My mom still has a Samsung stratosphere (verizon) and her upgrade isn't until December and we don't really have the money to go out and buy off contract :/... OK so the past few months it's been laggy and glitchy a lot but recently she dropped it and the screen went entirely black. The phone still turns on but the screen won't do anything. She's taken it to the vzw store and they said they can't do anything. Currently she is using an intensity 1 as a backup (ancient brick). She had a lot of data on her phone so I tried plugging it into a pc to transfer and it won't even read it. Tried plugging her SD card in, computer goes unresponsive and crashes. So I know a friend with an old working stratosphere so do you guys think it would work if I switched my mom's hardware from her phone into a working phone? I would try and replace the screen but they are around $100 and for how old it is its not worth it. is this an option that would work or should I give up and burn the damn thing?
PS: I posted on this thread because I could not find a Stratosphere thread..

Hello everyone,
I though I was better with all of this, but I am not, and I need your help.
I got two Galaxy s4 form Verizon. One for me and my gf.
She was going away to Europe for vacation and I was trying to be clever guy and unlock sim lock for her. So she could use it over seas..
Well after talking with Verizon it turn out that phone is unlock and ready to got, so I put Tmobile card inside and it work but had that notification that it was non Verizon sim and it only took calls. busted...
So I try to root it...
or main plan was to make this phone to be like non Verizon phone, so it would look like is running with out all that Verizon stuff just pure android.
so I think I succeed with rooting but it was still Verizon phone. I got couple more files that I put in on my phone thru Odin.
And now
that galaxy would not start.
you power it on goes to that Samsung sine at beginning with "lock" icon that is open, with sine "custom" and it will not go any further...
I can put it to download mode, but idk what to put in to it true odin.
and when I go to recovery mode it goes to "team win recovery project v2.5.0.2", but idk what to do in there plus I tried to reset it couple of times...
so I am beat and no idea what I am doing and I am asking for help...
I been with that situation over two weeks now... and I had to go back to my s3...
she took my (second one) SG4 with her because we thought that maybe she will get it to work with non americans companies like Verizon said but she cant even text on it because she cant put any ne Access Point Names... but that's other problem... and some other time...
The one I am stuck with is main one...
Can any one help bring this phone back to live?
Either to Verizon version or if possible to Verizon stock free just pure android?
either Way I will be very grateful for help..
Thanks for your time
Hey everyone... I just spent a good bit of time surfing/searching the forums for a problem similar to mine, but found none. ATT tech help hasnt been much help as of yet, but Im going to try to call one more time today.
My phone is a Lumia 920 with the latest updates. I have NOT installed the APN settings app or anything like that. I have a 10GB shared data plan with my wife.
Here is the issue...if I have recently power cycled my phone, I can go to internet sharing, turn it on, connect whatever I want to my phone, and it works perfect. I can then finish, turn off internet sharing (or let it time out), and later turn it back on again...MAYBE.
Sometimes it will let me connect 2 or 3 more times, then I get the standard error message "Connection Not Shared. To enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611.". If I power cycle the phone though, I am able to tether again just fine for a few sessions.
Anyone else having this intermittent issue? I dont want to have to keep power cycling my phone. Thats a PITA and in my opinion unnecessary. Im tethering to a Nexus 7 when I do it...and between this issue and NFC being lame, Im about to switch to a Galaxy phone haha. And I LOVE my WP8, so that hurts for me to say!
Any ideas?

So I recently gave up my unlimited data plan and went to the same 10 gig plan, I never really use more than that anyways and it's absurdly cheaper. That said, I too get the same error. Before I thought it was because I was on an unlimited data plan, After spending an hour in chat with a tech support rep, he's telling me it's that my OS Version 8.0.10521.155 is wrong, and he wanted to know where I got it from. I told him I ota'ed it, which wasn't a complete lie, but it is an ATT phone that I loaded a Rogers ROM onto and then the ATT Developer ROM which then OTA'ed to GDR3 .
I had to run and didn't get to finish the chat, but I mostly wanted to check and see if you too had loaded the Developer ROM onto your 920, or if you managed to fix your issue.
I have a feeling that they won't send me a replacement because I voided whatever implied warranty with switching the firmware. But I'll fight that fight tomorrow.

I only did the official updates on the phone. Actually...I wasnt really keeping up with the updates because it drove me crazy in the past haha. When I had my Focus with WP7 on it, it was like an obsession. So now its more of a nice surprise when I see the update alert haha.
But in any case....Ive talked to ATT twice now, and they want me to factory reset. They're theory is that something got messed up during an update. A blip in the data transfer, minute loss of WiFi interrupting things, etc. The problem with this is, I DO NOT feel like resetting the phone. I have over 10gb of stuff Ide need to move off. I dont watn all that backed up to the cloud... I have my settings, homescreen, apps...its all how I want it and I hate putting things back. But, I will probably do it. Because the alternative is getting a different phone and I cant do that until December.
This is getting really old. Im at the point where when Im packing up to head home from work, I turn my phone off, then turn it on as Im walking down the steps. I wait until I can turn it on before I start my car, so my tablet connects quicker. If I wait too long between turning the phone on, and trying to activate internet sharing, or if I activate it, and it times out...no guarantee it will turn back on again. Thats another thing, Ide like to be able to tell it NOT to turn off. If Im running into the store real fast or something, I want to leave it hot. My tablet goes to sleep on loss of power, so I cant even leave it in the car because its disconnected anyway.
Annoying...

