Keep ICS or move to JB - LG Optimus L9 P760, P765, P768, P769

So guys, I ll finally get my new love in the next couple of days and of course, I want it to be up-to-date, as much, as it can be. But most important for me is the battery performance. So my question is, should I move on to JB or keep ICS, as I read more bad than useful things about JB... or should I even move on to CM? Like mentioned before, battery is all that counts (and a fluid experience of course)
Thanks in advance

Well, ICS has the best of battery, but jelly bean has the easiest root.

I'm on YouTube (BioDesigner48)

if your main concern is battery life then you better stick with ICS. I flashed JB v20d and went back to ICS within a day. at the moment I'm testing JB v21b but so far it's looking like I'll be going back to ICS, again.. lol

Stick with ics of battery life is a concern. I have to plug in this phone everyday. Wait until the new version comes out

Imo when you tweaks from android development forum and you UV your CPU battery will be fine. I really don't know about battery in ICS cause I updated to JB asap but it works 2 days without problem (I don't play games though). CM still has mute calls so is unusable (but it looks like echo is fixed now so hopefully it will work soon) and battery with wifi on is terrible. For battery PACMAN is quite nice too, especially with wifi on which was optimised in PACMAN but it has the same audio bugs as CM.

For better battery ICS is best. and its fluid also.

Well sounds like ICS to me It ll probably taste good in the sun here Well maybe I can try to get some bugs fixed got some friends who are good at programming and I get some of it too, at least some C and C++. Well thanks for your comments and I bet, we'll see/read each other again soon

If you just ordered it it more then likely will come with Jelly Bean preloaded.

Since they paused the ota for jb I think it's highly unlikely that it will come with jb. ICS had my vote.

If it comes with JB, I ll probably see, how it runs and if I dont like it, Ill see, if I can downgrade. What about SFT? Does it work with your phone? Cause then all unlocking and rooting would be a piece of cake

I'm sorry I'm not certain what SFT means or stands for. I did use the easy root method from jcase which rooted it fine. I'm not interested in unlocking the bootloader as there is zero custom rom support for this device and I am happy with Jelly Bean and some rooted apps keeping running smoothly.

Well I like to be able to customize all of my stuff, as much, as I want to. Mine also came with JB (v20c). So I rooted, backed everything up, unlocked my bootloader and now I am about to customize this thing I gotta say, I am not really satisfied with the battery yet, but since it is day one, nothing to worry about lets see, how it goes in the following days. Sft means smartflashtool and I was able to use it for my last phone (LG Optimus Black) which was omap based as well. Maybe I ll give it a shot then noone would need the offline kdz workaround anymore.
Thanks for all comments guys, I think I already start to like my new android family

Which ICS ROM?

I am not new to putting ROMs on Android devices but haven't rooted my AT&T Note.
With nothing even being scheduled for release and June passing and now Jelly Bean already released, I am declaring my independence on this day and root and flash my phone.
Do any of the ROMs have the Samsung note ICS set of new tools like the YouTube video? Do any have nfc built in?
Thanks for the advice!

If you are familiar with flashing ROM's, then I'm sure you know that most Dev's post screen shots, sometimes video reviews, and detailed descriptions of what their ROM's have and don't have, what's working and not working.
It's hard for the general public to know what your exact taste is right? To each their own, as I always say.
Grab a beer, and start searching and reading through the Dev section. I'm sure you'll settle on at least one, if not two or three that you will want to try. I am currently flipping through 3 different ROMs. Backing up, and restoring each different one daily, playing around.
Seek, and ye shall find. Happy hunting!

Team Perfection UCLF5
Here is a link to my daily driver. I am new to flashing and have tried several of the ICS versions in the development forum but Team Perfections UCLF5 is my favorite. All developers have very clear instructions on flashing ROMS and usually post them on the 1st page of the thread. This ROM is very stable and has very few issues.
I recomend trying all of the ICS mods located on the the first page of the development forum.
Here is a link to my daily driver:

Hotwire's CM9 port is my favorite.

I've been using the semi-official leaks, currently using UCLF5 - it appears to have NFC built in, but i have no way of testing it. There's an option under wireless and networks to enable NFC, and it lets me turn it on and off.
I am on flap latest rom of UCLF5. Fantastic rom and it's been daily driver. Crazy smooth and NFC built in but I have no way of testing it unfortunately.
Each ICS rom is different and unique in their own way. Flash away and find out which one suits you.
I've used a number of ICS roms since they've been available.
Flap's was good up to B5. OnlyOne's is great. Hotwire's I couldn't get to sit right. Dagr8's AOKP/PA wouldn't sit right.
But CalcProgrammer1's direct port of CM9 nightlies is where it's at for me.
And NFC is built in to the rom and works perfectly.

