[Q] Flash a dead Lumia 920 - Nokia Lumia 920

Is it okay to flash my Lumia 920 that's out of juice, no battery? I keep trying to charge it, left it plugged in 5-6 hours but the problem is it just keeps going into some kind of bootloop, I just see the Nokia logo for a few seconds then turns off then on again. I've tried soft and hard reset then it'll just show me the battery logo that I need to charge it. It heats up as well when I recharge it but it just won't actually charge, tried using different chargers as well. I just don't know what's wrong with it.
Also I'm not quite sure if I got the right firmware for unbranded yellow Lumia 920 from Finland...
Thanks all for your time.
*EDIT: So I can't flash it as it won't charge... Just keeps showing low battery logo.........

Try another charger. And please do state what caused the bootloop

Already tried different chargers, even wireless charger, but it just keeps going on/off when plugged in. I really don't know what caused this bootloop but what happened first is I can't open default apps, Messaging, Settings, Camera etc. when I turn it off and turn it on again or try a soft reset that's when the bootloop starts. I tried doing a hard reset (volume up-down-power-down) I'll see the spinning gears but it would still go on/off after that.

Never do a hard reset on a 920. It corrupts the file system.
I will see what can be done, besides sending it to Nokia Care

WP8 has different 'service' modes, you will see a big exclamation mark, or a combination of a gear and lightning bolt, then you will need to (remove a battery or) press the Volume Down + Power Key and hold them for about 10-15 seconds.
Answer
If your phone is unresponsive, or it gets stuck showing Nokia logo, then try this: Press and hold both the Volume down and the Power keys for 15 seconds. This should get your phone to restart properly again. If this does not help, then follow next steps to perform OS reset.
Warning: Resetting your phone will return it to the same state it was in the first time you turned it on. All your personal content in the phone, including text messages and apps that you been purchased and downloaded (may be re-downloaded again) will be erased, and the phone will be restore to the factory settings.
Here are two options to follow, depending on whether you can access your phone's settings screen or not.
Option 1: About menu
•Use this option if you can access your phone's settings.
•This option warns about data loss.
On the Start screen, swipe left, select Settings > About > Reset your phone.
Option 2: Hardware key combination
•Use this option if you forget or lose the password.
•Use this option if the phone fails to fully switch on when pressing the power on key.
•Note: No warning about data loss!

search at my threads. I have uploaded the manual for disassembly

Here is a pretty nice tutorial...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKd8tCAH-eY#t=123
basicly you only need to unscrew the two (torx) screws on the bottom, and the back comes right off...
i dont think there is a way to determine if the back ever got opened or not, if you are gentle with the copper piece of course
btw.: the 920 is the repair friendliest (smart)phone i've ever seen

[Q] Cherry Mobile Superion won't turn-on

Hi All,
I have flashed EUViewPad 7 based on Stock rom. installed SD Card Booster, CPU Master and etc.
The flash is fine since I managed to boot it and install several apps.
Until I needed to reboot the device since the hacker keyboard always forces to close. I rebooted it and poof I am in infinite boot animation without a way to remove the battery. afraid to fiddle just waited the battery to drain so I can test again(This happened on my O1. just removed the battery, put it back and its ok)
I have drained the battery after almost 8 hours of non stop boot animation. But this device won't turn on anymore. It just vibrates when I press the on button.
Tried opening the back(crap I have scratched the back covering. now it has large scratches ) but the battery is taped . My question folks is what is the possible solution to my problem aside from removing the battery(can't even get to clockword recovery)
Thanks
Not too sure about your device, but doesn't yours have a reset button like the viewpad?
Should be a small hole on the bottom edge right next to the microphone.
Try pressing that with a paperclip if you're having boot problems.
Anyway, if you've drained the battery completely, make sure to leave it charging for a little while. Too low battery voltage will make it unable to start. 15 mins or so should be more then enough.
Try starting with both volume buttons + power pressed. Keep holding it until you see "entering recovery mode."
Let me know if this gives any results.

Ahh I have that reset button beside the microphone hole. Will try this later on. Thanks for your help and for your custom rom
Uh oh... Tried pressing the small hall beside microphone, pressed on button. No luck. tried pressing that hole and on at the same time No luck again.
Is it possible that it will mess up the whole boot process due to boot animation loop??

