Did you even try to search? Plug your first sentence into the search all forums bar and see what comes up. There are so many threads on here about that problem. Give the search bar a try before creating a thread. That is on of the rules here.

Yes I did, I searched for a couple hours looking through threads even went to different websites. None of the solutions worked so I created a thread hoping someone could give me an answer as to what is going on with my phone

By your PC not charging your phone it is very hard to tell. Lets start with the basics. You have tried different usb ports on the computer. You have turned on USB debugging on your phone. You have tried different USB cables. You have uninstalled and re-installed kies on you computer. You have done what you could to clean the usb port on your phone. You have tried to connect your phone to the pc in download mode. That about exhausts my limited knowledge. Sounds like you have been pretty busy over the past couple of hours to get all that done. I am not sure what to tell you besides it sounds to me like your phones usb port is toast. Maybe you can do some searching and see if you can find some one that can repair that bad boy for you.

Stock Charger Issue?

Hey, I was just wondering if it's possible that the stock charging cable is able to charge my phone, but has malfunctioned somehow to not let it be recognized by my computer?
Basically I've been trying to get my computer to recognize my phone for a week now.
I'm no expert with this stuff but I'm certainly not a noob. I've been rooted and have been flashing ROMs for months now and have odin'd many times before. Just one day none of my USB drives would work. I formatted my computer, reinstalled my drivers and i know the USB ports are functioning because they recognize other devices.
But when i plug my phone in i get "unknown device" where it used to recognize it once i had the samsung drivers installed. I've tested on a brand new computer, with samsung mobile drivers installed and same result, "unknown device"
Is Heimdall a viable option at this point? I've never tried that program but I have nothing to lose i guess, but someone can save me some precious time if they know it's not going to work, please let me know
P.S. this isn't an issue of not having debugging on or my computer seeing it as a cd-rom, the computer won't recognize the device with samsung drivers installed.
Have you not tried another cable?

unfortunately, i don't have any other microUSB - usb cable to test out. I was just going to buy a new charger since the Verizon store is down the street from me, but I figured I'd ask since I won't be able to go until tomorrow morning
From DroidXcon at AC:
"uninstall the drivers, reboot your computer, reinstall drivers, pull out the battery of your phone connect it, put your phone into download mode and let the composite drivers install...then unplug pop your battery back in , turn on the phone, throw it in debugging mode. and connect and see if it configures"
Thanks Kevin, I've actually been tracking that thread since yesterday and the issue for me is that the composite drivers won't install on its own which is really strange to me as i've not had this problem in the past. I also tried doing everything from scratch on a new computer and got the same results... anyway, i didn't get around to it but will try heimdall tonight and see if anything changes

Thanks for the suggestion. I got it figured out. Turned out to be my charging cable. It charges my phone but won't let my pc recognize it as a device. I tested it out with a coworker's captivate charger and it worked
Some micro USB cables are manufactured only to charge. The rocketfish brand cables from Best Buy, for example. It seems to me the manufactures simply leave out a connecter on one or both ends of the cable, or leave out one of the lines all together. Try another cable.
I just saw your using a stock cable... I'll post anyway in case this helps someone else. Good luck!

computer won't recognize phone

when i plug my phone into my computer, nothing. the phone pops up the notification to allow mass storage, but when i enable it the computer never shows the phone. i've messed back and forth with usb debugging, still nothing. is this sometihgn stupid i'm doing or what? I've even flashed a couple roms andstill nothing. help please?
its most likely the usb cable try a differnt one
that's what i thought, i tried two different cables (all i have are 2) and neither will work. Note, that when i use these two cables with the wall jack to charge they work.
do you have another computer? try it with another computer
or try a different usb port! or try installing mini kies that sometimes fixes the problems
Try rebooting and turning usb debugging off. Then plug up to pc (see if it installs drivers) then unplug, turn usb debugging back on and then plug up again. Should work after that.
OP-
A few days ago I posted regarding my similar issue (2-3 pages back).
I have still not resolved my problem, but that thread may give you an idea about troubleshooting.
Let me know if you figure it out.
For me, its most likely a phone issue & not a cpu problem.
I'm going to try cleaning my port with isopropyl alcohol later this afternoon.
You also might want to look at Callip's advice in the "PLEASE HELP" thread on this page.
wow, thanks for all the responses guys, i'll get to all this tomorrow some time and i will post my results.

[Q] SGS2 can't get along with my computer, desperate!

