Hi, is it possible to make request for qmg file or boot animation.zip to be used in samsung s4 w/o the htc one word and the final screen instead of one change to my name? thank you!!:victory:fingers-crossed:

When I try this, the T-Mobile animation keeps coming back...I have only been successful with a custome kernel, which causes other issues...is there any way to flash this on a rooted stock HTC One? Even if I try to manually install it, it doesn't work.
Thanks,
mm0

My one is pretty much stock as well. I install it manually by copying the files to the correct directories and changing their permissions. After that I edit the ".xml" file and point it to use whatever boot animation I want. All you have to do is make sure the naming is correct during your edit. Save the file and reboot.
If that doesn't help, can you be a little more specific on the steps you took to install it manually?

I obviously missed the xml file that needs edited... where is it located?

The full set of directions are near the end of the first post in the link to the boot animation. It's a little more detailed, but all you need to do is navigate to the directory "/system/customize/CID" and find the appropriate .xml file for your boots. then add the lines or information I have written out in the main thread. Hope that helps. :good:

Even when I edit the xml file, that comes back on boot with the original info. It looks like I will have to use a custom kernel, or something...but the only custom kernel I have found has issues with the touch screen. Oh well. I guess I will wait until T-Mobile releases 4.2, so I can have more options.

Upload a copy of the xml file you have. I'll take a look at it and see if I can get something working for you.

It's not a matter of having the XML wrong...I save the changes I make, and even close out, and reload it to verify they are there, but as soon as I reboot the phone, it has reverted back to what it was before I made the change.

I understood. I was wanting you to upload two copies of the xml file (one already edited and one stock or like you have now) and I will package it into a flashable zip. That way you can flash it from recovery and it should stick. Plus I will make a stock flashable zip so you can go back to what it was if you want.

Here you go, try flashing the edited zip xml zip file from recovery and see if that works. If it does not, let me know. I included the stock xml zip just in case, but make sure you got some type of backup to fall back on in case something has gotten buggered.

WIP - Porting MattedBlue to Bi-Winning - help please

What is this?
I am trying to learn how to port themes. I need your help.
Here is the theme I am trying to port: MattedBlue
I have solicited help from a couple of people and I think I now have the basics. I'm going to use this thread to ask more questions and eventually use it for the theme. If I am asking dumb questions, perhaps it will benefit and/or motivate others.
What I've done so far:
I have downloaded the stock theme zip for bi-winning
I have downloaded the MattedBlue theme (sadly, on my only attempt I used a version for the Evo, not the Fascinate... trying again tonight with this version).
I have used 7Zip to open both zips and the framework-res.apk
I have navigated to the drawable folders in each
I moved ALL files from the theme drawable folder, to the respective drawable folder of the stock theme zip... essentially a mass move/replace. I have since learned THIS may have been my issue.
I then closed everything up, uploaded the zip, flashed it... odd thing is it worked SORTA, the only image that changed (that I can recall) was the notification bar looked like the CM7 one... so, some progress, but the other 700+ images were still stock bi-winning.
I have been informed to move over the images in smaller batches and to try again, paying attention to the images more closely.
Questions:
I didn't see how I need to repackage/sign the zip... is that even needed?
Once I opened the framework-res.apk it created a folder/archive in 7zip... do I need to do something with that after I moved all the images over?
I ONLY touched framework-res.apk, not twframework-res.apk (because on my first attempt I was using mattedblue for the HTC Evo) and that was not in the theme obviously... NOW I am going to attempt the Fascinate port which I believe does have both framework.apk's.... perhaps that was also my problem?
How do I go about theming the system apps (the theme has this already), is it the same process for apps?
Thoughts:
This has been a great learning experience
It does seem easier than I first thought.... but also incredibly eye-opening at the talent/time some of you guys have. I can NOT imagine doing this from scratch.. porting is good starting point.
The android community is amazing. Everyone I have asked for help, has done so with open arms. I love that about our community, and it is one.
Would like to especially thank JunkDruggler, Birgertime and shreddentyres.
Alright first things first. Do you hate Samsung yet for making a separate twframework-res where they basically duplicated images? It's awesome, isn't it?
Next, that's the thing: a lot of the elements in the system drop down ARE in the twframework-res, and others are peacefully still in framework-res. It's a scavenger hunt of finding images 99% of the time. It's great.
Porting a theme from a Galaxy S ROM would be much easier than a NS or any other AOSP rom because you'd have to match up images yourself and go through a lot of trouble and a LOT of time.