I'm afraid and it sounded like, from your descriptions, that the boot process has been messed up .... so, what do you got to lose by trying to "wake" it up or at least respond to commands, right ?
Try holding the power button & use a small pin to press RESET - leave it connected to the power supply/charging unit.
Try holding both volume Up & Down key & use a small pin to press RESET
Try holding both volume Up & Down key along with the Power button at the same time, and press RESET (you might want to get someone to help you to this)
Try holding the volume Down (left) key & Power button, and press RESET with a small pin.
Does any of these work in getting the screen to show life, be patient as you might have to hold it for 10 to 30 seconds before it cycle & restart/display the 3 birds ...
Chances are you will need to flash a stock ROM with the SULT3 utility, and then if successful, root it again & start over (carefully) - it might work or it might not even connect via usb at all .... worth a try, got nothing to lose at this point.
As a last resort, contact Cherry Mobile and get it repaired & sending it back to the shop .... check the warranty details in your locale, opening the rear case & exposing the battery, might or might not void your warranty coverage.
Hi Letiride,
I have tried the combinations you have specified but no avail. I can't boot this so my PC with correct drivers cannot even recognize i plugged this.
Is my Tablet already bricked?? I have bought this second hand so no warranty already.

Oh mine, no - if it won't power up or boot into Recovery or FTM mode, I'm afraid it's critical if not officially certified "paperweight". Try uninstalling your PC's usb drivers for the device, or use another computer & install SUTL3 utility from Viewsonic, and see if it can at least beep & signal some USB sequence loading the drivers.
Here's a link to Droid Explorer posted elsewhere in XDA (instead of pointing you to "Search" for it) Install it if you can get the yours powered on, but use it with care as it's a very "powerful" tool to explore all the hidden workings of the Android device(s).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=558108
My feeling is that the core image & boot file(s) were corrupted, damaged & overwritten, and it need to be reformatted & reflashed from a stock *.nb0 file, someone with adb might be able to - maybe, just maybe - rescue it.
Let's see if one of our fellow developers might have a better solution on where to begin b/c this is about as far as I can offer - well, you can always put on eBay for parts & hoped you didn't spend a lot as 2nd. hand.
Uhhh looks like i have no other choice but to have this repaired at service center and pay

Can't get into download mode via button combination

My issue is as stated as above. I presume my phone has this feature disabled, making this phone near useless for me.
Tried having phone completely off and holding down volume down + home + power like in the videos, to no avail.
I've come from a Galaxy 3 which automatically started up download mode during the boot sequence.
Is there a way to root my phone without Odin or enter download mode with another method? Can't use "reboot download" in terminal as it's not rooted.
I haven't found any topics quite like my issue here. My phone is a international Galaxy III with label being exactly I9300. Any help is appreciated.
You could buy usb jig that will sort it iv never heard of this issue ever

Interesting, atleast there's something to fall back on if there are no other solutions.
Postage to New Zealand would be horrendous.
Please confirm it doesn't work in the following order.
- Make sure you have no case on the phone.
- Power off the phone
- Unplug it from the charger
- Remove the battery for 30 seconds
- Press and hold Volume-Down and center hardware button.
Make sure both buttons are proplery pressed, and the center button is pressed in the middle.
- Press the power button, and release it when the logo appears. Keep the other 2 buttons pressed
- Wait for it to boot
If it doesn't work, try repeating 2 times starting at the top.
If it still doesn't work something is faulty. Check if all the buttons work as expected.
Thank you very much d4fseeker, the battery out was the crucial thing I was doing wrong.
It shouldn't be necessary (and usually isn't) but I've seen on multiple occasions that Samsung phones sometimes don't react to the Download mode or Recovery mode when normally powered down.

