I have an HTC EVO 4g LTE from sprint and I was thinking about rooting and installing a new rom and wondered if anybody could point me in the right direction to some threads on some recommended ROM's and how to root and install?
Thank you,
Andy

I have an Evo w/the latest OTAs.. but I heard that the HTC method of unlocking isn't as good as the revolution way.
What should I be looking for/waiting for? I'm so pissed off.. might just sell it and get the damn GS2 instead!

You can use HTC's method and still flash ROMs, kernels, or just root your phone. The steps are a little different with HTC's method than if your phone was just S-off, but I think you can accomplish everything besides flashing a different HBOOT. I do think a 4.5" screen might be nice to see though .
Thank you, kind sir.
Could you help me with these steps, please?
I am still a newbie, you see.
Thanks in advance.
Do some searching in cdma dev section I've seen how to root guides for hboot ..1.50

Its possible. But its illegal and nothing illegal should be talked in xda. Period.

Yes, I believe you have 2 options:
1. Take it to a virgin Mobile store and ask them.
2. Trade it for the evo v 4g, which is already on virgin Mobile.

Search and you will find a thread about how you have to change something that is illegal to change since Virgin only lets their phones on their network. Other prepaid carriers like Boost let you use your own phone if you set it up correctly, but Virgin does not.

First of all, searching for the info you want will probably help you out. Second, research as much as possible so you don't mess up. And third, go to htcdev.com and follow directions. There is so much info in this forum to help you, and then if/when you're stuck, ask for help.
Down metal, don't make me grab the hose!
Use dans rooter in the original dev section, should work fine (rewag_lienad) then you'll need to install flashimageGUI.
Then read om4s guide in his SIG

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I didn't mean to come off like a total jerk, but that's how I sounded.

Go to Meanrom thread there is a link on how to root using HTC dev unlock its actually really simple it should take you to EVO Hacks website just be sure to download the latest twrp recovery when flashing thru fastboot or go to the dirty raccoon sense you are already stock and you can achieve soff saves a lot of headaches just follow there instructions word for word I actually used vista 32 bit even though they don't support it but it worked flawlessly.

After hours of mess ups I've finally created a COMPLETE (extremely detailed) video (guide) on how to To S-OFF, Unlock, Install Custom Recovery for the HTC EVO 3D (CDMA). There are 4 different parts. The first 2 parts are for the users that have already unlocked boot loader, installed recovery and a ROM. If this is your first time doing any of this to your stock HTC evo 3d (CDMA) then you can skip to part 3. In each video there will be a link in the description for the next part. I hope this works for everyone that watches it and please like, sub. And pass it on to others who need help with this! Thanks again to everyone who has helped me s-off my phone and do all i have done to it today! I LOVE XDA!! Please let me know of anything you don't understand or any problem you run in to (if you do).
Also, the videos might seem long I just want to assure that your HTC EVO 3D is s-off, unlocked, and recovery installed. Please watch all 4 parts and your phone will be all of this!
I am using windows and only know how to do this for (WINDOWS).
Link to part 1 [GUIDE]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfgar9Flb_c
Please keep this thread Alive as long as possible! Thanks!
I will try this week to look over all of the videos again and create a text [GUIDE] as well.

I'm not a complete noob since i've already been able to s-off and root my HTC One SV but I it took me a long time and two soft-bricks to finally complete it. Can anyone help me out?

The root method is the same regardless of Hboot or software version (use HTC Dev). S-off is a different story. Hit the top link in my sig for more info.
There is a section included on how to get to the bootloader menu, and from that you can determine which S-off method to use.