ive never had to resign a flashable zip, normally i just pull the metainf folder out of the rom or another theme and modify the update script to suit my needs.
the reason 7zip is creating an archive is that apk's actually use the same file headers as .zip files which is why we are able to unpack apks just like we would unpack a zip. as such once you have completed your image editing you will want to rezip the folders using 7zip then rename to .apk
as for the issue with the evo version there is actually quite a bit of images that are handled by the twframework. the tab colors, color selection, pull down menu etc. personally i find it annoying that samsung broke it up this way but o well. if you want to build off the original cm7 theme it is doable. you will just have to meticulously go through the twframework and framework to make sure you copy the correct images, and may even have to modify some extra images that arent provided to fit the theme.
Cheers
May i add an important tip??
DON'T RE-SIGN ANYTHING.......ESPECIALLY if its going in the /system/ directory....when re-zipping an apk....use the option that retains the current signature...
Just a tip
Okay, I feel like using the fascinate port tonight will yield a lot more success.... it just seems like moving the images over and rezipping is ONE part of it... once I get that right I will need to figure out how to do the phone dialier, etc... is that the same process then, or can I Just take the themed .apk from the fascinate and replace the system app?
Hmm... actually, the stock bi-winning theme zip would not have those system app files, or does it? I HATE not being able to do this from my work pc.

System apps are similar. Dialer is in DialerTabActivity, Phone is in Phone. All done similarly
you could try just using the applications from the fascinate theme worst case scenario you get a bootloop, but most likely you will just get some fc's
personally i would go through and modify the phone.apk and other applications on your own for a couple reasons.
1. it will give you more practice
2. it is much more satisfying
3. the modded files are much more likely to work.
normally the way i test is just by using root explorer to move my modded files into the correct directories as i work on them. i dont flash through cwm recovery until everything is ready to go and im ready to post. also heed Senior Apocalipsis's advice i learned that one the hard way.
matted BLUES
BLUES is right, this port will make your head spin. i have renamed over 1000 images from the original matted CM7 theme. Let me know where your at and i can send you the images i have and we can collab on it?

Bump....
I reverted from CM7 back to Trigger.. guess I am going to try this project again. I failed too many times trying on bi-winning, just not knowing what I was doing... here is hoping I have better luck this time.
I'm downloading at a whopping 8kb using a sprint air card at the beach... awesome.

Well, i have failed so miserably i can't even flash the zip file... just just stuck at installing update....
I guess I will check your thread, if that doesn't work. I may ask for some serious hand-holding or just let you guys do your thing.
Edit, alright, your thread seems much easier than what I was doing. I will try it out.
honestly i started with the settings apk, has very few images and all i wanted to do was to add some color to the old Bionix roms which didnt have the colored settings, once your comfortable u can take on the big boy (framework)...

I have failed again. I want to try the method rel500 mentioned but I don't have adb installed on this work laptop of my wifes... I may try again on another theme when I am home on my PC.

I don't think annex would mind if I linked to his thread... I'm sure he will post it on xda soon and this thread can die!]
The image name and type may not be the same. You can look into the following apks and framework:
1. Contacts.apk
2. Phone.apk
3. TouchWiz30Launcher.apk
4. framework-res.apk
5. twframework-res.apk
Good luck

Tested and working on Leedroid's HC rom which can be found here. They should also work on other similar ROMs or tablets with with 1024x600 screen resolution.
To download click on the preview of your desired animation or splash.
To install extract the bootanimation.zip or downanimation.zip from the downloaded archives and manually copy them over your original animation.
/data/local for bootanimation.zip
/system/customize/resource for downanimation.zip
Some ROMs may have both animations in /system/customize/resource e.g. DeSensed - View and ICSSense OneXXL 1.0
Note: For View users the .zip archives need to be renamed as follows;
bootanimation.zip -> Sprint_bootanimation.zip
downanimation.zip -> Sprint_downanimation.zip
Note: For ICSSense OneXXL users the .zip archives need to be renamed as follows;
bootanimation.zip -> htc_bootanimation.zip
downanimation.zip -> htc_downanimation.zip
Make sure to set the permissions as shown below.
To push the splash1.img connect the tablet in USB debug mode and type the follwing into commands;
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash splash1 splash1.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
It's been reported by some users that a down animation other than stock can not be used without being unable to power off the Flyer/View resulting in a restart. For this purpose I've attached a stock downanimation.zip. Restoring this to the appropriate directory solves the issue.