My SGS2 keeps disconnecting and reconnecting the usb with my computer. This is hapenning for quite a long time now.
I keep hearing the windows connect/disconnect usb sound when my phone is plugged in, making it unable to recognize the device.
Today, it finally didn't had this problem for a while, so I took my chance to get back to stock ROM (because I need to send my phone to Samsung for camera problems). So I flashed stock ROM with ODIN, but I encoutered a problem: it didn't get further than the boot animation.
When I tried to reflash, ODIN didn't recognize my phone anymore, just like before. When I plug in my SGS2 to my computer while on download mode, it just keeps reconecting the USB, so the device can't be installed.
Tried a different computer. It kept being connected, but that comp sucks and it couldn't recognize my phone at all. My own computer also has problems recognizing the SGS2, but also has the problem that it can't stay connected.
Things to know:
- Other usb devices do stay connected, it's just for my sgs2
- I've tried different USB hubs etc., reinstalling Kies, uninstalling drivers.
- It does keep charging the phone, even when the computer makes the disconnect sound. That makes it even weirder!
Basically I'm seriously out of clues how to revive my phone
I don't want to send it to Samsung, scared of losing warranty.
You guys are my last hope!
to start the ball rolling, YOU SHOULDNT BE connecting sgs2 to a HUB, thats probably the fault, second, have you tried a different usb lead or a different computer with the same lead to either verify if its the phone or lead at fault??
No one on here can answer your question because it sounds like a hardware issue, wire or hub or charger port, but it is an elimination process and only you can do that.
If you try everything and still get no joy, restore your pc to an earlier point, uninstall the samsung drivers and re-install them etc etc.
I very much doubt its a software problem tho, looking at what you tried already, lots of people use hubs, if youre flashing roms and your connected to a hub then ya play a dangerous game and risk soft bricking your phone, most of the time odin wont recognise your phone through a hub, same if ya usb lead is too long, itll charge but no data. always connect it directly to the pc usb 2 port.

Ow, I think I used the wrong word. I meant to say port instead of hub.. Translation fail there. So that's not the problem, I've put the cable directly into the USB port.
I think you are right about the hardware problem. I'm just not sure where the problem is. I only have one cable, so I can't test that atm. But like I said, the connection problem does NOT occur on another computer. It keeps the device connected (as an unknown device though).
So it's weird: it looks like a SGS2 hardware problem, but on the same time it has a different problem on a different computer. It's really confusing...
Thanks for the quick reply by the way

Then please explain me how I could ever do that when there is no working ROM on my phone. I'm stuck on the 'restore with Kies' screen, like I told in my post (yes, still). And how it will ever work with ODIN? It won't...
Now not any computer is connecting with my sgs2. It just doesn't show anything (not even unknown device). I'm going to try to buy a new cable. Is it needed to buy a Samsung cable? Because it's harder to find than just a regular usb to micro usb cable (and more expensive ). This is my last hope. When it's not working, I need to send it to Samsung.

You need to replace your usb board within your phone. New part can be found on ebay for around $10. It's a really simple task replacing it. No soldering or anything.
It's been well documented on these boards.

First, i apologize if there is already a thread regarding this, but everything ive came across searching on google/xda has come to no avail.
i just got the i777, plugged it into my computer and nothing happens. on my phone it says "mtd connected" and charges.
ive turned on usb debugging, installed samsung kies, installed the drivers, tried the "dial *#7248#(or whatever it is), ive tried 3 different usb cables, all the usb ports on my laptop (brand new alienware), and also 2 other laptops. nothing works
my computer also makes the sound that its been connected. if i go into device manager it shows as Other devices > 7 CDC's with the yellow exclamation mark
if someone .could PLEASE help me it would be much obliged, all i want to do is start flashing again

Probably a bad usb connector on your phone. What rom are you currently on?
I was fearing this. Its all stock, not even rooted.
IF i have to get a new usb port, do i have to do any soldering?
When I had this problem I downloaded multiple different drivers and eventually found ones that worked . Try Google searching i777 usb drivers. I downloaded ones that worked from softpedia actually.

No soldering required. It's just a ribbon cable that connects to the main chip. Took me about an hour from start to finish, but i was being really careful.

He has said his computer recognizes the device, albeit it sees it as an unknown device. And it makes a sound when plugging it in. This tells me it's not a usb port problem but a driver problem. I have had this same problem. As I stated above. Even after installing kies it still didn't recognize it. I had to install the android sdk package, open the program and update, and then it still wouldn't recognize it. I had to download separate usb drivers for the phone as well. Who knows why, some computers or operating systems just have a harder time with the drivers. That's the problem in my opinion. Here's hoping it's not a usb port problem. Also this would prevent charging if it were a faulty usb port on the phone wouldn't it?

I wonder if the OP tried this on a computer with Windows XP. I've noticed Vista and 7 seem to have a hard time discovering/installing some usb devices. As for it not charging also..I think the pins inside the port are used separately for charging and connecting to pc.
My computer recognized my phone fine back when it was the Captivate, but it has a really hard time with my GS2. It often will say "invalid hardware id" or not show up at all. Usually it's fixed by swapping ports.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Doesnt Connect to PC

Hey There.
So i got a small problem. When i connect my phone to my computer with a misro usb (not 3.0) it doesnt recognize the phone at all. Normally on the phone it will show its in Camera or MTP mode oin the pull down menu but now its not showing anything but it does charge the phone. Did i hit a setting somewhere i didnt realize?
Any help is much appreciated.Been on the site quite a few times just reading the wealth of knowledge. First time ive had an issue where the answer isnt already posted here lol.
Thanks
But you're saying it does work with the original Samsung 3.0 USB cable? Then that would mean the phone doesn't like the other cord for some reason. Samsungs can be picky like that sometimes. Check the Device Manager for driver errors and try other ports, cords, and computers to make sure it's not a new issue with the phone's USB charge port.
