it's like connecting both device with usb cable but only using wifi connection either with or without wifi router... :fingers-crossed: ...
what you need is actually a couple of servers running off the sony maybe ftp or xmpp for direct tranfer. for remote admin, vnc servers are probably the way to go.

do some hw and it should get you there. wouldn't hold my breath on an app, most people don'T use two android devices in parallel enough to even know why this would be cool lol

I am trying to find the best way that I can easily access/stream files from my phone to my tablet.
So far I have tried:
- Bluetooth. Too slow
- Kies. Could not connect the devices together after repeated attempts
The phone has wifi direct, but the tablet does not seem to. What android apps offer the best seamless file sharing? I tried bump, did not like it. I suppose if I had the usb adapter I could connect the phone as a mass storage device, but I don't have the adapter yet and I'd like to keep it wireless anyhow.

Have you tried DropBox? It works great between the home computer, phone and tablet.
'swiFTP FTP Server' to create a local server. use 'andFTP' to connect to that server. both free in the android market
Is it possible to stream with andftp?
I can't see how in the free version but maybe pro does??

I'm a big fan of sugar sync, as you can see from my signature. Just like dropbox, but has more free space and no cap if you get more people referred
i tried it with Samba Filesharing. I was able to find my phone but wasnt able to connect to it. Did it while in Hotspot mode on my phone.

i think you can stream with ES File Explorer
Very useful app for people with no mobile data plans and no wifi available but got unlimited bandwidth on pc,like me
Now no more hassle with reverse tethering, just a few simple clicks and we are done.Thought to share this since it works good on my Neo V
ReverseTether allows you to access your computer's internet connection on your device via USB, thus, reverse tethering. It's the first and only app of its kind on the Market, no other app does such a thing.
This app may be useful for you if:
- if you don't have a mobile data plan.
- if you have a limited plan and would like to spare your bytes and money whenever you're at home/work/school.
- if you're roaming and would like to avoid roaming data charges.
- if you prefer speed and want an internet that is faster* than any wifi/3g/4g/lte. (*as fast as your modem)
- if you don't have access to wifi / don't need wifi just for your device.
- if you don't trust the security/privacy of your wifi network.
- if your wifi connection is weak, slow or keeps disconnecting.
- if you're sick of eating terrible food at burger places just for wifi access.
- if you would like to access your local network from your device for backups or storage.
Basically, since you're already connected to usb to recharge or sync, why not also have a super fast, unlimited, secure internet connection for no additional charges, for whatever reason, like sync your mail, contacts or calendars, download and update apps, pre-cache maps, use online-only apps/games, etc...
Key features:
- You'll be able to connect to the internet via USB with a single click. No advanced skills required whatsoever.
- The connection will appear on your device as 3G so that all apps including Market function seamlessly as if you're actually connected to 3G.
- It will first guide you in 2 easy steps to setup your computer for it to work.
- No pc-side software installation is needed at all.
- It provides an option to automatically connect as soon as you plug in USB.
- To disconnect, simply unplug USB. To connect again, plug back USB. Voila. Easy.
- A manual configuration option is also available for advanced users.
This app requires:
- A ROOTED android device
- A Tether option in your device.
- A desktop/laptop computer with your device drivers installed (and ability to edit Network Connections, no extra software needed)
- An internet connection
- Patience - a connection may take a few seconds to a few minutes to get established, since there's no direct way to do it but through this trick.
All app permissions are only needed to establish the connection.
Limitations:
This is a functional trial app that never expires. The one limitation is that you can only connect to the internet in the afternoon and in the late evening, but you can stay online for as long as you want. If you enjoy it please consider purchasing the non-limited version of ReverseTether also available here on Market.

For starters I don't own a laptop because I don't need one(for designing, gaming laptops are not powerful enough and powerful enough ones cost too much),but I got a good desktop pc.And here most doesn't have wifi cos non of isp's are providing good wifi service, hsdpa & adsl is more popular in my country. So I don't have a router with wifi support.
This app is more suited for people with those conditions mate
Tho I find 5$ for this app is little over prized

@livesourav,XDA doesn't allow warez mate,so I suggest you to remove that link
Ok guys then wat i suggest is download the Connectify App ( THE PAID VERSION FOR CHRIST SAKE) and enjoy life the XDA way ... cheers ( I HOPE XDA IS HAPPY NOW )

XDA will ban you if post links to or help people fing illigetimate/illegal copies of apps etc.

well, if you have wifi on the computer then the link i provided to virual router is the perfect solution to this problem. (and free and no resrictions)
For those that explained to me that this app is useful for those without wifi on their computer, can you think of another way other than usb cable to connect the phone to the computer.
(Bluetooth is the only thing that springs to mind, but that is so awful i would rafther be tied to the computer with a usb cable than deal with crappy bluetooth)

For one, it is an excellent way to download large game's data or other large files as it is far more reliable and faster way than using wifi.
So please stop being such shortsighted by telling people here what's good or bad for them just because you can't seems to see what can be done by using this app.
Thank you sir.