Much appreciated ... thank you
ps. any tips on how to change/replace/mute the boot sound
EDIT: boot sound solved !
Also running Lee's HC. Splash screen has weird colours (pink htc logo etc) and I can't get the boot/down animation's to show. Have been fastboot flashing splash copying boot/down with root explorer (and changing permissions)...

Thanks for the DHD compliments! What type of Flyer/View do you have? I'm not sure if it's different for all these variations as I assumed something like a boot or down animation would be relatively simple. Have you tried re-pushing the splash screen?
I'll definitely look into it, in the meantime I'll be whipping up flashable .zips for installing via recovery which might rule out some subconscious errors from installing manually. I'll attach a stock splash1.img to this post later as well. Hopefully someone more experienced in the Flyer/View forums will be able to shed some light on the situation

I had this problem when making my own animation - here is a quick rundown of what I was dealing with:
1. after many, many tries getting animations to work properly I *finally* got the right encoding on desc.txt (Mac user) and the right zip compression. Boot ani finally worked, but I wanted to tweak it to a different color.
2. tweaked animation, re-zipped, duplicated zip to use for both boot and down. Down worked perfectly, but boot kept showing my old animation.
3. decided to change folder from /part0 to /custom in an effort to force it to use the new animation. Boot shows correct animation, but down does the reboot loop and kicks me back to my home screen.
4. changed folder back to /part0 for down animation; now it works properly.
Maybe this will help?
Edit: never mind, just saw it's already called /part0. Weird.
Thank you for answering, may I ask what is "store compression", I just placed the data folder back in the zip allowing it to replace the original.
Edit: did a quick google, everything is fine and working, thanks a lot

I can confirm that after signing the downanimation.zip the Flyer can power off as normal. However, the animation itself loops a few times with uneven frame rate despite playing around with the desc.txt file.
Has anyone else had any more luck with the downanimation.zip issue?

Then just use root explorer mount as rw then make a backup of your mms.apk located in system/app (i would save it to the external sd card) then copy and paste the new mms.apk to system/app and set permissions..
I cant post to the development section yet so if anyone can put a link to this thread in nrg's thread that would be great.....

Was the timestamp thing happening on every text message, or just some of them? Are you sure this fixes it? (I'm going to install it, but I have kept WiFi calling off for a long time now just because of this...just want to be sure this 100% fixes it before I turn it back on)

Is there any way you could go a little more in depth with the instructions? I'm used to something that is a lot less annoying to work with (I came from a G2) so I'm lost as how to replace the MMS.APK. I can't do anything through the file manager with the one that is there, and it won't let me write to that folder. Help?

I used an app called Root Explorer, it allows you to mount the system as r/o which means read only, and mount r/w which means read write. This allows you to copy, paste, delete to Android system files very easily, but be careful this is where you can really cause a problem if you don't what you are doing.

I have ES File Explorer (what comes with the Rom) and I've been messing around with it. I get the new .apk copied but when I navigate to the system folder it says I don't have permission to do anything, I'm assuming because I haven't mounted the /system folder?
Edit- scratch that, I think I got it working. Won't be able to test to see if it worked but the icon is unthemed... So we shall see.
Also, through the "share" context menu, messaging doesn't pop up anymore, after a restart. Any way to change that?

Okay, I followed these instructions (files copied without any errors). When I click on the new mms.apk, it tries to install it as a system application (I have non-market installations allowed). However, when I click "Install" it does it's little thing and then says "Application not installed". Is there a step missing somewhere? Thanks.
Disregard. I thought I needed to reinstall. I just sent a text and it used the new apk.

I pulled the stock mms.apk from the ICS leak rom. This could be identical to the one in the OP, but may want to try this one if on ICS Energy. Don't forget to fix permissions afterwards.

Nexus prime animations does not have any HTC logo.
1. Check downloaded zip's for error
2. Did you rename the new animation as old
3. Have you copied the animation to the right place
3. Permissions rw-, r--, r-- (are you system have a r/w permission?)
All the animations I have personally tested and all work well.

