says current location, and when I try to manually update it gives the "unable to contact location service." I thought maybe since the towers in my area were getting updated, that could be the reason why. I am rooted too, though I don't think that would have anything to do with it.
Does anyone else have an issue when refreshing the stock weather widget with the current city selected? I always get the error "cannot retrieve current location" and every now and then after numerous attempts it might work.
I have gps and sync on, so not sure whwts up
Is the widget set to update? Open it, go to settings and make sure it's checked?
I've gotten this a number of times. It eventually corrects itself, but it is kind of a pain.

Mine did so I set my location manually. Now I have my manual location 1/2 and "current" 2/2. I deleted the manual and its been fine ever since.

I read this thread because I was having the same problem and I tried it one more time it worked. I seriously tried it a ton of times and it just now worked. My only advice is to keep trying.
Location Services/ Weather Widget
Howdy:
I stumbled into this thread since I was having the same difficulty with the stock weather widget. (AT&T's version of the LG Optimus G)
It was set to update, I had enabled location services but still got 'Cannot retrieve current location' when either updating
or attempting to set 'current location' as the location from the enter cities dialog.
I rebooted the phone, tried again and this time was prompted to enable Google location services and at that point
got a consent dialog asking permission - I think the first time (This is a new phone) I might have declined permission.
After this, everything seemed to work OK
This may or may not be the issue you're encountering but since it solved it for me I thought it might help someone else in the same boat.
Thanks and hope that helps.

I had all of the locations set and it would only update when I was on wifi. I moved on to another widget that works. Found a cool transparent one from lg smartworld.
