I was going to make a backup of my S4 and this happened.

As you can hopefully see the data partition is quite large. I've tried wiping, formatting, flashing back to stock and rerooting to no avail. Please give me some type of a suggestion.
And I used this forum [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301259] to go back to stock. But it specifically states that it doesn't touch data.
Edit - I rebooted and now it's back to how it is above. Now it's at 1440281MB though. Also when I first booted after what I said below it said I was using 592MB in application storage. After I rebooted it says I'm using 6.1GB.
Alright, I installed a different recovery [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292112] and wiped with that and all seems good now.

Dear fellow Xda,
I recently changed my sim card (1 hour ago) then my phone auto reboot, then it booted up to the welcome screen and asked me to configure everything like a new phone and voila! everything got wiped out by itself including contacts etc.
Can anyone help me to restore my phone?

I was going to wipe the cache to help with my phone having slowed down quite a bit. When I got to the recovery, I was thoroughly surprised to see this:

The last time I went to wipe the cache, I ended up holding the buttons for too long and did... something. All I know is my phone vibrated a few times and then rebooted, but nothing was messed up so I assumed I did a cache-clearing key combination. I've never had something like this happen to me before (I'm new to non-nexus Samsungs).
At the bottom, all I can read is "[...]cation failed" and I can still use it like normal.
I got my phone rooted with KingRoot and then I got Super-Sume to get rid of KingRoot. I wanted to make sure that I had a backup of my phone so I tried flashing a recovery, which has lead me to having my phone forced to boot into Odin mode ("no normal boot"). I've tried using Odin and a stock image from here but with no luck.

This is what Odin currently looks like on my PC.
I'd seriously appreciate any and all help trying to fix my phone, all I wanted to do was remove all the bloatware apps and make sure that I had a backup in case I had to revert back and I got myself into this mess.
What does the blue spinning orb in Android recovery mean? This screen showed up immediately after I entered the recovery (not even the interface showed up).
I once encountered something similar when I opened the recovery, and I think it wiped my data without permission. I saw this on my phone again, and I was afraid it was wiping my data without permission, so I pulled the battery.
What does it mean? What "work" is it doing in the background with the progress bar?
P.S. I saw this after I had just flashed a new recovery I think. It is the stock recovery

I reset my phone and that message keeps popping up. I've selected the "reset phone" option, reflashed the rom, and even wiped he data again yet it does the same thing. I'm running the latest build of Resurrection Remix.
Edit: I finally got it to work by formatting the data. However, what I want to know is what exactly caused this issue? And is it possible to recover the data I deleted anyway?
What I understood from my experience is that if you set a PIN or password during the first setup then your phone will be encrypted.
Simply skip this step during setup and check if device is shown as decrypted in the security settings.
You can add a PIN later.