Yep, I put them in system/customize/resource, fixed perms, I have DL'd them 3 times from your links. The only thing I did not do was rename them because the stock anims were named "bootanimation.zip" and "downanimation.zip", when I DL'd yours the names were the same, so I deleted the stock anims and replaced with yours. That's what I don't get I have done this before many times and it worked and now all of the sudden they don't, it's weird.
Hi all, I'm using ARHD 2.2.1 rom, and i have tried putting the sound in system/media and also on customize/resources, and is a no go. Can someone tell me where can I put the audio on Mike's rom? Also, if I make my own boot sound, how long can it be?

No go with these ones either, damn! I just don't get what the heck the deal is.
Edit: Ok, so I put the bootanimation.zip in /system/media to see what would happen and it works for a second then goes to a white screen then boots normal.

Try system/media and set permissions, I'm on CapRomBeta, and although the originals are in /customize/resource saw someone suggest putting also in system/media and my bootanimation works from there.
(hope I got the folder sequence right, but u will see them)
Still cannot get the downani to work yet though
Just like you I have done this Many times before without seeing this issue - I'm no Dev, pure novice, but someone might be able to say if it has anything to do with odexed vs deodexed roms - CapRomBeta is odexed, I changed it on ARHD 2.2.1 with no problems.

Ya, I installed ROM toolbox pro, DL'd the nexus bootanimation from that c/p'd to /system/media, set perms to rwxr-xr-x and that is working, but no down anim either.
And I'm running the ICS stock RUU so I know it's odexed, which may have something to do with it, but IDK, I'm no dev either just a hacker lol

If you gonna stay with the stock look and Really want your bootanimations to work, and to change both at will, you should use ARHD 2.2.1 looks stock but much performs better.
I'm ROM hopping at the moment tasting all there is, been awhile since there was a menu to choose from for the Amaze
For anyone having trouble with boot animations, I found this thread in the Droid Incredible 2 sub-forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1237070
Although this thread was originally meant to show you how to add sound to your boot animation, I think it can also help some people with problems with getting their boot animations to work. It'll become obvious once you read the first post.
Hope this helps!
Disclaimer: Edit the default.xml file at your own risk. I only used it to add a boot sound. I can't guarantee anything.

Nice - I looked at the default.xml in CapRomBeta and only had to rename the bootanimation.zip to TMOUS_bootanimation.zip & TMOUS_downanimation.zip because they are in the correct folder, just had those names in the .xml - works now.
Lot less work than to jack with a .xml file, can be a pain in the u know what

ok attached is a
framework-res.apk
SystemUI.apk
LidroidSettings.apk
that will do the following.
fix the GPS icon so it no longer displays the mifi icon when GPS is locked
add NAV bar at bottom or right of screen (so you can touch back and home with your Spen
Allow you to use Samsung Find my Mobile
standard Verizon 4GLTE icons
I think there are other tweaks too but those are all i can remember right now.
The Lidroid settings.apk will install unlike the one in the original ZIP if placed in /system/app
Let me know if there are issues.
SystemUI.apk goes in /system/app
LidroidSettings.apk goes in /system/app
framework-res.apk goes in /system/framework

I would not try putting in the framework.res file but if you rename the original SystemUI.apk and .odex and then add the SystemUI.apk and Settings app to /system/app it might work. you will also need the attached lidroid-res.apk file to place into /system/framework
Worst that would happen is that you boot up with no system UI and you can launch application launcher to start root explorer to put the original files back in place to restore everything.

What about not booting at all? I looked at the properties of the systemui.apk and it says that it is on 4.1.2 will that conflick my system being that I am on 4.1.1? Also how would I go about launching the app launcher? Is that my app drawer? And by root explorer u mean like the file manager I use. Like Solid Explorer for instance? I am running a deodexed build of VRALL and i have tweaked this exact systemUI to work on my system which is also a 4.1.1 system. To be honest I don't know if it will put you into a boot loop or not. At times when I had a broken SystemUI.apk file it booted fine and then started my launcher. I was eithar able to connect via ADB and fix my issue or launch the app drawer via my launcher and use root explorer (similar to your filemanager program) to swap my old SystemUI into place and reboot. I can't take responsibility if anything goes wrong... but no matter what you should be able to recover by unlocking the bootloader and putting TWRP or CWM on there. There is in my opinion no risk if you have a custom recovery on there and a minimal one for your configuration. but in the end you have to make the decision how bad do you want it LOL

I do want it its messed up that Verizon does this kind of thing to their roms. The ongoing wifi notification thats just stupid. Why not just leave it alone?. This does take care of that right? Replacing it with just the toggle?
