[Q] update to official JB - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend's galaxy SII is rooted and CWM recovery already installed. We are planning to upadte this phone to latest official Jelly Bean.
But when I first try to keep backup of current stock ROM via recovery, some problems occured, I mean the recovery didn't create back up successfully.
What we have to do? what is the most suitable technique to update this phone? Or which tool i have to use ?
Thanks in advance !

It's not on ICS 4.0.4 is it?

[Q] Kies on rooted tab 10.1

Just a fast question ...
Can I use kies with a rooted tab?
Will i receive the Updates via ota after rooting ?
tnx you all
Someone who want to help me?
Sent from my X8 using XDA
If all you have done is rooting (no cwm or custom rom or kernel), then yes you can use kies and ota update. There is a high possibility that you will lose root after the update though.

I'be installed only cwm. So there's not a chance i can use kies until i reverse the root?
Thank you in advance for your help!
You can use kies for syncing, etc but not for updates. You need to be completely stock for that.

Once the update comes out it'll be on www.sammobile.com. All you'd have to do is flash through Odin

Help~ how to unroot S2 I9100G

Since it have official update ics, but i think my phone had root so i cant install it. Anyone pls provide a solution.. Many thanks
Version : 2.3.6
Base Version : I9100GDKJ2
Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-g7b57e17-dirty-Lucifr_1.60uv-200Mhz
Flash your stock 2.3.6 xwlc2 stock rom simply via odin. Or if u want a faster method, just go to privacy and hit factory reset. It will be as good as new. Backup your data before doing it though as you will loose data.
Thank if i helped mate. Hf

1. No
2. Just flash the official update via Odin. Download the firmware on sammobile: www.sammobile.com/firmware/

Root, triangleaway, then return for warranty!

Hey guys well at the moment I am running stock ICS 4.0.3, 19100T, IML74K.DULP9 as build number. But I am having troubles with the phone and I need to return for warranty, so I need to re root my device and use Triangle Away before going back to stock vodafone for my warranty and I'm just wondering what the best way is to do this all, like step by step guide would be useful! Thanks in advance
The easiest way would be to flash Siyah kernel with Odin.
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/2012/07/29/siyahkernel-s2-v3-5/
After that, get rid of the triangle and reset the flash counter with that app.
Then download stock firmware and flash with Odin.
Thats it.

Thanks I managed to root it again with CF-root and then used the app all went well, so now I just need to find a branded vodafone au rom and flash it with odin and all should be good?

Also before unrooting remember to delete all traces of applications requiring root to work. I suggest to search the forum as I think I saw a guide regarding this.

[Q] rooted S3 can't update official JB

I rooted my Galaxy S3 the other day with the intention of installing one of the JB rom's out there. I thought as my S3 was not locked that the official JB update would be a little way off yet. Yesterday I find the official JB being pushed to my phone. It went through the update process and then said it could not update because my phone had been modified. I checked the rom version and it is now 4.1.1 so it seems to have actually updated everything apart from the interface which is still ICS.
Is there a way to get around this? If I do a factory reset will that wipe the root? Or can I do something to hide the root from the update?
All advice much appreciated.

Thanks for that. didn't realise the interfaces were the same. Was expecting a bit of a facelift but then I guess it's what's under the hood that counts.
It did say it couldn't update the software because the phone was modified so I am wondering what, if anything I am missing.
One thing I did notice pretty much straight away was the battery seems to be running down quicker. Could be my imagination of course but I will test it over the next few days to be certain.
flash any stock Rom and change csc

Rooting will not stop you from updating OTA through KIES. It wont update through direct OTA.
Update via Kies or download the DLJ4 and flash with odin. You will have the same result
Cheers

[Q] OTA updates doesn't work

i need help please!! i have instaled on my samsung galaxy s3 gt-i9300 SU PROversion and the triangle away...i can make OTA updates but when is installing it stops every time on 25%...any sugestions??
Hey man. I think u should use triangle away. Then unroot.. then format. Then wipe everything else.. then download some ROM or try kies firmware upgrade. That's how i got some updates. Actually custom ROMs are way better than stock and when ultimately or phone crashes, u can revive it using kies firmware upgrade.