I bought my s3 in March of this year, and everything was working just fine until May. It's an awsome phone and I love it. However, since May, my phone no longer connects to 4g EVER and the 3g comes and goes and never stays connected for more than 10 minutes while in use. I've NEVER even come CLOSE to reaching my plans provided 2.5GB of data, so I know that's not the issue. The phone has never been dropped, or wet, as I am always very delicate with my phones. I have never placed it too close to the TV...
I contacted Boost mobile. They gave me a long list of things to try. I have tried EVERYTHING: making sure the mobile networks is checked, preferred network setting CDMA/LTE, soft reset, clear browser cache, update PRL, profile update, software update, firmware update, ##72786#, and even did a factory reset. Nothing helped. Boost said there was nothing else they could do for me, and that I needed to contact samsung.
Samsung said the only way for them to find the problem is for me to send them my phone, and wait 2 to 4 weeks for them to revise it and send it back. That's not an option as I need my phone monday through friday for my job. (UPDATE: I got so irritated with this problem that I went ahead and bought an LG Volt, since I didn't have the money to buy another galaxy. It's nice but I don't like it as much. I'm still afraid to send the Galaxy into Samsung. They have expressed to me that if they can't find an issue(just my luck), or if they find the issue to be my fault(IE I put the phone too close to a credit card magnet or some dumb crap like that), then they will charge me not only for the parts and labor, but for the return shipping... and we all know that they'll charge me way more than the phone is worth.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and if there's anyway to fix it without having to send my phone in to samsung? I have been told, also, that I could try reflashing the phone to it's original firmware and software, but I am afraid of screwing the phone up since I've never done anything like that before.
Thanks!
So ive had my original for almost 2 years. Well i shattered the screen last week. Didn't want to do it but got a replacement thru insurance and the replacement phone came to me on 4.4.2 my old phone is rooted on 4.1.2. I just got thinking this morning.
Is it possible?
Has it been done?
To take the new phone, unplug the screen, and basically swap the guts out from the old to the new? Basically running old internals with the new screen? Any input would be great.
I pulled my old phone apart already so it's not a matter if i can take the phone apart. I just didn't know if that would create problems with the phone.

Hi JTProuhet,
Yes, that's possible to do if you know how to. I'd check ifixit for more instructions.
However, if you claimed insurance on your phone, don't you need to return the old phone to the insurance company? If you reported it as lost/stolen, then the original phone will be blacklisted and swapping screens wouldn't fix that. The screen itself has no identifying data that would lock it to a certain motherboard, though.
Have a good one, and good luck.
Yes i have to return my old phone. No i didn't list it as stolen. I was just going to swap out internals, and send old phone with new phone internals. I just didn't know if there was anything they could do, or if they would even know. I just can't deal with this 4.4.2 it's crashed more in the past couple days than my old one did running 4.3 leaked ota.
Thank you for your quick reply redjoker
I think it's more trouble than its worth. You'd have to make sure the IMEI number matches that of your old phone, and who knows if they check that indepth or just the sticker.
It probably would have been cheaper to buy a new LCD/Digitizer on ebay and swap out, than to do a mix and match of both phones (for logistical reasons). You can always try, but if it backfires, you might have to pay a fee (cost of the phone, I believe).
You can always click the thanks button instead of writing a new post, too

It's dishonest people like you that are ruining this world. This is theft.
Theft? How? I paid for the replacement phone. Not like i was talking about taking the guts out completely and not sending them back, phone would still work. So not sure how you say theft cause it really wouldn't be stealing anything.
Don't worry chief.. Im not going to do it.
Hi all,
So I went to T-Mobile for a replacement for a 2 month old S5. It has been randomly rebooting and not taking phone calls for a couple of weeks now, and hopefully, was just a defective unit.
I have root on my current phone, and plan to root the replacement, but since I have a new phone with guaranteed stock, untripped knox, is this a good time to play around with roms on the old defective unit? I have a few days before I have to send the old one back. Does T-Mobile check stuff like that on defective units, or do they just send it to a refurb facility or junk it?
My s5 has the same issue as yours. I called T mobile and the support guys recommend me to remove the sd card. However, after 24 hours, my phone randomly restarted one time, when I open the Youtube. I am no idea what cause the phone reboot. I am think about call T-moblie again for a replacement. any idea?