Hi,
I am trying to transfer files to and from my lappy using Wifi Direct, and don't know how.
I'm using a Dell XPS with Intel MyWifi direct. If I scan for Wifi direct devices from the phone, it turns up nothing.
I can share internet from my laptop to the phone no problem (using normal Wifi on the phone).
Can someone help me to set up file transfer using wifi direct? Thanks will be given.. :good:

Hasn't anyone used the Wifi Direct on this phone??
If tou had searched a bit b4 posting, youd would have found out, that wifi direct is not working on all wifi adapters on your pc.
that being said, samba fileshare is a good alternative, or use droobox.

You could also try Airdroid, it's a cracking little app.

Use Connectify and create a AP-Hotspot (which creates "real" Wifi network, not Ad-hoc)
It is however not compatible with some (usually cheap low-cost) Wifi adapters/cards/USB-Sticks and requires Windows 7.

hello. I am trying hard to share files using WIfi direct(galaxy note 10.1 under german JB), to an Asus Laptop (intel MyWifi dashboard installed).
I can use the Wifi as Hotspot, but not in Sharing Files.
Struggling, installing drivers, many options..still not possible. I have the same problem. recognising, but refusing to connect each other.
REmoving firewall or adding exceptions, it seems it's a problem of security controls.
IF SOMEONE could help us.
NB : sharing files from any samsung to each others works prefectly well (tab to note, or note galaxy S...)
thanks for reply.

Use connectify
use samsung link that comes with samsung kies and your phone to transfer files .. via wifi.. you can download it from samsung official website if its not there ..
wifi direct
i know wifi direct can use between android. these dont use ure home network or router (now is using this method).
means transfer files from andriod phone to other android phone.
and its preety blazing fast compared to bluetooth (eg; u can transfer hd video in very short time).
the main point is fast transfer speed.... and on the go.
i'm also curious about same technic for a laptop.
means transfer files from andriod phone to laptop, like wise. or laptop to laptop.
it said the technology also have in laptop, but i also cant find the solution.
maybe we still have to wait for anothe year or +.
Do you use non stock roms like asop?
If so wifi direct will not work.

you can start up a hotspot on the phone and use SWIFTP to host an ftp server off the phone
Use the phone's Wifi Tethering option or the freeware "Connecitfy" on the computer to create a Wifi network and then use an app like SAMBA Fileshare to transfer the files.
Afaik Wifi Direct is a software-only protocol which uses sort of apoint-to-point Adhoc network so there is no reason why computers should not be able to use it, at least no technical. You'd need the corresponding tools / drivers though and to my knowledge none such exist.
I have always found es file explorer to work extremely well. You do need to spend a little time to become familiar with interface but really is great for moving files etc. I use it to over files on/from/to my htpc if the wife is watching her junk. Just make sure you have a static ip on your pc to allow for auto login when you open app rather than scanning and login in every time
ist about that you are awesome because tou are imaginary or exist in another world
Hi
Both Intel (My WiFi Dashboard) and Qualcomm-Atheros (Direct Connection) have a client that is supposed to be "WiFi direct" certified and should allow for Direct Peer-Peer connection between the Phone and PC without the need for an access point or other routing device.
I have been unable to get either to work with my SGH-i927 Captivate Glide !
http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/wireless-products/my-wifi-technology.html
The only place I could find the Atheros client was on OEM sites like this for Dell(Sony and HP also have it)
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=Y6F0H
Hi, I've looked at the other threads but I can't find any definite answers among them (either lacking or requiring additional equipment).
Anyway, my first question is how do I share my laptop's wifi connection (connected to my school's wifi, but they limit access to 1 MAC ID per student) to my S2, through USB? Like, is there an app/program/setting I can just use upon hooking up my S2 to my laptop and it can share its Internet connection to my phone?
Second question is how to work it the other way around, like if I have the wifi connection restricted to my S2 only, and share its internet connection to my laptop (and if it's possible wirelessly, to my iPod touch as well).
Thank you for any help. Cheers :good:
I am using 4.0.3 ICS on my I9100 S2, standard Win7 laptop.
Don't think you can via USB, phone doesn't have those capabilities. I guess you'd have to do it via WiFi. I imagine you'd setup some kind of 'server'/whatever software on the laptop similar to how you setup an SSH tunnel/relay (which involves your phone connecting to a host machine remotely which uses a secure connection to use the internet rather than accessing it normally via your carrier).
There's probably threads on here which would have the info you're after, but don't use XDA search; do a Google search & append XDA to your search terms. Gets better results in my experience. Also a straight out Google search should yield the info you want (it's not going to be easy tho; expect to do a lot of reading/fiddling).
Re: using the phone as a WiFi hotspot for the laptop, again, many many threads on here/Google search about setting up same. Re: doing anything with the iPod touch, you should know you're in the wrong place for that.

I guess I'd do the latter one (Google -> +xda). Thanks. And I guess you misinterpreted what I said about the iPod, I meant if it's possible to connect to the phone's hotspot if it's connected to wifi (using an iPod, laptop, etc.), but thanks really.