Actually nothing funny abt it..will maybe a lil...but as to a seasoned individual they would then go to a pc, knowing they will need to use a pc to accomplish what they need/want to do, and if they could accomplish via the phone/tappy...they wouldn't be asking the question in the first place....ha ha ha... But thx for your attention to some what of a lack of detail... ...but why would this comment from you even be....? No worries... op did say "declaring my independence on this day and root and flash my phone."...unless you know a way to do this with the pc...I am all eyeballs and ears....

Some are using the same base for there rom, but they all don't have the same tweaks.
Jus sayin.
I know I am missing something obvious but that's newbism for you...I have been reading through the discriptions of various ROMs, I don't see any that specifically say they include the new sPen Samsung utlilities. Do all of them or is there a Note subset?
Still trying to find the right ICS ROM, all of them report that I will lose s-pen sensativity and none seem to have the s-pen ICS suite. I need both really.
Any ROM recommendations that will give me s-pen pressure, suite and NFC?
Thanks!

[U] Discuss the ICS update for Xperia U.

I'm sorry if this has already been posted anywhere, or if it's too early, but I would like to discuss the Android 4.0.4 ICS update with the few Xperia U owners.
I read that it might be coming in late August, do you think they will provide the update this early?
Nothing much more to discuss really.
I just hope they will give us an update as early as possible, pretty sure we'll get it in early September.
And it needs to be stable.
Sony Mobile Italy had mentioned that ICS comes in the first week of Aug. God knows!

I think the locked bootloader isn't a big problem. My U is blocked too, but when we get ICS (I think) we can root it, and so we can install custom roms. We can't change kernel, but we can make CM roms what are working with stock kernel. I will do this too
Hopefully we'll get it this month, I might also get JB for my Arc S!

In all fairness I somewhat agree with the OP just like anybody would. You would EXPECT a phone with these specs to come out the box with jb. Especially sense the x+ has it out the box and similar specs. But what can you do? For the most part enjoy what you got! Most of the time you been running the latest android os on your device before its released official thanks to the great xda devs!
But also you don't know who is watching these threads, so all the fighting and drama queen on here not going to make somebody with the time and patience to think twice about getting or developing on this device...

It's like LG/AT&T/Google decided to kneecap and half-ass both devices. The Nexus has no extra storage or LTE, this has no JB or wireless charging. If they had merged it all into one phone, it would have been a beast and I promise you it would sell better than anything on the market. Every one wins. But they had to mess with the wet dream. I would have to say no; otherwise it would have been done by now. Kernels are incompatible, can't use an ICS kernel with JB and vice versa. Pretty sure the kernel is the only hold up for us getting a whole bunch of new ROMs.

What he meant is that the Nexus 4's kernel is incompatible. We have a booting JB kernel for the Korean leaks that works fine. Problem is, we don't have source yet, so devs are limited in the resources for either porting the Nexus 4 kernel, or building JB roms until we have source, then it will be a lot easier.
And basically that won't happen until we get JB for stock? Damn all these terms are so confusing lol

Nope. Here. So right now we have the Korean JB leaks, and they boot. Devs can try using that kernel and what else we have to build JB, but that is hard. We can also try and port the Nexus 4 stuff, but once the source for Korean JB comes out we can work on JB and build it much easier. We don't actually need JB on our phones, or any phone, just JB source from Korea, US, or whatever comes first.

Like nygfan said above me, we could get the update and still not have the source. The source is the raw, unencrypted file(s) that the kernel was built from. Without that, it is tough to do much with the kernel because we can't read it.
(somebody correct me if I am wrong, that is how I have always understood it.)
So here's a questions I've been thinking about. I want to root and install Nocturnal so I can get de-bloated, Google Now, etc. However, I don't want to be stuck on ICS if JB is officially released in the U.S. prior to a CM or other JB based custom ROM (I know sometimes allowing an OTA can mess up your root, or at least I think I know that). So here's the question: Should I go ahead and root / install Nocturnal? Or is there a possibility that we will get a JB OTA prior to a custom development? Grassy Ass!

I would suggest rooting.
You can enjoy all there is for now in Noc and we do not know when the JB update is coming out.
Any OTA's will probably break root, but usually a dev can take it and root it before it is installed and make a .zip.
Most likely we will actually see JB sooner on rooted devices than stock ones (assuming there is a leak that will work on ours).
If the OTA DOES come out sooner, I give it a week before a .zip is posted... and that seems too long to me.

Like nygfan said above me, we could get the update and still not have the source. The source is the raw, unencrypted file(s) that the kernel was built from. Without that, it is tough to do much with the kernel because we can't read it.
(somebody correct me if I am wrong, that is how I have always understood it.)