[Q] Need a little help with my 920

Hi guys, I'm just wondering if someone can help me with my new 920. I bought it from EE UK on pay&go just over a month ago and all was great but then a couple of days ago I started getting problems, I'll list them out in order of what happened.
1, firstly my tiles stopped updating. facebook messenger stopped working and whatsapp stopped all at the same time.
2, with this my 920 started getting a huge battery drain.
3, I turned it off and on and performed a soft reset with power and volume down buttons but this did not work.
4, I then hard reset my 920 but I had the spinning gears for over 4 hours so to turn it on I had to use the power and volume button reset again which turned it back on.
5, So now it's back on I used my last backup of the previous day and all seemed fine until the battery drain came back.
6, I thought I'd struggle through with it and was looking through the music player and a lot of my tracks were not showing in the music player but when I plugged the 920 into my laptop and used windows explorer to have a look they were all there?
So by now I've had enough and started to use my old phone, but before I send it back for repair I was wondering if anyone here had any ideas because I really don't want to be without my 920 for a few weeks lol, also I've just hard reset it again and it only took about 10 seconds ? seems strange, what do you guy's think ?
Thanks all

[Q] S3 keeps restart itself

i got s3, suddenly it started to reboot itself all the time, what i see is only the samsung logo and then black, and samsung again.
the funny thing is that when i put the battery in, it automaticly start with this loop.
during the loop, when i press home+volume up, i can see the cwm screen for two seconds, and then it reboot again.
if i press home+voulume down, i see the warning in the stock recovery, but when i press volume up, nothing changed, and eventually after two seconds it reboots again.
i tried to connect it to my pc, but it dosen't show it in device manager, and have no indication that i connected it.
also, when i connect it the charger, i see circle, and then a battery for a brief second, and then the circle again.
is it simple hardware problem (stuck power button? even though it seem okay, but it may explain the automatic turn on), or half SDS?
anyway, are there any recommondations? i have'nt flashed it recently or anything like it.

If phone starts on battery insertion, before you push the button then yes, power button is shorted out.

Try leaving the battery out overnight/long time, it helped when I got my phone stuck in a bootloop. But that was due to oc/uv...did you try something risky, causing it to bootloop?
no, it was in regular use, nothing risky.
yesterday i dissassembled it and checked with multimeter, it seem that the power button shorting the circuit, so i ordered a new one, going to be a surgical operation...

The battery is taped into the case with double-sided tape - in other words, very gently pry the battery out (from bottom of battery) & leave it out for a minute or two. Then put it back in & try again.
Fixes for the Boot Loop/Frozen ANS UL40
American Network Solutions (ANS) mobile phones provided by Assurance Wireless (Virgin Mobile) have been known to boot loop, freeze, stay frozen, crash, (right out of the box, brand new) and worse there is inaccurate or completely wrong information on how to do a factory reset and reboot the device. Below I will outline how to reboot the phone and perform a hard factory-reset with no home button on this cellphone.
Problem: Phone won’t turn off, won’t restart, or is stuck on and has no removable battery.
Solution: Keep the phone on and unplugged until battery dies or perform a hard reboot (see below).
Problem: My cell-phone is stuck on and there is no home button to do a hard reset
Solution: Perform a hard reboot. To restart a phone without taking out the battery, simply hold the Volume Up button, the home button (do not press if there is none obviously) and the Power button at the same time. While you hold these simultaneously, the phone will reboot in about 5 to 10 seconds.
Problem: I can’t factory reset my ANS UL40 phone (American Network Solutions) from Assurance Wireless by Virgin Mobile because I can’t get into the recovery menu.
Solution: Turn the phone off (or do a hard reset by holding the Volume-Up Button and the On-Button. Phones with no home button all reboot like this so just wait a few moments and the phone will restart.
Problem: My new mobile phone from Assurance Wireless gets stuck on the loading screen!
Solution: Perform a hard reboot (Volume Up + Power) then when it restarts and you’re on the white Assurance Wireless screen, stop holding power and only hold Volume Up. Keep pressing-and-holding the Increase Volume button and after a while you will be navigated to the Factory Reset Menu. You can wipe the cache partition only or perform a factory reset (which will also wipe the cache). To move around on the menu, use the volume keys (increase volume goes up, decrease volume goes down) and to select your entry simply use the power button (the on button). If this still doesn’t work, see further instructions in the solutions below.
Problem: Phone is frozen on loading screen, stuck in boot-loop even after factory reset/wiping cache partition.
Solution: After you have factory reset or wiped the cache partition you can also choose to install an update from the internal memory or sd-card. If you select this option it will perform a more rigorous factory reset then since you won’t have a package to install it will cancel. I’ve noticed my device getting out of the boot loop once I did this process and it was stuck on the boot screen even after I did a factory reset.
Problem: Can’t get to the recovery menu with my government assistance phone.
Solution: Turn off the phone and with the volume up button held down, power the device on. Keep holding both buttons until you see the white “American Network Solutions” screen with the outline of an eagle. At this point release the power button and continue to hold the volume-up key. After about 5 seconds you will now be inside the Recovery Menu and can do a factory reset.
Problem: My phone has no home button and I need to hard reboot to get to the Recovery Menu and perform a factory reset!
Solution: Hold the Volume-Up Button and the Power Button at the same time. for at least 10 seconds. Your device will restart and after the white ANS screen shows, stop holding the power button. Continue holding the increase audio key until you are at the Factory Reset / Recovery Menu screen. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and use the on button to select your choice.
Problem: My phone hangs on the blue Assurance Wireless screen.
Solution: See Above.
Even on the Virgin Mobile and Assurance Wireless websites and in the owner’s manual it says to hold the Volume Up + Home Button + Power Key and to keep holding them until you’re in Recovery Menu. This isn’t going to work for two reasons on the UL40: 1) It has no home button! and 2) it will just keep rebooting every 5 seconds if you hold the power button down constantly. You have to hold the Volume-Up Button and the Power Button until the phone reboots and then let go of the power button while still holding the volume up button. Keep holding the volume up key until you’re into Recovery Mode.
I hope this helps as the information online is either incomplete or completely wrong. Some places say to keep holding the power button along with the volume up key and if you do that the device will just keep restarting, effectively creating a boot loop where there wasn’t any before. Genius! lol. I figured this out after my device, fresh out of the box, froze while charging on the blue Assurance Wireless screen. Finally OCD is good for something! These phones are supposed to be a “Lifeline” but I’d be hard-pressed to get ANYTHING on the line with this potato. Avoid at all costs unless absolutely necessary.
Enjoy. :highfive:

Enjoy. :highfive:

Great advice. Have had an ANS UL-40 for over a year, & they truly stink if you can't root them - which I can't since I've no computer access (for ADB). I honestly miss the old android Jellybean phones that could be rooted with just an app. Oh well.
I have a UL40, I tried the factory reset method, it reset but the phone is still suck on the blue assurance wireless screen.
Ps. It's been like this for days. It stays on the blue screen for about 5 minutes, then the screen is completely black. When I try to turn it on again, it's blue for five minutes then goes black.
Help...?
My ans ul40 keeps restarting. Every 2 to 5 seconds, on its own. I tried to factory reset it with the steps listed above and I can't tell if it works because when I hold the volume up and power button, it does two things, the phone will either shut off again and go into the constant restarting or number 2, it will show me a white screen as if to say the holding down of the volume and power button worked, but then it just goes back into the constant restarting... at this point I'm thinking I have to call for a new phone.
I have a ul40, technically 2 because one wouldn't hold a charge and now this one keeps crashing and giving me error codes. I can't afford to just drop money on a new phone (hence why i got this one) and I am FORCED to do a factory reset every 3-5 days because the memory gets so full, even if I erase memory, disable or delete apps and barely use it outside of texting or calling. Its frustrating to high hell. The code that shows up is either "GOOGLE SERVICES FRAME WORK KEEPS STOPPING", or "COM.ANDROID.PHONE HAS STOPPED"
Any advice is helpful advice.

i have a similar problem except it gets to the blue assurance screen and then it turns off and then reboots i can't fix it and i don't know what's wrong this is the only phone i have (don't laugh) but i can't not have this phone
Have you tried taking out the battery for a minute or two, then powering up? (Battery is only held down with tape - it can gently be pried out). The other option is a complete reset - instructions on holding the power & volume keys, etc, are posted already.
this phone seems to ship with a lot of malware factory-installed (and possibly more built into the firmware?) so it's critical to go into Settings->Apps and disable everything that looks suspicious, including the less obvious "notepad" app and "voice recorder" app. this should help your phone run somewhat better but there's some adware still running that i haven't figured out how to disable, so a perfect solution in theory would be to root the phone as discussed in this thread. unfortunately so far there doesn't seem to be a working root for this phone.
I did fatory reset from recovery until arrivet to let us go then skip sim then next as new device/retrive from cloud then lis of wifi appear and stop at this point nothing else appear to enter
what the solution please?????