Right, without kernel source it's just basically changing values based on guesses with a few bricked devices in between. We could probably get JB without JB software source if we just had a good JB kernel for our device. We could always port JB, much harder to port a kernel.

Grassy Ass!

I'd just go for installing the custom ROM you want now. If you have to you could always LGNPST back to stock and get the official JB update.

Yeah ICS/JB one the original galaxy phones used a modded gb kernel. JB isn't too far.

So would we be able to run a CM version of ICS? Like CM9 for example?

yeah, that shouldn't be that hard. I'm a little shocked we don't have a version yet. Oh well, I can't do it, so I guess I'll just keep my trap shut about how easy it is, eh?

And here I was hoping for cm 6.
It may be possible, but I know cm does build their own kernels...
So probably not officially.

Someone was working on one, but it's tough without official cm support.

Right, if we can get sources our chances are better (I believe), but heres to wishing whoever is working on it the best of luck.
Then again, I really do like stock.

Non Fully Working Roms

I was wondering...
Why do people crave so much non fully working roms?
Do they think: "In my actual rom everything is working and bug free, I got to flash a non fully working rom full of bugs so i can have a lot of work trying to get it to run like my old rom."
Is that it? Sorry but i don't get it.
Don't get me wrong, i'm a sucker for new roms and mods, but if they are not fully working, why bother?
And when i say, non fully working, i mean wifi or camera don't work, not tethering and some other useless crap.
Sorry, i had to get this out of my chest.
Tell me what you think about this subject?

Everyone has different preference upon the choice of ROM. Some people like you prefer stability, other people prefer using new features & improvements and walk around and showing off - "hey I got Android 4.3 on my phone".
So let's not make a big deal about it. We are just different kinds of people.

Please show me 1 user that doesn't like stability in his rom
The only one making a big deal about it, actually is you
And now imagine that everybody will use only stable roms... Who will test the initials, who will report bugs... Remember, before stable rom was always an initial release and couple of versions.
Im using cm10.1, altough some bugs which dont bothers at all and i dont use the features. Its awesome rom and Im learning myself what to do in development thread. Without using unstable roms i will know much less than now.
This is my point of view.

We call those people beta testers, you're missing the point of my topic.
I'm talking about people who want stable roms but keep choosing buggy and under development roms and after that keep complaining to the devs about the bugs.
Understand now? Or do you need a picture?
Please dont speak on behalf people here. People can speak for themselves. You call them beta testers i call them users. Im not testing anything, im just using it. And im always excited when new version coming in. You are missing point of this forum. Its about developing and this process is endless. And non of the roms is really stable, there is always a situation when something happen and new fix or version is released.

Hey man. Let me mention you something. This thread is non-sense, too. They said development and it is development and you are using the developments of android devices. Android is open-source so everybody can modify it. If you don't like it, then don't use it. XDA didn't promise you to make your phone looks good. It is just developments from the amdroid/linux developers and they didn't promise you to get a full working ROM. They already mention the bugs. Some prefer CM Roms instead stock ROM. Some likes to see new adventures. So, if you're not part of this, you can leave just by now. This thread is useless and also disrespectful to some developers. Development isn't "The ROM to make you satisfy". So be it.

I think you didn't get the point of life and diversity of our world. You know, i don't like cucumbers and think they are awful. Do you like them? If you do, then, following your way of thinking, i should ask, why some people do like cucumbers, if they are awful in my view? They must be crazy and insane!
In fact, no, they are not insane. They are just not the same as me and they prefer different things. And it's beautiful, because if all people were the same, life would be too boring.
So, you need to understand that people are different and stop expecting everyone to feel the same as you. Feel free to use only stable ROMs with all features enabled, but don't accuse users who love flashing new unstable versions of being unwise just because they aren't like you.
Cheers

i suppose they want to help in the developing process or something?
well i, myself, for instance, crave to take my phone to the next level, leaving the not-so-smooth ROMand trying the various ROMs created by our developer, and i like those buttery smoothness.
the point, for me, is to take the chance in buttery smooth and a lot of free RAM, coz my phone's free ram using the original ROM is quite saddening..

@hackerpower - hey bro howz u .. ?
i was very active in this forum as drsanket_xperia_u .. i remember when u were new here..
okay getting straight to point..
roms cannot be fully working unless experimental builds are released and logcats are provided by us.. on the basis of this logcat errors are rectified.. and slowly n slowly all non working hardware becomes working (not forgetting sources n developer's hardwork)
secondly sometimes bcoz of our fondness for roms we are ready to use a rom irrespective of non working hardware
i remember when jb was ported to xu and camera was non functional ..i used that ported rom for over a week without a camera bcoz i loved jb on my xu ..
i hope u got the point..
From what I have seen and tried for Xperia p, there are no stable roms, Sony isn't even able to make a stable build, this phone sucks and I can't wait to get a new one.
